Major quake at Vanuatu, and earthquake data for you

There was an earthquake at Vanuatu on Saturday afternoon 1:00 pm local time. Its magnitude is classified as 7.5. Vanuatu is in the southern Pacific halfway between Fiji to its east and Queensland Australia to its west.

Any quake over 7.0 magnitude is considered ‘major’. On average, the USGS states that we can expect about 15 quakes of that magnitude each year. So far in 2011, the world has had 11 quakes of that magnitude. It is my estimate that due to the rate of strong and major quakes’ occurrence over these last five years (with those averages being regularly exceeded), the average will once again be exceeded this year as well.

As a matter of fact, the average amount of quakes in the 6.0-6.9 range is 134 and we have already had 140 so far this year in that magnitude, thus crushing the USGS average once again. In short, earthquakes are on the rise. Let’s take a look at the facts:

So the USGS even updated the averages and STILL are they exceeded annually. Here is a chart I generated and updated today through Aug 20. Source USGS data.

Earthquakes have long been one of the ways God gets our attention. “An earthquake is a great teacher. It doesn’t make any suggestions; it’s making commands. It doesn’t ask for our attention, it demands it. It doesn’t just hope we’ll contemplate and act, it brings about almost instant obedience.” (source).

God is in complete control. The bible teaches that everything that happens is under His control. Nothing that happens, happens without His permission, knowledge, and sovereign plan. Satan cannot make an earthquake. But God can. All that He does is for the good.

For the Christian, we know that our eternal destiny is settled. If we die in an earthquake, it is to the good, for we will be with Him. If we do not die in an earthquake, than nothing that we have lost is of eternal value. Our possessions? We won’t need them in heaven. Our health (if we are injured in a quake) will be restored. Since we live on the earth, we are flesh and therefore not impervious to sin’s effects nor remain untainted by calamity. But what we lose is nothing. Enduring a disaster means we have an opportunity to become dependent on God. That is always a good thing because He is the source of all good things. We can fellowship with the afflicted. We can grow and mature through hardship.

If a person is not saved and endures an earthquake, they learn that life is fragile. They learn that the time to settle the earthly accounts and eternal destiny is now. Also, though living in a place where quakes are common means likely that there are strong codes for buildings, there are limits to how far one can go to protect one’s self from calamity. If a quake is big enough, the place will be razed, codes or no codes. Witness Japan. Life is fragile and there is nothing like an earthquake to reveal that to puny humans.

All this to say, that though earthquakes are in the rise and will continue to be so (Luke 21:11, Rev 6:12, Rev 8:5, Rev 11:13, Rev 16:18), the saved should fear not. That link is to a search result where ‘fear not’ is stated 63 times. There are many more ways He tells us not to fear, just not in that particular phrase. Therefore, we should not fear.

Our wonderful Creator

Regular readers of this blog know that I love nature. I love the intricacies of how God created it all for His good and His glory. I love the macro. These are the large items in nature and the large complex systems- the sunsets and meteors and aurora borealis, the green flash, gravity, earthquakes, and black holes. I love the micro. These are the small systems- atoms and their electrons, mollusks, insect anatomy, rocks and the minerals they contain.

Regular readers also know that as a bible-believing fundamentalist, I adhere to the bible’s presentation of the creation in Genesis. It happened by the Word of God, over six days, and that’s that. And since God created the world, He created all its intricacies. The plants, insects, animals and humans and their complex interactions, whether symbiotic or parasitic.

Here are some examples of the intricacies I especially enjoy. These could not have evolved, but were made by the Ancient of Days who called them into being. In this first example of His creativity, I note that though the headline says the secret is unveiled the article actually says that ‘scientists are one step closer to unlocking the secret’:

Source Of Spider Silk’s Extreme Strength Unveiled
“The strength of spider dragline silk exceeds that of any material produced in laboratories, by far. All attempts to manufacture threads of similar strength have failed thus far,” explains Professor Horst Kessler, Carl von Linde Professor at the Institute for Advanced Study at the TU Muenchen (TUM-IAS). In collaboration with the workgroup of Prof. Thomas Scheibel, who was a researcher at the TU Muenchen until 2007 and who now holds a chair of the Institute of Biomaterials at the Universitaet Bayreuth, Professor Kessler’s team has been researching for years to unveil the secret of spider silk.” … “How do spiders manage to first store the silk proteins in the silk gland and to then assemble them in the spinning passage in a split second to form threads with these extraordinary characteristics? And what exactly gives the threads their tremendous tensile strength?”

The scientists explain what happens inside a spider when it is not spinning its web:

“Spider threads consist of long chains of thousands of repeating sequences of protein molecules. These silk proteins are stored in the silk gland in a highly concentrated form until they are needed. The long chains with their repeating sequences of protein molecules are initially unordered and must not get too close to each other as they would immediately clump up. Only in the spinning passage, just before being used, are the threads oriented parallel to each other and form so-called micro crystallites that are, in turn, assembled to stable threads with cross links.”

