"Post-apocalyptic landscapes" during this, the pre-apocalypse

Do you know who said this?

“We are living at a time when mankind seems to sense that the end of all things is very near. Just about everyone has a theory as to how the world is threatened and when that end might come. The media and the Internet are full of doomsday speculations concerning the New Age “Mayan Calendar” and the year 2012. Some scientists predict that Global Warming could wipe out life on Planet Earth within a certain number of years. At the same time, politicians work to halt the proliferation of life-destroying nuclear weapons before it is “too late.” High profile news reports of economic downturns, crime, wars, tsunamis, earthquakes, and disease outbreaks cause people to question whether God is bringing judgment on the world.”

I agree with this statement. We ARE living at a time when mankind seems to sense the end of things is nearing. The person who said that is Harold Camping, from his website We Can Know. Though I disagree with Camping’s setting a date for the rapture, of course, I agree that the times are dire enough that people sense an imminence to…something. Christians know that imminence is judgment on the world, after the removal of the faithful believers in Jesus.

This year in the US is the most expensive year ever for natural disaster recovery. As I’ve mentioned before, reporters and weather men are running out of superlatives to describe the weather systems and disasters they are covering. “Worst ever” dropped off a long time ago. “Historic” got worn out fast as new events outpaced prior events, because history was made monthly or even weekly. Recently we were reading about ‘epic’ floods/tornadoes/landslides/eruptions/earthquakes. Even ‘epic’ doesn’t’ describe what we see anymore. This week, a new term to describe the devastation has arrived: “Post-apocalyptic”.

The Australian Broadcast Company wrote this of the damage in Joplin MO from this week’s tornadoes:
“The twister hit the town of Joplin with only 20 minutes warning, turning whole neighbourhoods into a post-apocalyptic landscape.”

The Book of Eli, movie

Time Magazine reporter observed:
“I saw a man sifting through the rubble of what used to be Affordable Mini Storage. He was going through the remains of his storage unit, searching for anything salvageable in the post-apocalyptic landscape of our home town. He picked up a toy from the debris.”

At Fox News, we read
After daybreak, survivors picked through the rubble of their homes, salvaging clothes, furniture, family photos and financial records, the air pungent with the smell of gas and smoking embers. Some neighborhoods were completely flattened and the leaves stripped from trees, giving the landscape an apocalyptic aura. In others where structures still stood, families found their belongings jumbled as if someone had picked up their homes and shaken them.”

Cormac McCarthy’s ‘The Road’

Unfortunately for those who are already at a loss for words, the apocalypse hasn’t even begun. But the use of that term to describe in visual terms what we have never seen before is telling. All we have are movies to conjecture what a devastated world would look like, and many of us have seen those films or ones like them. Here is a scene from The Book of Eli, a film starring Denzel Washington that was released last Memorial Day weekend. The summary- “A post-apocalyptic tale, in which a lone man fights his way across America in order to protect a sacred book that holds the secrets to saving humankind.”

Each of these following three links uses the same phrase, that [parts of] Tuscaloosa Ala, Joplin MO, Denning Ark were “wiped off the map.”

Post-apocalyptic is a good descriptive term, and each of the real scenes and the movie scenes mirror each other in some way. However, the apocalypse has not begun. How will newscasters describe the real post-apocalyptic events when the real apocalypse happens, if they are already using up comprehensible terms that come short of offering understanding to the minds of viewers, stunned at devastation unlike anything we have seen before?

I am not making any hidden allusion that the movies mean something in today’s world. There is no hidden message here. The message is actually about language and the ability of men to visualize total earthly destruction without humanity’s extinction, which is what the Tribulation actually is. These movies did a good job of visualizing a post-apocalyptic world for movie-goers’ entertainment, but now it unfortunately has come close to the truth. No longer entertaining, hundreds of thousands of people are living it as reality. Reporters are increasingly at a loss to describe it. Mike Bettes of The Weather Channel is a veteran of thousands of tornado coverage stories, but in reporting Joplin MO tornado damage, he simply cried.

Folks, we are still PRE-apocalyptic. If you sense (correctly) that the real apocalypse is coming, whether you are of the ilk that believes in Edgar Cayce, Nostradamus, Mayan Calendar, Global Warming, the Final Imam, or Jesus Christ, you are correct, something is coming. I know what it is, too.

“But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.” (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18)

That’s the rapture! Though we do not know when that will be, we sense its nearness because our eyes are open and we see the signs the Lord said to look for appearing now with regularity and frequency. After the rapture, will be the Apocalypse. Here I quote Revelation 6-19, where the earth is devastated by earthquakes, 100 pound hail, disease, demonic attack on your physical person, torture, brutality, fires, and much more. Those two events will occur and you even have a choice as to which you would like to participate! If you sincerely believe you are a sinner rebelling against a just God, ask Jesus to forgive your sins and He will extend to you the pardon He bought for you in his own blood. You will be exempt from judgment and your sins will be wiped from the record. It will result in you being born again. You will enjoy a sweet and blissful time with Jesus in heaven while the apocalypse is happening down on earth.

