Why we study prophecy

It’s fairly obvious that the world is in its death throes. I get right to the point, don’t I? People who don’t know the bible understand that the times are wild and things are happening that aren’t consistent with an orderly progression of years and decades of human advancement and civilization. For bible believers, we understand that the birth pangs are gearing up to the moment when the birth begins, when the water breaks and the violent, bloody tumult of labor ends with a renewed world and sin addressed. Why do we watch the times and look up because our redemption draws nigh?

1. So we are prepared.
2. So we can tell others.

The entire word of God is inspired and good for us to study so we can hear what He has to say to us. I don’t mean just read, I mean study. Think deeply about what the scriptures are saying about you have just read. Do not give a cursory reading, shut the book and then go make a sandwich. Study. Ask questions. Learn the cross references. Mull and ponder the words and the meanings of what the verse is saying. The book is active, living. It breathes. (Hebrews 4:12). It is sharper than a two edged sword, and you don’t read this book, it reads you.

It will educate you by the power of the Holy Spirit when you pray for wisdom and understanding. But first, we need to diligently seek that understanding by applying all of our critical faculties to what it says.

The prophetic scriptures are often overlooked as being allegorical only (they’re not), as being irrelevant (it isn’t) as being fulfilled (not all of them) as being tinged with a stigma as not as important as the ‘real’ verses (nope, just as important). I’ve noticed that though the bible says we should be excited about the soon appearing of our Lord, encouraged by the imminence, (1 Thess 4:18; 1 Thess 5:11) in awe of the Lord’s deeds (Ex 15:11; Ps 66:5; Zeph 2:11…), the closer we get to rapture the more that rapture watchers say “I’ve changed my mind- I think it could be decades.”

Yet God, in His infinite wisdom, put prophecy in His Word because He knows it is good for us to understand. The Lord has put prophetical truth into His Word because He wants us to know! Prophecy reveals His sovereignty more than any other scripture, in my opinion. He tells us thousands of years prior and then it comes true exactly the way He said. I never get over seeing that and reading it and knowing it.

“Remember the former things of old, For I am God, and there is no other;I am God, and there is none like Me,Declaring the end from the beginning, And from ancient times things that are not yet done, Saying, ‘My counsel shall stand, And I will do all My pleasure,’Calling a bird of prey from the east,The man who executes My counsel, from a far country.Indeed I have spoken it;I will also bring it to pass. I have purposed it;I will also do it.” (Isaiah 46:9-11)

Prophecy reveals His sovereignty also because it shows that His purposes cannot be set aside, diverted nor thwarted. He is over all, and He will bring it about as He has said.

Prophecy leads us to Christ. For who above anyone else can do these things. Who is like Him? None!

“Who then is like me? Let him proclaim it. Let him declare and lay out before me what has happened since I established my ancient people, and what is yet to come–yes, let him foretell what will come.” (Isaiah 44:7).

There is no God like our God, and He chose to reveal details of His plan and purpose from the ancient of times to now. Learn it! Study it! Be humbled by it! You will be in awe of Him, AND you will be comforted. He will bring about our redemption just as He brings about these other things. He will bring about our renewal from creatures of sin to creations of His glory. It is a comfort to remain in His truth, His word is a security blanket that comforts as much as it convicts.

“Do this, knowing the time, that it is already the hour for you to awaken from sleep; for now salvation is nearer to us than when we believed. The night is almost gone, and the day is near. Therefore let us lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.” (Romans 13:11-12)

The movie The Immortals and the bible

I loved Greek Mythology growing up. I had a thick Bulfinch’s, the bible of myth books. I took classes, I read about them on my own. Greek myths were really interesting to me.

But now I know that there is one True God, that is El Shaddai, the Ancient of Days. All the rest are lies from satan, spawned upon gullible humans after he fell. Not convinced? Here is a short definition of the original Greek god myth:

“The Titans, also known as the elder gods, ruled the earth before the Olympians overthrew them. The ruler of the Titans was Cronus who was de-throned by his son Zeus. Most of the Titans fought with Cronus against Zeus and were punished by being banished to Tartarus. Since it is satan’s version, of course the gods of Olympus (new crop of underling gods) eventually defeated the Titans (original ones). Many of the Titans were cast into Tartarus.”

Oh, how satan would like to make a revisionist history like that one really stick!

