Brimstone is in the air…

In this post, The Language of God: fire and brimstone, I made the connection between brimstone (sulfur) and the increase in volcanic eruptions, and the BP spill in the Gulf of Mexico. Biblically, God has used fire and brimstone to warn and punish. He has threatened to use fire and brimstone to punish. He has threatened to use fire and brimstone to punish (Revelation). It is part of God’s vocabulary to us humans. In that post, I’d said that one of the vocabulary words that God uses is His promise of judgment through fire and brimstone, and one of the byproducts of the spill in the Gulf is hydrogen sulfide, which is Sulfur, which is Brimstone!

When the people of the Gulf smell that distinctive “rotten egg” smell, it is sulfur, or brimstone, and they have been smelling it. People have been getting sick. Now the Louisiana Environmental Action Network has released its analysis of air monitoring test results by the Environmental Protection Agency. The EPA’s air testing data comes from Venice, a coastal community 75 miles south of New Orleans in Louisiana’s Plaquemines Parish. Hydrogen sulfide has been detected at concentrations more than 100 times greater than the level known to cause physical reactions in people. Among the health effects of hydrogen sulfide exposure are eye and respiratory irritation as well as nausea, dizziness, confusion and headache.

The concentration threshold for people to experience physical symptoms from hydrogen sulfide is about 5 to 10 parts per billion. But as recently as last Thursday, the EPA measured levels at 1,000 ppb. Hydrogen sulfide levels are normally 5-10 pts per billion allowed. Tests in the Gulf now show readings are 1000-2000 pts per billion.

By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths. (Revelation 9:18)

 But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all. (Luke 17:29)

Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: this shall be the portion of their cup. (Psalm 11:6)

And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, making them an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly; (2 Peter 2:6)

It could not be any clearer…a sudden explosion in the Gulf, a perplexing problem too big for man to solve, and wafting brimstone in the air over the wicked and ungodly, and surely that is what America has become, wicked and ungodly.

However, His promises to take His children away to be with Him where He is, is as good as gold. The entire issue of brimstone exists on the ungodly because they refuse to repent. That means turn from sin and be broken and sorry for the bad things we do, which in reality are against God. All a person needs to do is ask Him to forgive the sins they have committed and make Him the Lord of your life, believing in Him as risen Savior. He loves you! He loves all of us! He wants no one to perish! You can rest secure in the promises of Jesus and know that at the moment at which only God knows, we will be raptured away from the tanking economy, the chemicals, the violence, the perversity of this world to dwell with Him in glory! I hope you pray that prayer, seeking repentance. The time draws nigh…

Is the earth cracking up?

During the flood that is described in Genesis 6, mountains were raised up and valleys were made deeper to hold the enormous quantities of water generated in the Great Flood. Earth’s land masses have been pushed apart to make the current continents and islands. The earth as it looks now is not how it looked in the beginning, and it is not how it will look after it is returned to its original condition. In the latter part of the Tribulation God uses the massive natural disasters to not only judge the inhabitants of the earth, but to begin the transformation process in returning the earth to its pre-flood condition. In one example:

And there was a great earthquake, such as there had not been since man came to be upon the earth, so great an earthquake was it, and so mighty. The great city was split into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. … And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. (Rev 16:18b-19a, 20)

It not so inconceivable that now, in these end times, the prophesied transformation process is beginning. The February 8.8 earthquake at Chile was so great it might have shortened earth’s days and tilted its axis. “A large quake shifts massive amounts of rock and alters the distribution of mass on the planet. The massive earthquake that struck Chile on Saturday may have shifted Earth’s axis and created shorter days, scientists at NASA say.”

The notion that there could be an earthquake so great that it shifts earth and makes it wobble, is intuitively understandable even if one is not a NASA scientist. But in the months since the Chilean earthquake in February, there have been an upsurge in disasters from below. We have seen a massive mine explosion and the largest oil spill in U.S. history. But that is not all, by any means. Besides the most “massive” and the “largest”- qualities we know are indicative of the end time with the constant ramping-up of painful contractions – we see the following constant and successive earth crustal disasters:

It has been a bloody week for China’s coal industry, with four reported accidents. In Russia, there were Two powerful blasts at the country’s largest coal mine that killed at least 12 miners and left 84 people – including 19 rescue workers – trapped deep underground while emergency services scramble to clear smoke and deadly gas from the stricken tunnels. At least six miners have died and seven are missing after a coal-mining accident in eastern Ukraine, regional officials say. In the US, an explosion at West Virginia Massey Energy mine killed 29 men last month, the nation’s worst coal mine disaster in 40 years. Mine disasters in the US are rare. In the US there was one in 2007, two in 2006, one in 2001, and one in 1992…and so on with their intermittent frequency indicating that such disasters are a relative rarity. Now suddenly it seems that mines are collapsing all over the place. But that’s not all that is collapsing.

