Encouragement: Preparing a place for us

There is such inexpressible and perpetual activity in the holy realms, it is breathtaking to think of. All heaven is working under command of our Holy God to ready for the Time. What time? The time when God says to Jesus, “Go get your bride!” And His deposit of our inheritance will be redeemed in full! (Ephesians 1:14; 2 Corinthians 1:22). All of time, history, prophecy, and Holy Sovereign Decree has been moving toward the time of fulfillment of the promises of Jesus to His Bride and the promises of God to His people the Jews. Everything.

If you have ever been involved in a project, you know the cycles you go through. There’s the initial excitement, the middle part slow slogging, then the hurry up, ‘oh my goodness the deadline is approaching!’ feeling. I lived on a sailboat for two years, and the few days before we launch is a hectic rush of never-ending activity to get all the provisions on board. The deadline to leave port is hard and fast, one which liveaboard cruisers and Navy personnel know the feeling well. If you ever have opened a restaurant, or built a house, or sold a house and had to move, gotten ready to graduate, gotten married…you know that the activity to prepare for the event by the deadline is never ending and increases the closer the deadline comes.

We do not know the day or hour the Father will tell His Son to go get His bride, but we can sense the deadline nearing. There is a massive amount of activity, some of it seen and some of it unseen.

But back to the bible’s pictures of activity. Didn’t Jesus say, “In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?” (John 14:2).

Things are being prepared, right now. Our lodging in New Jerusalem. Our feast. The temple perhaps. I don’t know, but He is preparing. He is engaged in activity to ready for the moment when a flood of redeemed souls enter glory to dwell with Him forever.

He is also preparing for the moment when His promises to his people the Jews come to fulfillment and the Kingdom Comes. Here is one specific glimpse of that preparation:

Jared Hollier drawing

A Vision of a Man with a Measuring Line
“And I lifted my eyes and saw, and behold, a man with a measuring line in his hand! Then I said, “Where are you going?” And he said to me, “To measure Jerusalem, to see what is its width and what is its length.” (Zechariah 2:1-2).

Zechariah had been awakened and was shown a series of 8 astounding visions all in one night. One of them is that God sent a surveyor (likely The Angel of the LORD, Jesus) to measure the place where the final Jerusalem will be, its exact size and placement! Rejoice O Jerusalem! “Rejoice with Jerusalem, and be glad for her, all you who love her; rejoice with her in joy, all you who mourn over her;” (Isaiah 66:10).

Right now Jerusalem is called Egypt and Sodom, (Revelation 11:8), but someday it will be cleansed, and it will become the holy city God intended it to be.

Look! He is so gracious, He showed Ezekiel also! “In the visions God brought me to the land of Israel, set me on a high mountain in which there was a structure like a city on the south. And he brought me there and behold there was a man whose appearance was like the appearance of bronze with a line of flax in his hand and a measuring reed and he stood in the gate.” (Ezekiel 40:2).

Measuring … preparing … So much activity:

Wm Blake, Jacob’s Ladder, from Wiki

“And he [Jacob] dreamed, and behold, there was a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven. And behold, the angels of God were ascending and descending on it!” (Genesis 28:12).

Going and coming … ascending and descending … Not just in the Old Testament but the activity continues in the New:

“He then added, “I tell you the truth, you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man.” (John 1:51).

The Sovereign God, His Perfect Son, and the Holy Angels are working to bring about the fulfillment of all the glorious promises of the bible. I know we know the judgment promises will come true. The world and the heavens will be UNcreated in a reverse orderly progression that mirrors the 6 days in the Creation. Mountains will crumble. Rivers will dry up. Sun will blink out. Stars will fall. People will die.

But to the positive, He is also readying His universe for the new heavens and the new earth, for the moment when the Father says, “Son, it is time for you to be married. GO GET YOUR BRIDE!”

Is there any doubt that the preparations will have been completed and the glowing glorious heavens will be inexpressibly beautiful? No, no doubt.

“And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:2-4)

Our Savior who Saves by grace, our Father, the architect of the earth and the universe, the author of our faith, the redeemer of souls, the Chief of all the Holy Hosts, is preparing…for us.

The danger of "Let’s not put God in a box" thinking

I’m tired of that old chestnut, “think outside the box,” aren’t you? Good ole Wikipedia defines thinking outside the box as “to think differently, unconventionally, or from a new perspective. This phrase often refers to novel or creative thinking. This is related to the process of lateral thought. The catchphrase, or cliché, has become widely used in business environments, especially by management consultants and executive coaches, and has spawned a number of advertising slogans. To think outside the box is to look further and to try not thinking of the obvious things, but to try thinking beyond them.”

Here is the proverbial box:

Here is the proverbial task: “The “nine dots” puzzle. The goal of the puzzle is to link all 9 dots using four straight lines or fewer, without lifting the pen and without tracing the same line more than once. One solution appears below.”

Here is one of the solutions:

Here is the solution described: “One of many solutions to the puzzle at the beginning of this article is to go beyond the boundaries to link all dots in 4 straight lines.”

See? The pencil drew lines outside of where the mind had applied a limit beyond the dot.

Jesus told the disciples to beware the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducee. (Matthew 16:16). Leaven is yeast, and it only needs a little bit to permeate through the whole loaf. Now, the Pharisees and Sadducees were polar opposites. The Pharisees were the traditionalists, legalists, and conservatives of the day. They were popular, and often were the famous men in town who ran things. The Sadducees were the liberals, free-thinkers, rationalists. They were not as popular but were still part of the Sanhedrin. Caiaphas was a Sadducee.

Pharisees applied extra traditions above the Law as delivered to Moses via God. These traditions strangled faith. The Sadducees were on the other end of the spectrum, questioning everything. They doubted the resurrection, angels, Spirit… They were asking questions all the time, and were never on firm, dogmatic ground. They seemed to be extra-intellectual but also appeared humble when asking their questions. All they were really doing was instilling doubt. They were the ones who asked Jesus who the woman with 7 husbands will be married to in heaven. (Matthew 22:23-30).