Here is the bible:
“For God did not spare angels when they had sinned, but hurling them down to Tartarus consigned them to caves of darkness, keeping them in readiness for judgement.” (2 Peter 2:4 WNT).

Most versions of the verse say that they were cast down to ‘gloomy dungeons’ and there is usually a footnote at the bottom, and gloomy dungeons is defined “Tartarus.” So in the Greek myths version (satan’s) he won, and God is sent to Tartarus. In the bible, the truth is that God wins and satan’s henchmen are in Tartarus.

In The Iliad (c. 700), Zeus asserts that Tartarus is “as far beneath Hades as heaven is high above the earth.”

In the bible we read, “For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him;” (Psalm 103:11).

In Luke 10:15 we see “And you, Capernaum, will not be exalted to heaven, will you? You will be brought down to Hades!”

And in Isaiah we read, “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:9).

I visited a bible forum in the pursuit of quotes for this essay. In one forum, they were marveling that Greek myths were in the bible and therefore being taught as authoritative. It really stumped them.

The Greek myths were spawned from satan as a perversion of the Truth, people! The bible came FIRST! I didn’t write that on the forum, lol, but I really wanted to let them have it.

The new movie out called “The Immortals” is an updating of the ancient Greek myths. Look at the synopsis below and tell me that doesn’t sound familiar:

“Eons after the Gods won their mythic struggle against the Titans, a new evil threatens the land. Mad with power, King Hyperion  has declared war against humanity. Amassing a bloodthirsty army of soldiers disfigured by his own hand, Hyperion has scorched Greece in search of the legendary Epirus Bow, a weapon of unimaginable power forged in the heavens by Ares. Only he who possesses this bow can unleash the Titans, who have been imprisoned deep within the walls of Mount Tartaros since the dawn of time and thirst for revenge. In the king’s hands, the bow would rain destruction upon mankind and annihilate the Gods. But ancient law dictates the Gods must not intervene in man’s conflict. They remain powerless to stop Hyperion…until a peasant named Theseus  comes forth as their only hope. Secretly chosen by Zeus, Theseus must save his people from Hyperion and his hordes…”

“Fifth Trumpet: The Locusts from the Bottomless Pit”
“Then the fifth angel sounded: And I saw a star fallen from heaven to the earth. To him was given the key to the bottomless pit. And he opened the bottomless pit, (Tartarus) and smoke arose out of the pit like the smoke of a great furnace. So the sun and the air were darkened because of the smoke of the pit. Then out of the smoke locusts came upon the earth. And to them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power.” Revelation 9:1-3.

Of course satan’s only human hope is the antichrist. Just like the ‘only hope’ character in the movie, the antichrist has a bow, too. “Now I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals; and I heard one of the four living creatures saying with a voice like thunder, “Come and see.” And I looked, and behold, a white horse. He who sat on it had a bow; and a crown was given to him, and he went out conquering and to conquer.” (Rev 6:1-2)

I hope by now you see the parallels. The spiritual war that we know is occurring is being played out among us and soon it will be real and visible enough. Hollywood has been an aider and abettor of satan since the early days of film and The Immortals is just another example of how satan is preparing humanity to accept the lie. The themes of most of the movies we see nowadays are in some way parallel to the themes of the last days events that will soon enough be playing out in your front yard.

As far as movies in general go, use a simple question before deciding to sacrifice your time and your money at the altar of Hollywood moguls, “Does it honor God?” The rapture is soon. Please be engaged in some activity that you will be relieved to have been doing the split-second before you see Him!

Folks, things are moving fast. It is hard to keep up. Joel C. Rosenberg used the word suddenly when he wrote about the current intensification of speculation about a possible preemptive strike by Israel against Iran. His very good and educational article outlining the current situation is called “Is Netanyahu Signaling a Preemptive Strike Against Iran?”

Tomorrow: (or sometime in probably the near future):

The bible prophecies that wars will occur in the Tribulation. It prophesies these wars in Revelation 6:3-4 as one of the Four Horsemen. Wars and rumors of wars are prophesied in Matthew 24:6. However, war as a general state is not the only prophecy. There are specific wars prophesied to come. The question is not what those wars are. The questions is when. These wars are :

1. Damascus will be destroyed according to Isaiah 17:1.
2. Israel’s abutting neighbors will attack Israel as prophesied in Psalm 83.
3. Israel’s far neighbors will attack Israel. known as the Gog-Magog War of Ezekiel 38-39.