Recently I wrote about the house and family in Quebec that was swallowed by an unexpected sinkhole in a location not known for sinkholes. That sinkhole tragedy was followed the next week by half an interstate lane disappearing in TN. And the world soon became highly aware of the eerie sinkhole in Guatemala City that swallowed a clothing factory, disappearing down a perfectly cylindrical hole that looked for all the nether-world like the shaft to hell.

Apparently, sinkholes have been appearing with enough regularity in China that the situation is spooking the population. A Sudden Sinkhole Outbreak Raises Fear in China–

“While the Guatemalans are wondering if the giant sinkhole formed on June 1 in their capital city is an isolated case, on the other side of the globe, the Chinese have discovered at least eight sinkholes that suddenly formed in the past two weeks across their country, and many more have appeared during the past two months. On June 3, four huge sinkholes opened up in Guangxi Province where a torrential storm was raging. According to Chinese state media reports, more than 600 villagers had to be evacuated because of them. Three smaller holes were found in southwestern Sichuan Province, and in Yibin City about 260 miles from the Sichuan earthquake’s epicenter, 26 larger sinkholes have formed since April 27. Prelude to Disaster? The outbreak of sinkholes has struck fear in Chinese people.” The report says that “Sinking government credibility and all too fresh memories of a series of recent disasters are causing Chinese society to become easily agitated. This February, the mere rumor of an earthquake scared tens of thousands of citizens in Taiyuan City in Shanxi Province out of their homes and into the streets to spend the night.”

Men will faint from terror, apprehensive of what is coming on the world, for the heavenly bodies will be shaken. Luke 21:26

Besides earthquakes, mine disasters and sinkholes, there have also been a spate of gas and oil rig explosions. We’re all too familiar with the BP Deepwater Horizon rig explosion on April 22. On May 9 in Decatur Alabama, house was leveled in natural gas explosion. The blast could be felt as far as 2 miles away. Pictured above is a Pennsylvania methane explosion that injured 7 workers. The flames could be seen two miles away On June 8 in West Virginia a methane blast burned 7. The next day, Two men were killed Tuesday by a natural-gas pipeline explosion in Texas, the second such incident in the state in two days. There were several other gas explosion incidences that have occurred in May, but they were over-written in the news by subsequent incidences in June and became too hard to keep track of.

Earth’s increasingly temperamental crustal behavior is not escaping the attention of even the most liberal of opinion-casters, Keith Olbermann, who stated last night as “a Doomsday Scenario that is not far off” and reported something that is worse than Doomsday: something brought up by Florida Senator Bill Nelson in an interview with Andrea Mitchell. A transcript is here, the video is below. It seems that the ocean floor itself has ruptured underneath the BP well and oil is gushing out straight from the earth. A geologic rupture (subsurface blowout) was first mentioned weeks ago by Matt Simmons, who was pooh-poohed but now the scenario seems kind of, um, likely. You can read both Simmons’ claim and the pooh-poohing here.

I don’t like to connect dots that are not there.  However it is fact is that there have been an unusual number of and successive methane, natural gas, and oil explosions in places that don’t usually have them, and whose cause have been investigated as non-terror related. Sinkhole outbreak and sub-sea geologic ruptures are being discussed. The earth is changing…or moving…or cracking…or something. We have a God who promised to use events in the end time to speak of His Holy power and the need for sinners to repent. We have an earth that has been prophesied to be renewed, from the ground up. We have documented evidence that earthquake frequency is up and that volcano eruption activity is up. In understanding where we are in the end time, I personally believe that the news related to explosions from the earth’s crust and ruptures are crustal shifts presaging the more massive shifts to come. In other words, don’t look out below, LOOK UP!

A great gulf fixed: goodbye middle class!

It is commonly supposed that the Tribulation will be rife with poverty, starvation, and famine. And that is true. When the Third Seal is opened, a black horse rides, with scales in his hand and famine will be on the earth. A loaf of white bread will cost as much as a day’s pay. (Rev 6:6). Jesus said in Mt. 24:7 that “There will be famines.” People will be poor, starving, and desperate.

But that is not the total picture. That is only half the picture. There will be riches on earth, too. Though most of the world is crying out for relief, or marching with pitchforks against employers who cheat them of their pay while resting in their luxuries, (James 5:1-5), the rich will be very rich. How do we know this?

Revelation 18:11-

And the merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her, for no one buys their merchandise anymore: merchandise of gold and silver, precious stones and pearls, fine linen and purple, silk and scarlet, every kind of citron wood, every kind of object of ivory, every kind of object of most precious wood, bronze, iron, and marble; and cinnamon and incense, fragrant oil and frankincense, wine and oil, fine flour and wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and chariots, and bodies and souls of men. The fruit that your soul longed for has gone from you, and all the things which are rich and splendid have gone from you, and you shall find them no more at all. The merchants of these things, who became rich by her, will stand at a distance for fear of her torment, weeping and wailing, and saying, ‘Alas, alas, that great city that was clothed in fine linen, purple, and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls! For in one hour such great riches came to nothing.’ Every shipmaster, all who travel by ship, sailors, and as many as trade on the sea, stood at a distance and cried out when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, ‘What is like this great city?’

