Does satan still think he will win?

At church last night we got into an interesting discussion about satan. We are studying the verses in Colossians 2:14-15.

Verse 15, ESV: “He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.”

NIV: “And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.”

KJV: “And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.”

The question was, do we think the cross chastened satan enough so that after the cross he understood he is a cooked goose, and now is just taking as many down with him as possible? Or is he uncowed by the cross and continuing in his pursuit of exaltation over God? In other words, what impact did the cross have on him when Jesus descended and made a spectacle of the demons and their evil leader, satan?

Here are my thoughts on it.

Why do I believe satan thinks he will win, and that the cross did not sway his thinking on this score one bit?

1. The nature of sin.

We’re told that the unregenerated heart is totally depraved. We’re told that it only goes from bad to worse, deceiving and being deceived. (2 Tim 3:13). That they grow only more and more ungodly (2 Tim 2:16). That there is a progression to sin that descends us and never ascends (Romans 1). In addition we’re told specifically about satan that he is the father of lies and to destroy. (John 8:44; John 10:10).

We know that sin makes us stupid (Romans 1, Ephesians 4:17-18 …) We are speculating on satan’s reaction to his defeat at the cross as if he were a rational being reacting naturally to a defeat as we would react to it. He isn’t and he won’t. We can’t use a logical mindset to apply to his subsequent actions to that defeat. Sin makes us stupider and stupider. He is not in his right mind. As Ephesians says, our minds become futile. The cross would be a setback and not a defeat- in his stupid, sin-drenched, futile, darkened mind.

So due to what we are told about the nature of sin, there is no reason to think that satan is any different than he was at the outset of his fall as described in Isaiah 14 and Ezekiel 28, arrogant and prideful, and every biblical reason to know he is worse. I think the cross did not chasten him at all. In fact it probably acted as a catalyst for satan to redouble his efforts. We know satan is defeated. I do not believe he does. His behavior has shown us that. Here are some examples:

2. Arrogance from the beginning

Though he was the guardian cherub, THE chief guard of the guards as it were, and served God in His temple, and no one was closer to God than he was, satan’s intent from the beginning was to conquer God. He said,

“I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: 14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.” (Isaiah 14:14b-15)

Satan saw God create the earth with the power of his own voice, he watched God create a human and breathe His life into him, and yet satan still thought he could exalt himself above God. THAT is arrogance of all arrogance.

2b. Arrogance continued through Jesus’s earthly ministry (Luke 4)

I believe satan’s arrogance was deepened by the time Jesus came to earth, because satan tempted Jesus. Wow. He offered Jesus all the kingdoms of the earth and Jesus did not correct satan, but simply refused the offer. Satan’s leash is a leash but satan, I think, has forgotten he is one a leash at all. I think he thinks that because he has access to heaven, 1/3 of the angels on his side, and is god of this world that he can and will continue to gain territory.

3. Satan’s fury at being tossed out of heaven, (Rev 12:7-17).

In Rev 12:13 it says “When the dragon realized that he had been thrown down to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child.” The common interpretation, I understand, is that has had access to heaven since his fall, but at this point in the Tribulation, satan is barred further access to heaven, along with his 1/3 fallen angel army. In fact, this is what sparks the Great Tribulation. He is so furious he fiercely persecutes the Israel/Jews in the 2nd half of the Tribulation, and then the Christians. He’s shocked, shocked, at being thrown out. It even takes him a bit of time to absorb the fact. See–

…where the verse says “when he realized he had been thrown down”. If satan has to take time to even realize he has lost the war in heaven, he must have thought that his access would have gone on forever. The word in the verse for “he realized” means he perceived or discerned, “to see with the mind” (i.e. spiritually see), i.e. perceive (with inward spiritual perception). (Strong’s). In this case I propose that if he is just realizing it in the Tribulation that he lost territory, then prior to that he didn’t have a clue he even could lose. The cross notwithstanding…

3b. The permanence of his intent to conquer God

Satan’s reaction to this loss of access to heaven is cold evil fury (Rev 12:17). The Greek word for his fury means settled anger (opposition), i.e. rising up from an ongoing (fixed) opposition. This tells me that his anger was as fixed as it was the day he declared war on God by saying he will exalt himself above God. It means an unwavering, settled anger. So once again I interpret that satan is still arrogant and still believes he will win even at the future date of the Great Tribulation’s outset. He starts to get a clue in Rev 12 where the angel says ‘people, rejoice because the devil knows his time is short.’ But that does not stop him at all. The cross notwithstanding. As a matter of fact… it only spurs him on. Because next on the schedule of events is…

4. Armageddon

As John MacArthur preaches the verses in Rev 16, we see all the armies of the world that satan has demonically influenced to assemble at Armageddon. Why do they all gather there? There is one world government and one world leader…so they don’t come to fight against the antichrist…and not against each other, because they are all there as one military unit. Do they come to fight against Israel? Perhaps, MacArthur says, but more to the point they have gathered to fight against GOD. Even that that late date, satan still thinks he will win. His armies at Har Megiddo are there to fight against Jesus Himself. The cross notwithstanding!

5. Millennium Rebellion

Even after defeat at the cross, being tossed out of heaven, losing at Armageddon, and after being locked up for 1000 years, the first thing satan does after getting out (at the end of the millennium,) is that satan foments a rebellion. A big one. Rev 20:8-9, “will come out to deceive the nations that are at the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them for battle; their number is like the sand of the sea. 9 And they marched up over the broad plain of the earth and surrounded the camp of the saints and the beloved city, but fire came down from heaven and consumed them,”

This evil angel believes he can win until the very second he is thrown into the lake of fire!

I believe the cross was a severe blow in satan’s mind but not a defeat in his mind, (we know that it was the final nail in his coffin, of course) but that the cross only redoubled his efforts. My opinion is: he thinks he will win. He is relentless in his hatred, which is total. Sin only deludes further and further as we know from Romans 1. And those reasons above are the basis for me having formed that opinion. But it is only an opinion. I can’t be dogmatic about it. What do you think?

The point I want to make is that we should never underestimate the persistence of sin in our lives. Jesus broke those chains for us and therefore satan has no power over  us- if we cling to Jesus tightly. We must always appeal to the Holy Spirit to help us resist our natural inclination to sin (as long as we are in our bodies). We can be influenced by satan and tempted to sin and as we see from the progression of his activity throughout the ages, he is relentless.