The only thing we know about timing of when these wars may occur is that by the very end of the Gog Magog war, the church will be gone. This is because the LORD God literally pokes His face through the veil and reveals Himself supernaturally, so that all nations know He is the LORD-

“In days to come, Gog, I will bring you against my land, so that the nations may know me when I am proved holy through you before their eyes.” (Ez 38:16)

“And so I will show my greatness and my holiness, and I will make myself known in the sight of many nations. Then they will know that I am the LORD.’ (Ez 38:23)

But more importantly, not only the nations will know it is the Lord that rescues Israel in this attack (that they are about to lose) but Israel knows.

“‘I will make known my holy name among my people Israel.” (Ezekiel 39:7a).

From that day forward the people of Israel will know that I am the LORD their God.” (Ezekiel 39:22.)

It is this battle, prophecy students say, that calls Israel back to covenant with God, and the call for a Temple goes up and sacrifices resume after a 2000 year cessation. We know sacrifices begin because the antichrist stops them according to Daniel 9:26-27. So the wars will happen. We don’t know when- before the rapture, or after?

The wars are not long-drawn out affairs. In Isaiah 17, it explicitly says that in the evening Damascus will be there and by morning it will be gone. (Is 17:14).

The Psalm 83 war with near neighbors is thought to be one that occurs quickly and decisively. It seems that Israel regains the lands promised to her by God to Abraham. It is thought that Israel’s victory of all the near neighbors is so decisive that it causes the literal and mental relief and relaxation and thus will be living in a land of unwalled villages as Ezekiel 38:11- when the Iranians and the Russians come calling.

The entire scenario could be played out within months. The three battles, or wars, won’t take as long as the Afghanistan and Iranian wars the Americans have been engaged in. It would be more like Israel’s Six Day War.

Therefore we may indeed be around to see them. Or not. As the Lord wills.

The heat is incredibly turned up. Middle East is definitely at a boiling point when Israel is openly talking of an attack, and the US and UK are too. Iran will not take this lightly nor will Hezbollah or the Palestinian Authority.  As birth pangs will do, the cataclysms and paroxysms are coming one upon another now, the news s unfolding that fast. Pray you will be found ready to stand before the Lord. He is merciful and loving, but above all He is HOLY.

Atheist’s Penn’s 10 commandments suspiciously similar to God’s

On January 21, 2010, magician and showman celebrity Penn Jillette tweeted: “Glenn Beck asked me to write “The Atheist Ten Commandments.” He’s not the boss of me, but I decided to do it anyway. It’s pretty fun.”

It goes without saying that Penn is a serious atheist, libertine, liberal, and opposed to God and the idea of God. I have no idea of the backstory concerning the challenge from Beck to write an Atheists’ Ten Commandments, other than the mention that there was a challenge and I’ve looked. I only found the tweet. But Penn did write a book on it and it’s out. The book is called “God NO!”

The moral standards for atheists that Penn thinks people should live by are on the left, which are suspiciously similar to, you know, God’s? His are on the right. Click the image to go larger.

They are similar to but differ in one important way. Penn, and all of unsaved man, believe that the highest ideal is a good person is his intelligence and creativity. That we can achieve goodness on our own if we follow these rules … or work harder … or live in a world without the negative influence of religion … or follow certain steps … or speak certain mantras … Alas, none of these are true and none will succeed.

The failure of atheists is to understand what Christians know: we are rotten. We are no good. There is no good in us, not one of us does good. (Romans 3:12, Psalm 53:3). We are full of deceitful desires (Ephesians 4:22). We are bad trees bearing bad fruit. (Matthew 7:17).

You may balk, and say, “I do good! I give to the homeless and I volunteer in a hospital and I mentor an at-risk young boy!” Those are good things to be sure. But we are not looking at what is good based on a barometer like Penn’s that goes no higher that the most intelligent person. Comparing goodness of one person to another may certainly get you Goodness points on Penn’s scale. But who is Penn? Goodness is compared against the Holiness of God. Compared to THAT, none of us even come close. It is like a gnat saying they are stronger, smarter, better than a Mack Truck. It is like a drop of water challenging the Tsunami. And even those are puny analogies. God’s holiness is so bright and strong that if any man were to see it he would explode on the spot. (Ex 33:20). Every man who saw the glory of God unveiled – even a split second of it – fell on His face and wished he were dead, or fell down as he were dead, because he knew his sin was filthy compared to God’s holiness (Isaiah 5:21, Rev 1:17, Luke 5:8, Dan 10:5-9, Mark 4:41). If they didn’t fall down they became terrified.