Right. Like that evolved. How did the spider evolve its proteins in such a way that it could tell them to order themselves into a spinning passage in perfect harmony and tensile strength that escapes anything humans can reproduce? What a great God we have to create a universe that has a perfectly ordered and functioning system in all things, in everything, including the silk spider!

Here is a snippet of the symbiosis that occurs between a moth and a moth mite:

“In one particular symbiotic relationship between mites and moths, mites of the genus Dicrocheles infest one “ear” of a moth. The moth’s ear has three chambers, one of which is separated from the other two by the eardrum. The mites crawl into the moth’s ear to lay their eggs, and in the process puncture the delicate eardrum, leaving the moth deaf in that ear. However, the mites are careful to colonize only one ear, because if they were to colonize both ears, the moth would be fully deaf and would be unable to hear approaching bats. The bat would eat the mites along with the moth.”

Dr. Asher Treat is the foremost expert on moth ear mites. He wrote in the Journal of Entomology 1957:

Good question indeed. Though the mites didn’t know of the danger of infesting both moth’s ears, they avoid it completely and universally by only infesting one ear. How did that come about? Not by evolution. God is wonderful indeed.

Consider the pesky barnacle. It adheres to a boat’s hull and when enough of them accumulate, they slow the craft to nail biting, foot stomping frenzies. When we scraped the barnacles off our sailboat, the average speed over ground increased by a knot and a half. Then again, if you ever scraped barnacles, you know how hard they are to get off. Their cement is legendary.

BARNACLE
“Barnacle cement, the substance the animals use to glue themselves to ships’ bottoms and to rocks, has attracted the interest of doctors. A layer of this cement three tenthousandths of an inch thick over one square inch will support a weight of 7000 pounds. It is even stronger than epoxy cement. At temperatures above 6000°F the glue will soften but not melt, and at 380°F the cement will not crack. It does not dissolve in most strong acids, alkalies, organic solvents, or water. If man could learn to manufacture this cement, which barnacles have been using for millions of years, it could be used to mend broken bones and hold fillings in teeth.”

The Journal of Biological Chemistry says that for the barnacle “To adhere effectively, the cement needs to accomplish several functions such as coagulation, displacement of water from the substratum, establishment of interfacial contact, and molecular attraction between dissimilar materials.”

JPK Industries in the UK writes,

Right. Like that evolved.

I always have loved the beauty of shells. They are stunning in their delicacy and colorful beauty. Did you know that when a mollusk is born, its apex part of the shell is born with it? This starter part of the shell is called the protoconch.

As the animal inside the shell grows the animal secretes exactly enough calcium (in beautiful patterns too) that he will need to live at the upcoming size in the chamber. Like this Turritella

So this has been an interlude of praise for a Creator of extreme intelligence, creativity, beauty, and love. he created this world for humans to populate in order that we might worship Him, and once sin is vanquished (Daniel 9:24) He will restore all to its perfect glory. And blessedly, our current state of imperfect worship and praise that I am exhibiting even now, will become perfect toward Him. As it should be.

A Tale of Two UFOs: China and Moscow

A commenter asked me on yesterday’s blog entry if I knew about the UFO over China’s airport. I responded that I did, and that I had written about it when it occurred last year. But then another  person alerted me to the fact that this was a new UFO incident over China’s airport that happened yesterday, not last year. WOW!

I was intrigued by the last year China UFO event over the airport because air traffic controllers had spotted the ‘craft’, or the ‘thing’, whatever it was. ATC’s are trained sky spotters. They are official. They are official enough that the airport was closed, because they feared incoming airplanes would collide with the UFO. In addition, the UFO was showing up on radar.

So when Anonymous said that another incident had occurred, I read up on it. Fox News reports,

Published August 18, 2011
“Planes were dramatically diverted away from a major Chinese airport after reports of a UFO circling a runway, the Shanghai Daily reported Thursday. The mysterious object was spotted Wednesday afternoon floating high above Jiangbei International Airport in the city of Chongqing, an important aviation hub for southwestern for southwestern China. Worried officials diverted several flights to other airports before it disappeared about 50 minutes later and air traffic was allowed to return to normal. The Chongqing government has not offered any explanation for the UFO, Shanghai Daily said. However, skeptical airport workers believe it was a sky lantern or a large balloon, the newspaper said.Wednesday’s scare mirrors an incident in July last year when Xiaoshan airport in the eastern city of Hangzhou was closed after baffled air traffic controllers spotted a UFO on their radar screens. The object vanished but footage of a strange glowing orb streaking across the night sky was posted on YouTube, sparking global interest in the supposed close encounter.”