As for the lost, if you have unsaved people in your family or your workplace or your school…please remember satan’s monumental arrogance, pride, and aim to totally destroy. Their chains have not been broken and they are under satan’s sway. Pray for them and have patience with them. They do not know what they are doing!

Let me know what you think on this subject or any other.

Peace,

Back to Basics: Who is Satan?

Satan is real.

He was God’s covering cherub, the highest of the high, and the most beautiful. (Ezekiel 28:14-17). This means he is an angel and therefore a created being under God’s sovereignty. The eternal clash between good and evil is not one of equal opposites, but one of rebellion of a created being against an uncreated, holy God. (Isaiah 14:13-14)

We hear satan’s actual voice three times in the bible. Once in Genesis 3:1-5 when he is talking with Eve in the Garden of Eden. There, he insinuated to Eve that God is not good enough to her by not letting her have all the fruit of the Garden. The second time we hear him speak, it’s in heaven to God about Job. (Job 1:7-11). There, he told God that God was being too good to Job. The third time is when satan tempts Jesus. (Luke 4:1-12). In that scene, he used several the schemes in his arsenal (temptation of the body, temptation of power, temptation of testing God) and when he failed, he went away until another opportune time. (Luke 4:13).

These scenes tell us that satan has many schemes in his bag of tricks, he is not hesitant to use them against people, or Jesus or even GOD, and that he never quits.

Satan is mentioned in the Gospels twenty-nine times. And twenty-five of those times, Jesus is the one talking about Satan. Satan is mentioned in seven Old Testament books and every New Testament book.

Satan is a real person. He is not allegory, a metaphor or a figment. If you believe he is an allegory or figment or just an evil force, then you destroy the integrity and truthfulness of every NT book, each Gospel, a quarter of the Old Testament, and the character of Jesus. It is not possible to disbelieve satan is real but also believe the rest of the bible is truthful, historical, prophetic, and the word of God.

Satan is not in hell. He is not the ruler of hell. So where is he? He is roaming up and down upon the earth. (Job 1:7, Job 2:2; 1 Peter 5:8). Satan is the prince of the air. (Ephesians 2:2). Satan is in heaven accusing the brethren. (Revelation 12:10; Job 1:6). God has granted limited and temporary sovereignty to satan, for he is the god of this world. (2 Corinthians 4:4). From this we see that satan has been granted much latitude by God on earth, the air and in heaven.

Satan is busy! He is accusing the brethren, roaming the earth, fighting the holy angels, sowing tares among the wheat, polluting the doctrine. He is wreaking devastation and destruction. (John 10:10). And much more!

What is satan’s destiny? When satan rebelled in the primordial past, God prepared hell for satan and his angels. (Matthew 25:41). There will be no offer to repent and no opportunity to come to salvation. The devil and his angels’ futures are fixed. (John 16:11). Meanwhile, God uses their evil for His good and glory.

During the time since the fall of Adam and Eve in the Garden, satan has been allowed latitude in each of the three spheres of earth, air and heaven. However, midway through the Tribulation, he will be thrown out of heaven and access will no longer be granted to him or his angels. Perhaps satan thought he would be able to go on like this forever. God’s patience is longsuffering, but it does have an end, and satan gets tossed. He and his angels will be furious and will wreak that fury on the population of the earth. Woe to them! (Revelation 12:7-17).

At the conclusion of the Tribulation, satan will be thrown into the abyss and locked up for 1000 years. When 1000 years is over, he will be let out for a little while to foment one last, short, rebellion. (Revelation 20:3; 8). After that time he will be thrown into the lake of fire, the place prepared for him in the primordial past. His angels will be thrown there too, (Revelation 20:10) along with every person who followed him. (Revelation 20:15).

To all the precious brethren, fighting and strong or struggling and weak: he who is in us is greater than he who is in the world. We need not fear satan, but we do need to appreciate his capabilities and thus rely on the Holy Spirit more than ever. And to the lost: make no mistake, satan is real.

Rob Bell casts aspersions on the Holy Word. In his infamous book, “Love Wins“, Bell wrote about hell and by definition, satan,

“‘A staggering number of people have been taught that a few select Christians will spend forever in a peaceful, joyous place called heaven, while the rest of humanity spends forever in torment and punishment in hell with no chance for anything better. It’s been clearly communicated to many that this belief is a central truth of the Christian faith and to reject it is, in essence, to reject Jesus. This is misguided and toxic and ultimately subverts the contagious spread of Jesus’ message of love, peace, forgiveness, and joy that our world desperately needs to hear.’ “

Oh, woe to those who disbelieve Jesus’s words about future judgment for sin and His word to John in Revelation about the Book of Life. If your name is not written in it, you will be thrown into the Lake of Fire to be tormented forever.

Mr Bell believes love wins: and he is right, it does. Look at the cross! God’s love of humanity- expressed through Jesus-  triumphed over evil and sin and death! (Colossians 2:13-15). However, Mr Bell believes love and holiness are mutually exclusive. They are not. Holiness wins too. (John 9:39). All one needs to do is look at the lake of fire- the place prepared for the devil and his angels, and all those who follow satan. (Matthew 12:30-32). Unless you believe in Jesus, you are actually following satan by default. When you die, you will follow satan right into the Lake of Fire.

Now for some encouragement to the brethren:

“Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” (1 John 4:4)

“Now is the judgment of this world; now will the ruler of this world be cast out.” (John 12:31).

“For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.” (2 Corinthians 4:6).

Thanks be to God for Jesus!

Those are a few facts about satan. As always, read the word for yourselves to see if these things are true.

Posted in days of the week names, false gods, planets names, satan

You’d be surprised to see how many things are named after false gods…

Sometimes people have a hard time believing that satan is god of this world. (2 Corinthians 4:4). It doesn’t mean satan is outside the sovereignty of God, or that he is equal to God. It just means that he has been given authority for a time to operate freely in influencing humans.

GotQuestions explains it this way: The verse means that it “is the major influence on the mind-set expressed by the ideals, opinions, goals, hopes and views of the majority of people. His areas of influence also encompass the world’s philosophies, education, and commerce. The thoughts, ideas, speculations and false religions of the world are under his control and have sprung from his lies and deceptions.”

Since satan’s original sin was pride, it is natural that he would want to see himself reflected in anything and everything. He wants to use the earth as a personal mirror, reflecting himself back to himself in as many human endeavors as possible. To this end, he has been fairly successful.

For example, the names for the days of the week originate from Roman, Greek, and Norse mythical false gods. Anything from an ancient myth from any culture is not from God but in fact is satan’s attempt to create a false religion apart from God.