Why did Jesus say to beware the leaven of these two groups, if He knew that both groups would cease to exist within 70 years? Because these two groups are still around. Today, Rob Bell would be a Sadducee. Here is one example of a Sadducee questioning tactic: “Bell “articulates his ‘questions’ using rhetorical flourishes that seem purposefully designed to twist truths he knows to be communicated in scripture and that hold those truths up for public ridicule.” As in this example: “Will only a few select people make it to heaven and will billions of people burn forever in hell?” (source)

Yes. The bible clearly teaches that. Satan said to Eve, “Hath God said…?” (Genesis 3:1)

Any Prosperity Gospel teacher, like Jentezen Franklin for example, would be a Pharisee. You have to fast to get a blessing, you have to give seed money, you have to, you got to, do this, do that.

So all these centuries later, we must still heed the warning to beware the leaven of the Sadducees and Pharisees. Men’s hearts do not change and these false yeasts are still here too. Jesus said to beware and so we must. (Source for the above, JC Ryle ” Warnings to the Church“)

Now to the box. I agree that God is majestic. I know His thoughts are not my thoughts and His ways are not my ways. I know He is so much higher than I am. (Isaiah 55:8-9). I know He cannot be contained in a box and He is outside it. Sort of.

People say “Let’s not put God in a box.” I disagree with this, or, at least, in part. What they are really saying when they say that is “Let’s release God from the box so that I can have my own free-thinking ways.” While God is above the box, what He revealed to us for our own edification, teaching, and reproof in His word is IN the box!

God gave us the box and that is His word. Going outside it, as demonstrated in the dots puzzle, means going outside His authority.

I mentioned above that Sadducees appeared to be intellectual but humble because they posed their heresies in the form of a question. This tactic today is encapsulated in a false doctrine MacArthur calls “The Hermeneutics of Humility. This approach maintains that because God is SO high, we cannot with any certainty or clarity make any dogmatic statements about what He said in His word. Interpreting His word must be approached with a humble, seeking questioning attitude. Instead of “Thus saith the LORD,” the Sadducees claim, “Hath God said? Let’s have a conversation about it. My puny brain is too humble to say for sure. Making a certain claim would be too arrogant.”

MacArthur explains it this way: “A new movement is now arising in evangelical circles. Apparently, the main object of attack will be the perspicuity [clarity] of Scripture. Influenced by postmodern notions about language, meaning, subjectivity, and truth, many younger evangelicals are questioning whether the Word of God is clear enough to justify certainty or dogmatism on points of doctrine.”

The warning is: As long as I am not clear and don’t speak in any absolutes, then I am not under the authority of what it says. If we can’t interpret it fully then we can’t obey it fully.

Not that asking questions about scripture is bad. I ask questions all the time. ‘Ye must be salt and light’. I ask, OK, why salt? Why not pepper? What is it about salt that Jesus used that word He wanted to know and apply? How will this edify me? I don’t ask, “Did God really say salt? Is salt the only seasoning? Can I use pepper?”

You see one set of questions affirms scriptural truth while seeking to go deeper within its box, and the other set seeks to tear down the cardboard walls that exist to keep us within His authority to wander outside it.

Let’s change what Satan asked Eve. If he had approached it this way: “God said not to touch the fruit. So are you going to touch the fruit?” It would have been easy for Eve to say, “No.” The box’s walls are clear, and going outside would have been a deliberate disobedience.

So satan went about it this way “Hath God said?” This causes a person to examine and re-examine what was said and subtly at the same time undermines it by the very fact that it CAN be questioned.

When I was approaching the cross in advance of my salvation, I knew a person who used this approach. I am not talking of scriptural truth, because I wasn’t saved yet. But I was an investigative reporter and I had to question everything, but also in good conscience, at the same time I had to examine everything to sort wheat from chaff, before reporting on it. What is solidly true and what is not? This guy used to ask constant questions, always sending me off on rabbit trails, dead ends, and clouding my mind with extraneous information. Just as I arrived at a conclusion, he would ask another set of questions and I’d go off again. It was exhausting. In my journal I wrote, “I am tired of this guy making me doubt what I know.”

One thing I know is that Jesus is the only way to Heaven. He said so very clearly. “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” (John 14:6)

Yet in this Sadducee way of thinking of ‘Let’s take God out of the box’, we now have the Wider Mercy doctrine. This is a doctrine in which people may indeed go to heaven not having known Jesus nor having heard the Gospel. Because, you know, God is not in a box. He just might surprise us and apply salvation to some faithful in deepest Africa who are pretty sincere. He could do that, you know, goes the outside the box thinking.

God CAN do anything. God WILL not contradict His word. He made promises and one of them was to send His son to die for our sins. Therefore Jesus is the only way. If God went around Jesus, the universe would collapse, because it is through Him that all things hold together. (Col 1:17).

God is not in a box. But we are. Let’s stay there.

How will the antichrist try to change the times and the law?

Before I was saved by Jesus grace, I used to wonder about our calendar and timing system. I wondered, if Jesus was of no account as my father used to say, why the world which uses the Julian and Gregorian calendars marks time from the moment of His death. Our calendar is AD and BC, Anno Domini (After Death) and Before Christ. The AD technically is translated in Medieval Latin, ‘In the year of the Lord’ but we summarize that to ‘after death’ in common usage. The US Constitution is signed with the full expression, “Seventeenth Day of September in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Eighty seven”.

I like to think in word pictures. I think of the moment when He returns to earth and lands on the Mount of Olives as described in Zechariah 14:4: “On that day his feet shall stand on the Mount of Olives that lies before Jerusalem on the east, and the Mount of Olives shall be split in two from east to west by a very wide valley, so that one half of the Mount shall move northward, and the other half southward.”

Here is an aerial view of the Mount of Olives. To the left of the pin is a valley and then another mount, the Temple Mount complex. North is to the top.

The scripture says the rupture will come from east to west, and half the split will move north and the other half, south, making “a very wide valley”.

Some scholars believe that the valley is so wide and combined with the details in the Ezekiel verses depicting the geo-physical changes, that the temple will be pushed toward Shiloh. Shiloh is 27 miles due north of Jerusalem and was the location of the first tabernacle, for 400 years. Who knows…but the valley will be wide enough so that the river that runs from the temple will go to the Mediterranean Sea and the Dead Sea (which won’t be dead anymore, lol).

Source

But I digress. The mountain splits under His feet. It is like the BC-AD thing. He split history. We count history as before He came and after He died. He ruptured it, actually. It was surely the universe’s most seismic moment.