The instant I saw that photo I remembered another incident. Get a load of this:

Mystery UFO halo over Moscow

“THIS glowing halo in clouds over Moscow looks like an Independence Day style alien attack. The astonishing ring was spotted over the city and captured on video by stunned locals. It has been described as a “true mystery” by a UFO expert. cores of supernatural enthusiasts have been gripped by the astonishing footage and speculated it could be an ALIEN MOTHERSHIP. The sighting in the clouds is reminiscent of scenes from the 1996 Hollywood blockbuster Independence Day.”

The picture just above is a still from a Youtube video of the incident over Moscow last year. You can click on the ‘Mystery UFO’ link and see a photo of it at the UK Sun. Are the Moscow UFO and yesterday’s China UFO the same photo? Are they the same UFO? Are the demons THAT close to showing themselves? What is going on?

The world we see is not the only world there is. There is another world that is close, but hidden behind the veil that God put up. Sometimes in the bible, He lifts the veil between His world and ours and allows us to glimpse His glorious home. In one example, Elijah in 2 Kings 2:11 was taken up to heaven by a chariot of fire.

In 2 Kings 6:16, Elisha was prophesying over the war with Aram, and when Elisha’s servant admitted fear because of the enemy multitudes that had gathered around them, Elisha prayed for his servant’s eyes to be opened. The servant saw the multitudes upon multitudes from God who were gathered in chariots and horses, ready to fight for God and defeat Aram’s forces.

In Luke 2 on that cold and starry night, when the veil lifted the shepherds saw the heavenly host. As Stephen was dying from his stoning by the angry mob, he looked up and saw the heavens parted, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God. (Acts 7:56).

God’s world is real, and it is so close to us. It is only as far away as a thin curtain being lifted. It would not take much more rebellion for the demons to punch through and show themselves. They follow satan who is already god of this world (2 Cor 4:4). In other words, they already roam up and down upon this world seeking whom they may devour. (Job 1:7;  1 Peter 5:8). Are they hovering even now, ready to come through the veil and show themselves?

At some point, they WILL irrupt. (Rev 9:2-3). Whether they choose to appear as angels of light (2 Cor 11:14-15) or as terrible demons screaming in the holy places (Luke 4:33), they will return. Jesus said in Matthew 24 that the times just before the end (during the Tribulation) will be as the Days of Noah, and we know from Genesis 6:5-6 that the Days of Noah were totally evil with men thinking evil thoughts continually.

Christians need not fear. Demons, or UFOs, or whatever you want to call them, are not greater than He who is in us. When they do eventually appear, when the veil is lifted and more and more supernatural things begin to take place, as Revelation 6, Matthew 24, and Daniel 2, 7, 11 show, His children will be in heaven. We will be enjoying our awards ceremony and marriage supper. You can be part of THAT supernatural event, by repenting. Please do so soon. It seems that the veil is already starting to be lifted…

Bugnado! Swarms of insects in swirling vortex

WJLA Washington DC reports:
“Imagine you’re tooling down the highway, maybe some Dave Dudley playing on the stereo, when you notice what seems to be black fog looming on the horizon. Getting closer, it becomes clear that the cloud is composed of hundreds of thousands of individual creatures, all buzzing crazily in the shape of a weak tornado. Too late to roll up the window! Within seconds, the whirling cloud of insects has filled the car, coating the upholstery with a fluttering mass of crawling chitin that’s trying to go all Lewis and Clark into your ear canals.”

“Congratulations: You’ve just had a brush with a “bugnado,” a rare insectoid twister somewhat like a locustcane or cicadaphoon. From the available evidence, a bugnado is spawned when heavy rain or floods and optimal temperatures cause insects to hatch en masse, conjuring dense colonies of buglife that ascend into sky-darkening breeding frenzies. These superswarms of gnats or mayflies might not have enough power to tear houses from their foundations like an EF-3 tornado, but certainly can send a vehicle to a series of costly appointment with the car wash. Some swarms are so dense they can appear on radar.”

“The gag-inducing term “bugnado” comes courtesy of one of our favorite storm photographers here at ABC7, Mike Hollingshead. On July 4, 2011, he found himself in the middle of a droning outbreak of bugnadoes in northwest Missouri.”

“Hollingshead, who’s responsible for some of the world’s coolest nighttime supercell photography as well as photos that just make you say Whoa!, was returning from a trip shooting this summer’s historic flooding of the Missouri River when something ahead brought him up short. It “looked like crazy smoke running down the interstate,” he said on his website, but in actuality it was “bugs, miles of bugs hanging out over I29 in weak tube forms.”

“The standing water left by the floods had created prime bugnado-generation conditions. Hollingshead earlier had noticed tree tops that looked like they were blackly “smoking,” the insect activity was that high. But on this night, he was in for a shocker: There was a bugnado that hovered above the pavement for nearly 15 minutes, waving gently like kelp in sea currents and splitting to form multiple vortices.”

