The myth of Myths: God wrote the true bible, satan writes the myths

It’s so interesting to study the myths of the world when one has a Christian perspective. The other myths then make sense. We can understand their origin, their point of view, their characters … because if a person is a Christian one knows that all other religions and all myths are written by satan.

The Greek and Roman myths in particular are interesting and have many parallels in opposite to the Christian bible. Allow me to offer a few verses which allude to this fascinating story. I say allude, because aside from a few specific bible verses, we don’t know any more. However since all scripture is God breathed and profitable, and the verses are in there, it is good to study them. God wants us to know. He just didn’t happen to reveal it all.

In Genesis 6:1-4, we read that the world had become totally corrupt. One item that God mentioned in aiding and abetting this corruption was the fallen angels, who left their first estate as Jude says, and came down and messed with women. These unholy angels were the worst of the worst, the vilest.

When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown.”

Some people reject this, saying that angels can’t/don’t mate, however the plain language in Genesis says they did. The angels who came to inspect Sodom stayed overnight, slept, and ate. The verse in Hebrews says that holy angels minister to us, unawares, obviously taking on human form and can do so incognito so that we remain unaware. Both the holy angels and the unholy angels have or can adopt a biology when they enter this dimension. (Gen. 18:1–2, 8; 19:1, 5; Heb. 13:2). (If interested there is more here)

In primeval times (pre-flood) vicious and perverse angels came down and sinned with women and spawned a race of fierce and mighty men of old. I believe that this is where we get the myth of the demigods. Homer and Hesiod use the term, hemitheoi, meaning the person had one parent who was a ‘god’ and one who was a mortal. I personally believe that the secular/mythological cultural memory of these half-breeds, such as the mighty men of old mentioned in Genesis 6, were men like Hercules and Aeneas, and were the product of such matings. They really overstepped, and these particular unholy angels who did the deeds were locked up in Tartarus, as Peter explains in 2 Peter 2:4, Holman Standard Christian Bible,

For if God didn’t spare the angels who sinned but threw them down into Tartarus and delivered them to be kept in chains of darkness until judgment;”

Tartarus is the lowest, darkest, worst dungeon.

It is here where the Lord Jesus went after He died, in order to proclaim His success over sin to these forever-lost spirits in chains-

Wilhelm Kotarbinski: The Spirit of the Abyss

For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the spirit, in which he went and proclaimed to the spirits in prison, because they formerly did not obey, when God’s patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water.” (1 Peter 3:18-20)

MacArthur explains, “Those wicked spirits were sent to the abyss because they overstepped the boundaries of God’s tolerance. They filled the earth with their wretchedness to such an extent that not even 120 years of Noah’s preaching convinced anyone beyond his family to repent, believe in God, and escape His judgment. Since that time, the demons who committed such heinous sins had been bound and imprisoned when Jesus died at Calvary. Perhaps by then they thought He had lost the upper hand over them, but such was not the case. Instead He appeared in their midst and proclaimed His triumph. Colossians 2:15 declares, “When [God] had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through [Christ].” (source)

Jude mentions these chained up spirits also,

And the angels who did not stay within their own position of authority, but left their proper dwelling, he has kept in eternal chains under gloomy darkness until the judgment of the great day” (Jude 1:6)

And although it doesn’t say Tartarus, it is there in my opinion that the demons at Gadara pled with Jesus not to be sent to the abyss,

And they begged him not to command them to depart into the abyss.” (Luke 8:31)

Abyss, or abussos in Greek means unfathomable depth, the home of the dead and of evil spirits. “Noooo, anything but Tartarus!! Let us go into the pigs!!

The angels are called the ‘sons of God.’ In the bible version, satan, a son of God, wanted to overthrow the Father,

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! 13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.” (Isaiah 14:12-15)

Photo of statue of The Jupiter de Smyrne, discovered in Smyrna in 1680

But he was and will be unsuccessful. In satan’s version of the Greek mythology, the Olympians, the sons, incited a war in heaven and were successful in overthrowing the fathers.

Revelation 12:7-9 has the real story of the war in heaven, and the ending,

Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon. And the dragon and his angels fought back, but he was defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him

In a postscript to this, frighteningly, these worst of the worst angel criminals will be let out of the abyss on the great day of judgment,

The Abyss of Hell, Sandro Botticelli 1480

And the fifth angel blew his trumpet, and I saw a star fallen from heaven to earth, and he was given the key to the shaft of the bottomless pit. He opened the shaft of the bottomless pit, and from the shaft rose smoke like the smoke of a great furnace, and the sun and the air were darkened with the smoke from the shaft.” (Revelation 9:1-2)

Which brings us back to Genesis- if there are so many they blotted out the sun upon their release there were a LOT of those sinning angels,…and Tartarus must be pretty big to hold them all!

Fortunately, true Christians will be lifted up to heaven bodily, either dead & resurrected or alive, we will be glorified, and spend eternity with Jesus in New Jerusalem, before the terrible demons are let out of the abyss..

All other religions are written by satan, and so are the myths. What are myths? Why do they originate?

Robert Graves said in the “Introduction,” to his New Larousse Encyclopedia of Mythology

Mythology is the study of whatever religious or heroic legends are so foreign to a student’s experience that he cannot believe them to be true. . . . Myth has two main functions. The first is to answer the sort of awkward questions that children ask, such as: ‘Who made the world? How will it end? Who was the first man? Where do souls go after death?’. . . . The second function of myth is to justify an existing social system and account for traditional rites and customs.

Lawrence J. Hatab said it simply. In his book Myth and Philosophy he wrote, “A myth is a narrative which discloses a sacred world.

If you don’t have Jesus, who is the Truth, then you are only too willing to insert into your spiritual vacuum a myth which will attempt disclose a sacred world. It will be a false world, but it will have germs of ancient truth, but will be wrapped in a lie. I’m so grateful satan cannot re-write the truth, it will be as God ordains. Satan will lose his place and be cast down, and eventually be incarcerated in the Lake of Fire forever. (Revelation 20:10). If you don’t have Jesus as Truth though, you will be open to any supposed “sacred” mythology. See how deeply these people were deceived by the myth when the real God’s representatives were standing in front of them!

And when the crowds saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in Lycaonian, “The gods have come down to us in the likeness of men!” Barnabas they called Zeus, and Paul, Hermes, because he was the chief speaker. And the priest of Zeus, whose temple was at the entrance to the city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates and wanted to offer sacrifice with the crowds. But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of it, they tore their garments and rushed out into the crowd, crying out, “Men, why are you doing these things? We also are men, of like nature with you, and we bring you good news, that you should turn from these vain things to a living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all that is in them.” (Acts 14:11-15)

Sarah Young, was it really Jesus Calling, or someone else?

Sarah Young has a special relationship with Jesus. While we all seek closeness with the Savior, and an intimate walk is to be praised, Ms Young’s definition of intimacy with Christ is vastly different from mine. The excerpt below is from her book Jesus Calling. The book was reviewed by Tim Challies and the book has a host of doctrinal problems and issues. It is not recommended.