The days of the week are named after false gods in satan’s image:

Source

Sunday:The name comes from the Latin dies solis, meaning “sun’s day”: the name of a pagan Roman holiday honoring the sun god, whom Romans called Mithra and Apollo.

Monday: The name comes from the Anglo-Saxon monandaeg, “the moon’s day”. This second day was sacred to the goddess of the moon.

Tuesday:This day was named after the Norse god Tyr. The Romans named this day after their war-god Mars

Wednesday:The day named to honor Wodan (Odin). The Romans called it dies Mercurii, after their god Mercury.

Thursday:The day named after the Norse god Thor. In the Norse languages this day is called Torsdag. The Romans named this day dies Jovis (“Jove’s Day”), after Jove or Jupiter, their most important god.

Friday:The day in honor of the Norse goddess Frigg. In Old High German this day was called frigedag. To the Romans this day was sacred to the goddess Venus, and was known as dies veneris.

Saturday:This day was called dies Saturni, “Saturn’s Day”, by the ancient Romans in honor of Saturn. In Anglo-Saxon: sater daeg.

Mercury, planet and false god

The planets are named after Greek gods, corporations and technologies are named after characters and gods in myths (Delphi, Oracle, Amazon, Aetna, Ajax, Juno, Nike, Pandora radio), the elements on the periodic table are named after gods, (Mercury, vanadium (Vanadis) and thorium (Thor); titanium was named after the Greek Titans.

And now we have a new mineral that has been discovered. So what do they name it?

“The name of the titanium dioxide mineral, which has been approved by the International Mineralogical Association, honors Pan Gu, said in Chinese mythology to be the first living being who created the world by separating yin from yang (forming the earth and sky).”

It is amazing how satan has saturated all cultures with things that divert from the one True God. (Matthew 16:22-24). It’s like the old subliminal advertising, subtly and not even consciously absorbing what satan wants you to absorb. As Christians operating in the power of the Holy Spirit we can see these ploys for what they are, and use our armor to ward off encroaching worldiness. But as a mental exercise, try to keep how many things in our world are named after false gods and you will be amazed at how long the list gets, very quickly.

God has all the power and the victory. He won and He will prevail at the end of days. Satan’s day will end and he will be tossed into the lake of fire, there forever to be tormented for his sins. (Rev 19:20). In the meantime, let’s continue praying for the people who are deluded into thinking that the false gods are real and the real God is not, and for revival of many hearts in these days of Noah.

Calling all believers to a prayer request

Please see UPDATE here.

What is below is an actual letter I have sent to my local newspaper. I live in an area of the USA that is considered the “Bible Belt”. See map at left. The Bible Belt is “an informal term for a region in the southeastern and south-central United States in which socially conservative evangelical Protestantism is a significant part of the culture and Christian church attendance across the denominations is generally higher than the nation’s average.”

Yet  in our Christian conservative evangelical area, satan has made bold and dastardly attempts to target our precious youth. See the explanation for my call to prayer in the following letter I’ve sent in:

There’s a local Summer Library Class for teenagers called “Enter Portentia”. In it, youths aged 12-18 will be taught “how to interpret your dreams, read palms, tell fortunes and become open to the portents (secret messages) around and within us.”

We’re all intensely curious about the ‘other side’ aren’t we? I think it’s natural for people to wonder about the realms we cannot see. The fact that we do wonder is testament to the fact that we believe those realms exist.

Before I was saved by Jesus’s grace, I used a Ouija board, went to a Tarot Reading, had my palm read, and had my Aura photographed. I was looking for answers to those secrets I knew were beyond my grasp. But to be honest, each time I felt a little silly. I didn’t think that looking at my own palm’s flesh was going to reveal the secrets of the other side. For that, I needed to look beyond myself. Besides, how could I trust any information I got? What was the source of it? I remained uneasy.

When I was born again, the messages from the other side became clear, because Jesus sends Holy Spirit to guide us into truth. The scales fell from my eyes, and questions about the other side were answered- in the bible. Jesus is the only reliable source!

Any information we get from the other side that’s not from God’s Word is occult and is outside His bounds. Therefore it’s bad for us.

The bible condemns activity such as the Portentia class in the strongest possible terms. Verses in both New and Old Testament call divination an abomination. I urgently request that the Library decision-makers stop this class. You are exposing children to realms that God condemned, because He knows to partake of them invites hell into your house.

If you’re not a Christian and you’re reading this, don’t dismiss it. Divination is not a “harmless” activity. As a parent, if your daughter came home with Tarot cards and books on palm reading, do you say, “Goodie! I hope she makes a career out of it!”? Do you say, “What a relief, this is such a wholesome activity!” You don’t say those things, because in your heart you know that the uneasiness you feel is there for a reason. Kids who get sucked up into occult activity rarely come out the other side without experiencing a downward spiral first.

The answer to what is on the other side is Jesus. If there are Christian participants and leaders of that class: Stop the class. Repent and ask Him to forgive you. He will. Non-Christian participants and teachers of the class: If you ask Him to forgive you of all your sins, He will do that too. You won’t need to read lines on your palm anymore, because you’ll have an eternity to discover the secrets of the other side that Jesus is waiting to share.

Here are some resources on Divination and Spiritism:

Does the bible take a position on clairvoyance and parapsychology?

What kinds of things can open you up to demonic oppression?

Is there demonic activity in the world today?

What does the bible say about palm reading

The class is in two parts. The first part has already passed. The second class is scheduled to be held June 21. Would you please pray that the teachers of this class, the youth participants, and the Library Board’s hearts would be changed? That this second class be cancelled? That any youth hooked by the first class would be released? And that those involved would repent, or become saved if they are not?

Though it is disheartening to me to be on a battlefield that has satanic ammunition constantly lobbed from any direction, at any time, I praise the Lord He gave us His Word, His armor, His Son, and His victory so that we can go forth in confidence and joy in doing His work. Thank you for your consideration on this personal request.

Ecumenism never works, Interfaith is not what it seems

Listen to this. This is a good story. From Ezra 4:1-5, a one act play in three parts, with application for today.

Pt 1: Question

“Now when the adversaries of Judah and Benjamin heard that the returned exiles were building a temple to the LORD, the God of Israel, they approached Zerubbabel and the heads of fathers’ houses and said to them, “Let us build with you, for we worship your God as you do, and we have been sacrificing to him ever since the days of Esarhaddon king of Assyria who brought us here.”

