Are you on milk, or meat?

“By now, Christian, you should be eating solid food in your walk with Christ. If you have been saved for a while but still regard the bible as too deep, can’t understand it, and don’t get much out if it, you are at risk. How, you ask?

“Warning Against Falling Away”–

“We have much to say about this, but it is hard to explain because you are slow to learn. In fact, though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you the elementary truths of God’s word all over again. You need milk, not solid food! Anyone who lives on milk, being still an infant, is not acquainted with the teaching about righteousness. But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.” (Hebrews 5:11-14)

Because we’re almost to the Days of Noah. In Noah’s day just before the flood, “The Lord saw how great man’s wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time… Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence. God saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways. So God said to Noah, “I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them.” (Gen 6:5;11-14)

Notice the definitive words: “every inclination,” not just some of his inclinations. His heart was evil “all the time,” not just some of the time. “All the people” had corrupted their ways, not just some of the people, or even most of the people, but all (the bible notes the one exception, Noah). Everyone was thinking iniquity and doing iniquity all the time. And it was violent.

Add to that the Nephilim were on earth in those days, the mighty men of old. The fallen angels who had come to earth, seen how beautiful the daughters of men were, and took for themselves them as wives, all that they chose. Their offspring were the Nephilim, giants who were offspring of his unholy union. (Gen 6:4). Things were pretty bad on the earth, then. And it is going to be like that again just prior to this next judgment with the fallen angels bursting in on the world after the rapture and even today are edging ever closer. It will be corrupt, evil, violent and ripe for judgment…except, people will not know that judgment is coming-

“As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark;” (Mt 24:37)

“For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect—if that were possible.” (Matthew 24:24)

They will be carrying on in their orgies and their revelries, probably believing that times are bad but they will get better someday. But they won’t get better someday.

Todd Strandberg, founder of Rapture Ready.com said that most of the credible prophecy teachers are in their upper seventies. I know Hal Lindsey is 80. They have been studying prophecy for the better part of their lifetimes, and they know what’s what. All the prophecy teachers I read say that we are in the prelude stage to rapid fulfillment of the prophesied Tribulation Time and very near the rapture. Jack Kelley summed it up thus: “For what it’s worth, I believe the world is experiencing the prelude to the seal judgments right now. They haven’t begun yet but the conditions necessary for them to happen are rapidly being met. It won’t be long until everything’s in place.” Rapture Ready website is twenty-three years old, and Todd’s latest editorial is titled “While there is still time.” Hal Lindsey has been studying prophecy for 50 years, said in his latest video report, “We have some some interesting things to talk to you about tonight. There are some unique things happening in the history of the world…”

To sum up, we are in the prelude to an evil and corrupt time, when abominable demons will be stalking the people of the world, and delusion will be the order of the day. And you are still on milk? The last line in the Hebrews verse I quoted above says: “But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.” Note the phrase, ‘who by constant use’. This means that you have to constantly be in the Word to be trained. Trained for what? To distinguish good from evil. Do you want to stumble around like a wobbly toddler at risk of being deceived? I know I don’t. I don’t drive around on threadbare tires, I don’t cross the street without looking both ways, I don’t eat five-day old fish. Those are simple precautions we take every day. And yet the Lord of the Universe told us that these end days will be the most evil, ever, and gave us a bible to protect ourselves and to be raised up in training, and we act like reading it is the most inconvenient thing we can ever do.

Get on the meat!

By the numbers: wars, earthquakes on the rise

When I witness about the imminence of the end of the end time, many non-believers say to me that the end time is a crock, that all things are going on the same and will continue to do so. I get that a LOT. They say that there have always been wars. There have always been earthquakes. There have always been natural disasters. That these are unreliable indicators of the end time because they always have occurred and they always will occur.

Jesus said that unbelievers would say that. We’re told “They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” (2 Peter 3:4)

Other say that people have been saying ‘it is the end time since, like, forever, and that it isn’t happening now and it never will.’ First, just because something happened yet doesn’t mean it never will. Second, the end time is actually the period from Jesus’ ascension to the rapture of the church, then the wrath begins (Rev 6:16) for the purpose of judging and punishing unbelievers (Dan 9:24). The period of which Jesus was speaking will be characterized as like having birth pangs (Mt 24:8). The indicators that we are at the end of the end time will be as what happens in a birth, the intensity and the frequency of the pangs will grow until they not only are noticeable but they almost can’t be endured.