I’m not looking at doctrinal things in this essay. Instead, I am going to look at Ms Young’s statements about the feelings and experiences she had with the “Presence” during her devotional and prayer times. They are part of a trend I’d identified earlier this summer, over-romanticizing Jesus. Ultimately it is a centuries-long outgrowth of the Gnostic attack of depreciating Him.

In this excerpt from her book, Ms Young wrote,

“One night I found myself leaving the warmth of our cozy chalet to walk alone in the snowy mountains. I went into a deeply wooded area, feeling vulnerable and awed by cold, moonlit beauty. The air was crisp and dry, piercing to inhale. Suddenly I felt as if a warm mist enveloped me. I became aware of a lovely Presence, and my involuntary response was to whisper, ‘Sweet Jesus.’ This utterance was totally uncharacteristic of me, and I was shocked to hear myself speaking so tenderly to Jesus. As I pondered this brief communication, I realized it was the response of a converted heart; at that moment I knew I belonged to Him. This was far more than the intellectual answers for which I’d been searching. This was a relationship with the Creator of the universe.”

Besides being embarrassing as faux-poetical teenage tripe of the most ridiculous sort, there is something here I want you to be aware of. It’s her use of romantic allusions and language more akin to language found in dime novel bodice-rippers than in referring to the Holy God of Israel. I’ve written before about the terrible trend of ‘Jesus is my Boyfriend’ and the carnality inherent in that particular depreciation. Here we find it again, with a tinge of sexuality and worse, apparent forays into mythological mating.

First, a response in biblical terms regarding Ms Young’s moonlight walk as she described it. She says, ‘at that moment I knew I belonged to Him.’ Presumably by faith she has already been the recipient of a converted heart through the grace of Jesus, but it was only after she had a vulnerable, moonlight walk with her boyfriend Jesus that she knew she was saved? It was only ‘at that moment’ she knew she belonged to Him? Her personal, temporal experience cemented her faith and not the Holy word?

Yet, the bible says-

“And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment.” (1 John 3:23)

Ms Young wrote about the impetus for the book. “I began to wonder if I, too, could receive messages during my times of communing with God. I had been writing in prayer journals for years, but that was one-way communication: I did all the talking. I knew that God communicated with me through the Bible, but I yearned for more…”

Is not the bible sufficient for all revelation from God? It is supposed to be. Faith is believing on His name, not the experiences or revelations we receive from an unknown source.

Jesus is not your boyfriend. He is not your lover. Compare her language about being with Jesus to Mary’s response in Luke 1 to the angel who had just told Mary she would conceive. When Gabriel came to tell Mary she would bear a Son by the Spirit ‘overshadowing’ her, (Luke 1:35) there were no descriptions of warm mist or sweet presence or being enveloped … or anything involuntary. What Mary responded was “And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.”” (Luke 1:38).

When realizing she was in the presence of a holy angel of God, (never mind Jesus Himself), how Mary felt was acutely agitated and greatly troubled. (Luke 1:29). And Luke 1:46-55 records Mary’s response to the news. She didn’t say “I belong to Him” but, “My soul magnifies the LORD.” She didn’t say, “This is a relationship with the Creator of the Universe” but, “he has looked on the humble estate of his servant.”

Seeing Ms Young’s fervent desire to have personal revelations delivered to her from Jesus, her automatic writing of the conversations she then turned into a best-selling devotional, and her responses to the ‘Presence” as compared to the actual responses from people in the bible when they were in His presence, tells me that what Ms Young experienced was not from Jesus.

So? What was it?

If you are a believer and you read Greek mythology, you’ll notice the gods were capricious and were always attracted to the people of earth, particularly the young maidens. These gods, who never practiced self-restraint, were always looking down and noticing this maiden or that one, falling in love or lust with one they had spotted in a forest glen or by the seaside or some such. They were forever abandoning their estate on Mt Olympus. They frequently came down to ravish a maiden or two. Since they were not flesh, they took the forms of other things to do the deed; a husband, a swan, a golden cloud, etc. When the maidens got pregnant, they birthed a demi-god, who were strong and mighty and had powers.

Hercules was one of these hybrids. Achilles was another.

The bible says, “the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. … The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown.” (Genesis 6:2,4).

The bible records that after the fall and before the flood, the earth was very evil. (Gen 6:5) Jesus said those were the Days of Noah and the time right before His second coming would be like that again. (Mt 24:36-39). One of the elements that made the world so evil then were the mighty men who were on earth in those days, ransacking the world and polluting the people’s hearts. The Greek myths are vestigial memories of the actual events of the Nephilim when they were on the earth in those days, re-written to suit satan’s preferred ending.

The sons of God are angels. It is fallen angels the verses refer to. The verse says what it says. The angels are spirit people, created by God, but nonetheless, they assumed human form somehow and procreated with women on earth. John MacArthur said whenever a holy angel came to earth, they looked like men. The unholy angels do the same. (2 Cor 11:14-15). He said he doesn’t know how the biology or physiology works with the fallen angels referred to in Genesis 6, whether there is a closet of human suits in heaven and a fallen angel picks one when he comes to earth, lol, or if their spirit infiltrates a human from birth or at some point after, or something else we are not privy to. Ultimately, we don’t understand ‘how’ it happened but we believe it did happen.

The ways the Greek ‘gods’ (fallen angel Nephilim) are said to have come to the maidens were varied. In one of them, and it is this one that most closely resembles Ms Young’s experience, Danae’s story is told.

Remember, Ms Young said she was walking alone, felt vulnerable, and a warm mist suddenly enveloped her. She involuntarily whispered ‘Sweet Jesus.’ At that moment she ‘knew she belonged to him.’

Danae was a vulnerable maiden whose father had locked her in a dungeon so no men could violate her. The Greek god Zeus, disguising himself as a cloud, secretly entered her chamber and rained down on her a shower of gold, irresistibly enveloping her in his presence. Danae became entranced and opened herself to him.

From which source does Ms Young’s experience seem closer to? Mary’s when she was overshadowed by the Spirit? Or Danae’s when she was overcome by Zeus?

It is a concern that Ms Young did not have faith in Jesus according to what the bible says, but ‘belonged to him’ only after she had a romantic moonlight sensuous moment when a cloudlike presence overwhelmed her. Just like Danae’s…

Please be diligent in using your spiritual radar. Be aware of what you are reading or listening to. Are the words from the book or sermon from the bible, or from someone’s experiences? Are the scriptures they use based on proper context? Do they raise or lower Jesus from His exalted position? Satan is subtle. Detecting the gnosticism or the legalism or any other -ism is hard to do, but if you feel your radar going off, pay attention. Pray to the Spirit to lead you into truth, and to show you from the bible how the item you are studying or listening to may or may not be sound. He affirms truth as much as He shows where error may be.

Ultimately, the more more you study the bible the better you will be able to spot a counterfeit. And remember, Jesus is NOT your boyfriend…but satan wants to be.

Ancient and startling petroglyphs found: perhaps of Nephilim?

