Bullet points on why Joyce Meyer is a false teacher

By Elizabeth Prata

Joyce Meyer is a very popular female Bible teacher and preacher. She has been on the scene for decades, and shows no signs of slowing down. She has 10 offices around the world and employs 500 people. Her brand of charismatic/name-it claim it religion has deceived many. This is sad, but the Bible says that many will be deceived by false teachers. I pray that anything here will spark a further Berean investigation by the reader and through prayer, come to the other side of discernment in understanding why Meyer should be avoided.

  1. Joyce Meyer preached that Jesus was a sinner, had been born again, stopped being the Son of God, paid for our sins in hell (from 1991 Booklet called The Most Important Decision you Will Ever Make), and was tormented there. Meyer preaches a different Jesus. She is a heretic.
  2. Joyce Meyer preaches to men and mixed gender audiences in violation of 1 Timothy 2:12.
  3. Joyce Meyer operated as an associate pastor in a church in violation of 1 Timothy 2:12.
  4. Joyce Meyer preaches that it is normal and expected to hear directly from God, when contrary to her claim, the scriptures claim they are sufficient (2 Timothy 3:14-17), and the Word is closed. (Revelation 22:18-19). Yet she teaches that God speaks individually to people today. Example, in essay “It’s not that complicated” she wrote -“Do you ever wonder if God speaks to people? You’ll be happy to know the answer is yes. But first let me explain how distractions can hinder His voice” and taught more from her book How to Hear from God or in this video.
  5. Joyce Meyer claims she is not a sinner. This is in violation of 1 John 1:8, which says that such people are deceived and the truth is not in them.
  6. There’s more, but these should suffice to illustrate to the reader that Joyce Meyer’s teaching is not edifying.

Please do not allow a teacher’s longevity lull you into thinking they must be good. Please do not allow a ministry’s global breadth to lull you into thinking he or she is good. In fact the Bible says that popularity is often a mark of falsity. (Luke 6:26). The world wants their ears tickled. In 2 Timothy 4:3 we read

For the time will come when they will not tolerate sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance with their own desires,

If you follow Joyce Meyer, please consider these things. Please stay in the pure, undefiled faith, and find some good Bible teachers to follow, beginning with your own pastor and elders at your own church.

  1. Joyce Myers has been a blessing to a huge number of people.. especially women. Including me. To call her a heretic is heresy

    1. “Helping a great many people” isn’t the barometer for whether someone is a heretic. Remember Luke 6:26, “Woe to you when all the people speak well of you; for their fathers used to treat the false prophets the same way.”

To dismiss serious accusation such as ‘X is a heretic’ by calling the messenger a heretic displays an astonishing lack of concern for Jesus, for the person accused, and for your own soul. Be a Berean (Acts 17:11). ASK WHY.

  2. You too are preaching to a wide audience of male and female, and you are female. And did you have your veil over your head when you wrote this or speak about God publicly? With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be.“I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.” I serve Apollos and I serve Paul, but rather Christ who is being lifted up. And if Jesus and the Kingdom of God is being preached who are you to judge and curse your sister in Christ? Many have been saved through her ministry, drawn into an intimate relationship, being about renew their carnal mind with God and went onto to serve God. With the same measure of law you measure your sister in her mistakes the same judgement will come back on you.
‭‭But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice. Yes, and I will continue to rejoice. You will know them by their fruits. Joyce Meyer maybe imperfect in her words but so was Paul, Peter, and all the disciples. Go forth sister in Christ and write something that will produce good fruit, not condemnation and judgement! May God bless you as we all come together and spread Gods love of Christ, not division.

    1. Oh dear, oh dear. Tina, I am sorry to say your lengthy comment included so many false, wrong, and biblically incorrect statements, to address them all would take ten blogs. I’ll do a quick bullet point list to show where you went off the rails:

–blogging is not preaching. It’s OK for women to write stuff
–you’re misusing the head covering verse
–you misunderstand the blessing and cursing verse
–You’re wrong on the ‘divisions’ verse
–many have been saved by her ministry? no one can be saved thru lies
–you *totally* misunderstand that discernment is not ‘law’
–you obviously don’t know the false teachers by their fruits, you need discernment. Badly
–alerting people to the wolves is good fruit

If I was to write a comment that had every incorrect statement about discernment, and every old chestnut, every tired trope, every ignorant utterance, yours would be it.

Better for you to have asked questions and reason with me, instead of being the typically biblically undiscerning person to resort to attacking the messenger. Failing to reason, ask, and seek knowledge and understanding will keep you ignorant and undiscerning.

  3. Blog yourself into oblivion if that is what you choose. If you disagree with joyce Meyer, why don’t you have a GODLY communication with her instead of creating dissension for the purpose of your blog? Anyways, GOD bless you and your endeavours! May you live in peace!

    1. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 instructs us:
“All scriptures is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

So, Elizabeth has the right to do what is right, and call out false prophets.

The only way to know this, is to study the Scriptures.

    1. Hi, judge not doesn’t mean what you think it means. It means WHEN you judge, don’t do so hypocritically. Jesu wasn’t saying to never judge, there are a lot of other verses which command us to discern. He was talking about hypocrisy.

Do not judge, so that you will not be judged. 2 For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. 3 Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 4 Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ and look, the log is in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye!

“I think” is not the basis on which we judge a person’s ministry. Be like the noble Bereans, who were commended not for saying “I think Paul is a good preacher” but because they compared what he taught with the word of God. (Acts 17:11)

Joyce Meyer is false. I am sorry you vaulted over all the biblical evidence presented to maintain your OPINION. This is dangerous and it’s not honoring to God. 👎

  6. Great zeal and effort. However, you can be sincere and yet Sincerely wrong like Paul the apostle before his conversion.
    A. Jesus came to offer us a way to have a relationship with God, a restoration to the pre-sin state. So, it’s only logical to converse with God which includes hearing from him:
Job 33:14 For God does speak–now one way, now another–though no one perceives it.
Revelation 3:20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.
John 10:27 My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
The experiences of the Bible is then our guide to recognising God’s voice because
    2 Cor 11:14
And no wonder, since Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light.
    B. 2 Corinthians 5:21
“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
Don’t know about sinless but I am the righteousness of God in Christ and this position is maintained by my faith in Christ’s finished work
“For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “But the righteous man shall live by faith” (Romans 1:17).

I’d kindly suggest that you calm down and do some maturing too before you fall into the same mistakes that your subject matter might have fallen into. Like you rightly said, 1Jn 1:8