And Penn, and atheists in general, elevate man’s intelligence to higher than a glory so great men can’t absorb it for a nanosecond? In Penn’s wrongful elevation of man to the top of the heap, he places man’s intelligence as the star on the Christmas tree. Thinking that there is no higher intelligence than man’s is foolish. “Do not deceive yourselves. If any one of you thinks he is wise by the standards of this age, he should become a “fool” so that he may become wise.’ (1 Corinthians 3:18).

“Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes and clever in their own sight.” (Isaiah 5:21).

Here is the bottom line: we cannot be good but God is good. The reason we can’t be good is that we are sinners. We’re born that way. We’re born to sin. It is why we can’t know God, literally and figuratively. Man is SO craven that his blinded mind simply can’t even conceive of Godliness. It is literally not in his nature to think that way. So God draws us to Him. When we refuse Him, as Penn has (“God, NO!”) it is after wrestling with the conviction of the Holy Spirit, a hard-won, blatant refusal despite the grip the Spirit has on us all to draw us from sin toward forgiveness and then glory.

This rejection has eternal consequences. God first says ‘OK’. He then gives the person over to his desires, his degrading passions, and his sin. When that person dies, he has his wish granted to be separate from God forever, finally. He goes to hell, where God is not.

Penn’s moral rules are good. But without God in them, authoring them, molding us to them, they are only ashes in the mouth of a dying man.

UNESCO grants full membership to Palestinian Authority

UNESCO and the Palestinians-

The Palestinians had lodged a request to the UN Security Council to become a full member state in the United Nations. At the same time, they put in a request to be a full member state in the cultural and scientific organisation of the UN called UNESCO. The vote for the statehood-membership to the organization UNESCO was held this morning in Paris and they granted membership to the Palestinian Authority.

“The Palestinian move is aimed at gaining momentum ahead of a UN Security Council vote in November on whether Palestine should become a full United Nations member state. Membership of Unesco – perhaps best known for its World Heritage Sites – may seem a strange step towards statehood, says the BBC’s Jon Donnison, in Ramallah, but Palestinian leaders see it as part of a broader push to get international recognition and put pressure on Israel. The move comes a month after Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas asked for Palestine to become a full UN member state.The UN Security Council is expected to vote on that bid in November. The United States has said it will use its veto.

107 votes for Palestinian UNESCO membership. 14 against. 49 abstain. US, Canada, Germany voted against Palestinian UNESCO bid; Russia, China, France voted in favor; UK abstained. Palestine gets UNESCO membership. Laughter in auditorium when Israel voted no. Huge applause when it passed.

CNN Reports: “22% of its funding in its regular budget comes from the United States, said Sue Williams of UNESCO’s press office. A spokeswoman for the U.S. Mission to UNESCO said U.S. funding stands at about $80 million annually. “Any recognition of Palestine as a Member State would not only jeopardize the hope for a resumption of direct Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, but (it) would endanger the United States’ contribution to UNESCO,” said an October 13 letter signed by members of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on State and Foreign Operations, which appropriates UNESCO’s U.S. funding.”

The funding could be cut off based on this US provision of U.S. code which states: “No funds authorized to be appropriated by this Act or any other Act shall be available for the United Nations or any specialized agency thereof which accords the Palestine Liberation Organization the same standing as member states.”

I had read last week that the PA also plans to use UNESCO status to lay claim to Israel’s Holy and Historical sites. The American Thinker reported thoroughly on this. In that article, they wrote:

“Although UNESCO has no power to confer statehood, Palestinian admittance to this U.N. body will be a launching pad to attack all Jewish and Christian historical claims to the land of Israel. UNESCO has already been complicit in Palestinian historical revisionism when it voted that two of Judaism’s holiest sites, the Cave of the Patriarchs and Rachel’s Tomb, are not Israel’s heritage sites, but mosques. Palestinians will most likely leverage their UNESCO membership to claim the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem and the Western Wall of the Temple as wholly Palestinian heritage sites. The Palestinian Authority has already issued a paper denying Jewish connection to the Western Wall. Palestinian claims to sacred Jewish sites can’t possibly be based on religious connections. Consider that the Temple Mount is currently being used for picnics and soccer games by Palestinians, and when Palestinians gained control over Joseph’s Tomb, they tried to burn it down — twice. The purpose of laying claim to Jewish holy sites is to erase over 3,000 years of Jewish presence in the land. Denying Jewish history is a stepping stone to denying a Jewish future.”