There is a biblical subject I can safely say fascinates many Christians: the Nephilim.

The interpretation of Genesis 6:1-8 has in recent times been a controversy, but did you know that until the 4th century that it was uniformly – and correctly – interpreted with no controversy? The Septuagint actually translates ‘sons of God’ as angels, because that is who they are. Here is the text. It says what it says:

“When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. Then the LORD said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown. The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the LORD was sorry that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. So the LORD said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.” But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD.”

The bible records after the Fall of man in Genesis 3 that there were sons of God who mated with daughters of man and spawned a race of giants. They were called the Nephilim. Many have ascribed the resulting hybrid race as the Nephilim but the word nephal means to fall, and I believe the Nephilim are actually the fallen angels who did the mating. The fallen angels/Nephilim who did the deed are in chains in the gloomiest dungeon now, as punishment for corrupting man, and as a warning to others who might try the same thing again. (Jude 1:6)

The topic has gotten an unsavory tinge to it not only due to the unwarranted controversy because of the incorrect interpretation, but because I would think also the sexual mating.

Let’s look at the verse. The angels mated with woman, and in the next verse God declared His Spirit would not strive with man forever. Then the verse says that they were the mighty men of renown, and the LORD declares the earth was evil, He was sorry He had made man, and He will wipe out man (except Noah.)

If the evil of man and the cataclysmic judgment of same was inextricably tied to the Nephilim, don’t you think it behooves us to study it?? Especially since Jesus said that the days before the next cataclysmic judgment would be like the Days of Noah??? (Matthew 24:37). Avoiding this topic makes no sense.

When I read archaeological sites and they present petroglyphs of ancient alien-like beings, I personally believe they are depicting the Nephilim who were on earth on those days. Nephilim are aliens: off-planet dwellers visiting earth, bringing with them their superior knowledge and powers, and shining with a bright light. After all, how did the Pyramids get built? What are the Nazca Lines? Why were there such advanced civilizations at places like Peru’s Machu Picchu or the US Southwest’s Anasazi, which mysteriously died out just as quickly as they appeared? When the Nephilim were on earth on those days, I am sure that they were plenty busy, and not just with women. They didn’t come here just to mate, but to thwart God’s plan. Remember, satan’s goal is to be like the Most High, to be worshiped. Satan has a plan, too. (Isaiah 14:13-15). The Nephilim were busy interacting with man in a way that would corrupt civilization in every arena, including spiritual as well as emotional, agricultural, geo-physical, sexual, societal… And by the verse in Genesis 6:5, they were successful.

There are ancient petroglyphs showing strange looking ‘alien-like’ beings. Often they are depicted with glowing heads or as shining beings. Also they are often depicted as being very large in size. Here’s one:

This one is also from Australia, where
the new petroglyphs were discovered

Today some ancient rock art was discovered that not only depict otherworldly type beings, but they are drawn in the act of having sex. The news articles (lol, the UK Daily Mail tabloid would be the first to pick up on it…) are snickeringly calling it “ancient porn.” The intricate paintings depict strange looking and rather large men having relations with women. Here is the news article link:

Aboriginal erotic rock art proves that – even 28,000 years ago – men had ONE thing on their minds

The area is only accessible by a 90-minute helicopter ride into the Australian interior. I thought that was probably the most interesting fact in the whole article. Though the article reports the archaeologists as dating the rock art to 28,000 years ago, Christians know that cannot be true. However it does indicate the ancient age of the art, raising the likelihood of it having been drawn at the time the Nephilim were on the earth.

Now, a caution. While I said up above that it behooves us to study the Nephilim, I meant from the bible. There are a host of weird and flaky websites that have wild theories and many frankly are spam sites. We study man’s fallen condition from his progression from his creation in Genesis 1, to his fall in Genesis 3, to the depths of corruption in Genesis 6. Chasing after ancient aliens diverts us from studying the Most High God.

Another note: The Daily Mail is known for its large photos with lots of short captions in between. If you click on the headline above from the Daily Mail, be aware that there is a large photo showing the large men in the petroglyphs and they all sport something else that is extremely large, too.

Here are a couple of links to essays that deal with the Genesis 6 text in expositional fashion. The information is from solid sources. Do go there and read them, if you have any questions about the interpretation of the Nephilim passages.

Apostates, Be Warned, Part 2

Who were the sons of God?

So that is your weird news of the day!

Future prophecy: "Woe to the inhabitants of the earth, for they have come down to you"

Satan has the biggest ego in all the universe, bar none. In the sometime distant past, the bible does not say when, Satan decided he could do a better job than God. He is accused of the following:

“How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! You said in your heart, “I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain. I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.” But you are brought down to the grave, to the depths of the pit.” (Isaiah 14:12-15 ESV).

This famous passage is called the ‘Five I Wills’ of Satan. Most people think the phrase ‘you have been cast down to the earth’ means satan was cast out of heaven back then and barred from re-entering. But it is not so. He was cast down from his position as guardian cherub (Ezekiel 28:14) but Job 1:6 shows us that satan and his rebelling angels still had access to heaven. They still do today.

Satan’s final fall and exile from heaven will occur in Revelation 12, when there is “War in Heaven.”

“Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon. And the dragon and his angels fought back, but he was defeated, and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him. Therefore, rejoice, O heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to you, O earth and sea, for the devil has come down to you in great wrath, because he knows that his time is short!” (Rev 12:7-12).

Scholars believe that event is what triggers the Great Tribulation, the turning point halfway through the 7-year period of judgment on earth. Satan’s fury at his loss of access to heaven will be unleashed against the Jews and then the Christians. (Rev 12:13, 17)

I’d like to tie Rev 12 to two other verses that are prophesied to occur during the Tribulation. Just food for interpretive thought. First, Luke 21:26 KJV- “Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.” The phrase fainting in the Greek means “to leave off breathing, to die.” The “with fear” is Greek for a word that means “panic flight, fear, the causing of fear, terror.” The powers of heaven being shaken, the Greek word for shaken means “cast down”. (source)

So men will have instant heart attacks and be fleeing in terror when they see something coming down from heaven. What? What is it that they are seeing which causes such panic and hear-attack inducing terror? Meteors? Asteroids? UFOs?

I’d like to think that it is the Revelation verse that they are seeing. It is my belief that when Satan and his angels are cast down, they no longer hide who they are. Satan and the full-on evil angels reveal themselves visibly and no one will be unawares any longer. Imagine seeing multitudes of evil angels and satan himself falling from heaven and appearing on earth- visibly.

We are visited by angels constantly. They are present upon the earth, the good angels and the bad angels. Most of the time, we are not aware of them, though. Hebrews 13:2 says we have entertained them unawares. Abraham entertained angels unaware, didn’t he? And Gideon. And Minoah. And the evil angels too, are on the earth, but if they appeared to us as they are, with their evil showing, we would reject them. So satan, despite having a big ego, is perfectly content to allow us to think he is a tiny man with a funny tail and pitchfork and his rebellious, powerful, and highly intelligent minions are cute little cherubs falling asleep after dinner. Satan is content to let you think he is not powerful, while all the while himself thinking he is the most powerful, even more than God.