If you go to 3:50 of the video, the scene shifts to an urban highway-bridge. If you view it until 4:29 there is a huge shower of sparks and fire on the left hand side of the bridge at the horizon. I don’t know what caused it. Nor do the videographers.

Fortunately, the bugnado is rare. For now… bwa ha ha!

Anti-Semitism is on the rise

The world is turning against the Jews. Here are are but a few stories which illustrate this unfortunate fact:

Facebook’s Holocaust Problem
The social-networking giant bans hate speech—but allows the proliferation of Holocaust-denial pages, saying it recognizes ‘people’s right to be factually wrong about historical events.’
For years, international organizations opposing anti-Semitism have been urging the planet’s preeminent social-networking platform to delete any content that asserts the Nazi-orchestrated extermination of 6 million Jews never took place. And for years, officials of Facebook, boasting more than 750 million active users, have refused, insisting that mere denial of the Holocaust, however “repugnant and ignorant,” doesn’t constitute “hate speech” as defined by Facebook’s Terms of Service policy prohibiting “content that: is hateful, threatening, or pornographic; incites violence; or contains nudity or graphic or gratuitous violence.”

Seven killed in series of terrorist attacks in southern Israel
“Seven people were killed and at least 26 people were wounded Thursday in a series of terrorist attacks on Israeli targets approximately 20 kilometers north of the southern city of Eilat, close to the border with Egypt.”

Gaza Under Attack Again
“Gaza is tonight under attack by Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) following a series of attacks today on Israeli military targets 20 km north of the southern city of Eilat, close to the border with Egypt. Hamas has denied responsibility for this afternoon’s attacks, which killed seven and injured at least 14, saying their strategy is to resist “the occupation of Palestinian lands from within, rather than from outside.” Despite the attacks coming from within Israeli territory and from the Egyptian border, Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu immediately stated they hold Hamas responsible, and would retaliate with “full force.” So far this evening, at least six Palestinians have been killed in the southern Gaza town of Rafah by IDF attacks on a house reportedly belonging to Popular Resistance Committees official Khaled Shaath, whose daughter was injured. IDF has been dropping leaflets over Rafah threatening Palestinians, as it did prior to launching Operation Cast Lead in December 2008.”

Things are NOT going to get better for Israel. They are getting a lot worse.

Deuteronomy 4:30 reminds the Jews that in the latter days they will experience distress, but there is hope of redemption after that:
“But from there you will seek the LORD your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul. 30 When you are in distress, and all these things come upon you in the latter days, when you turn to the LORD your God and obey His voice 31 (for the LORD your God is a merciful God), He will not forsake you nor destroy you, nor forget the covenant of your fathers which He swore to them.”

Jeremiah 30:7 reminds them that they will endure a time of trouble:
“Alas! For that day is great, So that none is like it; And it is the time of Jacob’s trouble, But he shall be saved out of it.”

Zechariah 12:2-3 reminds them that Jerusalem will be the center of controversy and distress from the entire world:
“Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of drunkenness to all the surrounding peoples, when they lay siege against Judah and Jerusalem. And it shall happen in that day that I will make Jerusalem a very heavy stone for all peoples; all who would heave it away will surely be cut in pieces, though all nations of the earth are gathered against it.”

In Matthew 24:21-22, Jesus tells the disciples that the Jews will endure such Tribulation that it will not be as bad as anything that has ever happened since the beginning of the world. It sill be such a bad tie that unless Jesus cut short the days, nobody would survive. No one.

Revelation 6-19 are chapters that describe in horrific detail all the things that are promised to happen to the Jews under God’s purification program.

It is obvious that Anti-Semitism is rapidly on the rise. We know from the above verses that the hatred of the Jews by the world will only continue to increase. Please pray for the beloved People. The reason for His attention in this manner is to give them hope. Yes, hope.

The Lord is purifying His people. They (and we, the pagans and Gentiles) are stiff-necked sinners, worshiping idols and refusing the fact that Messiah has come. But He is going to work them, the clay, as He is the potter, until they are purified from unrighteousness and able to come into the promises that He has set before them since the foundation of the world. Like this promise from Isaiah:

Isaiah 55:12– “You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.”

Psalm 105:43 He brought out his people with rejoicing, his chosen ones with shouts of joy

There will be shouts of joy. But between now and then there will be shouts of misery. However, any Jew, Pagan, or Gentile, any person at all, can avoid all that. If you repent and ask Jesus to forgive your sins against Him, He will. His work with you as clay will be of a different type, gentle, loving, not wrathful. Please consider it, and soon.

One step closer to One World Government?