Pt 2: Answer

“But Zerubbabel, Jeshua, and the rest of the heads of fathers’ houses in Israel said to them, “You have nothing to do with us in building a house to our God; but we alone will build to the LORD, the God of Israel, as King Cyrus the king of Persia has commanded us.”

Pt 3: Reaction

“Then the people of the land discouraged the people of Judah and made them afraid to build and bribed counselors against them to frustrate their purpose, all the days of Cyrus king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius king of Persia.”

Note that the first verse states that these were enemies of Judah and Benjamin. Every translation uses the word enemies or adversaries. These people who showed up undoubtedly had heard the shouts of praise and weeping as recorded in the previous verse (Ezra 3:13). And no one could miss 50,000 or so people tramping back with all their families, servants and animals. Their arrival was noted. And not appreciated. What to do? What to do? Well, if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em!

“Let us help you!” they said. They were all nicey-nice. They asked politely. They said that they respected the Israelites’ God. For gosh sakes, we worship Him, even sacrifice! We’re like you!

The two tribes said … drumroll please … NO.

By today’s standards, we’d say that the Israelites were being mean, impolite, “exclusive”, “intolerant”, and “haters” by refusing the offer. After all, weren’t the would-be helpers seeking? Wouldn’t it achieve a dual common goal by getting the temple finished earlier and offer the seekers the opportunity for the Jews to dazzle the pagans with their wonderful personalities before setting the bait-and-switch of … ta-DA! … sharing the knowledge of the LORD?

No it would not. First, the Jews knew that the LORD had placed it upon their hearts to do the work, He had not placed it upon the Gentiles’s hearts. Therefore they were respecting the decree of the LORD by working exclusively toward fulfilling His command. Second, they were respecting the decree of the King to be the ones who built it. And third, we knew then and we know now that there is never a common spiritual goal when pairing with Gentiles. They promote satan’s goals, we promote Jesus’s. There is between them a great gulf fixed.

Sure enough, their true colors came out. And right away too. They immediately began a multi-pronged approach to thwarting the goal of rebuilding the temple and thus of God’s work. They were doing satan’s work. It had only been a ruse in that first prong approach of joining them. When that didn’t work, right away began to bribe the officials, appeal to the king, discourage the Jews, frustrate them, and bully them. They kept this up for fifteen years. Fifteen years. As we can see by their persistence, their goal was never to help get the temple built, it was only to prevent the temple from being built.

See? Ecumenism never works. The seeker’s goals are not the same as ours, and their true colors will come out soon enough.

We can see by one of satan’s methods that he sows tares among the wheat, something undoubtedly the pagans had wanted to do. The Jews would have naturally relaxed their guard by being in daily proximity to the pagans, and satan would have started sowing the tares. Intermarriage, friendliness, social mixing or melding their different religions, pollution would have begun. Just ask Solomon how that works out.

Note I’m talking about maintaining separateness when setting out to accomplish a purpose of God, or a consecrated thing, not that we never mix with unbelievers. The fact is, though, the bible is replete with warnings not to mix holy and profane:

“Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness?” (2 Corinthians 6:14)

The Greek lexicon defines this unequal yoking as “used figuratively of Christians wrongly committed to a partner holding very different values (priorities), i.e. that run contrary to faith (the kingdom of God). Scripture uses symbols to teach about the importance of keeping spiritually pure. Along this line, Scripture prohibited partnering with the apistos, or the unfaithful, by evoking the picture of two different animals yoked together. Would the field get plowed if you yoked a bull and a goat together?

“…but while his men were sleeping, his enemy came and sowed weeds among the wheat and went away…(Matthew 13:25)

Félicien Rops, Satan Sowing Seeds, pencil, c. 1872.

I’ve used this pencil drawing before recently. I like it. Why? I’m amazed at the accuracy the drawing evokes of satan’s activity and methods. It reminds me of so many different verses. The wheat and the tares is one. The verse where God asks satan where he has been and satan says he has been roaming through the earth and going back and forth in it. (Job 1:7). Another verse is good to remember here, satan is god of this world, (2 Corinthians 4:4) and he has been given power to deliver kingdoms to all he chooses (Matthew 4:8-9).

We must resist the world because satan is the god of it. “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.” (1 Peter 2:9).

We should not combine with unbelievers, or even with those who say they worship the same God as we do but obviously do not. Let not the political, cultural, or social desires get in the way of the biblical desire to remain dedicated to being pure and bringing glory to Jesus. Ecumenism, or interfaith, is not what it seems. This is evidenced by the immediate reaction of the rejected pagans who had asked to “help” build the temple but only wanted to allow satan to go back and forth on it, sowing tares.

Posted in end of days, jesus, prophecy, satan, tribulation

Tribulation overview

The verse below is meant to be (mostly) fulfilled in the Tribulation. The Tribulation is prophesied to be a period where many things will happen. One of them is that the earth and heavens themselves will be wildly disrupted and disfigured. Landforms disappear. Weather patterns evaporate. Celestial orbits cease. Plagues kill. And more.

The outline of what Jesus will be doing at that time is presented to us in Daniel 9:24. The Lord will do 6 things:

“Seventy weeks are determined For your people and for your holy city,

1. To finish the transgression,
2. To make an end of sins,
3. To make reconciliation for iniquity,
4. To bring in everlasting righteousness,
5. To seal up vision and prophecy,
6. And to anoint the Most Holy.”

Notice several things. First, it is a period where though the times seem chaotic, it is actually orderly. It is all in control of God. The three series of 7-judgments apiece (Seals, Trumpets, Bowls; perhaps four sets if you consider the Seven Thunders of Rev. 10:3-4) will be delivered in orderly fashion. The judgments unleash chaos, but their deliverance is orderly and controlled.

Another orderly aspect of the entire age, not just the Tribulation, is that He said it will take 70 weeks (70 bundles of 7 years, called shavua in Hebrew). This adds up to 490 years total for Him to perform the 6 things. The Tribulation is the time for it all to come crashing to a conclusion and so it is a time of demonstrable wrath and the culmination of the 6 things. In further orderliness, He stopped the clock at 483 years. Nowhere was it promised to be 490 consecutive years! But they should have known that, because the interruption was stated. In Daniel 9:25-26, a mere verse later, the angel told Daniel that after seven sevens and 62 sevens, “Messiah will be cut off (vernacular for died) and the people of the prince who is to come (antichrist) shall destroy the city.”