But what do the numbers say? Are earthquakes increasing? Are volcanic eruptions more prevalent now? Are there more wars? The table below is from data from USGS. At that link you can search for earthquakes by date and by magnitude. I searched for global earthquakes between each magnitude, by year. The total is at the top of the page. I then compared this number with the USGS average number of expected earthquakes of any given magnitude. The numbers in red show numbers of eq’s that exceed the USGS’s own standard.

One disclaimer USGS makes downplaying the fact that earthquakes are on the rise, is that there have been more eq’s that they can locate each year, due to better technology. However, I tend to discredit that explanation because the data as presented does not show decade advancement, but year over year. Are there really THAT many more seismographs in place in 2010 than in 2009? I don’t think so…

The graph below is of volcanic eruptions by decade since 1850. The data is from the Smithsonian’s Global Volcanism Program. Note that the last bar, 2010, is as of Oct 23, and at 62 eruptions is almost meeting the previous data set, with a quarter of the year to go.

John MacArthur preached on the end time verses in Luke 21. He cited the Encyclopedia of Wars as a source and offered the following numbers. He said that in the 1000 years prior to Christ’s coming, there were 170 recorded wars. This number excludes skirmishes, conflicts, disturbances, etc. In the 1000 years after Jesus, there were 50 wars. In the 500 years after that, 100 wars. In the 300 years after that, 250 wars. In the last 200 years, there have been 500 wars. And in the last four years (not depicted on graph) there have been 20 wars.

We know from Revelation (13:15-16; 6:5-6) that there will be a global economic restructuring, resulting in deep poverty. I found this data interesting, and sad. Our local newspaper reported on the number of legally required advertisements of foreclosures in their paper over the last five years.

It seems clear to me that the data indicates increases in the things Jesus said would occur. He said in Matthew 24:3-8, “As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,” they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.”

I do not need data to support His predictions. He is the Planner, this is His plan and He will see his plans and His promises and His prophesies come to pass. But for the unsaved’s sake, who demand quantifiable data, I say to them, Jesus declares it will be so. And so it is.

Obama basks in Taj Mahal luxury while his servants (us) support him

Anyone else think this is excessive? The Economic Times of India reports:

“Since Obama is expected to arrive in the afternoon on November 6, and will travel by road to the Taj Mahal Hotel, the entire stretch from airport to the hotel will be under heavy security. The officer said, “There will be no vehicular movement on Western Express Highway at that time. Traffic on roads leading up to the highway will also be stopped. All buildings flanking the entire stretch will be sanitised. However, there is no threat from the snipers as the President will travel in a bullet-proof car with 4.5-inch thick sheets, which are impenetrable for any gun.” Obama’s personal security staff itself will be huge, and it has already started making its own arrangements in Mumbai. “A team of secret service agents has already arrived, and has surveyed the areas of his stay and the roads and places on his itinerary,” the officer said.”

“To ensure fool-proof security, the President’s team has booked the entire the Taj Mahal Hotel, including 570 rooms, all banquets and restaurants. Since his security contingent and staff will comprise a huge number, 125 rooms at Taj President have also been booked, apart from 80 to 90 rooms each in Grand Hyatt and The Oberoi hotels. The NCPA, where the President is expected to meet representatives from the business community, has also been entirely booked. The officer said, “Obama’s contingent is huge. There are two jumbo jets coming along with Air Force One, which will be flanked by security jets. There will be 30 to 40 secret service agents, who will arrive before him. The President’s convoy has 45 cars, including the Lincoln Continental in which the President travels.”

“Since Obama will stay in a hotel that is on sea front, elaborate coastal security arrangements have been made by the US Navy in consonance with the Indian Navy and the Coast Guard. “There will be US naval ships, along with Indian vessels, patrolling the sea till about 330-km from the shore. This is to negate the possibility of a missile being fired from a distance,” the officer said. The President will be accompanied by his chefs, not because he would not like to savour Indian cuisine, but to ensure his food is not spiked.”

TWO jumbo jets in addition to AF1? Plus security jets? Over 600 people traveling with him? Did we elect a king? I think Obama thinks so. It is an axiom: profligate spending always collapses an empire. The one-minute video tells it all.

The gap between what leaders say and what they do is becoming wider and more bold. Obama pushes austerity measures and belt-tightening, yet goes on more jaunts spending to greater excess than any other president, ever. The verses describing the false economic system as represented by the real city Babylon (and also the metaphor of Babylon as a whorish economy) in Rev 18:1-3 come to mind here —

“After this I saw another angel coming down from heaven. He had great authority, and the earth was illuminated by his splendor. With a mighty voice he shouted:

“Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great!
She has become a home for demons
and a haunt for every evil spirit,
a haunt for every unclean and detestable bird.
For all the nations have drunk
the maddening wine of her adulteries.
The kings of the earth committed adultery with her,
and the merchants of the earth grew rich from her excessive luxuries.” 
The gap between rich and poor, caring and uncaring,  luxury and starvation will only widen in the days and months ahead.