Very true.

It is interesting that the PA attempted several times before to gain membership to UNESCO and failed. It seems that it passed quite easily today.

Now to prophetic meaning–

The time of the West is declining and the time of the Muslim nations is rising. This is prophesied. The Time of Jacob’s Trouble as it is known (the Tribulation last 7 years) is about Israel. Israel is the hand on God’s prophetic clock. These things must come to pass as it is prophesied that Israel on that last day will stand alone with all her enemies around her.

“A prophecy: The word of the LORD concerning Israel. The LORD, who stretches out the heavens, who lays the foundation of the earth, and who forms the human spirit within a person, declares: “I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that sends all the surrounding peoples reeling. Judah will be besieged as well as Jerusalem. On that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves.” (Zech 12:1-3).

Why? So that they turn to their Messiah, the One whom they rejected but now call upon!

“For I do not want you, brethren, to be uninformed of this mystery, lest you be wise in your own estimation, that a partial hardening has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in; and thus all Israel will be saved; just as it is written, ‘The Deliverer will come from Zion, He will remove ungodliness from Jacob'” (Rom. 11:25-26).

That verse tells us that Jews in Israel will be accepting Jesus as Messiah during the Tribulation.

“And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit[a] of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son.’ (Zechariah 12:10).

What a glorious God we worship. Though rejected for 2000 years, on that Day He will pour out grace. Not mete it out, not dribble it out, but POUR it out upon those who refused to know Him but now clamor for His grace.

The rapidity with which it is all lining up is stunning and more than awe-inspiring. It seems to me to be like a Mack Truck bearing down on a stranded turtle in the middle of the highway. I’m not looking for it. I’m not hoping for it. But if indeed this report is true that there are nukes in Libya; (and with all that yellowcake it was obvious that there likely would be) unstable, Sharia instituting, al-Qaeda flag planting, Libya- prophesied to be so much a part of the war and horror of the last days, then these wars seem more likely than ever to be near to us in time.

Why do we read & study prophecy and stay attuned to the news of the world in relation to it? Because we are commanded to be ready.

“So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.” (Matthew 24:44).

“When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.” (Luke 21:28).

We study these things so we are not surprised.

“But you, brothers, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled.” (1 Thessalonians 54-6).

We study these things so we can tell others.

“We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts.” (2 Peter 1:19)

The Word is more sure than personal experience. The Word is more sure than even the news. The Word is the surest thing there is, the Word IS Jesus:

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. Nuclear weapons found in Libya

We know that massive quantities of yellowcake were found in Libya during the revolution/ousting of Gaddafi. I reported that here on September 27.

Then 4 days ago, Ynet News from Israel reported chemical weapons were found.

‘Chemical weapons in Libya under guard‘
“NTC finds chemical weapons, secures them following death of ousted Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. ‘They are from Gaddafi’s era and are under guard, until they can be handed over,” says NTC official.”

Tonight, Ynet News reports that “banned weapons” have been found.
“Libya’s National Transitional Council chairman Mahmoud Jibril announced that banned weapons have been found in his country, reported Al Arabiya. (Roee Nahmias)”

The Jerusalem Post goes further and reveals that the banned weapons discovered were in fact nuclear weapons.
“The outgoing premier of Libya’s NTC, Mahmoud Jibril said Sunday that nuclear weapons were found in the country, according to the Al Arabiya TV network, Israel Radio reported. Jibril also said that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) will provide further details on the weapons found in the next few days, according to the report.”

I really don’t see how the world will avoid what seems like the prophesied massive wars of the last days in the Middle East within 6 months. Or sooner. It seems to me to be like a Mack Truck bearing down on a stranded turtle in the middle of the highway. . I’m not looking for it. I’m not hoping for it. But if indeed this report is true that there are nukes in Libya; (and with all that yellowcake it was obvious that there likely would be) unstable, Sharia instituting, al-Qaeda flag planting, Libya- prophesied to be so much a part of the war and horror of the last days, then war seems more likely than ever to follow.