The United States is not the only nation struggling with the economy and teetering on the edge of (or plummeting into, depending on your perspective) a depression. The European Union of nations are also struggling mightily. Spain, Ireland, Portugal, Italy are all plummeting fast, and France is teetering. Even strong Germany’s economy has slowed. This last bit of information seemed to shake the normally staid Prime Minister Angela Merkel.

As a result of currency woes, economy struggles, and unrest, the two European nations France and Germany agreed to meet. They came up with an idea. They proposed this idea. The idea is:

Sarkozy, Merkel Plan ‘Collective Govt’
“France and Germany have proposed “collective economic government” for the eurozone after European investors sought reassurance from the two countries’ leaders. Details of French President Nicolas Sarkozy and German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s plan remains unclear, reports Reuters. It was revealed after the pair met in Paris for talks on the issue, with markets anxious for signs they have a plan to restore stability in the region. The meeting comes as new figures show Germany’s economy has lost its “dynamism” and has all but stalled in recent months, putting further pressure on the eurozone. The quarterly GDP growth figure of only 0.1% was way below expectations and is significantly lower than the 1.3% growth recorded in the previous three months…”

France & Germany: Save euro with one EU government
“The leaders of France and Germany tonight called on Eurozone nations to form a “collective government” to save the struggling currency. French President Nicolas Sarkozy and German Chancellor Angela Merkel put forward the radical plan to balance the budgets of the 17 nations that use the crisis-hit single currency.”

The book of Daniel 2and 7 and Revelation 13 tell us that the final world government and its final evil ruler rises from a reformed European empire. We know that in the Tribulation, the antichrist will rule over ten nations. (Daniel 7:24-25; Rev 17:12-13). That the European Union has reformed is an amazing prophetic fulfillment. After all Rome collapsed in the early 400s. That the European Union leaders as it exists today is proposing an even closer relationship under one government seems to be the final movement toward the reformation of a kingdom prophesied to give rise to the world’s most evil dictator.

How close are we? Pretty durn close, if you ask me.

Teenage demon slayers graduate from school for exorcists

Did that blog entry title catch your attention? It should. It isn’t even hyperbole. It is not made-up. And it is not an exaggeration. Teenage demon slayers actually have graduated from an actual school for exorcists.

Here is an excerpt from the UK Daily Mail- just to show you that this is a real news article reporting on real events. Apparently, the demon world is winning, the Catholic priests are dying off of old age and no new exorcists have been trained to replace them, so the Catholic Church outsourced. I am not making this up.

–Brynne Larson, 16, is one of many newly-qualified teenage demon slayers
–Reverend Bob Larson of Spiritual Freedom Churches runs exorcist school
–No set protocol for exorcisms but girls carry a Bible, holy water and a cross

“The five teenage girls might look like they’re in a normal class, eagerly reading their textbooks and answering their teacher’s questions diligently. But the textbooks are Bibles and the girls all have crosses instead of protractors, as they train to become exorcists – real exorcists who fight demons, curses and evil spells. ‘People do look a bit surprised when I arrive,’ admits graduate exorcist Brynne Larson. ‘When people call for an exorcist, they don’t picture a 16-year-old high school girl.’ But Brynne, from Phoenix, Arizona, is one of a new breed of qualified teenage demon slayers, who answered a call when the Church made the admission of there being a worldwide exorcist shortage. But despite drastic efforts, supply has still not met demand for the controversial ceremony. The Vatican’s chief exorcist Father Gabriele Amorth, 85, has revealed that he alone has dealt with 70,000 cases of demonic possession. So if the forces of darkness start getting the upper hand, who should you call? Evangelist Reverend Bob Larson of Spiritual Freedom Churches International – and his remarkable school for exorcists. ‘Think of it more of an exorcist franchise,’ Rev Larson tells MailOnline exclusively. ‘The Church just can’t keep up with demand. But I have 100 teams of trained exorcists working all over the world, and outbreaks of demonic possession are getting out of control.”

Ohhh, there are so many things wrong with this. Let me count the ways.

First, it is true that “You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.” (1 John 4:4). There is no question that Jesus is greater than anything, anyone, or any place. He IS the power over demons, and any Christian with the Holy Spirit indwelling them has access to the power of Jesus.

That said, demons are a very serious thing. Demons, remember, are fallen angels who are under the influence of satan. They reject Jesus’ authority and are out only to lie, steal, and destroy. If demons are fallen angels, then take a moment to reflect on the power of the angels.

In Daniel 10:13 the Lord dispatched an angel to bring a message to Daniel the prophet. Another angel, the Prince of Persia, stopped the Lord’s angel from delivering that message for 21 days. Finally Michael the archangel was sent to help the angel being hindered from delivering the message. So the verse shows us that one of satan’s angels stopped an angel of the Lord from completing his duty for three weeks. That is power.