Knowing that Christ’s appearance on earth is such a singular event, of course the secular world wants to delete the BC-AD designation. So they came up with BCE, or Before the Common Era. Sure, the designation doesn’t mention Christ, but they still count time from moment zero of the epicenter of His appearing. They can’t delete THAT! LOL.

But they will continue to try. There is a prophecy in Daniel. It is just part of one sentence, but I think it is interesting. “He shall speak words against the Most High, and shall wear out the saints of the Most High, and shall think to change the times and the law; and they shall be given into his hand for a time, times, and half a time.” (Daniel 7:25).

Many scholars believe that the antichrist, who is the ‘he’ spoken of here, will try to change the calendar to reflect worship back on himself, instead of onto Christ. I believe this also. But I was listening to Steve Hadley last night and he proposed something that I think makes sense as well, and adds a layer of understanding to the situation. In his sermon “Preview to Revelation,” he preached on Zechariah 6. (July 1, 2012). Pastor Hadley mentioned that the antichrist will try to change times and dates and create a new calendar because he is moving the world toward a unified religion (one that will eventually point to himself). In wiping the calendar clean it also wipes out all the holy days. Christians mark Easter in April and Christmas in December, Jews have their calendar appointed holy days, etc. If a new calendar is instituted, all those memorializations will be changed, and as the antichrist will think, wiped from memory as they begin to worship him.

There is no erasing Jesus. His appearance was marked by shepherds, angels, and Kings; His death was marked by celestial signs and a large earthquake. The very calendar changed and we marked time from the moment of his death. His re-emergence will be marked with earthquakes. But the main earthquake that He represents is one that split the veil between this world and the next, rupturing time and space itself. Our calendar marks that rupture.

Nothing the secular people can do in juggling calendrical designations, and nothing the antichrist can do to think to change times and the law, will ever alter the fact that He is in control of time itself, and that His emergence into our world the first time and the second time are THE exceptional events in history.

Your new name!

Here is a prophecy to look forward to!

Believers, if you have been faithful and your persevering walk is evidence of that faith, you will be given a pass into eternal glory upon which the Lord of Hosts, the Ancient of Days, the Holy-Holy-Holy Lord has written upon it Himself, personally for just YOU!

“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, with a new name written on the stone that no one knows except the one who receives it.’’ (Revelation 2:17)

“But there’s an interesting little historical note, when a victor won in the games, whatever great games were being held, it was not uncommon for the victor to be given as part of his prize a white stone. And the white stone was his admission pass into the festival that was held following the games for all the victors. Could it be that the overcomer will receive the ticket to the eternal victory in heaven?”

Commentary on that verse:
“And then He says, “And a new name written on the stone,” and I read where they would do that. They would give the victor, like a trophy, a stone with his name and he alone could use it as his pass. “A new name written on the stone which no one knows, but he who receives it.” I can’t tell you how many people have asked me…what is that name? A lady will come to me any time I preach on the book of Revelation and say, “What is the name that no man knows?” Folks, I don’t know what the name is. If I knew what the name was then this verse couldn’t say what it says, it would have to say, “And no one knows except John MacArthur.” The only one who knows what it says is the person who receives it, that’s how personal it is. What it is to me is some kind of personal message from Christ to the one He loves which is given as an admission pass into eternal glory. I’ll know mine and you’ll know yours and we’ll know the Lord wrote them for each of us and for none of the others of us.” (source)

WOOP! It is huge to think of the precious Savior not only saving me, not only guiding and protecting me, not only providing for me, but when He brings me to glory (amazing!) He gives me a personal message just for me, out of the millions thronging there!

Friend, if you have ever been picked last, if you have ever had unwanted divorce thrust upon you, if you have ever been fired from a job, marginalized at home, or left in any feeling invisible and unwanted, THIS should pick you up. A secret message/name is waiting for you, just for you, with the Savior’s love and care personally imprinting it and gracefully extending it to you in heaven. What a day that will be!!!!!!!

Ancient and startling petroglyphs found: perhaps of Nephilim?

There is a biblical subject I can safely say fascinates many Christians: the Nephilim.

The interpretation of Genesis 6:1-8 has in recent times been a controversy, but did you know that until the 4th century that it was uniformly – and correctly – interpreted with no controversy? The Septuagint actually translates ‘sons of God’ as angels, because that is who they are. Here is the text. It says what it says:

“When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. Then the LORD said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown. The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the LORD was sorry that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart. So the LORD said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.” But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD.”

The bible records after the Fall of man in Genesis 3 that there were sons of God who mated with daughters of man and spawned a race of giants. They were called the Nephilim. Many have ascribed the resulting hybrid race as the Nephilim but the word nephal means to fall, and I believe the Nephilim are actually the fallen angels who did the mating. The fallen angels/Nephilim who did the deed are in chains in the gloomiest dungeon now, as punishment for corrupting man, and as a warning to others who might try the same thing again. (Jude 1:6)

The topic has gotten an unsavory tinge to it not only due to the unwarranted controversy because of the incorrect interpretation, but because I would think also the sexual mating.

Let’s look at the verse. The angels mated with woman, and in the next verse God declared His Spirit would not strive with man forever. Then the verse says that they were the mighty men of renown, and the LORD declares the earth was evil, He was sorry He had made man, and He will wipe out man (except Noah.)

If the evil of man and the cataclysmic judgment of same was inextricably tied to the Nephilim, don’t you think it behooves us to study it?? Especially since Jesus said that the days before the next cataclysmic judgment would be like the Days of Noah??? (Matthew 24:37). Avoiding this topic makes no sense.

When I read archaeological sites and they present petroglyphs of ancient alien-like beings, I personally believe they are depicting the Nephilim who were on earth on those days. Nephilim are aliens: off-planet dwellers visiting earth, bringing with them their superior knowledge and powers, and shining with a bright light. After all, how did the Pyramids get built? What are the Nazca Lines? Why were there such advanced civilizations at places like Peru’s Machu Picchu or the US Southwest’s Anasazi, which mysteriously died out just as quickly as they appeared? When the Nephilim were on earth on those days, I am sure that they were plenty busy, and not just with women. They didn’t come here just to mate, but to thwart God’s plan. Remember, satan’s goal is to be like the Most High, to be worshiped. Satan has a plan, too. (Isaiah 14:13-15). The Nephilim were busy interacting with man in a way that would corrupt civilization in every arena, including spiritual as well as emotional, agricultural, geo-physical, sexual, societal… And by the verse in Genesis 6:5, they were successful.