Alternately, you can refuse to believe that you sin, that there is a Holy God who is judging you and will judge you, and you can choose to stay on earth for the apocalypse. If you like what you see in Japan, Joplin MO, Tuscaloosa, and Denning Arkansas, this option may appeal to you. If the reality of judgment begins to set in as it unfolds, you can appeal to the Holy Jesus and ask for forgiveness after the rapture, but do not wait until then. You may die, or you may have already been left with a hardened heart, Jesus having given you over to your desire to rebel and wallow in your sins. That is why we say now is the acceptable time of your salvation.

I plead with you to consider the reasons you are not saved but are reading this blog. The Spirit is pushing you, repeatedly, to understand the truths of His love, His justice, and His imminence. Do it today. He will not strive with man forever. (Genesis 6:3). You’ve seen the road ahead, and it is not pretty. You can traverse a road like Cormac McCarthy’s, which is broad and leads to destruction, or you can tread the narrow way which leads to eternal life and a street of gold. Your choice!

Obama is dangerous for Israel

But Obama is even more dangerous for America. How? He is no friend to Israel, and in his speech today, Obama told Israel to give up more land. This will bring judgment upon the US. Today in his speech on Middle East issues, Obama said,

“The borders of Israel and a Palestinian state should be based on pre-1967 borders with agreed swaps…”But what America and the international community can do is state frankly what everyone knows: a lasting peace will involve two states for two peoples.” He means divide part of Israel up and give it to the Palestinians for their own state.

This proposal was not taken well by Israel’s Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu. “Netanyahu blasts Obama proposal, calls 1967 borders ‘indefensible’
Forcefully stepping into an explosive Middle East debate, President Barack Obama on Thursday endorsed a key Palestinian demand for the borders of its future state and prodded Israel to accept that it can never have a truly peaceful nation based on “permanent occupation.” Obama’s urging that a Palestinian state be based on 1967 borders — before the Six Day War in which Israel occupied East Jerusalem, the West Bank and Gaza — was a significant shift in the U.S. approach. It drew an immediate negative response from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is to meet with Obama at the White House Friday. In a statement released late Thursday in Jerusalem, Netanyahu called the 1967 lines “indefensible,” saying such a withdrawal would jeopardize Israel’s security and leave major West Bank settlements outside Israeli borders, though Obama left room for adjustments reached through negotiations.”

This is not good news for Israel, and it is my opinion that the worst suspicions of the 2008 discerning electorate have now proven true: Obama as head of the United States is abandoning Israel as an ally and is actually an active enemy of that nation.

Joel C. Rosenberg (http://www.joelrosenberg.com) is the founder of The Joshua Fund and the author of eight New York Times best-selling novels and non-fiction books, with more than two million copies in print. He has also produced two documentary films, based on his two non-fiction books. previously worked as an aide to several U.S. and Israeli leaders, including Steve Forbes, former Israeli Deputy Prime Minister Natan Sharansky, and then-former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He is the son of a Jewish father and a Gentile mother, Joel is an evangelical Christian with a passion to make disciples of all nations and teach Bible prophecy.

He is hosting a conference in Israel this week on the Book of Joel. On his blog, Rosenberg said today of Obama’s proposal to return to 1967 borders and his proposal to carve up more land:

Do not divide the Land of Israel — In my message about the final chapter of the Book of Joel, I explained the warning to the nations that the Lord gives. I focused in particular on Joel 3:2 (which is 4:2 in the Hebrew Bible) in which the Lord says, “I will gather all the nations and bring them down to the valley of Jehoshaphat. Then I will enter into judgment with them there on behalf of My people and My inheritance, Israel, whom they have scattered among the nations; and they have divided up My land.” The Bible is very clear: the Lord is going to judge all the nations for dividing up the Land of Israel. Let the United Nations and the United States and the European Union and the Palestinian Authority and the Israeli government itself be warned. What appears like wisdom to the world — carving up the State of Israel like a Thanksgiving turkey — is direct disobedience to the Word of God and will trigger the most severe divine judgment. This is a hard truth for many to hear and to hold, particularly for Palestinian Arabs and others in the epicenter. But we do Israel’s Arab friends and enemies no favors by denying, obfuscating or trying to explain away the clear teaching of the Lord found in the Scriptures. We must teach the truth. We must do so gently and lovingly, but we must also be clear and firm.”

It is an inescapable fact that Israel will be divided and Jerusalem given over to the Gentiles. Joel 3:2 and Revelation 11:2 show us that. It is also an inescapable fact that the Holy Land is God’s land, and He will judge all nations that divide it or that pressure Israel to divide it.