"I go to prepare a place for you"

Jesus concluded His ministry with His death on the cross and subsequent ascension to heaven, to be seated at the right hand of the Father. The right hand is illustrative of great strength and power. “Thy right hand, O LORD, is become glorious in power: thy right hand, O LORD, hath dashed in pieces the enemy.” (Exodus 15:6). Being seated denotes a concluded work. When we sit imports honour, as a king sits and his subjects stand. Sitting denotes pleasure, rest from labour and weariness. It evokes safety and security; one who is seated no longer need be on guard. As Gill’s Exposition says, “What adds to the happiness of this is, that it is together with all the saints, and with Christ himself.”

His hands have made the world and the heavens (Isaiah 48:13). His hands have made us (Psalms 73:23). His hands smote enemies. (Exodus 15:6). His hand saves. (Psalms 17:7).

Jesus said to the Jews that they will not see Him again until they cry out to Him (Matthew 23:39). He told the Disciples, “In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. “If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.” (John 14:1-2)

So when Jesus left, He said He would prepare a place. He did not say that He would tell His angels to prepare a place. He didn’t say that He would create a place. He said He would prepare a place. The Greek word for prepare in this verse is hetoimazó, meaning to make ready, to prepare.

Whenever you feel lost, small, storm-tossed, think of the John 14 verse. He goes to prepare a place for us. The God of the Universe whose hands have done so many things and will do so many things, whose hands smite enemies and create worlds, is using His hands to tenderly prepare for our arrival. He is preparing a place for us to dwell. That dwelling will be perfect, having been readied by the Perfect One. We will be partaking of the banquet of His glory forever.

"Non-violent protesters do not deserve to be shot"

There is a Facebook meme going around attached to this photo:

Whenever anything  is promoted that is this inflammatory, so obviously designed both in picture and in word to generate a gut reaction instead of an intellectual response, I go on alert. Because it was associated with Occupy Wall Street, I was downright suspicious.

The meme-promoters likely hope to generate a response along the lines of, “Of course non-violent protesters don’t deserve to be shot! Those bastards! Look what they did!” Well, before jumping into the fray, I needed context.

My initial response is that though this one may seem like a no-brainer to answer ‘yes’, there really are two sides to the story. Many OWS protesters are “violent” in other ways, such as illegally occupying private property, violating zoning rules, illegally using generators, failing to follow proper food handling procedures (putting eaters at risk), consuming or selling illegal drugs, destroying private property, etc. The list is long. I would need to know what this woman was actually doing before I determined whether she “deserved” to be hit with a rubber bullet…

And that is the other thing to note: the word “deserved” implies an emotional judgment is necessary on behalf of the viewer, but of course not on behalf of the law enforcement officer who made the call to fire the bullet.

Within 5 minutes I found that the photo, though titled ‘occupy.jpg’ has nothing to do with the Occupy Wall Street Protests. It was from an event that occurred in 2003: Police Attack California Anti-War Protesters
It is an AP article and here is the original caption of the billet ridden woman:

The sympathy the meme-promoters hope to garner is an imagined scenario of the hapless and innocent protester writing on the ground and screaming in righteous wrath from her injuries. But she looked pretty conscious, sentient, and ambulatory here:

As far as what people “deserve”, no, innocent protesters abiding by the law do not deserve to have excessive force leveled against them. The right of free speech in this country is still a value I hold dear. But by law-abiding people who are not engaged in violence themselves. This article from the 2003 incident describes law-breakers turning violent:

“More than 500 protesters gathered around 6 a.m. at the entrances to APL and Stevedoring Services of America (SSA), two shipping corporations that have military-related U.S. government contracts. Protesters said APL, an Oakland-based company, ships military cargo to Iraq. Seattle-based SSA won a $4.8 million contract last month to handle the aid cargo arriving at the Umm Qasr seaport in Iraq. … Monday’s demonstration was the culmination of four days of anti-war action held around the nation and came on the heels of Saturday’s rally and march in Berkeley and Oakland, during which 9,000 people protested without conflict with police.”