There are ancient petroglyphs showing strange looking ‘alien-like’ beings. Often they are depicted with glowing heads or as shining beings. Also they are often depicted as being very large in size. Here’s one:

This one is also from Australia, where
the new petroglyphs were discovered

Today some ancient rock art was discovered that not only depict otherworldly type beings, but they are drawn in the act of having sex. The news articles (lol, the UK Daily Mail tabloid would be the first to pick up on it…) are snickeringly calling it “ancient porn.” The intricate paintings depict strange looking and rather large men having relations with women. Here is the news article link:

Aboriginal erotic rock art proves that – even 28,000 years ago – men had ONE thing on their minds

The area is only accessible by a 90-minute helicopter ride into the Australian interior. I thought that was probably the most interesting fact in the whole article. Though the article reports the archaeologists as dating the rock art to 28,000 years ago, Christians know that cannot be true. However it does indicate the ancient age of the art, raising the likelihood of it having been drawn at the time the Nephilim were on the earth.

Now, a caution. While I said up above that it behooves us to study the Nephilim, I meant from the bible. There are a host of weird and flaky websites that have wild theories and many frankly are spam sites. We study man’s fallen condition from his progression from his creation in Genesis 1, to his fall in Genesis 3, to the depths of corruption in Genesis 6. Chasing after ancient aliens diverts us from studying the Most High God.

Another note: The Daily Mail is known for its large photos with lots of short captions in between. If you click on the headline above from the Daily Mail, be aware that there is a large photo showing the large men in the petroglyphs and they all sport something else that is extremely large, too.

Here are a couple of links to essays that deal with the Genesis 6 text in expositional fashion. The information is from solid sources. Do go there and read them, if you have any questions about the interpretation of the Nephilim passages.

UPDATED 2X–Rumors: Russia to escort Assad out of Syria?

UPDATE #2
IDF: Iran Realizing Assad is Finished
DF Spokesperson Brigadier General Yoav (Poly) Mordechai said Friday that Syria’s allies Iran and Hizbullah are coming to realize that Bashar Assad’s regime has “reached its end.”“Another week is almost over, during which the desperate effort by Iran and Hizbullah to help the Assad regime survive was evident,

UPDATE #1
A story below mentioned that the US had enlisted UK’s aid in stopping the alleged shipment by Russia of helicopters to war-torn Syria. Today the UK Telegraph reports “A Russian ship believed to be carrying helicopters and missiles for Syria has been effectively stopped in its tracks off the coast of Scotland after its insurance was cancelled at the behest of the British government.’ More here
——————–
During the fog of war there is by definition a clash of truth and rumor. It becomes very hard to know what is true and what’s a feint. What is propaganda and what is accurate. With that in mind I bring you some news of the events in the fast-unfolding arena of imminent prophecy fulfillment: Syria, Israel, Egypt.

Syria, which Isaiah 17 prophesies its capital city of Damascus and environs will be totally destroyed, has been in the news since winter of 2011. The citizens rose up against its dictator, much like the citizens in Tunisia, Egypt, Bahrain, Algeria, Libya etc did. Except the Syrian uprising is still going on. The feeling of imminent fulfillment deepened last week when Secretary of State Hillary Clinton reported that Russia was planning to deliver attack helicopters to Syria’s leader, Bashar al-Assad. The two nations have been allies for 40 years, and Syria is Russia’s biggest customer for war weapons.

Egypt has also been in the news, with the uprising, capture of dictator Mubarek, and Muslim Brotherhood ascension to power, and now their elections. Isaiah 19 is an unfulfilled prophecy regarding Egypt in the last days.

It is also no coincidence that Russia began expanding Syria’s port of Tartus last year so that it can host Russian warships. Tartus is the only port on the Mediterranean that Russia has access to. For Russia, having an ally and thus a presence in Syria is critical. Russia is in prophecy in Ezekiel 38-39 as a participant in the Gog-Magog war.

That was the background. Several news stories caught my eye this morning.

EGYPT-ISRAEL

Amid presidential elections, al-Qaida leader urges Egypt to cancel treaty with Israel
“Al-Qaida’s leader has urged Egypt to cancel its peace treaty with Israel and to establish Islamic rule, according to an audio message released Sunday. He said the goal was to stop Israel from turning Jerusalem into a Jewish city.”

IDF moves tanks closer to Egypt
“The IDF has deployed Armored forces near the Israel-Egypt border, moving tanks closer to the fence, Ynet has learned. The unusual move followed Monday’s terror attack on defense contractor crews building the new security fence”

RUSSIA-SYRIA

US enlists Britain’s help to stop ship ‘carrying Russian attack helicopters’ to Syria
“The US government has enlisted Britain’s help in a bid to stop a ship suspected of carrying Russian attack helicopters and missiles to conflict-riven Syria, The Sunday Telegraph can reveal.”

Stop the presses! Forget the helicopters, that was so yesterday. Today Russia just upped the ante from helicopters, to warships and troops.

Russia to send ships and marines to Syria
“Two Russian navy ships are completing preparations to sail to Syria with a unit of marines on a mission to protect Russian citizens and the nation’s base there, a news report said Monday. The deployment appears to reflect Moscow’s growing concern about Syrian President Bashar Assad’s future.”

Ahhh, now here comes the rumor:

Russian Commandos ‘to Escort Assad Out of Syria’
“Ships carrying Russian commandos may soon sail to Syria to escort strongman Bashar Assad to safety from the country where a rebellion against him is growing fiercer.Reports to this effect were cited by Voice of Israel radio’s veteran “listener” Miki Gurdus, who specializes in listening to radio broadcasts on various frequencies worldwide.”

Of course Israel is in prophecy, everywhere. Most applicable today is the prophecy in Zechariah 12:1-2.

“The burden of the word of the LORD concerning Israel: Thus declares the LORD, who stretched out the heavens and founded the earth and formed the spirit of man within him: 2“Behold, I am about to make Jerusalem a cup of staggering to all the surrounding peoples.”