Zechariah 12:3 says that at the time of the very end, Israel has no friend, all nations are gathered against her. America must now be moved over to the enemies side, and woe unto us that abandon God’s nation.

Facepalm: man spends all his savings in advance of (false) May 21 rapture date

New York Man Spends Life Savings Ahead of May 21 Doomsday

“A New York man spent his entire $140,000 life savings advertising his prediction that the world will end May 21, the New York Post reported Friday. Robert Fitzpatrick, a 60-year-old Staten Island resident, said he spent at least that sum on 1,000 subway-car placards and ads on bus kiosks and subway cars. They say, “Global Earthquake: The Greatest Ever! Judgment Day May 21, 2011.” In a self-published book, “The Doomsday Code,” Fitzpatrick said the Bible offers “proof that cannot be dismissed.” “Judgment Day will surprise people. We will not be ready for it,” Fitzpatrick said in an interview with the newspaper. “A giant earthquake will render the earth uninhabitable.” If you want to set an alarm clock, the quake will happen just before 6:00pm local time, he said. “God’s people will be resurrected. It is also the day that God stops saving anyone,” he said. Fitzpatrick hopes that he is one of the chosen ones, but he could not be really certain. “There’s just a little doubt,” he said. “Most churches teach that if you just believe, you will be saved. It is not our choice. It is God’s choice.”

Let’s see… where to begin. It makes no financial sense to do this. I understand believing wholeheartedly in a biblical precept and wanting to use your earthly resources to advance that precept on behalf of the lost. That is to be commended. But Mr Fitzpatrick is so misguided in this particular decision, it’s stunning to think of the waste.

But leaving the fiscal, earthly decisions aside for a moment, let’s look at the biblical error here. Nothing in the bible tells the reader that the world will end on May 21. Nothing.

Next, he said a great earthquake renders the earth uninhabitable? I don’t see that in the bible. In Revelation 6, when the ‘mega seismos’ occurs, the Great Earthquake, people still live on earth for a period of time, perhaps several years. They engage in commerce, create governments, wage in war, and, well, what Jesus said in Mt 24:38 that the days of the end will be just like in the days of Noah, “people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.” Doesn’t sound like the earth will be uninhabitable to me if people are going about their business like that.

As for not being ready? Jesus addressed that, too: “So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.” (Mt 24:44) and in Matthew 24:42, “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come,” and also in Matthew 25:13, “Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.” So no one will be ready? No one at all? Bueller? Bueller? Except Robert Fitzpatrick…he is ready, because even though Jesus said at least four times no one knows the day or hour, Mr Fitzpatrick knows. Sigh.

Mr Fitzpatrick said that on that day God stops saving anyone. A terrible accusation! And completely false! Post rapture salvation continues in the Tribulation! This is scripturally proved by Rev. 7:14, Rev. 14:13, and Rev. 20:4.

And as for being God’s choice versus faith and belief as the mechanism for salvation, Mr Fitzpatrick makes it sound as if God was up there pointing and saying, “I’ll take you and you and you but not you or you.” God’s ‘choice’ was to send Jesus to us as our Redeemer as opposed to another choice God could have made, say, obliterating us for all time. Once Jesus’ work was complete, John 6:28-29 says, “Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?” Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.” It means that it is OUR choice: believe or not believe. That truth is repeated in John 6:39 and Ephesians 2:8-9.

I hope the rapture comes before May 21, actually, but May 21 would be fine with me. Or May 22. Or June 22. The answer is that we simply don’t know. I wonder if Mr Fitzpatrick will be doing when he wakes up May 22 and realizes he has no money to live on. Now THAT is worth a facepalm.

Weird: transformers in ten cities blow up (UPDATED)

Last Tuesday, lightning struck a transformer that apparently set off a chain reaction. The explosions of several transformers subsequent to the lightning strike was impressive to say the least! The amateur video that captured it soared to youtube popularity and was fodder for the conspiracy sites and chat forums.

Ft. Worth Star Telegram:
“Fire and police dispatchers were busy Tuesday night answering calls about “fireballs” in the sky and on the ground in east Fort Worth. Several transformers were struck by lightning in east Fort Worth Tuesday night, Oncor spokeswoman Jeamy Molina said. Repair crews worked through overnight Wednesday through the afternoon after the lightning strikes “destroyed” some of the transformers, Molina said. About 550 power outages were being reported in the Metroplex as of noon Wednesday, with most of them in the Fort Worth area, Molina said. The number of outages have been reduced from the 4,000 outages reported late Tuesday, Molina said. About 210 cloud-to-ground lightning strikes were reported in Tarrant County between 8 and 9 p.m., said National Weather Service meteorologist Matt Mosier, who said he couldn’t pinpoint the exact locations. Some 120 more incidents of lightning striking the ground were reported from 9 to 10 p.m., Mosier said. Mosier said he didn’t know if it had to strike the transformer directly or the ground close to it but if the lightning carries a large enough electrical charge, it can “blow” a transformer.”