Who would be afraid of this guy?
Sistine Madonna detail, Raphael. Aw, aren’t they cute.
Rosso Fiorentino “Two cherubs reading,
detail from Madonna and Child with Saints”. So cuddly.
They don’t look like they could do much, do they?

Yet, if my interpretation of Luke 21:26 is correct, that it is speaking of the powers of heaven falling to earth when men see the actual satan and the evil angels invading earth, men die on the spot. Add to that this verse, the second one I believe ties in:

“And the fifth angel blew his trumpet, and I saw a star fallen from heaven to earth, and he was given the key to the shaft of the bottomless pit. He opened the shaft of the bottomless pit, and from the shaft rose smoke like the smoke of a great furnace, and the sun and the air were darkened with the smoke from the shaft. Then from the smoke came locusts on the earth, and they were given power like the power of scorpions of the earth.” (Rev 9:1-3). Illustration is of the trumpets and the locusts from the abyss, Matthias Scheits

The evil is raining down from above and hurtling up from below. I don’t know if they both happen at the same time, but either way, it will be a time of shock and death.

Am I exaggerating? Let’s see how the shepherds reacted when a holy angel, bringing good news and helps,  visited them.

“An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified.” (Luke 2:9)

How about Zechariah’s reaction when an angel visited him?

Zechariah and the angel.
Gillem van der Gouwen. 1728

“When Zechariah saw him, he was startled and was gripped with fear.” (Luke 1:12)

How about Mary?

“Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be.” (Luke 1:29)

“He distinctly saw an angel of God, who came to him and said, “Cornelius!” Cornelius stared at him in fear…” (Acts10:3-4a)

In all these cases it is AN angel of the Lord, which means a holy angel, not THE angel of the Lord, which means Jesus. And they all were terrified. To calm the person they were about to speak to, they first said, “Fear not.”

If people are terrified when seeing a holy angel obedient to God and here to help us, how do we think the people in the Tribulation will react when the evil angels are unleashed? Their hearts will fail them for fear.

Ron Graham explains the Genesis 6 verses about the unholy angels, here. Patrick Heron explains the entrance of the unholy angels upon the earth further, below. He gives the book of Enoch more authority than I give to it, but he does do a good job leading us through the present day common misinterpretations of Genesis 6. So does Mr Graham. Check them out if you’d like to explore this idea further.

We are blessed to know Jesus as Savior, Priest, Advocate and Friend. We know that if we are visited by an unholy angel that we can appeal to Jesus for protection. He is ALL POWER and in Him we have nothing to fear.

“The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah.” (Psalm 46:7).
“The LORD is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.” (Psalm 9:9)

But those who refuse Jesus’s pardon on this side of the rapture will be faced with seeing these things some upon the earth after the rapture. Please repent now. Repent means to be aware that we are unholy, having sin in us. We can never be with Jesus as long as sin is in us and not addressed. If we repent, He will forgive all that sin and adopt us into His extended family.

Random thoughts: Nephilim, myths, comments, compassion, children, and Jesus the Christ

I am very intrigued by the Nephilim spoken of in Genesis 6. Many people are, and I always get a lot of views on any essay I publish about them. I might research some more about the days of Noah, soon. When I was in high school I was fascinated by Roman and Greek mythology. I studied it all. The Titans, the Olympians … Cronus was the leader and the youngest of the first generation of Titans, divine descendants of Gaia, the earth, and Uranus, the sky. He overthrew his father and ruled during the mythological Golden Age, until he was overthrown by his own son, Zeus and imprisoned in Tartarus. Tartarus in the bible as we know is the place where Peter described the fallen angels being chained up. (2 Peter 2:4)

I believe the ancient myths are a vestigial memory of the fallen angels, the “mighty men of old” (Genesis 6:4) coming to earth and having supernatural powers … and we know from the bible that they certainly did take the daughters of men, all that they chose. The myths reflect this lack of self-restraint too. That is practically all they did, always go after women who ended up bearing super-men half breeds like Hercules. Achilles, another demi-god, brings to mind the prophecy in Genesis 3, where God said to satan that satan will strike the heel, and in the myth the heel was the vulnerable spot (but just like all false religions, the truth is that the hero could not be overcome by striking His heel!!) It was just a temporary bruising, and Jesus crushed satan’s head through His death and resurrection on the cross.

So I think there is weighty cultural memory and man-made myths stemming from the influx of the original fallen angels and their first interaction with humans as described in Genesis 6. I think the pyramids and the South American ziggurats are results of their superior intellect in building them and using humans to make monuments of worship for them.

The bible doesn’t speak much of these events, just gives several tantalizing clues in a few verses. However we know that they and also man’s evil were the cause of the flood. So SOMETHING had to have been going on! It will be interesting if Jesus lets us know what really happened when we get to heaven…and we can resolve all these tantalizing glimpses into full knowledge.

On another topic, I want to explain what kind of comments I allow and what will prompt me to delete some. This is not a complete explanation but it is the basic benchmark.

Some people will write in and say “you’re crazy.” Or “you’re mental.” If that is all they write I delete it. If they conclude their own cogent argument with that I’ll usually allow it and respond.

Some people disagree with me by using a false and true misapplication of scripture to ‘prove’ their point. They’ll say, “Judge not!” or “Touch not God’s anointed!” or one of those oft-thrown around misunderstood and out of context verses. I will allow those and then explain the context of the verse and why they are using it incorrectly. I do both of the above so that others reading may learn an insight into the verse.

Some people write a long reply which shows me they are passionate about something, but say something in it that I just cannot allow to go forward. Yesterday someone wrote a long comment and there were many errors in their answer. That is OK, we’re all learning. We could have a discussion. But he concluded by saying “Jesus is not God.” I deleted it because arguing that would be a fulfillment of casting pearls before swine. (Matthew 7:6). If someone has an incomplete or incorrect understanding of a verse, that is OK and can be discussed. If someone has come to such a false conclusion about the basics of who Jesus is, there is no argument, he has already condemned himself. It is a case of the saved arguing with the unsaved, offering holiness to a person who has already rejected it. I will not participate in allowing such falsity to go out to the unsuspecting. Nope. And worse, usually people who say such things have a website attached to their comment, and so I won’t put that forward either.

Profanity never gets a pass. I delete those out of hand.

A new topic. This week was a really rough week. I work in a kindergarten section of an elementary school. We know that times are tight. Parents are stressed to the max to pay the bills to keep a home over their kids’ heads and to put food on the table. Kids sense this and more often not only sense it but know it because of the open discussions he parents have in front of them. Yet kids are powerless to change their circumstances. They feel tenuous because their family situation is tenuous. They worry. Sometimes that worry comes out physically and emotionally and it makes for an adventuresome day at school. Today was like that. Please have care and compassion for other people, and for kids. If you’re standing in line at a store or at a game or sitting in a restaurant, no one knows what the next person is going through, and everyone needs an extra dose of patience and for sure needs some love. Instead of mentally judging the parent or situation, pay their bill, or offer to help them with their groceries or simply smile.