It is very hard to watch the wicked prosper. It is a hard thing to listen to the profane hurl blasphemies against our Spotless Jesus and then see them rise to even higher heights. But Job discoursed against the prosperity of the wicked, that ultimately God settles with them via secret judgments and has reserved them for future judgments. Patience…the blasphemous and the profane will fall. Remember this as you see Obama’s excesses. He will face the Almighty one day, and nothing we can say or do will compete with the just words from the Ancient of Days. As our own ire rises in anger against wickedness in all places, remember to sink even lower into His arms, retreating from bitterness and relying only on Him and His perfect justice.

I just have to rely ever more on His strength and promises to step back, & remain calm as I see His name trampled further through the mud and the wicked prospering and the poor falling. He is in control and nothing I can say or do will come close to the wicked having to face Him on judgment day. Lord, help my resentment against political abuse and lack of compassion on the burdened poor!! 🙂

What comes after life?

“As a pastor, I’m often called upon when life “vanishes like a mist.” One of the most powerful examples I’ve seen of this was Stan Gerlach, a successful businessman who was well known in the community. Stan was giving a eulogy at a memorial service when he decided to share the gospel. At the end of his message, Stan told the mourners, “You never know when God is going to take your life. At that moment, there’s nothing you can do about it. Are you ready?” Then Stan sat down, fell over, and died. His wife and sons tried to resuscitate him, but there was nothing they could do – just as Stan had said a few minutes earlier.”

“Therefore everyone who confesses Me before men, I will also confess him before My Father who is in heaven. “But whoever denies Me before men, I will also deny him before My Father who is in heaven.” Matthew 10:32-33

“[During Stan’s memorial service] I asked everyone to imagine what it must have felt like for Stan. One moment, he was at a memorial service saying to the crowd, “This is who Jesus is!” The next, he was before God hearing Jesus say, “This is who Stan Gerlach is!” One second he was confessing Jesus; a second later, Jesus was confessing him! It happens that quickly. And it could happen to any of us. In the words of Stan Gerlach, “Are you ready?” (pg. 46-47 of Crazy Love by Francis Chan)

I read that today on my lunch break. Just that bit. I stopped dead in my tracks when I read it, turning the book over on the table and staring vacantly off into space. It moved me deeply to think of Stan’s glorious death. To have the last words on your lips be a witness for Jesus and of Jesus. And then I began to ponder the flimsiness of life. We are truly fragile. Though we’re built sturdily, there are a million ways to die and death could come at any time. The title of Chan’s chapter is even “You might not finish this chapter.”

Before I was saved, I used to wonder about the hereafter. It is a natural question, ‘is there more?’ What comes next? Do we really putrefy into dust? But what’s with that white light everyone always talks about? There is a new movie coming out by Clint Eastwood, directing. It’s called “Hereafter” and it supposedly delves into these questions. The film depicts three strangers, all curiously connected with tantalizing glimpses of an afterlife, and whose stories intertwine by the end. The film doesn’t reach any conclusions (which is why it is being universally praised) but it does reportedly leave people curiously uneasy about what comes next.

The New York Times reviewed the movie, its reviewer saying “though if anyone could make me believe in ghosts, it would be Clint Eastwood. And the afterlife itself remains, throughout the film, a vague, conjectural place, a zone of speculation rather than a freshly discovered and surveyed continent. The fuzzy digital ghosts that occasionally flutter across the screen are more symbolic placeholders than literal apparitions. Something seems to be out there, and cinematic technology provides an available shorthand to indicate its presence.”

How convenient. A Clint Eastwood movie answers the eternal questions. The bible IS the shorthand to the eternal, providing all the answers about the hereafter, and raises the questions you didn’t even know you had. Now, the Hereafter movie does discuss the white light, which is a phenomenon that many people of all different cultures seemed to have experienced. We all assume that the white light is God or is of God and most people describe feeling an additional feeling of peace and joy. The Hereafter movie does that too. This is, of course, false, because any person who is not a forgiven sinner and a follower of Jesus will not be in His Light after death. Yet so many people are consistent with their descriptions of what happens after…I found that another movie did provide me with a satisfying and logical explanation as to why so many people seem to return from near death experiences having seen this white light.