I don’t know how a lighting strike can blow five of them…Anyway here is the video. It is pretty spectacular. It seemed unusual to me, and I notice repetitive arcing, which seems unusual from just one lightning strike.

Then a couple of days later, an electrical transformer blew up early Thursday morning, causing a fire on the roof of Nasco International Inc. in Fort Atkinson Wisconsin. Here again is amateur video of the event:

Hmmm, two transformer explosions in two days? Interesting but still not a pattern.

Then, today, another one in Las Vegas. UPI reports:

I-15 shut down by Vegas transformer fire

“Las Vegas police said it took about two hours to clear up a traffic mess caused by an electrical transformer explosion behind the Monte Carlo casino. The blast and resulting fire created a cloud of smoke that shut down the northbound lanes of Interstate 15. Metro Police told the Las Vegas Sun there were no injuries and Monte Carlo guests had to be evacuated. The cause of the explosion, which occurred around 12:30 a.m. MDT, was not known.”

Weird. And then I discover that one in GA blew, one in Toronto closed a highway, one in St. Louis caused the tornado sirens to go off, and one in Snelville snarled traffic and a transformer explosion in Maryland caused a massive shock wave and leveled an abandoned building. Tonight 5000 unexpectedly lost power in Detroit, reason unknown. All happened this week. NOW it’s a pattern.

[UPDATE: in addition to the transformer electrical weirdness reported below, two more reports came in tonight: a Norwegian cruise ship with 1800 passengers and 200 crew aboard is completely without electricity. They are a dead duck, no lights, no operating machinery on board, no engines. They have to be towed back to port. Secondly, the main airport at Kuala Lumpur suffered a total electrical blackout tonight. “Out of the 42 scheduled flights, a total of 13 flights were delayed and in excess of 300 bags were left behind due to the power interruption.” ]

I’ve always thought that a soft target for terrorists would be the electrical grid. The Council for Foreign Relations thinks so too. In this report from 2007, titled “America’s Vulnerable Energy Grid,” they wrote, “On August 14, 2003, fifty million people in the Northeastern United States and Canada suddenly found themselves without electricity, some for more than twenty-four hours. In addition to eight lives, the largest blackout in U.S. history cost an estimated $6 billion to $10 billion. Contrary to initial fears, the outage was not the result of a terrorist attack or some other form of sabotage. Rather, untrimmed trees in Ohio set off a chain reaction that cast 9,300 square miles into darkness.”

“Sadly, this was no isolated incident. In July 2006, a nine-day power outage in Queens, New York affected one hundred thousand people. The apparent cause of that disruption was deterioration of the thirty- to sixty-year-old cables servicing the area. The same month, a violent thunderstorm in St. Louis, Missouri knocked out power leaving some seven hundred thousand people to brave a weeklong heat wave without electricity.”

“Current stresses on the U.S. energy grid present cause for concern. With an aging infrastructure and growing energy consumption, major outages may become an increasing phenomenon. The specter of terrorism also looms large: Experts say jihadis in Iraq have proven adept at disrupting the electrical grid in that country and could easily apply that same skill set in the United States.”

I think what they are saying is that if accidental outages from overgrown trees or old cables bring this much havoc and pain to millions of people, then what could a deliberate terrorist disruption do? A lot worse.

Now, the incidents reported above could simply be looting. Copper thieves are getting very desperate these days. I seem to recall a story out of Des Moines from less than a month ago: “Bold Thieves Risk Death to Steal Copper from Energized Transformer.” A Toronto article reports, “Thieves are so brazen that they will even steal copper from live transformer stations. Hydro One loses about $1 million a year from stolen copper, said Gregory Taylor, head of copper theft prevention.”

The end of the Church Age and the soon Tribulation will bring many of these kids of worries and realities to the remaining earth population. The Day of the Lord is surely coming soon. Are you ready to meet Him? Every life conceived has an eternal destiny. The default condition is death in hell. The choice we can all make is life in heaven. Being ready means recognizing your sins, asking Jesus to forgive them, and then living for Him with the aid of the indwelling Holy Spirit.

Otherwise, sitting in hundred degree heat high in an apartment building somewhere with no electricity, toilets, elevators, and marauding copper thieves at every turn, will be your best future. The future after that will be much worse. Turn to Jesus now.

A terrible story out of Tenerife

A British woman was attacked and decapitated in a supermarket in Los Cristianos on the holiday island of Tenerife yesterday afternoon. Witnesses said the deranged man used a large knife or machete he picked up in the supermarket to stab and decapitate the 62-year-old grandmother, a resident on the island. He then ran out into the street covered in blood, carrying his victim’s head and telling passers-by, “This is my treasure”.