“Danielle Ashford, spokeswoman for the Oakland Police Department, said police officers on Monday opened fire on protesters after warning them to disperse. She said most protesters heeded the command; those who did not, however, were fired on with what she called “less lethal weapons,” including wooden “bullets,” bags filled with small metal balls, and sting balls, which disperse rubber bullets and a minuscule amount of tear gas. Ashford said police force was necessary because protesters refused to disperse and were throwing rocks, metal bolts and small pieces of wood at officers. She added that many protesters climbed on trucks attempting to enter the port gate. “There is a difference between a peaceful protest on Saturday and this one,” she said. “This was a direct action to deliberately shut down the port.”

One commenter on a gun forum said,
“The instant a “demonstration” becomes a “riot”, however (or the instant a single rock/bottle/whatever gets thrown), it’s on like donkeykong and if you’re caught in the middle it just plain sucks to be you (and it’s your own damned fault).”

People, watch out for emotional manipulation, partial, or even false information from the Occupy movement folks. The above is a classic example of propaganda. “Propaganda is a form of communication that is aimed at influencing the attitude of a community toward some cause or position so as to benefit oneself or one’s group. As opposed to impartially providing information, propaganda, in its most basic sense, presents information primarily to influence an audience. Propaganda is often biased, with facts selectively presented (thus possibly lying by omission) to encourage a particular synthesis, or uses loaded messages to produce an emotional rather than rational response to the information presented.”

The “did she deserve to be shot” poster is pure propaganda and that poster exactly fits the definition.

Public opinion is divided on the Occupy Wall Street movement. Many people understand and sympathize that the bankers should not have been bailed out, and the middle class got left behind. But equally, many do not like their illegal activities and believe that protests need to be lawful.

And before you jump in to discussions on social media on this issue, please do a few minutes of research to determine if you are being fed the whole truth. Social media is a great boon to society and is a valuable mechanism of free speech. But it just as easily can be falsified and manipulative. Don’t YOU be manipulated.

Frozen Planet: amazing photos

Earlier today I posted some photos of the results of the latest Coronal Mass Ejection results of hitting earth: a Northern Lights storm that was so vast it was seen in half the states and all the way south to Texas. So at that time, I’d mused on the macro; the lights sparked by the sun so far away in space and our Creator ‘out there.’

But now here is a look at the micro. Our Creator makes small things too! A wonderful series on BBC hosted Sir David Attenborough returns to tv with yet another series of glorious scenery and marvel from our world. This time, it’s the polar regions. Here is a slide show of 19 photos from this latest episodes. Amazing!!

A couple of my favorites, that in my opinion, especially reflect His glory in creativity.

Northern Lights come south for a visit

After completing the lowest minimum, the sun is entering one of the most active maximums in recent times. A burst on Monday hit the earth with a powerful blast and the resulting display was tremendous! The Auroras were seen all the way down to Texas and Alabama.

“A coronal mass ejection hit Earth’s magnetic field on Monday, October 24 at approximately 2pm ET. This enabled the northern lights to be seen as far south as Arkansas, Tennessee, northern Alabama, northern Mississippi and North Carolina. For most, the aurora appeared as a red glow in the northern sky.”

“Auroras were seen or photographed in more than half of all US states including Alabama, Wisconsin, New Mexico, Tennessee, Missouri, Illinois, Nebraska, Kentucky, North Carolina, Indiana, Oklahoma, Kansas, Iowa, Maryland, New York, Montana, Ohio, Colorado, Pennsylvania, Washington, Minnesota, Maine, Michigan, Oregon, Arkansas and California. Many observers, especially in the deep south, commented on the pure red color of the lights they saw. These rare all-red auroras sometimes appear during intense geomagnetic storms. They occur some 300 to 500 km above Earth’s surface and are not yet fully understood.”

“People in the United States are still talking about the spooky red auroras ignited by a CME on Oct. 24th; Northern Lights were sighted as far south as Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Alabama. 48 hours later, the show was over in the USA, but not in Scandinaviia where residual auroras continued to flicker around the Arctic Circle. Norwegian photographer Ole C. Salomonsen took this picture on Oct. 26th:”

Wow, I love auroras. When God set His rainbow in the sky as a covenant, it is sort of like He is painting. (Genesis 9:13). And with the colorful northern lights, it is like He is painting, also.