In Revelation, there are angels who execute the will of God during the judgments. In one instance, Revelation 19:17 shows us “…an angel standing in the sun, who cried in a loud voice to all the birds flying in midair, “Come, gather together for the great supper of God,'”

An angel standing in the sun and speaking in a voice loud enough for the birds in our atmosphere to hear? That is power.

In Daniel 10:6, we read a description of another angel: “His body was like chrysolite, his face like lightning, his eyes like flaming torches, his arms and legs like the gleam of burnished bronze, and his voice like the sound of a multitude.”

That is a powerful angel.

Even the Apostles were stumped by some demons, and only Jesus could cast them out. When the Apostles asked Jesus why they had failed, “And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer and fasting”. (Mark 9:29-30).

Angels resisting the Lord’s angels for three weeks, standing in the sun, unleashing judgment, defeating the Apostles, and looking like the one described above? POWERFUL. Though the fallen ones have rebelled against Jesus’ authority they still retain their power and abilities. And who is going to challenge the powerful fallen angels? These newly minted exorcists:

So…really? Really?

OK, aside from the fact that demons are extremely powerful, the bible says we are to resist them. Not chase them. Not stalk them and cast them out. Resist. “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7). We are instructed to wear our spiritual armor (Ephesians 6:10-18) but nowhere does it say that we are to go forth and wield it, except to pray and to resist.

Jesus is our intercessor. (Romans 8:34). If we appeal to Him, He will banish the demon.

The bible gave a credential to the Apostles to “raise the dead, cast out demons.” (Mt 10:5-8). In this sermon by John MacArthur, he explains “The only thing I think about when I hear that is power. I mean, the power to raise the dead and the power to invade the kingdom of darkness, the unseen world of the demons, and overcome that kingdom, that’s power! Now I can’t raise the dead or cast out demons, and neither can you. Today, no one has the power and authority our Lord and His apostles had over demons and death. You say, “Then how does this relate to us?” Because it shows us power. The mark of the apostles was power.”

One of the credentials Jesus gave to the Apostles to cement their calling was an ability to raise the dead and cast out demons. I personally believe that because the credential was given as a sign, that when the Apostles died the sign died with them. Therefore I believe that no one is able to raise the dead nor cast out demons today. I believe that power now rests only with Jesus. ‘But, but’, you say, ‘it seems that people are casting out demons all the time!’

In this same sermon by John MacArthur, he explains further,

“The Jewish exorcists, who were common in the time of Christ and went around casting out demons, charged people. When people were demon-possessed or had family members who were demon-possessed, they would go to the exorcists for deliverance. Ultimately those exorcists had no results because the people were demon-possessed because of sin, and the exorcists couldn’t do anything about that. Nevertheless, people would pay great amounts of money to get exorcised.”

It is the same today. Except instead of being elder Jewish men, they are teenage girls. Does it make sense to you that a youngster in the faith would be given the incredible charge to deal with demons? There are strict standards for the teachers, pastors, and elders on behavior, doctrine and comportment. (James 3:1; 1 Timothy 3:2-3; 1 Timothy 3:11; Titus 2:11-12; Titus 2:3-5). If indeed engaging with demons is the way to go (and I believe it is not) then why, WHY send teens in to the battle when it is clear that the battle belongs to the elders? How wrongheaded is that?

As for the exorcist school, I have an opinion on that one too. The bible is the exorcism school. Otherwise, when one examines demons, it is demons that are on your mind. You study them. You think about them. You ponder tactics to combat them. You gradually become saturated with demons, instead of what you should be saturated with, which are thoughts of Jesus. It is a good way to draw someone away from the thoughts of righteousness and plunge them into darkness.

Philippians 4:8 says “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” If you study demons you will not be thinking about the admirable things.

I mourn for the teens being sent in to deal with situations that may be beyond their ability to handle them. And as for the person who is being exorcised, “When an evilf spirit comes out of a man, it goes through arid places seeking rest and does not find it. Then it says, ‘I will return to the house I left.’ When it arrives, it finds the house unoccupied, swept clean and put in order. Then it goes and takes with it seven other spirits more wicked than itself, and they go in and live there. And the final condition of that man is worse than the first. That is how it will be with this wicked generation.”

This is because a person cannot be possessed by a demon if they are a believer. (Colossians 1:13,; 2 Corinthians 6:15–16; Romans 8:37; 1 Corinthians 15:57; 2 Corinthians 2:14; 1 John 2:13). If one is possessed, they need salvation, and the remedy for that is Jesus. He will cast out the demon and as a glorious gift, send the Spirit to indwell.

I hope that the Lord comes soon. Everyone will finally be safe. Safe from demons and safe from demon slayers. Safe in the arms of the Strong One who loves us!

Shocking tent city in NJ

The UK Daily Mail does a good job of keeping up on news from the United States. Better than even the United States media.