In another news story of the incident, the mayor of the popular resort town where it occurred said, “the incident was ‘the most horrific crime to hit the resort in recent years’,

See, there’s those superlatives again. Every day we read of the “worst” drought…”biggest tornado”…”epic flood”…”Most horrific crime”…yet each week the superlatives are surpassed by yet ANOTHER, more horrific crime, a worse epic flood, a more ferocious tornado… In truth, things are off the charts now. Natural disasters, crime, economics, we are entering uncharted territory, and we have no more words to describe these events.

Read these then I’ll put up some scriptures of what this attack makes me think of in the bible. These following phrases are from the news stories of the attack. The photo below of of the man’s arrest:

–had a history of violent behaviour
–the attacker spent most days sitting 50 yards from the scene of the attack ‘talking to himself and gesticulating wildly’.
–‘He was very disturbed and intimidating, the sort of person you would cross the road to avoid,’
–He was a bizarre individual who was known to police
–had a history of intimidating passers-by on the street
–He knocked a stranger’s teeth out on the street.
–the killer lived in a ‘semi-abandoned’ house
–He was not the smartest looking of guys and not well groomed,
–the man was muttering and shouting

now read these excerpts from Luke and Mark:

–And when He came out onto the land, He was met by a man from the city who was possessed with demons;
–who had not put on any clothing for a long time,
–was not living in a house, but in the tombs.
–and he was bound with chains and shackles
–kept under guard, and yet he would break his bonds and be driven by the demon into the desert.
–no man could bind him, no, not with chains: because that he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been plucked asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces: neither could any man tame him.
–And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.

I do not know if this guy was demon-possessed or if he was on drugs or merely psycho. I am saying that there are similarities in the known and observed behavior of this man and the Gadarene demoniac. That the bizarre demonic or demonic-like behaviors are not relegated to the distant past when Jesus walked the earth. It happens now, too. The demon world is very real, though not usually seen. When Paul wrote to Timothy in 2 Timothy 3 that people in the end of days would be brutal, we tend to sanitize our own epoch and not really understand true brutality. Life was cheap in biblical tims: witness the robber victim that the Samaritan helped who was lying bleeding in the road as people walked on by (reminds of me of the MARTA bus driver that dragged the elderly woman 60 feet and then just drove around her), or from the bible Lazarus the poor man dying by the side of the road of the rich man’s house, dogs licking his sores. Christians were being martyred in increasingly evil ways. They knew brutality, they saw it every day.

There was real brutality then, but just because it is the new Millennium now and we can dwell in air conditioned houses in subdivisions does not mean that same kind of brutality is absent from the earth. It is not. We tend to think we live in a sanitized world because we don’t see the kind of brutality the 1st century Christians saw, or even people in violent impoverished nations do today. But Satan is still given charge of this domain and he is the most brutal. And after the Restrainer is removed, brutality will be unleashed that will make the Tenerife beheading look like a picnic. That is because the antichrist will be allowed to come to full iniquity at his appointed time.

It is hard to comprehend, I know. “And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.” (John 1:5) Just as the demons cannot comprehend the Light, we cannot comprehend this kind of darkness. But it is soon coming to that as the normal state of things, and they will get a lot worse after we are gone and the antichrist rises to full evil.

The grace to cling to is two-fold. We are saved by God’s mercy, and we will be dwelling with Him soon! We have the Light, it is in us and nothing can snatch us out of His hand, ever. And second, the people who will be here after the rapture can turn to the Light. They can appeal to Him for forgiveness, and be with Him in the Light when it is all over. “In him was life, and that life was the light of men.” Jesus said, “I have come into the world as a light, so that no one who believes in me should stay in darkness.” (John 12:46) Jesus’ power and love reaches all of us, it could reach even that psycho man in Tenerife: as it had reached the Gadarene demoniac: “Then people came out to see what had happened, and when they came to Jesus, they found the man from whom the demons had gone sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind.” Nothing is impossible with God!! Praise Him forever!

Jesus was since the beginning

Before I was saved, the whole Jesus thing was pretty mystifying to me. It seemed so complicated, and weird, too. I mean, the blood and everything. [shudder]. And I definitely did not agree with the doctrine of sin, that notion that I was a bad person from birth and that I did or said or thought wrong things? Come ONNNN, man. I’m a nice person, not one sin in me. Not like that person over there. Or there. Or there…

The thing I thought was most weird was Jesus. I used to wonder, God must be pretty lame to keep trying things that don’t work. Humanity was created and then right away, fell into depravity. They got so bad that He sent the flood. Then He tried the temple and the Law and that didn’t work. So finally He sent Jesus, hoping that would stick. I’m not kidding. Before I was saved, and the scales fell from my eyes, that is what I thought.