Jesus’s entry into Jerusalem was 483 years to the day and then the clock stopped. Then Jesus took 2000 years to build His church, and when it reaches His quota, (Romans 11:25) He will snatch us away from this earth, and He will finish that last 7 years of the prophesied 70 weeks and accomplish the promised 6 things. (More here)

The angel also explained to Daniel that it is a time when God directs His attention to “your people” and “your holy city (Jerusalem). That does not mean He isn’t paying attention to non-believers or non-Jews during the Tribulation, or that nothing will happen to them during the Tribulation. Not at all. Jeremiah 30:7 calls it the Time of Jacob’s Trouble, though, and its point is for the LORD to finish His promises to His people. #1 is to finish the transgression which is to allow sin its full course unhindered (unresisted) by the Spirit- because they have rejected the Spirit. In other words, they will get what they asked for.

#2 says He will make an end to sins. This making an end to sins is an event that will affect everyone on the planet. God always sees the world through the lens of His people the Jews and through the central location of the Holy City. But all the world will be affected.

Note the progression of the 6 things. At the beginning, He allows the transgression to have its full expression. By the end, the Most Holy is anointed. The Most Holy is Jesus. Ahhh, what a day that will be! The Tribulation is the cap-stone to the final age of man where He allows the total outcome of rejection of the Holy Spirit to have its course. His Spirit does not strive with man forever, you know. (Gen 6:3a; 2Thessalonians 2:6-7). Like in Noah’s day, where all of man’s thoughts were only evil continually, (Gen 6:5) so it shall be again at the end of days (Matthew 24:37).

The Daniel 9:26 verse also promises that the end will come like a flood. This does not mean that there will be a flood of actual waters as in the first global judgment. As part of the cataclysmic geo-physical upheavals during the Tribulation there will be floods and tides and hurricanes and tsunamis, but He promised Noah that he would never drown the world again as a judgment. (Gen 9:13). Rather, the verse uses figurative language. The Hebrew word in Dan 9:26 is “sheteph; from shataph; a deluge (literally or figuratively) — flood, outrageous, overflowing.” He means that SIN will have its outrageous overflowing. Remember, the antichrist who overpowers the world is called The Man of Sin. (Rev 13:7; 2 Thess 2:3).

This flood language mirrors the language in Revelation 12:15. Midway through the Tribulation, the antichrist tears up the peace treaty he had confirmed with the Jews at the beginning of the Tribulation. He then persecutes them with all unholiness and evil. He goes after the Jews with an evil vengeance that makes the WWII Holocaust look like a picnic. “And the serpent poured water like a river out of his mouth after the woman, so that he might cause her to be swept away with the flood.” Satan pours out his evil and sin flows over the world like a flood.

Floods have waters that rise, and rise and rise, eventually washing away all that is in its path. Even tsunamis which travel at jet speeds have waters that flow and rise accordingly. The end began when Jesus ascended, but it has been 2000 years and we can see that the flood waters of sin are not lapping at our toes…are not sweeping against our waists…but the flood waters of sin seem like they are actually crashing over our heads by this point in time. It seems the flood of sin in the world since the beginning is rising and rising, and now even crashing over our heads. It is like the famous photo of the lighthouse and its keeper:

But we are not destined for wrath! (1 Thessalonians 5:9). Though sin tries to engulf us, it will not prevail against His church! (Matthew 16:18). That is one reason we will not be here during the Tribulation, Jesus said that the gates of hell will never prevail against His church. (Mt 16:18). Notice where the keeper is: INSIDE the Lighthouse. Would you want to be anywhere else when the wages of sin try to engulf you? No. You would not survive that wave. You would not survive the hidden reefs under the wave. (Jude 1:12). Being in the Lighthouse is the only safe place to be, in ages past and in this present age.

Jude says, the apostates are “Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.” (Jude 1:12).

Peter says, “These men are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them.” (2 Peter 2:17).

Isaiah says, “But the wicked are like the tossing sea, which cannot rest, whose waves cast up mire and mud.” (Isaiah 57:20).

What of us, individually? His word says that Hades will not prevail against His church, but what of each of us in the daily struggle against sin? Some days it truly feels like it will engulf me. Here is the remedy: “The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1).

We are Light keepers, and our job is never more important than during the storm! We are in Christ as THE Light, but we keep His word hidden in our hearts. We are ambassadors of His glory and His truths. We keep His commands. We keep His flame alive on earth by staying in Him and close to Him. It is important to be brighter during the storm and so let us be bright, by being full of peace and joy in these stormy times. Let the waves crash! We have the eternal Strength of the Light. Let others see, and come to Him.

Woman of the Apocalypse: El Panecillo statue in Quito

El Panecillo is a tourist attraction in Quito Ecuador. I was in Quito some years back and I snapped a photo of the famous statue. Then I messed with it in Photoshop and it came out like this:

Kind of end of the world doomish, don’t you think? I always titled it in my writings or categorized it in my files as “Angel of Quito”. Lol, here is the original:

But before I even was saved, or knew Jesus, or knew the background of the statue, I was interested in it. I even learned last week that it was called “The Woman of the Apocalypse.” But then I learned even more about the statue and what I learned made me sad. Because it is all wrong, I tell you, all wrong. Here’s the scoop.

The statue is not of an angel. It is of Mary, Jesus’s mother and termed in Catholic circles, The Madonna. Traditional iconography of Madonna statues is that she is standing on the globe and stepping on a snake, which indeed she is in the Quito statue. More unusual, are the wings. Madonnas are not typically adorned with them. The circle above her head is the circle of twelve stars as referred to in Revelation 12:1–18. This is the section of the Tribulation where it is described about “The Woman, the Child, and the Dragon; Satan Thrown Out of Heaven; The Woman Persecuted.”

Except in Catholic circles, it is generally understood, interpreted, and taught that the woman with twelve stars is Israel and her twelve tribes. The child she bore is Jesus. The dragon is satan. The woman persecuted is Israel in the first part of the Tribulation and when Israelites flee to the mountains to safety out of satan’s reach as Jesus told them to do in Matthew 24, satan then turns to persecuting her children, the Christians. It’s not rocket science.