In the middle of that tough week before our Spring Break, (which has started, yay!) here is a moment. Some of the kindergarten kids I work with had saved up their behavior rewards. If they save up for a short time they get ice cream or a pajama day. But if they save up for a long time they get the big prize, a pizza party. So they did, finally. They brought their beach towels and their sunglasses and we went outside on a 78 degree day with pizza and chips and soda. They spread their towels around and sat next to each other happily. They donned sunglasses and thought themselves so cool. They leaned back on elbows and looked at the clouds, saying “There’s a dog!” or “I see a turtle! The pizza was served and they ate all they wanted. Afterwards we were all just lounging on the grass, and suddenly they broke out in song. They sang under the sun, and when they finished they laughed delightedly. Children laughing under the sun in joy is a Godly gift for which I am always thankful.

Last, remember always that Jesus is sovereign, loving, and He is coming! He is my Light and My hope. He is someone I cling to, look toward, and reside in. He is my all in all. Without Him I am nothing but in Him I am made perfect because His power is in me and brushes aside my weakness and is His manifest glory. Everything I accomplish is made possible from Him. Thank you, Jesus.

Outbreak of mass hysteria (or demon infestation) in Leroy NY

Mass hysteria outbreak reported in N.Y. town: What does it mean?
“Why did 12 teens from the same town in upstate N.Y. all begin to experience odd symptoms at once? Doctors say it’s an outbreak of mass hysteria. Last fall, 12 teenage girls from LeRoy Junior-Senior High School – located in a town about an hour outside of Buffalo, N.Y. – began to show symptoms similar to those of Tourette’s syndrome, including painful shaking and jerking their necks, Gothamist reported. Doctors were initially baffled. The condition was so bad for at least one of the girls that she has yet to return to school. School and state officials investigated the outbreak and school building for several months, and concluded no known environmental substances or infectious agents were found that could have caused the symptoms in the teens. “We have conclusively ruled out any form of infection or communicable disease and there’s no evidence of any environmental factor,” Dr. Gregory Young of the New York Department of Health told MSNBC.”

Sanchez, a cheerleader at the high school, took a nap one day last October then woke up with uncontrollable tics and stutters. Sanchez and another girl on the show with symptoms, 16-year-old Katie Krautwurst, said doctors told them their condition was stress-induced. “They told us it was traumatic, but I really don’t think any of us had that traumatic of a life before,’ Krautwurst said on Today.

Tourette’s is genetic so it’s unlikely to be that since the symptoms don’t emerge all at once. Also, Tourette’s symptoms are 4X more prevalent in boys, so it is highly improbable to be Tourette’s because all the symptoms are in only girls.

A day after the girls’ interview, Dr. Laszlo Mechtler, a neurologist at the DENT Neurologic Institute in Amherst, N.Y. who has treated several of the girls, decided to come forward to offer an explanation to quell the curious masses. Mechtler’s diagnosis? The girls may have a conversion disorder – also known as mass hysteria.”

Conversion disorder is a condition in which the person experiences blindness, paralysis, or other neurologic symptoms that can’t be explained by another disease. In other words, a catch-all diagnosis by doctors effectively shrugging their shoulders. The article continues, “the disorder often occurs because of a “psychological conflict. Mechtler told USA Today that when a conversion disorder occurs in a large group, its known as a “mass psychogenic illness,” because it affects groups of people in the same environment, such as in a classroom or office. “This is a unique situation, and it is unusual,” Mechtler told USA Today.”

Other Tourette’s symptoms include motor and vocal “tics”, twitches, blinks or vocal exclamations that the sufferer cannot control. Tourette’s is also characterized by behavioral symptoms like excessive-complusive disorder and attention-deficit disorder. Tourette’s sufferers may also be overly aggressive towards others.

Conversion disorder is marked by numbness, blindness, paralysis or fits. Also, outbursts, shaking and tics.

Now, the medical establishment said that what is happening in Leroy is unusual. The people in the town said it was unusual, so much so, that the school department held a meeting for the area’s concerned parents. It is unusual.

The Leroy NY made me think of our nations’ most famous case of mass hysteria with demonic influences underlying it, also incited by teenaged girls, was Salem Massachusetts. It happened in 1692 and it is known as the Salem Witch Trials.

The traditional story about the beginning of the Salem Witch trials tells of a “circle of young girls” practicing voodoo and fortune telling under the direction of Samuel Parris’ Indian slave, Tituba. It is commonly suggested that the girls were interested in fortune telling because they wanted to know the occupation of their future husbands.”

According Paul Boyer and Stephen Nissenbaum’s account in Salem Possessed, the outbreak at Salem began in the winter of 1691 when the girls of the village, aided by Tituba and John Indian, a West Indian slave couple, attempted to tell their futures by using a makeshift crystal ball.”

We know that this is occult activity, better known as a neon advertisement for satan to enter. (2 Kings 17:17; Lev 19:31; Is 8:19…)

Research indicates the Salem girls’ symptoms emerged quickly, similar to the Leroy NY girls’.

In this research it states, “Mary Beth Norton’s work, In the Devil’s Snare. According to historical fact, both Abigail and her 9-year-old cousin Betty began showing signs of illness in mid-January 1692. When their behavior turned erratic, Samuel Parris called neighboring Reverend John Hale of Beverly to observe the two girls and their afflictions. Reverend Hale writes that the girls, “were bitten and pinched by invisible agents; their arms, necks and backs turned this way and that way and returned back again so as it was impossible for them to do of themselves and beyond the power of any Epileptic Fits or natural Disease to effects.” Parris and other local ministers turned to prayer and fasting in hopes that Abigail and Betty would return to health. When the girls’ strange behavior continued, Parris summoned Dr. William Griggs to examine them. Dr. Griggs determined that the girls were under the influence of an “Evil Hand.”

The emergence of strange behavior related to demonic possession in Salem in 1692 as now in NY 2012 are similar. We look to the bible to see what demons can do. The Gadarene demoniac described in Mark shows how they can change the physiology of the one they possess:

Mark 5:1-20 is one of the most specific passages in the bible on demon possession and its effects. Some of the details about demons the Bible reveals in this passage are: (source)
–Devils enjoy or need to be near dead human bodies or tombs (vs. 2, 3, 5).
–They can cause unusual strength in the one they inhabit (vs. 3-4).
–They can make a person unreasonable or immune to sensible persuasion (vs. 4).
–They cause excessive crying (vs. 5).
–They cause sadistic and masochistic behavior (vs. 5).
–They have an affinity for heights (vs. 5).
–They recognize Christ as “the Son of God” and appeal to Him (vs. 6-7).
–They know they deserve torment and dread it (vs. 6-7).
–They have names (vs. 9).
–More than one can possess the same body (vs. 9).
–They desire to remain in the same geographical region or “country” they inhabit (vs. 10).
–They would rather indwell an animal body than none at all (vs. 12).
–They can cause animals to kill themselves (vs. 13).
–They desire to be in a body (vs. 13).