There ARE luxuries on earth during the terrible time of most of the Tribulation, but we can see that the gap between rich and poor, compassion and selfishness has widened beyond measure even now in the end time prior to the Tribulation.

For many Third World countries, a middle class is non-existent. In Ecuador, where I traveled in the mid 1990s, the middle class was slipping into oblivion. In First World countries such as America, the middle class felt permanent and comfortable. Not so anymore. Most people are hanging on to Middle Class with their fingernails.

At least the climber has a rope. Many Americans don’t and the one safety net they do have, unemployment benefits, food assistance, or Social Security, are rapidly fraying. In this article, titled, “Game Over for the American Middle Class – Inflation Adjusted Wages up 20 Percent in Last 20 Years While Housing Costs are up 56 Percent and Healthcare Costs are up 155 Percent,” the struggle “for average Americans to keep up is largely becoming an act of will power and force in this current grand recession. In fact, many more people are simply trying to stay afloat let alone pursuing the middle class ideal. Over 37 million Americans are now part of the food stamp program, not only is this the highest number ever but also the highest percentage of Americans ever to be on food assistance.”

The picture in Revelation of the luxuries being sold to the very rich while the employees cry and wail because they are cheated out of their wages and are dying for lack of bread illustrates not only the wealth gap that is upon us now, but the compassion gap, too. If nothing else, these three videos show the very rich and powerful are awash in their sins, whether it is power, ambition, or lust, and are immune to the very real problems their own constituents face. Watch them and the I’ll comment below. Note: prurient parts are blurred out.

What’s on my screen? and clicked away from it right away,’ he told the Sunshine State News. A Senate spokesman said Mr Bennett had thought the email was relating to the abortion bill. It is unclear if he thought the video of the dog was also in relation to the bill. He refused to show the Sunshine State News the original email on his computer after consulting with the Senate’s top lawyer. And when asked if he would ever watch porn on the Senate floor, he replied: ‘You’d have to be insane to do that. It all goes through a server. If you notice the reactions of the three, first Sen. Bennett: When asked about the pornography he is looking at on the laptop, he is quoted as saying that since the servers are public he would have to be crazy to view porn at the senate chambers. He didn’t say that pornography is a sin, that is it offensive and in no way would he engage in it. He said it is an activity better done in private and therefore since he isn’t that dumb he wasn’t REALLY looking at porn.

As for the Romanian parliamentarian, his goofy grin and unabashed wink wink at the camera, while immediately returning to his activity knowing the camera was upon him, speaks to how deeply our leaders fail in every ethical and moral stance. It is heartrendingly evident that our world’s leaders are not engaged in the world’s problems, but are partying like there’s no tomorrow on the backs of the poor.

As for Mrs Pelosi…the crowd is so angry they are throwing things at her. And those are not Republicans in the audience, make no mistake, those are liberals shouting her down and throwing things. It’s quite a testimony that body guards are even needed, never mind suggesting that she be hustled to her armor plated car and whisked away.

Despite leading two wars, is in the midst of the Second Great Depression, and our southern coastline is being slowly ruined by chemicals and oil, our Resident Obama parties, and parties, and parties, and parties.

All middle ground is falling away. There will be the very rich, and the very poor. Home owners (behind gates no doubt) and homeless. The starving and the fat. And the most important gap of all: the saved and the lost. Jesus is removing all earthly safety nets with the result that the gulf widens inexorably. It is a great gulf fixed, “so that those who want to pass from here to you cannot, nor can those from there pass to us.” And that gulf is finally coming into view. The faithful will fully rely on Him and the faithless will see just how far one can fall when relying on human folly. No middle ground. The powerful are not listening, and the oppressed are sharpening their pitchforks. O, Lord, come quickly!

More than half of US declares gay is OK. This is "moral suicide"

Americans are OK with gay. Last week, Gallup released a stunning report on Americans’ relaxing views of homosexuality. Previously considered the most loathsome and despicable of sins, once reserved for the grossest of sinners, homosexual sodomy has now been raised to the domain of living room respectability.

“Americans’ support for the moral acceptability of gay and lesbian relations crossed the symbolic 50% threshold in 2010. At the same time, the percentage calling these relations “morally wrong” dropped to 43%, the lowest in Gallup’s decade-long trend.”

The number of men who deem homosexual relations morally acceptable increased 14 points, from 39% to 53%. The increase was largest among men in the 18-49 demographic, 20 points’ increase. Of course, Gallup notes that in 2006 when this reports’ comparison began, the term was put to the respondents as “homosexual relations” and since then, respondents were asked about “gay relations”, illustrating that Gallup themselves succumbed to the PR the homosexual community has been striving to insinuate into our consciousness.