However the iconography that the Catholics ascribe to Mary is heinous in the extreme. For example, transferring the commonly understood interpretation of the woman being Israel, to her being Mary is very bad. Secondly, the twelve stars are the tribes, but to Catholic tradition, she is Mary, Queen of Heaven. “The Catholic teaching on this subject is expressed in the papal encyclical Ad Caeli Reginam, issued by Pope Pius XII. It states Mary is called the Queen of Heaven because her Son, Jesus Christ, is the King of Israel and heavenly King of the Universe. The Eastern Orthodox churches do not share the Catholic dogma, but have themselves a rich liturgical history in honor of Mary. The title Queen of Heaven has long been a Catholic tradition, included in prayers and devotional literature, and seen in Western art in the subject of the Coronation of the Virgin, from the High Middle Ages, long before it was given a formal definition status by the Church.” (source)

Mary, of course, is not royalty and her station as shown above the world is a false elevation of who she really was: a forgiven sinner just like us. The Fuel Project’s “Know Your Enemy” series of videos has a part about Catholic symbolism, and explores in this part how Mary Queen of Heaven is simply the false Babylonian goddess Asherah in disguise. You can see the 13 min part here

Worst of all are the iconic depictions of her stepping on the snake. In Genesis 3:15 we read, “And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.” This is the prophetic pronouncement from God to Adam and Eve in the garden of the coming hope, Jesus Christ. Switching HIS work to crush sin and death (Dan 9:24; Rev 20:14) to Mary’s work is idolatry in the extreme.

As Matthew Henry said in his commentary of the crushed snake and bruised heel, “A gracious promise is here made of Christ, as the deliverer of fallen man from the power of Satan.” Mary does not deliver us from sin, though the cumulative iconography and traditional teachings of the Catholic Church is that she does.

So all that time when I was in Quito and I had been looking at this iconography in statuary and paintings, I never knew how wrong it was. After having snapped the photo and worked with it on my computer, I never knew how dishonoring it was to the Lord. But now that I am saved, I detected immediately the erroneous parts that made up a dastardly whole.

I don’t quite know what I’m trying to say here, other than how easy it is to be deceived. As a non-believer of course, the things of God make no sense and that person is not expected to be able to detect the nuances or differences between true and false doctrine, symbols, or idolatry vs. true worship. But as an unsaved person, I absorbed those false views, and after salvation I had to work at dispensing with the false notions that had littered my mind and heart.

Even Christians though, are often fooled by religious works that mirror something that seems full of truth but isn’t really. I have been surprised lately when mentioning some of the false things contained within Roman Catholicism, that fellow believers are not aware that they are even false in the first place, never mind being able to point to the bible on how or where.

Please always stay within the Word, in prayer, and in fellowship with Christians in these troubled days. We need each other, the false is everywhere and the true is harder to find. Bless His name, though, because on the Last Day, He will not be hard to find. He is coming in great power and glory (Rev 1:7) to demonstrate in power and glory (Mt 24:3) that HE IS FAITHFUL AND TRUE! (Rev 19:11). He is the only true God and there is no other. (Is 45:5).

Satan is real

Petrus Comestor’s “Bible Historiale”

When God said to satan “Have you considered my servant Job?” satan didn’t say “Job who?” Satan knows the Godly. Do you think he knows you?

Alternately, when the demons met the Jewish exorcists of Sceva, look at what happened. “But also some of the Jewish exorcists, who went from place to place, attempted to name over those who had the evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, “I adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preaches.” Seven sons of one Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. And the evil spirit answered and said to them, “I recognize Jesus, and I know about Paul, but who are you?” (Acts 19:13-15.)

Pastor Steven Lawson preached: “Many today try to deny the existence of satan, and say that he is a figment of medieval  imagination. I would remind us all here today that the existence of a real, personal devil is taught in 7 Old Testament books, by every New Testament writer, and by Christ Himself.”

Satan is real. But glory be, so is Jesus, who is sovereign and above all names. If you submit to Jesus, you will be forever Christ’s friend and satan’s enemy. If you choose to reject Jesus you are His enemy and satan’s toy to destroy. “[Satan] The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10).

Walsch, Young, and Beth Moore: ungodly channelers all (Part 3)

Part one: Making no distinction between Victorian channeling writers of yore and today’s Christian authors
Part two: Walsch, Young, and Beth Moore: ungodly channelers all
Conclusion: How do Christian authors end up channeling spirits and producing books from them? Pride

In the last two essays, I compared the Victorian Spiritist’s method of producing creative works through automatic writing with today’s certain Christian authors receiving ‘Divine’ revelation by invisible force. Automatic writing is when a writer clears his mind, gives his will over to another entity from the supernatural realms, and allows his hand to be used as a transcriber, thereby allowing the entity to produce the work, and not himself through his own consciousness.

The Victorians were very interested in Spiritism which involved contacting ‘the other side’ through seances, early Ouija boards, and trances. Many Victorian writers, painters, and composers allowed themselves to be used in this way to produce some of the more famous works we all know. Rudyard Kipling’s “Kim” is one of those. So is WB Yeats’s famous poem “The Second Coming”. Lewis Carroll and L. Frank Baum of Alice in Wonderland and Wizard of Oz also were members of the Theosophical Society and whose works were influenced by this fervent fad of collusion with the demonic world to produce creative works.

Then I compared the current crop of Christian-ish writers who use the same methods today to produce works that adorn Christian bookstore shelves. I specifically looked at Neale Donald Walsch of Conversations with God, William P. Young of The Shack, and Beth Moore of When Godly People do Ungodly Things.

The point of the essays was not so much to examine the content of what these writers wrote about. Though discernment lacks in many a Christian heart these days, the ungodly moments in those books eventually become apparent to the readers who call upon the Spirit for light and illumination.

Rather, I looked at the method of writing. I asked the question, “How is receiving a poem through automatic writing after a seance through a spirit guide any different from holing up in a cabin, having a long conversation with God and writing down by invisible force the ‘Christian’ doctrines that are then published to today’s fervent acclaim?” I used quotes from the Victorian Spiritists and quotes from the above three named authors and in all cases the language and method of writing was virtually the same. Of course, the answer is that there is no difference.

In the course of researching the background for those two essays, I noticed two similarities in the emotional lives of these automatic writers used by spirits from the other side. This essay will explore how these authors are similar across time, and thus hopefully will provide an understanding of how satan works in the vulnerable for his purposes today.

One thing these people all have in common is they all had a Christian-ish background. The second thing they all had in common was abuse, parents who were distant either physically or emotionally, and trauma of severe kinds that usually resulted in a deep depression throughout adulthood. It was in the depths of their depressions at the bottom of their turmoil that they began to experience the call from the other side. Here are their stories.