I never knew that Jesus was not first born 2000 years ago.

Therefore it is of particular joy to me that I revel in verses that illustrate that Jesus was from the beginning. He wasn’t born on that cold night in Bethlehem when the angels proclaimed His arrival to the shepherds. He was with God from the beginning.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning.” (John 1:1) How lovely to reflect the same language God used in Genesis 1: “In the beginning…”

“I was appointed from eternity, from the beginning, before the world began.” (Proverbs 8:23) As Matthew Henry says, “The Son of God declares himself to have been engaged in the creation of the world. How able, how fit is the Son of God to be the Saviour of the world, who was the Creator of it! The Son of God was ordained, before the world, to that great work. Does he delight in saving wretched sinners, and shall not we delight in his salvation?” How wonderful that Jesus was anointed from the beginning to do the great and monumental work of saving humanity.

“And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.” (Colossians 1:17) Other versions say “in Him all things hold together.” He is not only before all things in honor and grandeur, but He is before all things in existence. Before the sun, before the earth, before the stars were made…He was, and is and is to come!

He is our timeless Jesus, who was before Abraham, before John (His forerunner), who was part of God’s plan since the beginning to redeem humanity to His bosom. Far from being a series of stumbling lurches toward the end of time, God and Jesus and the Holy Spirit are progressing in an orderly plan that is unfolding with humanity as its central work. His justice prepared this plan. His love has sustained this plan. His grace permeates this plan. His longsuffering has kept this plan. And in the end, His wrath will execute this plan.

THIS is the God I fully hurl myself toward, lovingly and fully, submitting to His attributes and His incomprehensible foreknowing. He knew I would. He knew that on December 3, 2003 between 3:15 and 3:30 in the afternoon, I would become His. It was His plan all along.

He was since the beginning. You may be coming late to the party, but you still have time until you draw your last breath to become a knowing participant in His plan and to be saved from your sins. His love never fails.

“For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face; now I know in part, but then I will know fully just as I also have been fully known. But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love.” (1 Corinthians 13:12-13)

Here is a 2011 disaster roundup for the year so far, with less than half the year gone. Statistics were gathered from this week’s Hal Lindsey report. It is pretty sobering to read this list, and it doesn’t even include most of the rest of the world which has had their share of disasters.

In the American south, there were massive thunderstorms that spawned 266 tornadoes within a 24/hr period. People in 5 states were killed.

One tornado was clocked as an EF-5 (highest tornado rating, with winds in excess 200/mph)

One twister was 1.5miles wide, was at least EF-4 and was on the ground for an unthinkable 80mi!

The record for single day of number of twisters was super-outbreak 1974, when 267 twisters touched down.
The highest number of  tornadoes in single month was May 2003, when 558 touched down. May is historically the worst twister month.

April 2011 there were 871 tornadoes, shattering ALL records!

This year so far there have been many disaster records tied or broken:

Jan: Australia had floods of biblical proportion
Jan: Floods occurred throughout world including massive floods in Brazil.
Feb: a deadly earthquake flattened Christchurch NZ
March: a 9.1 quake in Japan, so powerful it moved Honshu Island and shifted earth on its axis.
Mar: Tsunami washed away much of Japan’s coastline
Mar: Tsunami caused nuclear meltdown at Fukushima, which is still ongoing

All year, ongoing :
–unexplained eq swarm in Arkansas, with thousands of continual earthquakes
–record drought
–record snow
–record cold
–catastrophic wildfires in TX
–Midwest historic flooding

This year already there have been 23 FEMA fedederal disaster declarations. In addition,

–The US is involved in 3 separate wars
–The Middle east erupted in chaos
–Oil prices are skyrocketing
–US Dollar is in freefall
–UN warns of severe food shortages worldwide

This is not normal. This is not global warming, either. This is Jesus. Jesus said that prior to His return, the earth would experience wars, rumors wars, famines, earthquakes, unrest, international tension. He said that these things would begin slowly and increase in frequency and intensity the closer we got to His appearing. (To when He returns bodily on the earth, not the rapture when He meets His Bride in the air and does not return all the way to earth).

You need to be ready. Being ready means being saved. Period. If you are reading this and are not saved, don’t let the rapture and the Tribulation judgments be the sign that you needed all along to convince you. Prepare your heart to receive the conviction of the Holy Spirit NOW, and then repent in all sincerity while there is still time join us in the church age. Repent simply means being sorry for the bad things you have thought, said, and did. And asking Jesus to forgive those. God’s justice was satisfied in Jesus’ death and shed blood, so you need not pay the penalty for your sin-crimes. And besides, you never know which day your end will come, it is of utmost eternal importance to be prepared to meet Jesus as His friend and not His enemy. Because, you WILL meet Jesus, one way or another.