While Isaiah 19 foretells a time of strife and wrath from the Lord upon Egypt, it is hopeful to know that God has a glorious future in store for Egypt (and Assyria and Israel as well!!) Egypt turns to the Lord! Assyria is blessed! (What IS Assyria? Here is a map)

Isaiah 19 ends with the following promise that will be fulfilled in the Millennium:

“In that day there will be an altar to the LORD in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar to the LORD at its border. It will be a sign and a witness to the LORD of hosts in the land of Egypt. When they cry to the LORD because of oppressors, he will send them a savior and defender, and deliver them. And the LORD will make himself known to the Egyptians, and the Egyptians will know the LORD in that day and worship with sacrifice and offering, and they will make vows to the LORD and perform them.

“And the LORD will strike Egypt, striking and healing, and they will return to the LORD, and he will listen to their pleas for mercy and heal them. In that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria, and Assyria will come into Egypt, and Egypt into Assyria, and the Egyptians will worship with the Assyrians. In that day Israel will be the third with Egypt and Assyria, a blessing in the midst of the earth, whom the LORD of hosts has blessed, saying, “Blessed be Egypt my people, and Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel my inheritance.”’ (Is 19:19-25)

The LORD is good!

It is my opinion that with events moving into place so quickly and the probable fulfillment of these prophecies coming into view, nay, landing on our laps, that the rapture is even closer. The rapture is an event that has no sign, and could happen at any moment. It is dependent upon Jesus taking the full number of believers that he has set aside, (Romans 11:25) and we don’t know what that number is or how close we are to it. That is why the rapture has always been imminent, meaning, could occur at any time. It is not dependent upon one certain thing occurring before it could take place.

In listening to Pastor JD Farag’s weekly prophecy update last night, he said he is changing his message from “get ready” to “BE ready.” He said it is too late to get ready. Make preparations now for being snatched up to the Lord. No more waiting, no more dithering, no more researching, no more wondering. This is it. The rapture seems so close, he said, in his opinion, it is closer than any of us can imagine.

I agree.

He referenced the rapidly moving events that coincide with what the Lord said to look for and what the Lord promised would happen. Things are moving at a day-by-day clip now, with each dawn unfolding new developments that seem to be ripped out of the pages of the bible. Now is the time to know the Lord through repentance of your sins and acceptance of Him as Savior and Lord.

WHAT MUST I DO TO BE SAVED??

“Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.” (Romans 10:9-10)

Believe upon the Gospel. WHAT IS THE GOSPEL?

The basic ingredients of the gospel message are the death, burial, resurrection, and appearances of the resurrected Christ. “Now I want to make clear for you, brothers and sisters, the gospel that I preached to you, that you received and on which you stand, and by which you are being saved, if you hold firmly to the message I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I passed on to you as of first importance what I also received—that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures, and that he was buried, and that he was raised on the third day according to the scriptures, and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve… (1Corinthians 15:1-5)

He was buried, so His death became an established fact. He was resurrected which witnesses verified, therefore His claims of being God were verified. He is who He says He is: God in the flesh, come to seek and save the lost in their sins by becoming the sacrifice upon which God poured out all His wrath for sin, so we would not have to bear it. He took the penalty for it. However, His though His death and resurrection provided the way, it is the ONLY way to heaven and thus of escaping God’s wrath. Any other way is not the pardon, it is the death sentence.

Do we have to work our way into heaven? Even if we accept Jesus?

No. His grace is sufficient. “For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.” (Romans 6:14)

“Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.” (John 6:29)

Repent and believe! The end is nigh.

Huge swarm of grasshoppers invades rural California town

I shouldn’t look at my stats. I get depressed doing that. I mean, I’m blessed to have a few thousand per day visit the site. Since it began three and a half years ago, 1.4 million people have stopped in for one reason or another. I’m thrilled for that.

They come for all different reasons. Some come from Googling key words and landing here, some come from a bookmark, and some have wandered over from my other blog. But mostly, looking at the stats for each post, I see a trend that makes me sad.

I put prayer and thought into each post, but the doctrinal posts, the ones about the bible directly either through interpretation of a passage or using a passage to share encouragement, get some good amount of hits.

But is has always been the weird posts that get the most hits. Weird, and weather. And when we have weird weather together it busts the hit counter. I’d like to continue to delude myself that people come here for the Jesus stuff, but it is not so, the stats tell me. Well, I lure you in with the freak weather posts and then talk about Jesus in every post anyway, bwahaha.

Today the post with the most is “Tornado Sweeps Across Venice Italy.” It is really sending out the siren call to people from near and far. This week’s top view-getter is “Transgendered Chastity Bono and Dancing with the Stars, for some reason. The piece was news 9 months ago. Oh, well, praise the Lord that they come for any reason.

The Ghost horse of Cairo Egypt’s Tahrir Square is still reeling in the hits as all time heavy hitter.

Weather especially will claim the internet surfer’s attention. The freak hail in CO I wrote about earlier in the week is clipping along in the hits department. The post “Indian villagers attacked by swarms of suddenly appearing spiders” is holding its own, too.

Here is another one that will be sure to attract a lot of views:

Huge swarm of grasshoppers invades rural California town
“A massive swarm of grasshoppers has invaded a rural town in Sacramento County, eating foliage, hopping around and creating a nuisance. … Entomologist Steve Heydon said these types of swarms are rare. The working theory: This winter was dry and warm, so there’s less vegetation around for the bugs to eat. But the winter before saw a lot more precipitation than usual, so with plenty of food there were a lot of extra little bugs born.”

This story describes the grasshopper infestation in a way that made me think of the plague of frogs in Exodus:

“The Nile shall swarm with frogs that shall come up into your house and into your bedroom and on your bed and into the houses of your servants and your people, and into your ovens and your kneading bowls. The frogs shall come up on you and on your people and on all your servants.” (Ex 8:3-4)

“They’re everywhere,” said Debbie. It’s an insect infestation. “We’re being invaded,” said Brian Campbell. Grasshoppers are taking over the Campbell family farm. They saw some a few days ago. “But, then it went to the extreme,” said Debbie. They’re covering the house, the ground and everywhere you look.”

I think it’s funny that the news story which features a video of the grasshoppers shows a portion where the camera guy is filming the field of grasshoppers and they are crawling over his lens. Look, see it on the screen as the newscasters are introducing the spot?