Emanuel Swedenborg is ‘credited’ as the father of the latest iteration of New Age demonic Spiritism. He lived from 1688 to 1752. Swedenborg’s father was a theologian who preached to the Swedish King. Swedenborg’s father became professor of theology at Uppsala University and Bishop of Skara. However, Swedenborg’s father became involved in the Pietist movement which was a break from some of the basic tenets of the day, and his father was eventually branded a heretic. This caused Swedenborg to question everything and eventually he decided to pursue science as a career.

As an adult, Swedenborg had been thrust into a deep depression, and he started to record in great detail what was happening to him. He wrote:

“How I found, after I arrived at The Hague, that my interest and the love for my work were gone, at which I myself wondered. How the desire for women so rapidly changed, which had been the main passion of mine. How I have had the best possible sleep at night, which has been more than good. My clear thoughts in these matters.” Increased sleeping and difficulties in concentrating on his scientific work were accompanied by depressive thoughts about his own worth. He wrote in another place: “I wondered about having nothing left to do for my own honor, so that I was even touched; about why I was not inclined for sex, which I have been in all my days. How I was in waking trances nearly the whole time.” The changes in his emotional life and the withdrawal of desire was accompanied by hallucinatory or visionary states of the kind so common for Swedenborg’s later activity as a mystic.”

Rudyard Kipling was born in Bombay, India. At age 5 he was sent to reside with a couple in Portsmouth who boarded children of British nationals who were serving in India. This was customary at the time. Brits wanted their children raised in their own language and culture with a British education. Kipling later recalled the stay at his foster parents’ home with horror, and wondered ironically if the combination of cruelty and neglect which he experienced there at the hands of [foster mother] Mrs. Holloway might not have hastened the onset of his literary life. Kipling preferred to retreat into a fantasy world populated with stories, which he called lies. He also said, “I have known a certain amount of bullying, but this was calculated torture — religious as well as scientific.” (source) He also suffered at the hands of a sadistic brother, “Kipling describes an ugly childhood inquisition where his sadistic foster brother traps him into contradictions, and then accuses him of lying.” So in other words, truth became lies and lies became truth, as the endurance of abuse, separation from his parents, and an overly strict boarding school educational experience twisted his thinking on morals, ethics, and religion. It’s a wonder he even stayed sane.

WB Yeats as an adult recalled the religious crisis he had experienced as a youth in the following terms: “I was unlike others of my generation in one thing only. I am very religious, and deprived by Huxley and Tyndall, whom I detested, of the simple-minded religion of my childhood, I had made a new religion, almost an infallible Church of poetic tradition, of a fardel of stories, and of personages, and of emotions, inseparable from their first expression, passed on from generation to generation by poets and painters with some help from philosophers and theologians. … What Yeats may mean in the passage cited above is that for him religion is related to his perennial sense that life must be comprehended systematically. For the poet refers there to his first attempt to construct a religious system of his own.” In doing this, because the family had a strong tradition of clergy within it, Yeats was at deep contretemps with his father.

The religious system Yeats constructed contained Reincarnation, communication with the dead, mediums, supernatural systems and Oriental mysticism which fascinated Yeats through his life. And we know where that always leads…

Neale Donald Walsch was brought up as a Roman Catholic, was an altar boy, actually. In a conference on ‘God and Love’ at the Fort Collins Lincoln Center, Colorado in what looks to be about ten years ago, Walsch describes his growing disillusionment with the rigidity and minutiae of Catholic traditions as a youth and mocks it cynically in a ‘humorous’ speech. His family encouraged his quest for spiritual truth and eventually he wound up informally studying comparative theology for many years. In that quest, Walsch did not turn to the bible but to himself. “Walsch’s vision is an expansion and unification of all present theologies to render them more relevant to our present day and time.” In other words, Walsch’s journey was away from Jesus and toward a false religion updated and made modern to today’s seekers. Emotionally, in 1996 Neale Donald Walsch realized his life was a mess. He has written that his relationships weren’t working. His health wasn’t good. He got fired from his job. “I woke up one night just angry, really frustrated, and wrote down what was on my mind. God answered.” He then had successive conversations with “God” which became the nine-part series “Conversations With God.”

William P. Young was born to missionary parents and within a stone age cannibalistic tribe that his parents were evangelizing in New Guinea. At age six he returned to Canada and attended 13 different schools before graduating and then attending Bible College. He earned his religion degree and then went on to seminary. In his case, “sexual abuse was probably the most fundamental building block of my shack.” When he was a young child, he said, tribal people near his parents’ missionary station abused him, and more abuse came at a boarding school. At age 38 he had an affair that nearly cost him his marriage. Young says the book “The Shack” was born from the pain he was feeling inside while at the same time recognizing he was a religious performer: “Young says he became “a perfectionist performer with a persona that you present to the world covering up an ocean of shame. I’m the oldest. I took the brunt of some of the negative dynamics in our family at the time. A lot of those things fed into becoming a perfectionist performer. I held it together until I was thirty-eight years old, and then it all blew apart thanks to the grace of God, and I started an eleven year process of dismantling everything and putting it all back together.”

For the next 11 years Young worked through his understanding of “the nature and character of God.” By the end of 2004 he had come to “peace with myself and peace with my sense of who I believe God to be”—a process he condensed to a weekend in the book. He has also said that he wrote four chapters in one weekend and one chapter he never even edited, it just came out whole and stayed intact through all the editing processes of the book.

Beth Moore was raised a Christian in Arkansas, attending church and Sunday School regularly. She earned a political science degree from college and after a few years took a bible doctrine class at her church. Moore has been very open about the sexual abuse she suffered as a child from a family member, mentioning it every chance she is in public, just about. She is also well known for having shared her personal thoughts on her low self-esteem, worthlessness, insecurity, etc. and in fact has memorialized those feelings in most of her books. For all that, she is closely guarded about her personal life but it is my opinion that the frequency with which she raises her personal traumas is an indicator that they are not slain and are in fact indicative of a deep depression, despite all her perkiness.

In all the cases above the person who eventually descended into automatic writing and false doctrines had a working knowledge of the bible, Jesus, and theology. In other words, they were not atheists nor were they raised in a godless environment absent any or all knowledge of who God is or what He requires of us.

Secondly, I noticed that the people I’ve mentioned in part 1 of the old days and part 2 of the current crop of writers we are examining had severe and long-term trauma in their lives. They were horrifically abused, and/or were abandoned, fell into depressions, were attempting to claw their way out of some kind of traumatizing pain.