Joseph Chambers likened America’s slide to moral suicide and that is a good term indeed. Paul warned us that in the last days, “[K]now this, that in the last days perilous times will come: “For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God…” (2 Timothy 3:1-4).

But every generation says that this generation is the worst! That the moral slide is always the worst right now! Yes, but we are not battling morality vs. immorality nor cultural thought, we are battling Spiritual entities. Spiritual decline has never been at this level because it is not an fleshly struggle of moral choices, but is the beginning of the final battle before Jesus returns.

To that end, Jesus Himself gave us commands, warnings, and parables to identify the time and to remember what to do.

Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all. Even so will it be in the day when the Son of Man is revealed. “In that day, he who is on the housetop, and his goods are in the house, let him not come down to take them away. And likewise the one who is in the field, let him not turn back. Remember Lot’s wife. (Luke 17:29-32)

Jesus was saying the moral and spiritual circumstances of those immoral cities would be repeated in the end time. That’s why the conditions we see now, being the end time, are different from all the generations from before. Further, this account of God’s warning was a pattern and type of the warning He would send to believers of this last day (today), as Peter explains:

if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; (2 Peter 2:6)

Satan and his demons are loosing an unprecedented barrage of evil powers and moral confusion. Morality is always the first to go. Homosexuality is a crime against God, being a sin. Sodom and Gomorrah were smited because of their immorality and so the world will be smited again, especially America. Americans answering ‘yes’ to Gallup’s query on whether homosexual relations are morally acceptable are just at risk as homosexuals themselves. Why? “Remember Lot’s wife.”

Lot and his wife lived with Abraham when Abraham got the call from God. They saw God working in Abraham’s life. (Genesis 12:1-5) They saw how He prospered Abraham, and they each benefited from Abraham’s obedience to God. Mrs. Lot saw that these were two angels (men) warning her of impending judgment. She saw the sinfulness of the city. She believed her husband when he said they should leave, unlike their sons-in-law. She left the city, heading in the right direction. She knew.

Yet, her example stands for us all, as Jesus pointed out. She knew, and yet she succumbed to the creep. The creep is the insinuating influence of satan. The creep is an ever so incremental lowering of moral standards until before you know it, brimstone is falling on your head.

Do not think for a moment brethren, that satan will announce himself by appearing to you as a red-spandex suited sulfurous pitchfork-wielding demon. He will creep in, incrementally lowering your standards bit by bit, where they matter, until you are accepting immorality that you know to be gross. And don’t for a moment think that just because you do not indulge in it, that it is the same as faithfully opposing it. Remember Lot’s wife. She wasn’t gay, but I bet she went to the gay pride parade.

Do you think you can be around sin, and resist it? Do you think you can stand by and turn a blind eye, and not be affected? Well, you can’t. Remember Lot’s wife. She (and Lot also), pitched their tent (Genesis 13:10-12) closer and closer to the city, even though “the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and sinful against the LORD.” Eventually their immorality creep landed them inside the city. When judgment cometh, (Genesis 19) and it was time to leave their house in the city, Mrs Lot’s heart was still tied in bondage to all the fleshly indulgences that immorality offered her and the sin she had allowed to creep in, looked back despite the angel having told her not to. Her punishment is well-known, she was instantly turned into a pillar of salt.

Her punishment is a reminder of the end times where there will eventually be no middle ground. Once Mrs Lot was safely away from Sodom, she turned and looked back. Lot looked forward, to God. Mrs. Lot looked back, to sin. There is no middle ground with Jesus, you are either for Him, or against Him. There is no fence-sitting, comfortably watching the proceedings from a safe distance. You must declare allegiance for one side or the other. Parade bystanders need not apply. Either you are in it, or you are out. Remember Lot’s Wife.

Gallup finds that Americans’ Acceptance of Gay Relations Crosses 50% Threshold. What is God’s threshold? Look at the chart above and notice the creep. It is not a spike. It is a slow decline. As Mrs. Lot inexorably crept closer and closer to Sodom’s sin central, her conscience increasingly tolerated what she was seeing. It is an inevitable outcome of the spiritual battle, once you open the door to sin.

As for judgment of this acceptance, we know what we can expect. God is the same yesterday, today, and forever, so we know there is fire and brimstone awaiting us each individually and collectively as a nation. The question is, when can we expect it? With more than half the nation in serious moral rebellion against God, my opinion is, any time. Any time. Thus, now is the time to start remembering Lot’s wife, and declare which side you are on.

Israel is special, world. Believe it!

God chose a People for Himself and these are the Israelites.