Mark 9:17-29 gives us even more details about devils:
–They can cause dumbness and deafness (vs. 17, 25).
–They cause rabid animal like behavior (vs. 18).
–They can indwell from childhood (vs. 21).
–They cause suicidal behavior (vs. 22).
–They resist leaving a body and violently “rent” it while leaving (vs. 26).
–There are different kinds of devils. Some have more power than others (vs. 29).
–Some can only be removed by prayer and fasting of believer (vs. 29).

Lessons from this incident: Demonic possession happens. It happened then, it happens now. Secondly, Ron Graham wrote an excellent article this week about the fallen angels, the Nephilim, and their human offspring, the human hybrids. In the article, he said, “But the dimension of the malevolent supernatural is invading our world and they are becoming more and more brazen with their antics, allowing many people to see things they don’t want to see, or hear things no human can explain.”

That is well said. Whatever is going in in NY, and medical science has ruled out disease and drugs, then perhaps we can remember that the days before Jesus returns will be like the Days of Noah, which in addition to being totally evil and cultural, moral, and spiritual decay were days that were permeated with demonic activity (Gen 6:1-2; 4,6).

Are vampire babies even possible?

That is the trending question today on Yahoo!. Apparently the success of the Twilight series on books and film is continuing unabated. Twilight is the saga of a ‘nice’ vampire- Edward- and the human woman he loves – Bella. They married and now she is pregnant with an undead vampire-human hybrid. A werewolf is the point of view from which the series is told.

This saga is very popular in many levels. Young women, and not a few men, think that it is romantic. It is romantic, they swoon, that Edward doesn’t bite Bella to make her be undead, too. He has been instilled with a sense of morality by his father, a real human, and thus Edward refuses to consider humans as food. (This is what passes for morality these days?). So readers love Edward’s restraint. They love the series’ romanticism because of Edward’s gallantry, even though he needs to subsist on blood and that means killing things and drinking blood.

The latest iteration of the series focuses on Bella and her baby. The trending question is an interesting one. We passed go when we accepted that vampires could be nice. We apparently cruised by the point of accepting or not accepting that there could be the undead walking around. We long hurtled beyond the horizon of incredulity over marriage and sexual relationships between human and otherworldly bloodthirsty creatures who usually only want to destroy humans. Now we’re onto inter-species baby-making. The opening of the latest movie is said to bring in 140 million dollars. No small change, and Breaking Dawn is the fourth installment! This series is a moneymaker, its popularity and ability to rake in the money never seem to wane.

This acceptance, curiosity, and  romanticism of otherworldly creatures has a biblical precedent. As Solomon said in Ecclesiastes, there is nothing new under the sun. (Ecc 1:9). In Genesis 6 we read the following:

“So when men began to be multiplied upon the earth, and there were daughters born unto them, Then the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair, and they took them wives of all that they liked. (Gen 6:1-2). There were giants on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown. (Gen 6:4).”

The sons of God are the angels. The angels being mentioned in the Genesis verse are the fallen angels, the ones who are rebuked for having left their first estate and are now incarcerated in gloomy dungeons. (June 1:6; 2 Peter 2:4). Angels are referred to as the sons of God in Job 1:6, and in Job 38:7, it is a common term for them. Some have been shown in the bible to manifest as humans, even though they are spirit men. (Hebrews 13:2).  We know that Jesus said that the angels do not marry, (Mark 12:25) but not that they cannot marry, and by extension, have intercourse with human women. In any case, the bible tells us that they did. They saw the women, took all they wanted, and mated. Their offspring were giants, and they were the mighty men of old. (This is the origin of the Greek myths of the ancient heroes of Hercules etc, who were offspring of ‘gods’ who came down and mated with women. I wrote about that here). However, these tribes of giant hybrid offspring were upon the earth in those days before the flood, and it was them along with wicked man who pulled the world to the brink of an evil so great that there was only one righteous man left: Noah.

Genesis 6:5 states: “Then the LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” And in Genesis 6:3 the LORD said, “Then the LORD said, “My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, because he also is flesh; nevertheless his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.” God sent the Flood.

There is precedent for the Lord taking His Spirit from the earth prior to major judgment, as Gen 6:3 says and Paul revealed will also happen prior to the future Tribulation judgments. (2 Thessalonians 2:6). The Lord also said that the last days will be like the Days of Noah, indicating that evil will be almost at a 100% saturation level with evil in men’s hearts, the Spirit being removed from His restraining ministry, and also, possibly, the Nephilim coming back.

Are vampire babies even possible, the article’s author wondered. Yes, the bible shows us that the old vampires, the fallen angels who beguiled women and hypnotized them into frenzies of lust (as folklore says vampires are wont to do) are likely coming back. The Hollywood and Publishing House preparation and desensitization of the populace to these concepts are going gangbusters. So can you even make a vampire baby? If Genesis 6:4 is to be believed, and it IS, then the answer is yes. My opinion is that there will be plenty of vampiric type shenanigans in the Tribulation. For Twilight fans, I have one message: be careful what you romanticize!

The Nephilim and the Fallen Angels, part 2

I wrote Part One of the Nephilim and laid the scriptural groundwork for the fact that before the Flood, fallen angels took women, all that they chose, and mated with them. (Genesis 6:1-2). The result was a hybrid race called The Nephilim, or Mighty Men of Old, of Men of Renown. There have been two ‘irruptions’ (opposite of eruption. Irruption is bursting in, rather than exploding out.) One irruption was before the flood, when Genesis 6 speaks of it, and the other was after the flood, which Genesis 6 also confirms. In addition, the race of giants were spoken by their tribal names (Anakim, Raphaim, Emim) throughout the Old Testament until David was sent to stamp out the last of these tribes. Finally there seemed to be relief from the ungodly mating of angels and human women. No weird races have been spotted since then.

But in the Olivet Discourse, Jesus spoke of the Days of Noah, warning that the same conditions plaguing the earth then would be repeated at the end of days. One of those conditions was the infestation of Fallen Angels taking women and producing ungodly progeny as just mentioned. Then, the thoughts of men were of only evil continually (Gen 6:5) and the implication as that it was due to the Nephilim. Noah was found to be perfect in his generations, or bloodlines, untainted by the hybridization of the plan of the fallen angels.

The unusual amount of Unidentified Flying Objects in my opinion are fallen angels, hovering at the edge of our dimension, waiting for the day when the Holy Spirit will be removed from the earth (an act that also preceded judgment as in Gen 6:3) to have their way with sin upon the world. I also believe the current  fascination with vampires in all levels of the culture is also due to the Fallen Angels. I wrote about that, here. Last, I mentioned that the myths from pagan religions also spoke of celestial beings, gods, that came down and mated with women in a variety of ways, in some cases transfiguring themselves into animals, other men, or even showers of coins in order to seduce the women. In some cases, the ‘gods’ simply enchanted them. In most cases, the myths spoke of the women falling into a drugged state, whether through the enchantments of the gods or because of wine drunk at festivals or orgies that they had attended. Remember the enchantment and the transfiguration.