The Tent City of New Jersey: Desperate victims of the economic slump forced to live in makeshift homes in forest
In scenes reminiscent of the Great Depression these are the ramshackle homes of the desperate and destitute U.S. families who have set up their own ‘Tent City’ only an hour from Manhattan.
More than 50 homeless people have joined the community within New Jersey’s forests as the economic crisis has wrecked their American dream. And as politicians in Washington trade blows over their country’s £8.8 trillion debt, the prospect of more souls joining this rag tag group grows by the day. Building their own tarpaulin tents, Native American teepees and makeshift balsa wood homes, every one of the Tent City residents has lost their job.”

The photos are amazing, the Daily Mail really does a good job with pictures. I feel for the people who have been affected and are reduced to living under tarps, exposed to the weather, and scrounging for food. These statistics from The Economic Collapse Blog show that this kind of living standard awaits many more of us:

“At this point, there is no solution to our national debt problem under our current financial system. Most state governments are also facing huge financial problems. The state government of Illinois is so broke at this point that it can’t even afford to bury the poor people that are dying. But Illinois is not alone. All over the country, state and local governments have been implementing austerity measures. According to the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, state and local governments have slashed more than half a million jobs since August 2008.”

There are more statistics at the link that paint a bleak economic picture for the near term. But for Christians the near term looks very bright. GLORIOUSLY bright! Our Lord and Savior, who loves us, will come down from His abode in heaven, issue a shout, and we shall rise, the dead and the living, to meet Him in the air. (1 Thess 4:17; 1 Cor 15:52). You can be part of this grand reunion as well. All you have to do is confess your sins to the Lord, for He is righteous judge, and ask Him to pardon you, for He is merciful judge. Your sins will be forgiven and forgotten, and you can be part of the wonderful Marriage Supper of the Lamb, a banquet of cleansed saints and our Groom, Jesus. It is up to you, for He is kind Judge, allowing you to choose Him, and not forcing Himself upon you. You won’t get the same treatment from satan.

The Vancouver Sun reports that there is a whole lotta shakin goin on. They’re mystified by it.

For months, residents of south and west Windsor have been wondering and worrying about vibrations of unknown origin. And now, those mysterious rumblings under the city have found a new believer — the city’s Ward 10 Coun. Al Maghnieh, who says it’s time to start taking the phenomenon seriously. “It’s very present and real,” he said. Maghnieh added that those who think the phenomenon is a joke or that its proponents are “crazy” need to grasp the implications in terms of health and the environment. “I mean, it’s actually scary to think that this is going on and we still can’t pinpoint what it is,” he said. “This is potentially very dangerous.” Maghnieh said he first started receiving calls from concerned citizens back in March. But it wasn’t until the early hours of Friday morning — when he’d arranged to visit the homes of rumble witnesses — that he experienced the sensation himself. “It’s a very sharp, consistent rumble sound,” Maghnieh said. “Sometimes it’s like a hum.” [more at link[

Another earth event no one is able to explain…

In June the UK Telegraph reported another village is latest victim of ‘the hum’.
“It is a mysterious sound on the very edge of perception that has driven thousands of people around the world to distraction.” Now a tiny English village is the latest community to claim to be being hit by the phenomenon known as “the hum”. Residents of Woodland, in County Durham, claim that every night a noise permeates the air similar to the throb of a car engine. It is sometimes so strong that it even shakes the bed of one of the householders. But no matter how hard they look, the community cannot find the source of the problem and, at their wits end, have called in the council to investigate. The 300-strong population is the latest around the world to be hit by the rumble which has in the past led to wild conspiracy theories blaming it on UFOs, government experiments and abandoned mine shafts.”

This video is from Kiev a few days ago. It is a video of a cityscape scene that is veritably throbbing with a humming noise. It is not traffic. I make no claim about what it purports to show. Without context, the sound could simply be a street-level tunnel construction. On the other hand, I don’t think anyone would take a video of the sound if it was attributable to normal and ongoing construction…

In this news spot from California a few days ago, the newscaster reports that the hills are smoking. The news spot is headed by the phrase “Mystery Phenomenon.”

Hmmm, weird. Other reports say that it may have been a minor quake that opened a submerged tar pit that when added the oxygen and it got superheated. There are a lot of “maybes’ and ‘possiblies’ in that explanation.

News Daily states unequivocally that we’ve all seemed to gone mental. Their speculation is that it’s the sun doing it.

Riots, wild markets: Did space storms drive us mad?
“Rollercoaster financial markets and the worst riots Britain has seen in decades have made it quite a week for a time of year that is usually so dead the newspapers are filled with “silly season” tales of amusing pet antics. Everyone is pointing fingers — at blundering politicians, hooded thugs, disaffected youths, bumbling police and greedy bankers — but could the cause for all the madness really be the star at the center of our solar system?”