The movie was called “Escape from Hell”. In it, a Doctor wanted to KNOW for sure what came after death, so he injected himself with a drug cocktail and after calling his colleague, told his colleague he would only have 10 minutes to be revived. After he succumbed to death and before he was revived by his colleague, he experienced the white light. He was in a tunnel and sliding down what felt to him to be an eternal destiny of peace and joy. However, the white light shortly faded and the tunnel soon forked, and he began sliding inexorably toward hell.

Of course, this was only a fictional depiction, and the white light experience could easily simply be a delusion sent by satan. But I thought it made a kind of sense. God created everything, and it makes sense that His light would be present in the transition from corporeal to spirit. The movie was effective at examining the eternal question, what comes after? And being a Christian movie, it resolved those questions biblically. For Stan Gerlach, he knew what came after, because he was born again. Even as the words he’d spoken last were still hanging in the air, he was instantly in the presence of the Lord.

Your death or the death of a family member or friend could come at any time. At the moment we breathe our last, it is too late. Many people are fence-sitters, saying ‘I’ll wait until I approach death and then I’ll decide.” First, many people do not get that chance to see death changing lanes ahead and coming toward you. Often death comes suddenly and unexpectedly, like it did for Stan Gerlach. Secondly, do you know what you need to decide?

Your sins keep you from entering heaven. God hates sin. (“The boastful shall not stand before Your eyes, You hate all who do iniquity.” Psalm 5:5) You need to accept that Jesus was the sinless Christ who died as the atoning sacrifice for your sins and who rose again. You sin. I sin. Every human sins, and those sins (wrongs) are an abomintion to God. His Holy Hereafter does not contain sin and if you contain sin you will not go there.

Clint Eastwood’s Hereafter contains unforgiven sinners talking with the dead to reassure us that the white light is peaceful and all who die will enjoy it. That is a lie straight from satan.

Back to Stan Gerlach. He was ready. Are you ready? What will your hereafter contain?

Satan’s success at dehumanizing us. Plus, a dancing robot

Remember this video from 1983? Robert Palmer, “Addicted to Love”. He used five women tho looked alike, made them up exactly the same, dressed them identically, and for the video’s purpose,  told them to act like mannequins. The video became THE iconic video of the 80s.

Though the video became an icon of the ’80s, using women made up to look like mannequins was controversial. Mannequins have no free will, no choice, no personality and are interchangeable. But God gave us choices, a voice, distinct personalities, and free will to choose Him. Satan hates that.

Almost thirty years later, the live women acting as mannequins in videos have been replaced in dance routines with: HRP-4C Dance…  “We know her as a pretty creepy cyber-model, a bridezilla, and a singer. And now cybernetic human robot HRP-4C, brain child of Japan’s National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), has learned how to dance, too. The humanoid was often criticized for just being able to move her upper body, but now it’s clear that AIST has improved HRP-4C dramatically in recent months. She actually does a pretty good job on stage, singing and dancing quite realistically at the same time. Below is her performance at the Digital Content Expo 2010:”

HRP-4C is a robotic woman just unveiled to reporters in Tsukuba City (northeast of Tokyo) Japan. This cybernetic human sells for about $200,000. Developed at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, the HRP-4C female robot is able walk and follow some basic commands. The robotic woman is about the same size as an average Japanese young woman, at a height of 158 centimeters; it weighs just 43 kilograms (including battery). Thirty motors in the body help it to walk and move about; eight motors power facial expressions. What did someone invent a robot-woman for? I don’t even want to know.

What makes us human? In the literal sense, God made us. Rev. 4:11 says, “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.” Why did He make us? He made us to have fellowship with Him. Adam and Eve walked in the garden with Him, receiving all they needed from Him to know about His expectations, His living standards, directions, and love from Him directly.

Satan hates that. He hates humans because of our special and unique relationship with Him. Though angels are created beings of God, who are above us in the celestial hierarchy (Ps 8:5; Hebrews 2:7) Not that he did not have the same opportunity to have a relationship as close as Adam’s with God, he did and he blew it. Ezekiel 28:14 says. “You [Lucifer] were the anointed cherub who covers, And I placed you there. You were on the holy mountain of God; You walked in the midst of the stones of fire. You were blameless in your ways From the day you were created Until unrighteousness was found in you.” The thought is, Lucifer was a guardian of God’s throne, that is what the phrase ‘you were the anointed cherub who covers’ may mean- a ceremonial guardian of the Holy God on His Holy throne. Can’t get any closer to Him than that.