We have been having a spike in snake bites here in the rural South this summer. Officials say that we’ve seen more snakes for the same reason as those entomologists in CA say they are seeing more grasshoppers, the overly dry and warm winter was the culprit.

In Libya right now, locusts are out of control and that is blamed on Muammar Gaddafi. Even though he is dead, the uprising that toppled him from his throne, and from life, caused locust-watchers to be unable to scour the countryside to apply the necessary pesticide to control them. As a result, locusts, like the population that rose up and killed their so-called King of Kings, are out of control in Libya. And now those swarms are threatening Mali and Niger.

I’m only half-kidding about the depressing stats. I personally wish I received a thousand hits on the “We take refuge in a Mighty God” post and less on the “Freak hail on CO” posts, instead of the opposite. But I know the Spirit sends just the right people here and for His own reasons. Those who come to read about extra-large hail may stay to read the plan of salvation. Those who want to know about the Ghost Horse of Tarhir Square may read the left behind letters. And after the rapture, all this information will still be available to anyone wanting to know how to be saved. I’m grateful for the million and a half souls who for whatever reason drew them here, saw the name of Jesus on the page. His name is the most precious seed which the Holy Spirit waters with truth. God is growing a wonderful garden of redeemed souls who will shine with His glory on the Day. Praise His name and all His works – doctrinal, freaky, and everything in between.

The Christian remnant

We love God because, “God does not do many things that he can, but he does all things that he will.” (George Swinnock).

One of the things He can do is wipe out humanity. He was grieved with us in Genesis before the flood. But He did not erase us from the earth. He CAN do it. He did not. He preserved a remnant, Noah and his family. He always preserved a remnant of His people the Jews.

There was a remnant returning from the Babylonian captivity. A remnant of 7000 was preserved when Elijah killed the false prophets of Baal when he thought he was the only one left.

It is promised, “A remnant will return, the remnant of Jacob, to the mighty God.” (Isaiah 10:21). Paul reiterated that in Romans 9:27, “Isaiah cries concerning Israel, “If the number of the children of Israel are as the sand of the sea, it is the remnant who will be saved;”

The Jews were set aside for a time so the Lord could build His church out of the Gentiles. He will return to fulfill the promises to the Jews at the culmination of the Tribulation and save the remnant who had been hiding at Petra throughout the remainder of the Tribulation and establish His promised Kingdom for 1000 years. We praise the LORD for His promises to always preserve and protect a Jewish remnant.

But I want to bring another thought to your mind. Christians are a remnant too. We know the multitudes which are His bride will be singing praises to Him after the rapture. We read passages like this “And I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying, “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honor and glory and might forever and ever!” (Rev 5:13) and think, ‘Wow!’ Lots of Christians!’ But it is not so.

We are a remnant too. Romans 11:5:

“So too at the present time there is a remnant, chosen by grace.”

The odds are not good for making it in Christianity. We know that the road is narrow and FEW FIND IT. (Mt 7:14). The road to destruction is broad and MANY FOLLOW IT. (Mt 7:13). We know that Jesus said, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’”

Are you getting the picture? Many/Few. It is a theme. How many righteous did Abraham ask the LORD to find in Sodom? “He answered, “For the sake of ten, I will not destroy it.” (Gen 18:32b). But it ended up there were less than ten. So four cities were destroyed that day: Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, Zeboiim. And of the four that were found to be righteous, Lot, Mrs Lot, and the two daughters, one of the four was revealed to be a false righteous and was turned into a pillar of salt.

On Judgment Day, books will be opened, and a book will be opened. “And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done.” (Rev 20:12).

The books – plural – is the book of the dead. The book that was opened, singular, is the book of life. Many /Few. All the names of the living will fit into one book.

Christians are a remnant. There seems to be a lot of us but we can’t see the wheat from the chaff. The enemy has sown seeds that grew, too. St. Augustine said, “O you Christians, whose lives are good, you sigh and groan as being few among many, few among very many.”

Félicien Rops, Satan Sowing Seeds, pencil, c. 1872.

My reason for bringing this up is that my heart and life’s blood beats in yearning that every person who believes himself to be a Christian examine him or herself to see if you are in the faith!

“Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!” (2 Cor 13:5)

Here is an essay that helps you test yourself and see if you bear the distinguishing marks of being a Christian.

Examine Yourself

Of those that fail to meet the test, there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. “The Son of Man will send his angels, and they will gather out of his kingdom all causes of sin and all law-breakers, and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Then the righteous will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their Father. He who has ears, let him hear.” (Mt 13:41-43)

I want to sing with you in heaven, and I do not want to see you thrown into outer darkness, weeping and gnashing your teeth, screaming, LORD, LORD did I not do many mighty works in your name? And He will say to you, I never knew you, depart from me you evildoers!

Are you in the remnant??? Praise Jesus if you are. Let His light of glory shine in you and through you. Let us give it all back to Him in thanks for salvation which He delivers through grace plus nothing. No works of ours, mighty or mild, will earn us heaven. But believe on the Son whom the Father sent, and ye shall be saved.

Tribulation overview

The verse below is meant to be (mostly) fulfilled in the Tribulation. The Tribulation is prophesied to be a period where many things will happen. One of them is that the earth and heavens themselves will be wildly disrupted and disfigured. Landforms disappear. Weather patterns evaporate. Celestial orbits cease. Plagues kill. And more.

The outline of what Jesus will be doing at that time is presented to us in Daniel 9:24. The Lord will do 6 things:

“Seventy weeks are determined For your people and for your holy city,

1. To finish the transgression,
2. To make an end of sins,
3. To make reconciliation for iniquity,
4. To bring in everlasting righteousness,
5. To seal up vision and prophecy,
6. And to anoint the Most Holy.”

Notice several things. First, it is a period where though the times seem chaotic, it is actually orderly. It is all in control of God. The three series of 7-judgments apiece (Seals, Trumpets, Bowls; perhaps four sets if you consider the Seven Thunders of Rev. 10:3-4) will be delivered in orderly fashion. The judgments unleash chaos, but their deliverance is orderly and controlled.