They go on to speculate that it may be the bombardment of Coronal Mass Ejections containing high concentrations of charged ions driving us crazy.

It’s not ions. It’s sin. As Terry James at Rapture ready wrote today so eloquently, “The Holy Spirit (the Restrainer) will withdraw from His office as governor on the consciences of mankind, we are told in 2 Thessalonians 2: 6-8. Then evil will be unleashed to make life hell on earth for all of those left behind to face God’s wrath and judgment.”

The Tribulation is a time when the LORD will shake the earth. He is in control of the earth, the sky, the universe, and heaven. He will cause the stars to fall, the sun to go black, earthquakes to crumble mountains and islands to disappear. The earth will crack apart, it will be split asunder. (Rev 6, Isaiah 24:19; Matthew 24, Amos 5:18; Nahum 1:5…).

He is speaking now. He is longsuffering and patient, waiting for those who will repent, to repent. So what are you waiting for? Ask Jesus to forgive your sins! He will!

It’s come to this: fake alien invasion would cure the economic slump

On CNN, Fareed Zakaria’s show “GPS” Sunday night, Economics Professor and Opinion Columnist to the NY Times Paul Krugman came up with a novel idea to help the economic slump.

As Huffington Post reports, “Paul Krugman is so frustrated by the lack of support for another round of stimulus spending that he’s now calling for a fake alien invasion of the United States to spur a World War II-style defense buildup.”

It’s official. We have stopped making sense. To continue-

“Krugman was a guest on CNN’s “Fareed Zakaria GPS” on Sunday. Speaking with Zakaria and Harvard economist Ken Rogoff, he made the same case he has been making for years–that deficits are not the top economic concern of the day. Krugman noted that the effort of World War II helped end the Great Depression, and joked that something similar was needed today. “If we discovered that, you know, space aliens were planning to attack and we needed a massive buildup to counter the space alien threat and really inflation and budget deficits took secondary place to that, this slump would be over in 18 months,” he said. “And then if we discovered, oops, we made a mistake, there aren’t any aliens, we’d be better–” “We need Orson Welles, is what you’re saying,” Rogoff cut in. “There was a ‘Twilight Zone’ episode like this in which scientists fake an alien threat in order to achieve world peace,” Krugman said. “Well, this time, we don’t need it, we need it in order to get some fiscal stimulus.”

The clip is 1:36 and he makes the statement starting at 1:00 but it is always good to listen to the entire thing to get the context. Now, I don’t think he was really calling for a fake space alien invasion, but I can’t be totally sure. He never said ‘just kidding’ or backed off, but used the example of the Twilight Zone episode to validate his idea that a certain government in the fictional episode faked an external threat to pull their nation out of a slump. Are space aliens THAT prevalent in the thinking of the folks making decisions today? Apparently so.

What I find more sinister is that a high-level influence maker such as Krugman would openly tout the tactic of the government lying regarding a full-scale invasion in order to accomplish its goals.

The bible says that in the Tribulation, “And there shall be signs in the sun and in the moon and in the stars and upon the earth distress of nations with perplexity the sea and the waves roaring” (Luke 21:25). I mentioned yesterday that the seas roaring is a symbol for the restless populations. “Though certainly the interpretation can be made that this is literally the seas roaring, indeed, there are so many natural disasters occurring now and will occur in the Tribulation it is more than possible, but I don’t think it means only that. In Isaiah it is explained what the metaphor means: “Isaiah 17:12 Oh, the raging of many nations–they rage like the raging sea! Oh, the uproar of the peoples–they roar like the roaring of great waters!”

The word ‘distress’ or in other translations, “anguish” in the Greek means: “tension from difficult circumstances that “won’t move” which produces distress (anguish) – causing someone to feel “locked in”. It means that there will be problems that the decision-makers cannot solve, and the populations are restless and rebelling because of it. We see the beginning of that status now.

The protracted period of non-decision making and the intractable global problems also set up another prophecy to be fulfilled: the antichrist’s solutions will appeal so greatly to the world that they will accept him quickly.

Meanwhile, back in the present (and on earth) I note that the casual mention of space aliens can be marked as a success on satan’s side. The influx of Hollywood movies with the theme, television programs, books, comic books, and video games on the theme of intelligent life from outer space, all have desensitized the human psyche to the normal recoil that used to occur in the pre-1940s when speaking of the subject. Now we take it as a matter of course that such beings exist. And in Krugman’s case, they can be used as a convenient lie to spend us into oblivion in order that the economy would revive. (Remember, angels are off-planet intelligent beings, some of whom from satan’s side are intent on destroying us.)

In any case, it’s come to this: the people at the highest levels who are supposed to be offering solutions to the problems of the day are now simply babbling. Next to Krugman, who wouldn’t embrace the genius solutions that the flattering and smooth antichrist comes up with?