“For you are a holy people to the LORD your God; the LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth. (Deuteronomy 7:6)

The Israelites are the apple of God’s eye. “For this is what the LORD Almighty says: “After he has honored me and has sent me against the nations that have plundered you–for whoever touches you touches the apple of his eye–” The pupil of the eye is the tenderest part of the eye and the most sensitive to touch. God loves His people and He has promised over and over that those who come against Israel come against Him, as He says here, in the most famous promise:

I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.(Genesis 12:3)

He means it. He makes a distinction between the Jews, His people, and others, as demonstrated here:

“But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue, against man or beast: that ye may know how that the Lord doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel. (Exodus 11:7)

Can He cause a dog not to wag its tongue? Yes! He is mighty, and the smallest detail escapes not His attention, especially when it comes to Israel. The Gentiles are His people too, non-Jewish believers in Jesus Christ are grafted into the family tree of People that God took for Himself:

But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive, were grafted in among them and became partaker with them of the rich root of the olive tree, do not be arrogant toward the branches; but if you are arrogant, remember that it is not you who supports the root, but the root supports you. You will say then, “Branches were broken off so that I might be grafted in.” (Romans 11:17-19)

So you see, there is no need to feel excluded. ALL peoples, if they believe on Jesus, will be grafted in to His tree and be saved forever. But as for those who refuse His remedy for sin, woe to them. Matthew Henry comments on the Exodus verse thus: “An earnest was hereby given of the difference which shall be put in the great day between God’s people and his enemies: did men know what a difference God puts, and will put to eternity, between those that serve him and those that serve him not…” There IS a difference!

And that’s why what Helen Thomas said on May 27 is so especially heartbreaking. Asked by a reporter at the White House Jewish Heritage Celebration on May 27, “Any comments about Israel?” She replied:

“Tell them to get the hell out of Palestine.”
Rabbi: Ooooh. Any better comments about Israel?
Thomas: [LOL] Remember, these people are occupied. And it’s their land. It’s not German, it’s not Poland’s…
Reporter: So where should they go? What should they do?
Thomas: Go back home.
Reporter: Where’s home?
Thomas: Poland…Germany. And everywhere else.

The video ends with the caption stating “Six million Jews were killed at home. In Germany and Poland. Does Helen know that the Jews have lived on the land way before the Holocaust?”

Her comments were racist enough, and her weak and hypocritical apology on her website later [Hey, sorry about that whole ethnic cleansing thing. Didn’t mean it…let’s all have some mutual respect, eh?] did nothing to mitigate the collective gasps from Jews and Christians around the world.

But the deeper issue is that the comments came on the heels of the Gaza Flotilla blockade violence and the world’s collective horror at what the Israeli Defense Forces did, or what the Activists/Terrorists did (depending on what side you are on). Thomas’s comments were gasoline on the already raging fire. Her statements and her beliefs on the subject  present concrete and blunt verbiage from one of the most insider people on the planet. Saying it makes it real. The front and center link on Drudge fanned the flames (not that I’m complaining, people need to see unadulterated racism when it occurs, because, as Thomas says on her website, “Without an informed people, there can be no democracy”). However the seepage into the collective consciousness will go something like this: ‘If she says it, it must be true. She’s educated and in the know’…or ‘If she says it, then I can say it too.’ We know from future history that the end days would be rife with hatred toward Israel.

It will come about in that day that I will make Jerusalem a heavy stone for all the peoples; all who lift it will be severely injured. And all the nations of the earth will be gathered against it. (Zechariah 12:3)

Eventually in the end time, this hate-war of words and beliefs translates into real wars with weapons as the bible depicts in the Psalm 83 war, the Gog-Magog war, and the Tribulation wars. Revelation 6:4 tells us that as the second seal is opened, peace is taken from the earth. It all ends with a second-to-final war, Armageddon, with ALL the world pointing all their weapons toward Israel:

For I will gather all the nations to battle against Jerusalem; The city shall be taken, The houses rifled, And the women ravished. Half of the city shall go into captivity, But the remnant of the people shall not be cut off from the city. (Zechariah 14:2)

It begins with this war of words against His people Israel, like Helen Thomas’s, not the only person to believe Israel has no right to their land, but the most prominent, and the most blunt. However, the question at the end of the video that captured her words asked, “Does Helen know that the Jews have lived on the land way before the Holocaust?” Obviously, she does not know. But it is true. The land is Israel’s and is for the Jews, God’s people. They are special, and there IS a distinction between Jews (and their grafted-in Christian brethren) and ‘Egyptians’, or non-believers. For all the world that does not know of this distinction, they soon will:

“In that day the LORD will defend the inhabitants of Jerusalem, … “And in that day I will set about to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. (Zechariah 12:8-9)

Submit to Him and His Holy Spirit, and you will be sealed with the guarantee of forgiveness, eternal life, and Love. And you will dwell under the shelter of His wings forever.

Another spiral, in Australia

Still reeling from the spiral over Norway a few months ago, it seems that another one has been spotted, this time over Australia. It doesn’t look photoshopped, and the reports are from credible sources. Is it a sign? Read below the news article excerpt.