Let’s examine some of the New Testament scriptures that may allude to the infestation of fallen angels mating with women in the end of the end time and certainly the Tribulation.

Paul told us in no uncertain terms that false apostles will roam the earth from his day to the end of days. We should not be surprised at this, “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.” (2 Corinthians 11:14).

It is good to look at the original Greek words. Most of the English translations say satan “masquerades” or “disguises” himself into an angel of Light. King James uses “transforms.” The Greek word is “metaschématizó” and it means “change the outward appearance of something, to transfigure.” Satan AND his fallen angels can change their outward appearance to something else as it suits them. It is important to note that the word as it is used, ‘transfigure’ is a different one that used for when Jesus transfigured on Mount Tabor, (Mt 17:1-2). That word is metamorphoó, meaning to change from the inside out. Satan cannot change his spots as a leopard can’t change his spots. (Jer 13:23). But he can change enough on the outside to fool the unwary.

Those unwary are prophesied to be silly women. (2 Tim 3:1-6). Let’s unpack the following verses a bit.

Gen 6:5, Titian, “Profane Love (Vanity)” I wonder who that man is, creeping in, & whom the mirror is turned towards?

In those days: “men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts, Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.” (2 Timothy 3:1-5, KJV)

Men will have a form of godliness, a “morphósis” or an outward appearance only. Of these kind, they creep into houses, and lead silly captive women away who are laden with diverse lusts.” Strange. These men who have an outward appearance of godliness, men who are mentioned in the middle of a passage where every unsavory kind of behavior is described, these men appear godly and will worm their way into homes where silly women are ensnared and captivated. Duped and enchanted, these women are drenched in lust, and will respond to these men and be “aichmalótizó-” captivated and ensnared. Hmmm.

Then the verse continues immediately by mentioning Jannes and Jambres withstanding Moses. These were the two magicians who were Pharaoh’s sorcerers. Of all the men who rebelled against God in the bible, these two are mentioned here in connection with carrying lustful women away. Not Saul, not Achan, not Herod or Esau or Cain. The two divinely inspired examples purposely written here are two sorcerers who have an appearance of godliness and take women by enchantment. It is reminiscent of the fallen angels who took women, all that they chose, and mated with them.

The verse goes further in verse 13, saying “But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse __ deceiving and being deceived”. Note the difference between ‘evil men’ and ‘seducers’. Other translations say imposters. Why the distinction between the two? Is not an evil man a seducer and vice versa? And imposter? Well, not when he is an enchanter, as the Greek word for seducer shows. The Greek word seducer/imposter  means, “This person uses their verbal spells and incantations to give the (false) impression they can do miracles, a wailer, enchanter, a sorcerer, a swindler.” Like Jannes and Jambres, enchanters doing false miracles. The verse above says that satan “masquerades” as an angel of light, which is an imposter, and we are also told that he can perform false miracles to fool people.

I am just posing some thoughts on these words in the verses and their deeper meaning within the context. When you really begin looking at the language, and learning the original meanings of the Greek words, it begins to perk me up to the possibilities this is what Jesus and Paul were alluding to about perilous times and the Days of Noah.

Here is my summary of the verses from Jesus and Paul: in the last days, seducers, magicians, enchanters and imposters will come, masquerading as godly, that have light but are dark, that pretend godliness but are the opposite, captivate and then lead away lustful women just as they did in the Days of Noah when every inclination was evil.

I didn’t realize this was getting long, so next time in Part 3, I’ll go into the mighty men who are prophesied to be behind the economy in the Tribulation, also vampirism and drug-induced states where silly women fall captive to these men- i.,e. the vampire’s erotic gaze.

The Nephilim and the Fallen Angels: Part 1

There is a strange doctrine spoken of in the bible, in Genesis 6, and alluded to in several other places in the Old and the New Testaments. The doctrine is also prophesied to occur again in the last days. Strange as this one is, it behooves us to pursue doctrines in good faith, to learn what the Word may be saying to us. It involves the Fallen angels, women, and the Nephilim, their ungodly offspring.

That the fallen angels came to earth and mated with women, is a certainty in my interpretation, though others try to make it into what the scriptures say it’s not but by so doing twist the scriptures to adhere to their pre-suppositions. I always take the plain meaning when it is presented. Here is what the verse says, you decide-
“And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them, That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.” (Genesis 6:1-2)

In the next verses God determined to destroy all living matter on the earth, except for Noah, who had found grace with the LORD.

Could it be? Fallen angels mated with women, took them, actually, and offspring were born? But angels can’t have sex, you say. They cite Mark 12:25, or Matthew 22:30: “For when they rise from the dead, they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven.” The verse says they do not marry, not that they cannot. Angels are eternal, and eternal beings have no need to make more of themselves. They’re eternal. Unless they have an evil goal in mind, that is.

The Genesis verse continues, “There were giants [Nephilim] in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.” (Genesis 6:4-5, NKJV)

The NIV and King James use Nephilim instead of “giants”. Who were these “mighty men”? One was Goliath, a giant for sure, along with his brothers. (1 Samuel 14:4;2 Samuel 21:18-22 KJV). Og, King of Bashan was another. “For only Og king of Bashan was left of the remnant of the Rephaim. Behold, his bedstead was an iron bedstead; it is in Rabbah of the sons of Ammon. Its length was nine cubits and its width four cubits by ordinary cubit.” That means his bed was 18′ X 8′. (Deuteronomy 3:11). Raphaim, from which their tribe was named, means giant, from the Hebrew Rapha.

The giants were on earth in the Land shown by God to Joshua. He and the 12 spies saw that the grape clusters were so large they had to be carried by two men (Numbers 13:13) and that the Anakites were there. Anak means long necked giant and in Deut 1:26-28 & 2:10-11 we learn that they were descended from the Rapha.

There are many other examples, but it seems that the fallen angels of the earliest days of humanity on earth, took women, and the women bore children who were hybrids, half human and half celestial. The women were killed in the flood and the angels who did this were rounded up and jailed in chains in the lowest abyss (Tartarus) until judgment (Jude 1:6) If you know your pagan religions, and later the Greek and Roman mythology, this factual event that the bible describes is represented in mythology of the ‘gods’ who came to earth and took women, producing half-celestial, half human hybrids, such as Hercules.

“The rout of the fallen angels”, Illus to Milton’s “Paradise Lost”. By Wm. Blake

Some examples from Greek mythology are Antiope, the daughter of the Boeotian river god Asopus. Her beauty attracted Zeus, who, assuming the form of a satyr, took her by force. Zeus was busy, he also took Leda while disguised as a swan, and he took Semele as a smooth seducer. Zeus took Alcmene by transfiguring himself into the image of her husband. Zeus resorted to deception to get at Callisto. Callisto had taken a vow of chastity as one of the women who served Artemis, but He came to her disguised as Artemis, and when she let down her guard Zeus raped her. Zeus came to Danae as a shower of golden coins. Neptune took Aethra by force. The satyrs chased everyone.