But iniquity was found in satan, as he came to be called, and perhaps his closeness with God was his undoing, since He decided he wanted to BE God. By by now his hatred of God is total. His hatred of anything God loves is also total.

Since we humans are His glorious creation, satan hates us and would like nothing better than to un-create us. Since he physically can’t, he has done his best to destroy us in other ways. Abortion, of course, is a handy way to rid the world of innocents before they are even born. Wars are another. Weapons of mass destruction are also one way to destroy humans, and infringe on our humanity in the process.

In another less direct way, satan has been gradually bringing us to a state of dehumanization through robotics, mechanization, and automation. As long as humans are not needed at particular points of certain processes, our minds begin to accept the possibility that humans are expendable. So we now have genetic selection, euthanasia, triage on a regular basis rather than in war situations.

Even the language we use for death is dehumanizing. We water down death and killing with euphemisms. Collateral damage is a euphemism for civilian deaths. It’s not a baby, it’s a fetus. We execute people, we don’t kill them in the name of the law. Genocidal elimination of people from racial or national backgrounds is called Ethnic Cleansing. It’s all part of satan’s dehumanizing process. 

Sin dehumanizes us. Dehumanzing means “to deprive of human qualities such as individuality, compassion, or civility: or to render mechanical and routine.” From the physical and spiritual closeness Adam and Eve with God we have fallen far. We now watch videos through laptop screens of dancing robots who are not even human. Where is God in all that?? Removing our humanness is another attack on God, and us, His children.

Readers, guard your language if it creeps toward the dehumanizing. Guard your toys if they remove you from personal relationships. Guard your mind as it accepts new technologies. “The definition of human nature is it is the sum of qualities and traits shared by all humans. From a Christian perspective the definition of human nature centers around man’s free will (choice) and his relationship to God.” (source).

Robots can’t do that.

Atheist gives sermon at Westminster Abbey

Julian Baggini, atheist, was invited to give a sermon this week at Westminster Abbey. Goodness, the world has fallen. Here is an excerpt of his post-sermon commentary, published in the Guardian UK:

“Last Monday, I delivered an atheist “sermon” from the pulpit of Westminster Abbey. It was surprising enough that the chaplain of Westminster School had invited me to give a “thought for the day” to the assembled students, even more so when he suggested I talked about why I was an atheist.” …”But there are also lots of atheists like me. We simply do not believe in God because we see no good reason to do so. To invite us into the citadels of faith and ask us to explain what we believe is therefore not to bring the enemy though the gate, simply because we are not the enemy.” …”I would suggest that a far greater enemy to the kind of liberal Anglicanism that has prevailed in the Church of England, custodian of Westminster Abbey, would be a biblical literalist. But I do not imagine that the decision to allow such a person to talk in Westminster Abbey would raise as many eyebrows as the decision to let an atheist do so.”

And there we have it. People who believe in the bible are more dangerous than atheists, or liberals. Our wonderful bible tells us that this condition would prevail. We were told that “First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires.” (2 Peter 3:3). Peter uses the phrase ‘first of all,’ indicating that the condition he is about to describe is primary and should be well-remembered and focused upon. It will be prevalent throughout the end days. In the verse immediately prior to his mention of the mockers and scoffers, Peter said that it was the prophets of old, and Jesus Himself who urge us to remember that our beliefs will be mocked and scoffed at. Peter said, “I want you to recall the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets and the command given by our Lord and Savior through your apostles.” His statement about mockers is not only next, but he points to it as the first thing we should remember. “First of all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires.” And then Peter launches into an exhortation on other conditions that will be prevalent in the world, which continues for 18 verses.

Jude also reminds us of Peter’s words: “In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.” (Jude 1:18).

The mocking is not toward all Christians. It is only to ‘bible literalists” who have a ‘blind faith’ and who are ‘dogmatic.’ That’s me. Or at least that is what the atheists call me, because I do believe the bible literally and my faith cannot be shaken. If that describes you too, take good cheer. Peter gives encouragement: “what kind of people ought you to be? You ought to live holy and godly lives as you look forward to the day of God and speed its coming. So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.” (2 Peter3:11b-13).

Believers who are liberals have conformed to the world to a degree that atheists find comfortable, or at least, tolerable. It is only the ‘bible literalists’ who cause such angst for the atheist. It is because we speak of judgment, standards for entering heaven, and punishment for actions chosen during this life. Non-believers do not want to think that they will be held to account for the choices they make, and thus, to them, we are the enemy.