If you are reading this and you THINK you are saved but have niggling doubts, or you assent intellectually that Jesus lived and died, but never really believed in His deity, you also need to allow the Holy Spirit to convict you toward sincere repentance. The longer you let it ride the more likely it is that He will give you over to your hard heart. Don’t resist the Spirit if you feel Him drawing you. And finally if you know that you KNOW that you are saved but it has been a while since you repented of a daily sin, please do that now. Don’t let anything hinder your walk with Jesus or obstruct your prayer life, with your praise going up and His blessings flowing down. Keep the lines of communication open.

Friends, it is too late to play games. Get serious. The generation is this one. Your days are numbered. The time is now.

Gaia & Mother Nature vs. God; Earth Day vs. Easter

With the weather going crazy in Africa, and in the US, people have been hard-pressed when called to comment on what is going on.

Rare waterspouts cause excitement in Hawaii
“A rare waterspout formed off the coast of Hawaii on Monday and was caught in several pictures and videos.”

Storm unleashes waterspouts, hail
“Wild weather and power failures challenged residents last night as Mother Nature unleashed much of her repertoire, including thunderstorms, lightning strikes, heavy rain and even tall, dramatic waterspouts off Honolulu Harbor and hail in Upcountry Maui and Hawaii island.”

Mother Nature, eh?

Here are some amazing photos of the waterspouts associated with that same storm in Hawaii, that also brought hail, an unusual weather event to be sure. And, ahem, that’s DOUBLE waterspout, bub.

Waterspout picture
Waterspout video

I’ve been interested to note the kind of language being used when reporters report in the recent weather disasters. Apparently it is all due to the Mighty Mississippi and its wrath, Gaia, and Mother Nature. LOL, why not throw in Pele and Poseidon while we’re at it?

Actual headline: Can We Make Peace with Gaia this Earth Day?
Headline I prefer to see: “Can we make Peace with Jesus this Resurrection Sunday?”

Actual headline: “Memphis braces for mighty Mississippi’s wrath
Headline I prefer to see: “Memphis braces for God’s wrath”

Actual headline: “Let it rain: How to survive the water ban; Rely on Mother Nature to green the lawn, wash the car and stay cool
Headline I prefer to see: “Latter rain: How to survive the Tribulation; rely on Jesus to save the soul, wash the sin, and stay alive forever”

Actual quote: On the Mississippi flood: “Nicholls State University biology professor Earl Melancon Jr. … “It’s Mother Nature giving us another blow after what BP did last year,” he said.”
Quote I’d like to see: “Jesus Saves college theology professor Pharisee Leaven said “It’s Jesus giving us another blow after what sins we committed last year”.

So Gaia is real and can be wrathful, but not God. Mother Nature is mad at humans but never let it be said that God is angry at His children. They celebrate Earth Day but downplay Easter. Below is from HotAir conservative blog:

Media hammers Easter while celebrating Earth Day
“It’s Holy Week for the world’s Christians, leading to the most significant event on the calendar, Easter Sunday. How does the national media cover such a significant week? The Media Research Center took a look at the media coverage from last year’s Holy Week and compared it to coverage of Earth Day. Who did better, Jesus or Gaia?”

–Media Undermine Christian Holiday: Nearly two thirds of all stories about Easter were negative (22 out of 34).
–Easter Used to Attack Catholic Church: Ninety-one percent of the negative Easter stories were about the pedophilia scandal in the Roman Catholic Church.
-Love That Mother Nature: 100 percent of Earth Day stories were positive.

Well, I am glad I am a friend of Jesus. I am glad I can and do attribute the glory to Him, and not Gaia, Mother Nature, the Mighty Mississippi, or any other false god. The bible has some things to say about idolatry.

Having other gods is forbidden: “I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me. (Exodus 20:2-3)

Worshiping other gods is forbidden: “There shall no strange god be in thee; neither shalt thou worship any strange god.” (Psalms 81:9)

Speaking in the name of other gods is forbidden: “But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die.” (Deuteronomy 18:20)

Swearing by other gods is forbidden: “That ye come not among these nations, these that remain among you; neither make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to swear by them, neither serve them, nor bow yourselves unto them:” (Joshua 23:7)

Changing the truth of God onto a lie is forbidden: “They exchanged God’s truth for a lie and worshiped and served the creation rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.” (Romans 1:25)

I am glad He wrote down for us what He thinks, feels, and expects of us. I am glad I am a Christian, following Jesus and applying His biblical precepts to my life the best I can. Put simply, I’m glad I know Jesus. Do you?