Another orderly aspect of the entire age, not just the Tribulation, is that He said it will take 70 weeks (70 bundles of 7 years, called shavua in Hebrew). This adds up to 490 years total for Him to perform the 6 things. The Tribulation is the time for it all to come crashing to a conclusion and so it is a time of demonstrable wrath and the culmination of the 6 things. In further orderliness, He stopped the clock at 483 years. Nowhere was it promised to be 490 consecutive years! But they should have known that, because the interruption was stated. In Daniel 9:25-26, a mere verse later, the angel told Daniel that after seven sevens and 62 sevens, “Messiah will be cut off (vernacular for died) and the people of the prince who is to come (antichrist) shall destroy the city.”

Jesus’s entry into Jerusalem was 483 years to the day and then the clock stopped. Then Jesus took 2000 years to build His church, and when it reaches His quota, (Romans 11:25) He will snatch us away from this earth, and He will finish that last 7 years of the prophesied 70 weeks and accomplish the promised 6 things. (More here)

The angel also explained to Daniel that it is a time when God directs His attention to “your people” and “your holy city (Jerusalem). That does not mean He isn’t paying attention to non-believers or non-Jews during the Tribulation, or that nothing will happen to them during the Tribulation. Not at all. Jeremiah 30:7 calls it the Time of Jacob’s Trouble, though, and its point is for the LORD to finish His promises to His people. #1 is to finish the transgression which is to allow sin its full course unhindered (unresisted) by the Spirit- because they have rejected the Spirit. In other words, they will get what they asked for.

#2 says He will make an end to sins. This making an end to sins is an event that will affect everyone on the planet. God always sees the world through the lens of His people the Jews and through the central location of the Holy City. But all the world will be affected.

Note the progression of the 6 things. At the beginning, He allows the transgression to have its full expression. By the end, the Most Holy is anointed. The Most Holy is Jesus. Ahhh, what a day that will be! The Tribulation is the cap-stone to the final age of man where He allows the total outcome of rejection of the Holy Spirit to have its course. His Spirit does not strive with man forever, you know. (Gen 6:3a; 2Thessalonians 2:6-7). Like in Noah’s day, where all of man’s thoughts were only evil continually, (Gen 6:5) so it shall be again at the end of days (Matthew 24:37).

The Daniel 9:26 verse also promises that the end will come like a flood. This does not mean that there will be a flood of actual waters as in the first global judgment. As part of the cataclysmic geo-physical upheavals during the Tribulation there will be floods and tides and hurricanes and tsunamis, but He promised Noah that he would never drown the world again as a judgment. (Gen 9:13). Rather, the verse uses figurative language. The Hebrew word in Dan 9:26 is “sheteph; from shataph; a deluge (literally or figuratively) — flood, outrageous, overflowing.” He means that SIN will have its outrageous overflowing. Remember, the antichrist who overpowers the world is called The Man of Sin. (Rev 13:7; 2 Thess 2:3).

This flood language mirrors the language in Revelation 12:15. Midway through the Tribulation, the antichrist tears up the peace treaty he had confirmed with the Jews at the beginning of the Tribulation. He then persecutes them with all unholiness and evil. He goes after the Jews with an evil vengeance that makes the WWII Holocaust look like a picnic. “And the serpent poured water like a river out of his mouth after the woman, so that he might cause her to be swept away with the flood.” Satan pours out his evil and sin flows over the world like a flood.

Floods have waters that rise, and rise and rise, eventually washing away all that is in its path. Even tsunamis which travel at jet speeds have waters that flow and rise accordingly. The end began when Jesus ascended, but it has been 2000 years and we can see that the flood waters of sin are not lapping at our toes…are not sweeping against our waists…but the flood waters of sin seem like they are actually crashing over our heads by this point in time. It seems the flood of sin in the world since the beginning is rising and rising, and now even crashing over our heads. It is like the famous photo of the lighthouse and its keeper:

But we are not destined for wrath! (1 Thessalonians 5:9). Though sin tries to engulf us, it will not prevail against His church! (Matthew 16:18). That is one reason we will not be here during the Tribulation, Jesus said that the gates of hell will never prevail against His church. (Mt 16:18). Notice where the keeper is: INSIDE the Lighthouse. Would you want to be anywhere else when the wages of sin try to engulf you? No. You would not survive that wave. You would not survive the hidden reefs under the wave. (Jude 1:12). Being in the Lighthouse is the only safe place to be, in ages past and in this present age.

Jude says, the apostates are “Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.” (Jude 1:12).

Peter says, “These men are springs without water and mists driven by a storm. Blackest darkness is reserved for them.” (2 Peter 2:17).

Isaiah says, “But the wicked are like the tossing sea, which cannot rest, whose waves cast up mire and mud.” (Isaiah 57:20).

What of us, individually? His word says that Hades will not prevail against His church, but what of each of us in the daily struggle against sin? Some days it truly feels like it will engulf me. Here is the remedy: “The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?” (Psalm 27:1).

We are Light keepers, and our job is never more important than during the storm! We are in Christ as THE Light, but we keep His word hidden in our hearts. We are ambassadors of His glory and His truths. We keep His commands. We keep His flame alive on earth by staying in Him and close to Him. It is important to be brighter during the storm and so let us be bright, by being full of peace and joy in these stormy times. Let the waves crash! We have the eternal Strength of the Light. Let others see, and come to Him.

RFK Jr’s wife hanged herself- Suicides in general are increasing

There is very sad news. Mary Kennedy, mother of four and estranged wife of Robert Kennedy Jr, was discovered hanged in an out-building on her property. She had taken her own life. The NY Post has a story here, headline RFK Jr.’s wife hangs herself.

At church last night, it was noted that there had been a suicide in a neighboring county, a mother had killed herself. We shared that it seemed that there had been a run of suicides of late. Suicide is unusual around here.

Then when I got home from church, I had received an email from an online buddy who wrote to let me know of a spate of teen suicides by hanging in the UK. There had been 13 suspected suicides in that town in the last year, and 79 since 2007, all by hanging. There were two hangings just this week. This is truly terrible news. It is always crushing to think of anyone, but especially youths, who are so despondent that they feel their only option is to end their life. Apparently People Magazine did a story on the incidents in this town on May 14, 2012 called “A Tragedy in Wales: A Small Town Mystery.”