In addition to mocking and scoffing, Jesus warned us of another condition the world will be in: believers will be lukewarm. They are not cold, like atheists. They are not hot, like bible literalists. They are lukewarm, like the folks at Westminster Abbey. They will be liberals who pervert the gospel to more closely match the culture, making it more comfortable for everybody. However, that comfort will not last long, because at judgment day, Jesus will say to them:

“I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth.”

Mr Baggini concludes, “I see my allies as being the community of the reasonable, and my enemies as the community of blind faith and dogmatism. Any religion that is not unreasonable and not dogmatic should likewise recognise that it has a kinship with atheists who hold those same values.”

Mr Baggini made a true statement here. Jesus said that those who truly follow Him, the world will hate. If the world does not hate you, then it means you are OF the world and at some future point, Jesus will spit you out. Jesus said, “If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you. “If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you.” (John 15:18-19). Notice Mr Baggini did not excoriate ALL Christians. He refers only to the ones who are dogmatic and unreasonable. In other words, the ones who believe all that pesky bible stuff, all of it. He says he and they do not share the same values. Sharing ‘kinship of values’ between atheists and liberal Christians just means means the liberal (non)Christians are lukewarm and in very real danger of being tossed out by Jesus, the one they profess to follow. “”Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and do not do what I say?” (Luke 6:46)

Last, Mr Baggini mentions the “enemy” several times, even in the few paragraphs I excerpted. He says atheists are not the enemy. But James says to the world-conforming Christians, “You adulteresses, do you not know that friendship with the world is hostility toward God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God?” (James 4:4) And of the atheist who denies God, “Who is the liar but the one who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This is the antichrist, the one who denies the Father and the Son.” (1 John 2:22). The Westminster Abbye people are letting in the spirit of antichrist into their church, all in a vain effort to find “kinship” and to be accepted. They will find acceptance in the world and rejection by Jesus. Woe to them!

I am insulted that a church would invite an atheist to give any sort of speech, or ‘sermon’ as the author characterized it. I am more sad that so many will realize their mistake too late. It is not good to be too cold, and it is not good to be only warm. It is only good to be HOT, hot for all the truths of Jesus and all that He is and all that He does for us. Mostly, be hot for Him who died for us, loves us, and calls us His friend. Only by standing on His rock will they find that acceptance by the world is vain, and not to be traded for the love and warmth of a Savior who Lives.

This UFO thing is really getting out of hand: Now it’s El Paso

On the heels of the UN appointing an Alien Ambassador, and of military types forging ET First Contact rules, and of the UFO (or was it a hoax? Or balloons?) over NYC this week, we have another vivid sighting of weird lights, this time in a night sky in East El Paso. They could be planes at a night air show. Or not. You decide:

I’ve reported on ET/UFO events here, here, here, here, here, but most importantly in my three-part series The Great UFO Deception in Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3. As you can see, I am serious about the UFO/Alien issue. No, I am not looking forward to greeting ET and turning on his heart light. I do not believe in the traditional representation of aliens as either benign botanists from pleasant planets, nor are they Mother Aliens hunting and killing Sigourney Weaver types. They are fallen angels and they work for satan. I believe that fallen angels are now deluding the world with their anti-gravity defying lights and false wonders, and will be masquerading as aliens who will swoop in and appear to us in a time of chaos to be a superior race in whom we should trust and cooperate. They will point to their leader as the one with the answers and that one will be the antichrist. Read the above links for scriptures and further explanations as to my stance. That they are increasing in appearance and in frequency and in duration is a sign, perhaps, that their irruption is imminent. Which could mean that the rapture is also imminent. For now, the people of El Paso are scratching their heads. And if those are planes in an air show, I’m a monkey’s uncle.

Bedbugs biting Americans from coast to coast

“Numbers of bed bugs are doubling each year in the US, UK, and Europe. Did you know that bed bugs Bite?”

Bedbugs are back?! Why are bedbugs back? What does it mean? More on that in a minute, but first, the news:

Bedbugs have been plaguing people all across the United States lately. Thought of as a quaint and bygone problem of the Middle Ages, bedbugs are an insect that has been around for centuries, and carry the stigma of an unclean house. Since the bedbug infestation has shown up in Manhattan’s Lincoln Center, in NYC fru-fru stores such as Bloomingdale’s, and in Fifth Avenue apartments and dorm rooms of Ivy League Colleges and private schools, the stigma is particularly hard on the social upper crust to get over.

For some reason, there has been a huge surge in bedbug problems all across America over the last year or so, but it has been only the last few months that the outcry has been significant. Pest control places can’t keep up. In a MyFox NY report we read that “Action Pest Control has been working night and day to rid clients of the pests. “The calls have just been out of control,” APC president John Russell said.”