Are Ahmadinejad’s days numbered? Reportedly asked to resign

An Examiner article states that Arab TV has reported that the Iran’s Supreme Leader Khameini has asked President Ahmadinejad of Iran to step down. If true, it indicates a tightening of the strife that has burst onto the surface between the two over the last two weeks. I’d reported that Ahmadinejad was sulking for 8 days, after he had asked his chief to resign and that request was immediately vetoed by the Supreme Leader. Ahmadinejad did not like being vetoed and immediately went underground, dispensing with his public duties, canceling a trip to Qom, declining to make any speeches, and being absent from the Parliament.

Ahmadinejad’s absence from parliament was promptly decried by the Ministers, and 219 of the 290 wrote a letter to Ahmadinejad asking him to return to duties and cease his work-boycott and his unwillingness to submit to the Supreme Leader. No go.

Now there are rumors that Arab TV has reported last night that the President has been asked to step aside. Normally I wait to publish something like this on my blog, except that the rumor was picked up and reported by BNO Twitter News, the most reliable and fastest news outlet on the web.

In addition, in a strange piece yesterday I’d read in The Guardian (UK), Ahmadinejad’s closest allies were accused of practicing sorcery and communicating with unknown worlds, and arrested. It was reported:
“Ahmadinejad allies charged with sorcery”
Iranian power struggle between president and supreme leader sees arrests and claims of undue influence of chief of staff
Photo: “Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and his chief of staff, Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei, who is described as ‘the actual president of Iran’ by allies of the country’s supreme leader.”
“Close allies of Iran’s president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, have been accused of using supernatural powers to further his policies amid an increasingly bitter power struggle between him and the country’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Several people said to be close to the president and his chief of staff, Esfandiar Rahim Mashaei, have been arrested in recent days and charged with being “magicians” and invoking djinns (spirits).”

If Ahmadinejad resigns, you can bet that he will be replaced with someone even more fanatical. Iran (Persia in  he bible) is prophesied to be an aggressor in the very last of the last days, sparking a war that trips the world over to the Tribulation. (Ezekiel 38-39). Stay tuned. If this much is made public coming from the tightly controlled and secretive Iranian nation, then more will surface and soon either Ahmadinejad’s resignation or the refutation of his resignation will be reported also. I am staking my opinion toward the resignation. I think Ahmadinejad’s days are numbered.

Christianity’s other dirty word

I hear this a lot: “Oh, all that end times stuff is so negative” and, “I don’t want to read the negative parts, I like to focus on the positive.” I wrote the other day about one of the dirty words of Christianity: doctrine. The other dirty word in Christianity lately surfacing is “negative.”

People have an idea that reading Revelation, or the sections of books that discuss the end time are ‘too negative.’ I have a few things to say in response to that attitude, which is becoming a prevailing one.

Hogwash.

If the end time verses are ‘too negative,’ then that means Old Testament books like Haggai or Zephaniah, Jeremiah or Ezekiel or Micah or Zechariah or…well, most of the Old Testament, is “too negative.” Jeremiah preached 60 years without one convert. Most of his proclamations were ‘negative.’ If someone is too sensitive to read few verses in 1 or 2 Peter, or James, or Matthew, then how are they to stand all of the Old Testament?

More to my personal opinion, though, are my reasons for rejoicing in these scriptures. To me, they are not negative. They are positive. Now before I go further, let me clarify something. After the rapture when the Tribulation begins, it will be a horrible time. The 7 years in which God sends His judgments on the world will be horrible. There is nothing positive to say about that. However, during that time, there will be salvation. There will be grace, in the Two Witnesses and the angels that He sends to proclaim His truth. Those are positive things even in the face of terrible devastation. I don’t wish that time on anyone, but it is a fact that millions WILL go through it, including my family and many of my friends, so in that regard I believe it could be a positive if they indeed see the rapture and the Tribulation judgments as works of a Holy God and thus repent. Since they certainly are not repenting now, then the Tribulation could be the positive thing that helps them see their need for our Holy God.

In addition, I rejoice in His:

Justice
God’s Holy Character is one that includes love, and light, and joy. But His holy character also includes justice. I rejoice at the knowledge that the end time is a time of His justice. Sin will be wiped from the earth! (Dan 9:24).

Renewal
It will be a time of renewal of all things. (2 Peter 3:10)

Faithfulness
The promises He made long ago to rectify injustice, deal with sin, and to reverse the curse will be upheld! It gives me comfort to see that through his Judgments, His Holy character remains constant over epochs, culminating in these so-called ‘negative’ verses in the long-ago uttered promises. It shows His is faithful. He won’t forget.

Salvation
“And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.” (Rev 7:10) Many will be saved. In the long run, will one or two or three or even 7 years of Tribulation matter in the face of an eternity with Jesus? it is a blink, a statistical nothing compared to the eons the person saved will get to have with him!

Glorification
After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;” (Rev 7:9) Through His grace, we will be glorified in mind, heart, and body.

In sum, here is nothing negative about the end time. Truly, it’s all good!