I don’t feel it is a coincidence that suicide is rising so quickly at this time. I decided to do some further research. I discovered in an article written a month ago that suicides of Canadian youths between ages 10 and 19 are rising. PRE-teens! Babes! Like this boy in India.

I read in another recent article from a month ago that Asian suicides are skyrocketing, too. “Korea’s suicide rate has skyrocketed since the Asian economic crisis and is now 2.3 times higher than the rate of death from traffic accidents. In the 1990s, about 7.3 people for every 100,000 committed suicide, but that has soared especially among women, the elderly, highly educated people, professionals, and divorcees.”

I read in an article that Army “suicides among U.S. soldiers rose 80 percent from 2004 to 2008, an Army study found.” In a February 2012 article in Medical News today I read this headline about the population in general: Suicide Rates Highest In 15 Years, US.

People, suicides are up. Hanging has a 70% mortality rate and is the preferred method.

Let’s take a biblical and a cultural look at suicide by hanging. In the bible, Judas hanged himself. “Then Judas, His betrayer, seeing that He had been condemned, was remorseful and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.” And they said, “What is that to us? You see to it!” Then he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple and departed, and went and hanged himself.” (Matthew 27:3-5)

In the book Comprehensive Textbook of Suicidology, author Ronald W. Maris et al, we read “Judas’s suicide was final proof that he completely rejected God’s grace, whereas the robber that was crucified next to Jesus was redeemed and entered Paradise together with the Savior. God’s mercy is endless to those who are willing to accept it but those who reject it, commit the terrible sin of Desperatio. Hanging was therefore regarded as the most abominable way out, because this type of death left one unable to call out for mercy, because one was choked and unable to express a last-minute repentance.”

Desperatio is a Middle Ages term explained this way (this is a definition that explains their thinking a thousand years ago, not a doctrine I am promoting): “Desperatio (doubt) is a sin against the Holy Spirit. When a sinner recognizes his burden of sin, but it does not draw the right conclusion to repentance, confession and penance, but in despair at the magnitude of his sins, it is called desperatio. The sinner can be saved in spite of his great sins, if he would take the prescribed path of repentance. It remains closed to him so, however, as he thinks, could there be for their sin no more forgiveness. He doubts the grace of God. A prime example of Judas desperatio could be considered: When he realizes what a great sin to be a betrayal of Jesus was, and he hanged himself in despair. If he had done penance instead, he could have been saved.”

Here is a rendition of hanging by the early Middle Ages artist Giotto

Giotto: Desperatio, ca. 1305-1306, “Desperation” or “Despair”.

Note the demon whispering in her ear. Though suicide is recorded in the bible, suicide is never of God. Here is a link to a Bible study asking the question, “Is suicide a sin?” The author begins it this way:

“The Bible records 3 well-known incidents of suicide – King Saul in the Old Testament (some also regard Samson’s death as a suicide, however he was actually a prisoner of war who died in the process of killing 3,000 pagan Philistines), Judas Iscariot in the New Testament, and another that we will get to in a moment. Although the circumstances of Saul and Judas were different, they did have something very much in common. Saul was under the influence of an evil spirit (1 Samuel 16:14), and Judas had been directly entered by Satan (John 13:27). And what is the third incident? When Jesus Christ healed a man of demon possession at Gerasenes, He had the demons go out from the man and into a large herd pigs that were grazing nearby (Mark 5:1-12). And what did the pigs do after the demons had entered them? They ran down the bank, into the lake, and drowned themselves (Mark 5:13). With the demons in them, the pigs committed suicide. This is not in any way to suggest that all suicide is demon inspired – it most certainly isn’t. But some clearly are, and of all the rest, Satan and his demons are pleased to see it happen.”

Self mutilation/cutting are also demon inspired. “In the New Testament, cutting oneself was associated with someone who was possessed by demons (Mark 5:2-5). It was characteristic of behavior caused by evil spirits. Today, self-mutilation is rarely used for ritualistic practices or actual demon possession, but instead usually by teen-agers and young adults who have misplaced anger and pain that they are attempting to work out in destructive ways.” (source)

Here are some common suicide risk indicators. If you or a loved one are demonstrating even two of these, please seek help immediately:

Common Suicide Risk Indicators
–A previous suicide attempt, even if it seemed staged or designed to get attention, or boasts of past or secret suicide attempts.
–Talking about being dead or wishing they were dead, how others would be happier if he/she were dead or how much better off others will be when he/she is gone.
–Repeatedly engaging in very risky or dangerous thrill seeking behavior.
–“Getting the house in order” – making plans for the care of loved siblings, parents, relatives or pets and giving away cherished belongings to close friends.
–Extreme mood swings; very depressed episodes followed by happy episodes with no clear reason for the change. –Regular expressions of worthlessness, helplessness, sadness and/or loneliness.
–Drastic changes in habits, friends, or appearance, ie; new friends, skipping school, dropping out of favorite activities, and no longer caring about appearance or cleanliness.
–Changes in weight, sleeping habits, and physical activity. Withdrawing from friends, family, or activities that once gave the person pleasure or a sense of identity.

Here is a link to a checklist of suicide risk behaviors from Air Force Medicine, and on the list is cutting. Please check either link or other good links on the internet if you or a loved one is despondent and talking of ending it all.Precious brethren, suicide is so heartbreaking, and solves nothing. It throws away the precious life that Jesus gave you and it satisfies satan to be successful in pressuring a Christian from the world. It satisfies him even further to send an unsaved person to hell. Jesus loves you with a white hot fervency, he seeks and saves and brings us to His bosom! Nothing is worse than plunging into the gulf that separates us from Him by our own hand, or ending what could be a fulfilling life in Christ by our own hand.

The End Times are here. With apostasy rising and Christianity’s believers moving away from Jesus, and with unbelievers moving further away from offered grace, satan is still and always seeking whom he may devour. (1 Peter 5:8). Let us all be alert for weakening brethren. Though we can never tell with certainty what is going on in another person’s mind, if you see or hear them demonstrate any of the indicators, you will know that the prayer battle is on. Fight for each other! Pray to the Spirit for help. Jesus heals, completely!

“The LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor…to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve…to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.” (Isaiah 61:1-3).

It seems all too often the spirit if despair is upon us, but the garment of praise is ours to be had, along with the victory- thanks eternally to His sacrifice and His grace.