The infestation has been reported in Maine, where one case closed a school, and businesses report a surge in frantic requests just as in New York City.

In the American Midwest, the Resurgence of an age-old pest is driving Chicago buggy. In the south, in Georgia, “Bedbugs, on a comeback, pester locals.” In Virginia, “hotel chains, private residences and at least one apartment building have had recent reports of the pests” and in Baltimore, MD  we are reminded us that bed bugs are “a pest once nearly eradicated in the United States. The recent comeback has left exterminators scratching their heads and Americans scratching everything else.”

I’ll be the first to say that I don’t know what a bedbug outbreak means. At least from an end time standpoint, the bedbug issue isn’t one that currently seems to be a precursor to Luke 21:11, “There will be great earthquakes, famines and pestilences in various places, and fearful events and great signs from heaven. When we think of pestilences, or plagues, we normally think of the usual plagues: locusts, bubonic, or the flu. That’s what pestilences are. Definitions on the web range from a “usually fatal epidemic disease, especially bubonic plague,” “any epidemic disease with a high death rate.” Bed bugs do not qualify as a pestilential plague, unless, of course, you are the person being bitten every night.

From a psychological point of view, the one being bitten experiences all sorts of reactions. We read of Dana Strong in Chicago, who “lies awake every night wondering if bedbugs are crawling up her bed and onto her sheets. She scratches imaginary bites and tosses and turns on her new mattress, which has a plastic cover to keep out the bloodsucking parasites. “It’s horrible,” Strong said. “I haven’t slept in weeks.” Or of Deirdre Strout in Portland Maine who “was about to inspect an apartment for bedbugs Monday afternoon when a woman who was passing by saw Strout’s Atlantic Pest Solutions van, stopped the car and jumped out. The woman, bags under her eyes from lack of sleep, pleaded with Strout to help her get rid of her own bedbug infestation. It’s like that all day long, Strout said. “Portland’s got a heck of a pocket going,”…

People jumping out of their cars to accost Pest Control workers and begging for help to rid their mattress of the bloodsucking bite-monger? Pretty severe. I imagine a nation of zombie-people plagued with no sleep, irritable, creeped out by blood sucking bugs crawling over them as they lay down on infested mattresses. The psychological effects of being crawled over and feasted upon are insidious, according to this article, based on a study by the Mayo Clinic:

“Bedbug victims can find the mental effects of infestation more insidious and longer-lasting than the physical ones. Along with her three college roommates, Megan McNeil of North Cambridge, Mass., went through the same arduous process Alyssa did to rid their four-bedroom apartment of bedbugs last month. “Our exterminator was great. He definitely talked me down from the ledge,” said McNeil, 23, who graduated from Emerson College, near Boston, last spring. “I think the worst damage bedbugs do is psychological. You will never look at hotel rooms or secondhand furniture the same way again.”

But God is creative and His thoughts are not our thoughts and His ways are not our ways. He is 19 million steps ahead of us and some how, some way, the bedbug infestation will combine with something else down the road. Or not, maybe it is just something small but significantly aggravating enough to remind us that we do not control nature, nor are we separate from it, that He is in control. One other definition of pestilences is, “a pernicious and malign influence that is hard to get rid of” and in that case, bed bugs definitely qualify!

College co-ed ranks her many lovers, her report escapes to the internet

The world is getting more immoral every day. We all know that. The generation that decried women beach-going in public at all in the 1900s thought that the immorality couldn’t get any worse. The generation that saw dresses rise above the knee in the 1920’s thought that the immorality couldn’t get any worse. The generation that saw bikinis arrive in the 1940s thought that the immorality couldn’t get any worse. The generation that saw free love and communes with various sex partners in the 1960s thought that the immorality couldn’t get any worse. The generation that saw homosexuality come out to public acceptance and gay high officials elected to represent us in the 1980s thought that the immorality couldn’t get any worse.

Well, it’s worse. A LOT worse. It is not only the actions of people getting more publicly immoral, but the lack of shame that is offensive. Some of these kind of acts are even celebrated.

I’m thinking of the unfortunate Duke University senior who slept her way through college and then made a comprehensive report ranking and describing her encounters. Though she only emailed it to three of her friends, it soon appeared on websites across the globe.