In ancient mythology, the ‘gods’ who came down from the heavens could enchant, seduce, transfigure, and take all the women that they chose, who later bore hybrid children endowed with supernatural powers and who were giants. In mythology Hercules and Perseus are two examples. In the bible, these were Og, Goliath, Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai, who were the children of Anak; and many others individuals and tribes of giants who were mighty men of renown. You see the parallels.

The Fallen angels under the direction of Satan attempted to corrupt the bloodline of the people whom Jesus said would spring forth the savior. They were successful enough so that by the time of the Flood, the intents of people’s hearts was only evil, continually. Noah was perfect in his generations, meaning, his bloodline was untainted by the genetic corruption the fallen angels were wreaking. God judged all humans and all of the fallen angels who had done this, but spared Noah and the other 7 because they had found grace. The fallen angels didn’t stop, though. After the Flood, there was a second infestation of the Nephilim, resulting progeny of the fallen angels and women whom they chose (“…and also after that” Gen 6:4). These tribes, several of which I mentioned above, were active in the Land until David. After David wiped out the last of them, this particular kind of assault on humanity seems to have sunk into the recesses of myth and cultural memory. Until, perhaps, the Tribulation.

There have been many books written on the subject. It seems to fascinate, and I admit it fascinates me too. I’ve written about the Nephilim and genetic modification here, and UFOs and the Nephilim here. Also about the Nephilim and vampires, here. Patrick Heron wrote a very good book, “The Nephilim and the Pyramid of the Apocalypse.” At the link, you can read the introduction and the first chapter, buy the book, or download it on iTunes. Chuck Missler preached on it in a series, here.

I’ll write part two next, in which I discuss the current vampire obsession, and examine whether it is related to the Nephilim after all. There are some scriptures in the New Testament that the Spirit gave me interesting and deeper insight into, and have investigated and which may well be alluding to the third irruption of these fallen angels and their progeny, the mighty men of old, men of renown. I’ll share those with you next time for your consideration.

Lost city found in Guatemalan rainforest

“The bible was written by stone age camel herders…” That is a paraphrase of one of the most frequently used excuses non-believers give me for not reading the bible. They say that man at the time of the bible, especially the earliest parts, were just incomprehensible musings of neolithic shepherds wandering the desert.

That excuse is bursting with illogic, but what are you gonna do? Non-believers don’t want to believe. Faith is a choice. Anyway, I bring this up because I am a fan of archaeology.

Don’t you ever wonder how the Great Pyramid at Giza was built? It defies technology, archaeology and man’s understanding today of how they did it. As Jack Kelley wrote in his essay The Great Pyramid of Giza: “The Great Pyramid’s builder knew all the dimensions of Earth and had a command of engineering, astronomy, and mathematics that would be impressive even today.” Some stone age shepherds, eh? Extra-biblical writings and traditions say that the first wave of builders of the Pyramid included Job, Shem, and/or Enoch.

These illogical things in the world kept me wondering about God and thus kept the door opened to His Truth. I always wondered how and why pyramids, monuments, and ziggurats were built, and all over the world, too. The Easter Island statures, the Great Pyramids, and the Mayan temples fascinated me, and still do. Far from the false depiction in history books that the world was populated only in the Middle East, and the Americas were an almost empty continent with a few teepees sprinkled here and there, the fact is, the word was full of worshiping, advanced civilizations. And let’s not forget Atlantis, which archaeologists claim to have recently found.

If the bible was written by brainless stone age shepherds, then how and why did these fabulous monuments arise? Where did the peoples come from? Where did they go? I just knew there was more to the story.

There is a monument or temple of ancient origin on almost every continent. These ancient peoples were worshiping something. They had the technology and know-how to build massive monuments and places of worship that equal or even defy our understanding today. What would compel these people to construct such enormous structures, at great labor and cost? Is the urge to worship innate, I had wondered? Otherwise, how can it be explained that the urge to worship something greater than ourselves had arisen from such disparate cultures across such great distances and through epochs?

“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because that which is known about God is evident within them; for God made it evident to them. For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.” (Romans 1:18-20). It follows that, given the awareness of God universally evident in creation, no person can truly deny the existence of its Creator, even though they may try.

And this week the news articles published tell of yet another ancient worship site in Guatemala scientists have found. Holtun, or Head of Stone, in Guatemala was ‘discovered’ more fully by using advanced 3D holographic imaging, which stripped away centuries of jungle growth to reveal a “seven-story-tall pyramid, an astronomical observatory, a ritual ball court, several stone residences, and other structures.”

Lost Mayan city discovered in rainforest
“According to research presented earlier this month, three-dimensional mapping has “erased” centuries of jungle growth, revealing the rough contours of nearly a hundred buildings. It has long been known to locals that something big is buried in the area, but it is only now that archaeologists have been able to uncover the secrets. Using GPS and electronic distance-measurement technology last year, the researchers plotted the locations and elevations of a seven-story-tall pyramid, an astronomical observatory, a ritual ball court, several stone residences, and other structures. … Reese-Taylor, who called the new mapping study “incredibly significant”, said Head of Stone, which has never been excavated, “was not a New York or Los Angeles, but it was definitely a Denver or Atlanta”.

The city of about 2000 inhabitants flourished for about a thousand years, from roughly 950 BC to 900 AD, when it was abandoned.

I believe the original Pyramid was a godly effort and perhaps it is this to which the following Jeremiah verse points: “God has set signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, even unto this day, and in Israel, and among other men; and has made Himself a Name, as at this day”.(Jeremiah 32:20).  All of the 80 or so other pyramids came later, are horribly inferior copies.

I further believe that the urge to worship is innate but absent faith in Jesus as God, it’s easily perverted because of our sinful nature. The Nephilim took advantage of this urge and did pervert it, as shown in resulting worship practices such as infanticide, live sacrifices, bestiality, and worship of satanic rituals and idols. Their monuments, beginning with the Tower of Babel just after the Flood, continued to be built all over the world and it is likely their skill and knowledge that fomented the construction of such complex buildings.

There are so many mysteries about these ancient monuments and long-abandoned cities. I’m eager to learn more when we are raptured, glorified and are outside of time. Perhaps we will be able to view these events from our balcony seat in New Jerusalem. Perhaps we may learn why it was abandoned. Just as likely, my interest and curiosity may disappear like a vapor in the face of full glory of Jesus, and He may have many other things for us to learn instead of past history. But still, the mystique of a lost city found in the rainforest makes me wonder. What were they worshiping, and why? Didn’t someone stand up and say, “Not MY baby!?” Didn’t someone take the knowledge gained in constructing these magnificent structures and say, “I’m using this knowledge to the good!”

Sometimes I mourn because the bible says all the earth and its works will be burned up. (2 Peter 3:10) Not the Mona Lisa! Not the Taj Mahal! Not the lost city of Macchu Pichu! Then I realize, how silly. “However, as it is written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him”. (1 Corinthians 2:9). I can’t wait to see what is next that will be MORE beautiful than what God has already created for us. And the soon-to-be-discovered city of New Jerusalem tops the list.