UFO spotted over eastern Australia
“People across New South Wales, Queensland and the ACT say they were startled this morning by a huge white light moving across the sky. Canberra resident James Butcher says he was driving home from a night out with his brother when they spotted the “strange spiral light in the sky”. “It had a distinct bright centre, much like a bright star, indicating an object shedding light trails, spiralling and fattening out from it,” he said. “The effect lasted only two or three minutes, moving and descending quickly out of view. “The colour was yellowish but this may have been blurred and tinted by the morning fog.” Wollongong man Eddie Wise says he also saw the light during his morning walk just before 6:00am. He says he has never seen anything like it. “It was like a yellowish, greenish light with a light spiral around it,” he said. “It sort of moved around, bobbed up and down and then it went behind a cloud. “I’m just amazed. I want to know what it was.”

Queensland sightings
“A number of people from Morayfield and Caboolture in Queensland have reported that they too saw a white light in the sky about 5:50am. “It was just the one light. I just came home from my walk and I happened to look up in the sky, and here it was racing across the sky,” Linda told 612 ABC Brisbane. “I bashed on the window for my husband to have a look and he flew out. “It was spectacular.” Linda described the light as like a lollipop swirl.”

In another news article titled “Australians surprised by bright light“,  “Early risers along Australia’s east coast have been startled by a bright spiral moving across the sky. Callers to the A-B-C say they were frightened when they saw a white light bigger than the moon moving slowly in an arc through the sky this morning. Witnesses say the spiral fell below the horizon just before six o’clock. Astronomer Simon O’Toole says there’s no need for alarm and that it was not a UFO. He says the phenomenon was probably caused by a meteor or space junk.”

Space junk?

Is it a sign? The Greek word for ‘sign’ used in Luke is miracle. Probe Ministries describes it this way: “Miracles are those acts that only God can perform; usually superseding natural laws. Baker’s Dictionary of the Bible defines a miracle as “an event in the external world brought about by the immediate agency or the simple volition of God.” It goes on to add that a miracle occurs to show that the power behind it is not limited to the laws of matter or mind as it interrupts fixed natural laws. So the term supernatural applies quite accurately. It’s very interesting that a common word used for miracle in the New Testament can also be translated “sign.” A miracle is a sign that God uses to point to Himself; the same way we follow signs to find a museum or an airport.”

I’m intrigued. A spiral….hmmm.

She served for fifty-seven years as a correspondent and, later, White House bureau chief for United Press International (UPI). Thomas has covered every President of the United States since the later years of the Eisenhower administration. Asked by a reporter at the White House Jewish Heritage Celebration on May 27,”Any comments about Israel?” She replied:

Signs in the sun, moon, and stars: Jupiter!

In Luke’s account of the Olivet Discourse, when Jesus sat down with the Apostles and told them about the signs marking the end of the world, one of them was:

“There will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth dismay among nations, in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves, Luke 21:25

Recently there have been some interesting signs in the universe. Whether they qualify as miracles or signs according to the biblical definition, I leave up to you to decide. What interests me, though, is that many of these things happening have either never occurred before, or are things scientists are at a loss to explain.

Solar Scientists Agree That the Sun’s Recent Behavior Is Odd
In very rough terms, the sun’s activity ebbs and flows in an 11-year cycle, with flares, coronal mass ejections and other energetic phenomena peaking at what is called solar maximum and bottoming out at solar minimum. Sunspots, markers of magnetic activity on the sun’s surface, provide a visual proxy to mark the cycle’s evolution, appearing in droves at maximum and all but disappearing at minimum. But the behavior of our host star lately is not as predictable as all that—the most recent solar minimum was surprisingly deep and long, finally bottoming out around late 2008 or so. “I think we’re almost in violent agreement that this is an interesting minimum,” said David Hathaway of the NASA Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. “My main impression of all this is I’m gratified to see that we all agree that this is an interesting minimum,” Hill said. “What’s not so gratifying is we have no clue why any of these effects are happening.”

Jupiter’s belt is gone
In the small hours of the morning, even before the sun is up, a bright star is rising. This is Jupiter. If you look closely, you’ll see white stripes and dark bands the color of L.A. smog. Usually, two enormous belts flank the equator like rust-colored tire tracks. But now something is different. One of the belts is missing. And no one really knows why.

Another object strikes Jupiter
Amateur astronomers observing Jupiter have witnessed an impact with the giant planet’s atmosphere. Both Anthony Wesley of Australia and Christopher Go of the Philippines saw a flash of light as an object struck Jupiter at 20:31 UT on June 3, 2010. Both observers have video of the event. There are a number of interesting coincidences about this new impact on Jupiter. Only last year, on July 20, 2009, Jupiter was struck by an object that proceeded to produce a large bruise in the planet’s atmosphere.