“Karen Owen made the ‘unofficial senior thesis’ on her sex life with athletes at Duke University in North Carolina and originally emailed it to three of her friends. But the project spread to the university’s entire 14,000 student body and from there on to websites across the globe. In the list, written in the form of a 42-slide PowerPoint presentation, Miss Owen rates 13 of the men she slept with – mainly from the university lacrosse team – out of 10 and created a bar graph charting their sexual prowess. The project leaves little to the imagination and describes her sexual encounters in the university library during finals week, showers, on a balcony, in cars and while drunk.In one of the entries, she said: ‘In my blackout state, still managed to crawl into bed with a Duke athlete.’ “

There are so many sad things to ponder in this one instance of immorality. Her promiscuity. Her drunkenness. Her self-absorption (making a 42-page power point slide based on comprehensive notes is a LOT of self-absorption pondering one’s pleasure). And instances like Ms Owen’s immoral lifestyle display are ongoing in every corner of the globe every minute of the day. How terrible are the times! They are terrible not only for us who have to watch the destruction of lives and hearts by this immoral behavior, but worse, we know that such actions hurt themselves. God said, “Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body. (1 Cor 6:18)”

God has a standard of morality to which He expects adherence. Sexual activity before marriage is a sin, sexual activity outside of marriage while married is a sin, sexual activity with same-sex partners is a sin at any time, and certainly drunkenness, lewdness, gossip, and impropriety are addressed in the bible also.

Some might say that those were ancient times that the bible was written and since culture has changed, we have to get with the program and allow that such standards and godly expectations are outdated. Not at all. Do you know why that argument holds NO water? Because God is unchanging. Since He is unchanging, therefore His standards for morality are unchanging. Cultures change, yes, but His standards do not. “I the Lord do not change.” (Mal.3:6). “Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today, and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8).

Some might say that those were Old Testament times and when the New Testament came, things were different. On the contrary. The NT speaks of morality often, specifically sexual immorality. There were even times when the Apostles referred to Old Testament judgments for immorality that were going to be repeated in the future. Peter said in 2 Pet 2:6 “if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly;”

In other places in the New Testament it is written of immorality:

  • For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person–such a man is an idolater–has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. (Ephesians 5:5)
  • See that no one is sexually immoral, or is godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest son. (Hebrews 12:16)
  • Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood…(Revelation 22:15). 
  • And also in 1 Cor 5:9; Prov 6:24;  1 Cor 6:9; 1 Thess 4:7; and so on.

It is clear that Ms Owen’s behavior (and others who are just as immoral) are far from striving to keep God’s standards. We have free will while on earth to do as we want, but God judges all behavior. He will judge Ms Owen and others for failure to keep His holy standards in mind or at least repent of their failures. “for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.” (Hebrews 13:4b)

Folks these days do not like to think that they will be judged. They like to think that they can do what they want with no consequence. But there are consequences and there is judgment. How soon that judgment will  come only God knows, but it is coming. Though I opened this essay with a short history lesson on how each generation thinks theirs has sunk the lowest, I do believe ours is the generation that Jesus was speaking of when He said in Matthew 24:37, “As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.” From Genesis 6:5 we know that the condition of the world in the days of Noah was evil and men’s thoughts were only of evil continually. Just imagine how evil and immoral the world will be after the Holy Spirit in His restraining ministry leaves the earth at the rapture. (2 Thess 2:7)

Ms Owen said, “Speaking after it was made public, she told The News Of Today: ‘I regret it with all my heart. I would never intentionally hurt the people that are mentioned on that.’ Well I’m glad she regrets it and I’m glad she recognized that people got hurt. I hope that someday she repents, not just regrets, and she comes to the realization that fleeing toward God’s standards will yield her the best of all things and most important, that she will no longer be hurting herself.

UK primary school holds UFO drill…

Not five minutes after I post an essay about how the scientists, governments, and people are seeing more and more  UFO’s, I find that a primary school in the UK held a ‘UFO drill so the children could learn how to secure an alien crash scene and then ‘properly investigate.’ I am not making this up:

Sandford Primary School pupils were amazed to discover that aliens had landed last Wednesday, and set out to investigate. As part of the school’s creative curriculum and “Big write” project, PC Steve Church and PCSO Emma Wright of Avon and Somerset Police were on hand to show the children how to properly investigate the UFO crash site. The imaginary invasion was planned to engage the pupils with a live situation and encourage creative writing Teacher and organiser Victoria Shepherd said: “The children didn’t know what was going on. “As they approached the crash site we could see how amazed and perplexed they were. It was a fantastic first reaction “PCSO Wright and PC Church were brilliant. They helped the children secure the scene and talked about what to do in an emergency, how they gathered evidence, how to interview witnesses etc.