In the cases I read about, and they are anecdotal to be sure, none of the people said, “I was having a tremendously satisfying career, a strong marriage, and I felt joyful and grateful to God, when I suddenly felt the call from the other side…” Nope. In all the cases, the automatic writers were at their most vulnerable, and at their lowest point of faith, or having abandoned their faith for a false faith so of course it wasn’t there to shore them up.

When we are at our most vulnerable is when we are at our most vulnerable. It sounds redundant but it is a truism that when we are wrestling with why bad things happen to us we mix our sorrow with anger against God, that is when the spirits come. And of course by that I mean the demons, satan’s crew.

In the cases of our writers, many of them felt a sense of restoration after being contacted from the other side. When we’re down, we all want comfort. Yeats was revived in his emotions and his career after his first automatic writings. Young and Walsch have said that they felt restored through the process of writing these things. I believe Moore uses her writings and her talks on tv and at conferences as a therapy session, as I have stated before. What person suffering from trauma, pain, and depression wouldn’t want to respond to a whisper in their ear that ‘god’ can and will take the pain away? But we must guard our heart. What does that mean exactly?

At Gotquestions.org, it is put like this:

“What does it mean to guard your heart?”
“Every Christian is locked in a constant, intense war with demonic forces. Many of us become so intent on fighting the external spiritual war that we forget that much of our battle is not with external forces, but with our own mind and thoughts. James 1:14-16 tells us, “but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters.” Sin always begins in the mind. A sinner must first conceive and dwell on the sinful action before he actually carries it out. The first line of defense, therefore, must be to refuse to even contemplate a wrongful action. The Apostle Paul tells us to take every thought captive, so that it conforms to the will of God (2 Corinthians 10:3-5).”

We live in a world that will pose tribulations to us.

  • Acts 14:22- “strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying, “ Through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God.”
  • Romans 5:3 – And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance;”
  • Ephesians 3:13 – “Therefore I ask you not to lose heart at my tribulations on your behalf, for they are your glory” are but three examples.

We live in a world that is actually satan’s. (2 Cor 4:4). We need strength to deal with the crafty cunning schemes of the satanic system that is all around us. God gave us armor but the armor does not do any good if it is in the closet. (Eph 6:10-19).

Here is an example of the craftiness of the devil’s schemes. William Young is talking about his writing process. He said “In the first draft there was more religious language. God was actually quoting Scripture, which kinda didn’t work. In the re-write I was actually able to embed Scripture in the conversation almost in a way that people don’t pick it up.” Do you think that God would send words to a person about Himself and then hide them so they are not picked up? ‘But it’s just fiction!’ you say. Well, I read Karen Kingsbury and scripture is quoted. You know it is scripture when you read it. It is not hidden, embedded, or slyly introduced so you don’t pick it up. But the craftiness is that once you divorce the scripture from its source you can then change the wording subtly. Worse, once you’ve done that, it is harder to keep the author accountable.

I hope this 3-part series has shown you that not only the content of certain ‘Christian’ works may be corrupt, but the method of their production may also be corrupt. In my opinion, there is no difference in the demonic contacts the Victorian Spiritists sought and the current crop of Christian-ish writers’ ‘divinely inspired works,’ except one: in the Victorian era the writers were not producing works that were directly about Christianity. Moore, Young and Walsch (and who knows how many others) are stating that God told them these things. Christian, beware. Put on your armor, pray, and go forth in confidence that if you are in the Word, you cannot be beaten down. You are a victor, through His blood and enabled by the Holy Spirit that dwells in you! And perhaps most importantly, if you see a brother or a sister that is struggling, go to them and build them up. Love them:

“Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” (Ephesians 4:29). “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:11)

Satan is such a copycat!

Remember the kid on the playground that used to bug you (or your brother/sister) by copying everything you said? Even when you said “Stop copying me!” they’d giggle and say “Stop copying me!” which at that point would usually devolve into a fistfight.

We know satan is a counterfeiter. We know he never had an original idea, except the one where he says he will exalt himself above God. (Isaiah 14:13-14). It may help to see through scripture exactly the difference in language where God IS and satan copies.

In Daniel 2:21a God changes times and seasons. Just like that. “He changes times and seasons; he sets up kings and deposes them.”

The antichrist will SEEK to change times and seasons. (Dan 7:25). In other translations it says he will think to change them, or he will try to change them. “He will speak against the Most High and oppress his saints and try to change the set times and the laws. The saints will be handed over to him for a time, times and half a time.” You notice here that Jesus HAS complete authority, and He DOES the act. The antichrist/satan is given some authority, he TRIES to do the act.

Jesus IS resurrected in Matthew 28:6, “He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.”

Antichrist SEEMS to be resurrected- Rev 13:3, “I saw one of his heads as if it had been slain, and his fatal wound was healed. And the whole earth was amazed and followed after the beast;”

Jesus DOES miracles. Mark 1:21-28: “Then they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath He entered the synagogue and taught. And they were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. Now there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit. And he cried out,  saying, “Let us alone! What have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Did You come to destroy us? I know who You are—the Holy One of God!” But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be quiet, and come out of him!”  And when the unclean spirit had convulsed him and cried out with a loud voice, he came out of him. Then they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, “What is this? What new doctrine is this? For with authority He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.” And immediately His fame spread throughout all the region around Galilee.”

Antichrist/satan seem to do miracles 2 Thess 2:9, “The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with the work of Satan displayed in all kinds of counterfeit miracles, signs and wonders,” such as this one in Revelation 13:13-14a: “He performs great signs, so that he even makes fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men. And he deceives those who dwell on the earth by those signs which he was granted to do in the sight of the beast…” so the only miracles he does are those he has been granted power to do and  in limited scope, at that, ‘within the sight of the beast.’

God gives the breath of life, Genesis 2:7- “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.”

The antichrist/satan are only granted power to seem to give breath of life and only to an image, not a person, at that: “He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed.” (Rev 13:15)

Satan is of the vine of the earth (Rev. 14:19) but Jesus is the true vine from heaven. (John 15:1-2).

In summary, “For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse.” (Romans 1:20). God’s power is eternal, it has been seen to be so from the beginning. His eternal power is inside you. “You are from God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world.” (1 John 4:4).

Vine of the earth,
illustrated manuscript 1300

Satan is false. He only copies. Anything copied is not real. Make sure you remember where the real power comes from, Jesus. Tap into His power through prayer and bible study, witness and a straight walk. Repent often, love much, and grow strong as fruit of the True Vine. The harvest is coming.