‘Zombie satellite’ threatens other craft A satellite “goes rogue” and inexplicably begins stealing other communications signals
Don’t be alarmed. High above your heads, a zombie satellite is on the loose. OK, actually, it won’t really be a bother to us earthlings. Or at least to most of us. (More on that later.) But the rogue communications satellite is wreaking havoc in Earth’s orbit and does threaten to interfere with signals coming from other satellites. Here’s the backstory… The communications satellite named Galaxy 15 lost contact with ground control after a solar flare probably fried its brain. As a story from the Christian Science Monitor reports, attempts from Earth to contact the satellite have been unsuccessful. But instead of just dying and drifting off, the satellite has continued to orbit the Earth, even though it refuses to receive instructions from its owner, Intelsat.
For the science nerds out there: The satellite is still on, with its “C-band telecommunications payload still functioning even as it has left its assigned orbital slot of 133 degrees west longitude 36,000 kilometers over the equator.” Translation: Not good. What’s confounding scientists is that even though the satellite is toast, it continues to operate at full power, but with nobody telling it what to do. Why on earth we should care: The “zombiesat” (as its known in space talk) could steal a working sat signal, and interrupt programming for its customers.

Just about the only sign we have not seen is a sign on the moon.

Israel poised for prophecy fulfillment

Events are rapidly coming together and have recently entered the spiritual vision of many Christians and even many unsaved. The Lord’s program with Israel that has been written since the foundation of the world contains prophecies that have yet to be fulfilled, but seem close to fruition.

Of most concern is the prophesied Gog-Magog battle. This future event is prophesied to occur in the last days and can be read in Ezekiel 38-39. It is this event which God uses to draw Israel back to Himself by announcing His presence on earth. In the last days, Israel is surprised in an attack by an alliance of nations that include Russia, Iran, Libya, Sudan, Armenia, Turkey and others. Israel is so surprised, perhaps exulting in relaxation after her decisive win in the Psalm 83 prophetic war, that she is on the verge of losing the battle. Until the last moment, it seems that Iran’s long-standing promise to “wipe Israel from the face of the earth” will come true. However, God supernaturally saves Israel and all who participate in this battle know it. The Gog-Magog battle is widely considered to be the gateway into the Tribulation, because it is at this time that God returns His attention to dealing with Israel as the prophesied last 7 years of the original decree states:

Seventy ‘sevens’ are decreed for your people and your holy city to finish transgression, to put an end to wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up prophecy and to anoint the most holy.” – Daniel 9:24

490 years…but Jesus came in year 483 of the decree and when He died, it stopped the decree clock for a 2000 year ‘pause’ in order to build His church. When the church is built, and Paul told us that it will be finished when “the full number of the Gentiles has come in” (and no one but God knows that number) then God will resume His dealings with His people and their transgression of the last 7 years.

So that you will not be conceited, brothers, I do not want you to be unaware of this mystery: a partial hardening has come to Israel until the full number of the Gentiles has come in. Romans 11:25

The Israelites cannot understand about their transgression (rejecting Jesus) until we are raptured out of the way and that will occur sometime between this moment and the end of the Gog-Magog Battle.

What gets Russia et al so furious that they combine to attack Israel directly? Prior to the Gog battle likely it could be any number of things: a fulfillment of the Isaiah 17:1 prophecy that Damascus will be destroyed … Israel’s resounding win in the prophetic Psalm 83 war … or Israel’s extreme wealth that draw Russia to plunder. The neighboring onlookers cheer the Gog alliance on:

“Sheba and Dedan and the merchants of Tarshish with all its villages will say to you, ‘Have you come to capture spoil? Have you assembled your company to seize plunder, to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to capture great spoil?'” Ezekiel 38:13

Sheba and Dedan are Saudi Arabia and the identification of Tarshish is contended, but may be Britain. It is thought that the onlookers are cheering because they participated in the Psalm 83 war that likely occurred just prior to the Gog battle and are out of commission, having been soundly beaten by Israel.

So are there events today which are serving as a catalyst for the Gog-Magog coalition to join forces against Israel? Does the world hate Israel? Does it look like friend Turkey will finally tip over from pro-Western to pro-Muslim and become Israel’s enemy? Does it look like Damascus is at risk, that Israel’s neighbors will attack her, that Iran is crazy enough to nuke go against her long-hated nemesis? All these are conditions that need to be in place for the prophecies to come about. And the answer is Yes.

Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the peoples round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem. And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all peoples; all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the nations of the earth be gathered together against it.” Zechariah 12:2-4

A pastor friend of mine who is helping us set up the 2010 Epicenter Conference in Philadelphia later this month just sent me an urgent text message with this headline from Israel National News: Rabbis: Flotilla Clash Similar to Gog and Magog Prophecy. As you might expect, it caught my attention right away. Excerpts-
‘The Rabbinical Council of Judea and Samaria issued a statement Thursday in which it said that the results of the incident in which Israel intercepted a flotilla trying to break the naval blockade of Gaza seem like the Biblical description of “the beginning of the Gog and Magog process where the world is against us, but which ends with the third and final redemption….’

And of the ‘great spoil’ and the ‘plunder’ the Gog coalition seeks from Israel?

Israel set to become gas exporter Consortium finds enough gas to secure energy needs for 50 – 70 years.
A consortium led by billionaire Yitzhak Tshuva announced on Thursday that it has struck natural gas in a field called ‘Leviathan’ off the coast of Israel. The field is estimated to contain 15 trillion cubic feet of gas and is the second large scale gas find in a month. Last month’s find, in a field called ‘Tamar’, is thought to contain enough gas to supply Israel for the next twenty years.

 Is Iran capable of wiping Israel from the map? And do they have the will? Yes

U.N. says Iran has fuel for two nukes
In their last report before the United Nations Security Council votes on sanctions against Iran, international nuclear inspectors declared Monday that Iran has now produced a stockpile of nuclear fuel that experts say would be enough, with further enrichment, to make two nuclear weapons.

Events of the day are hurtling us toward fulfillment of the last seven years. The timing is the Lord’s and no one knows exactly when the the now-lit match will reach the fuse. The best thing for the Christian to do is pray, stay in the Word, and witness like there’s no tomorrow. For there may be no tomorrow.

Hurricane season and the Oil Slick

Back on April 30, I pondered the implications of a hurricane season on the oil slick in the Gulf of Mexico. The enormity of the disaster hadn’t hit home yet, since it was only days old at that time, and many people casually thought that the slick would be cleaned up by then. No one in their wildest dreams thought that not only wouldn’t it be cleaned up, but the the oil would still be pumping by the time hurricane season hit.

Now that hurricane season is upon us, having opened on June 1, let’s take a look at the outlook.

The 2010 Hurricane Season in the Atlantic Ocean began on June 1, 2010, and will end on November 30, 2010. Atlantic hurricanes affect the eastern and Gulf coasts of the U.S. and the Caribbean nations. The experts are predicting a busier-than-usual hurricane season for 2010. According to the forecast, there is an 85% change of an above-average hurricane season in 2010. We can expect an “active to extremely active” season. 14-23 named storms (winds 39 mph or higher)8-14 hurricanes (winds 74 mph or higher) 3-7 major hurricanes (winds of at least 111 mph)

So it seems that there will be a steady parade of storms in the Gulf, and only once in 12 years did NOAA’s prediction turn out to be an overestimate. Let’s take a look at the oil and where it is predicted to be:

The NY Times’s simulation reporting shows the oil going around Florida and up the East Coast. The University Corporation’s Atmospheric Research showed the oil going around Florida and up the east Coast. The oil is going to escape into the Atlantic, there is no doubt about it. Here is a computer simulation.

But here is science for the third part of this study of oil and hurricanes: wind plastering it all over the United States. It’s hard to imagine the effects of wind-driven oil and chemicals on the farmlands in LA, TX, Alabama, Mississippi, Florida, but not so hard to imagine there will be some. We know that salt-driven inland has devastating effects on vegetation up to 45 miles inland. The brown area in the gulf indicates sediment taken from the coast when surge waters flowed back out.)

But what about the effects far inland? Yes, I said far inland. A NASA study conducted in 23 of the effects of wind-driven salt and plankton from the Pacific hurricanes of 1998 found that the winds had indeed driven them far inland. Like, from California to Oklahoma.

Hurricane Winds Carried Ocean Salt & Plankton Far Inland
Researchers found surprising evidence of sea salt and frozen plankton in high, cold, cirrus clouds, the remnants of Hurricane Nora, over the U.S. plains states. Although the 1997 hurricane was a strong eastern Pacific storm, her high ice-crystal clouds extended many miles inland, carrying ocean phenomena deep into the U.S. heartland. Scientists were surprised to find what appeared to be frozen plankton in some cirrus crystals collected by research aircraft over Oklahoma, far from the Pacific Ocean. This was the first time examples of microscopic marine life, like plankton, were seen as “nuclei” of ice crystals in the cirrus clouds of a hurricane.

National Geographic also studied the effects of hurricane wind-driven salt onto the far inland parts of the US, enough to change the local ecosystem. Answer: yes the hurricanes drive surface items such as salt far inland. It would likely do the same for oil. Wat I wrote back on April 30 was “As the hurricane makes landfall, the oil foam would be plastered on everything for hundreds of miles. When trees, grasses, plants, animals, etc. get pounded with the foamy winds they will get a thin layer of oil. That thin layer of oil mixed with sea water would likely kill any vegetation.” If it has been proven that salt carried far inland has devastating effects on the land and trees, then what of the effects of oil?

Thirty-seven percent of the Gulf is already closed to fishing. As the slick grows, that number grows. It was 31% only a few days ago. Fishing is food, and food is already scarce. As the farmlands inland receive chemicals and oil from wind-driven tropical force and hurricane driven winds, from the Gulf AND the east coast, it is not hard to imagine the end time warning of famine in Matthew 24:7 coming to fruition very soon.
