Aussie PM delivers mock Apocalypse message

Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard recorded a mock, tongue in cheek  doomsday message as a stunt for a radio show, Australian news is reporting,

“Julia Gillard has recorded a tongue-in-cheek video address to the nation warning the world is about to come to an apocalyptic end, as predicted in the Mayan calendar. In the 55-second spoof clip, recorded for Triple J radio, Ms Gillard addresses her “remaining fellow Australians” warning of zombies, hell beasts and a K-pop armageddon. With an emotionless delivery, the prime minister says the end of the world is coming not because of Y2K, or even the carbon tax, but “it turns out the Mayan calendar was true” “Whether the final blow comes from flesh-eating zombies, demonic hell beasts or from the total triumph of K-pop, if you know one thing about me it is this: I will always fight for you until the very end,” Ms Gillard says. “And at least this means I won’t have to do Q&A again.” The message was recorded to promote Tom and Alex’s “End of the World” radio show, which is set to air at 6am AEDT on Friday morning.”

Ms Gillard revealed during her campaign before she was elected that she is an atheist. The UK Daily Mail had reported back then that Gillard stated “I don’t believe in God.”

Two thoughts about this come quickly to mind. First, the world’s leaders are increasingly having a party rather than being the dignified and sober leaders we would wish them to be. Are they quietly and diligently attending to their people’s problems and leading with grace and ingenuity? No. They appear on late-night comedy shows and make jokes at the very problems their people are experiencing and which they are supposed to be solving. Or they use The People’s House to host celebrity-studded awards night and mingle among the 54 Christmas Trees. Leadership as an institution is dying.

Secondly, Ms Gillard is in spiritual pain. She does not know it because she has a reprobate mind. However, she mocks God in a dangerous way. No, the Mayan calendar is false, and does not predict anything except people’s gullibility in holding to false beliefs. But God is very real and He weeps over His people and their lost ways. For a world leader to mock the fact of coming doom and joke about an issue which her Christian constituents take very seriously (end of the world via God’s wrath) is just heart-breaking. Unfortunately, we know that unless she repents, she will discover the truth all too eternally.

I laughed at the clip. It is funny. Bu the end of the world is not. If our world’s leaders are not mocking the global situation, they are scurrying to and fro in vain attempts to try and solve it. Neither will come to anything more than wisps and smoke.

God’s 4 sore judgments: #1- Sword

Introduction
Part : Famine
Part 3: Pestilence

Wm Blake, Death on a pale horse, c. 1800

Yesterday I introduced a series examining the LORD’S “Four Sore Judgments.” In other translations they are called the “LORD’S Four Severe Judgments.” They’re mentioned in Ezekiel 14:21. The four are Sword, Famine, Pestilence, and Beasts.

Clarke’s commentary explains, “My four sore judgments – Sword, war. Famine, occasioned by drought. Pestilence, epidemic diseases which sweep off a great part of the inhabitants of a land. The Noisome Beast, the multiplication of wild beasts in consequence of the general destruction of the inhabitants.” Wesley’s notes says, “How much more – If they could not be able to keep off one of the four, how much less would they be able to keep off all four, when I commission them all to go at once.”

It is a very dread situation when all four are unleashed.

The LORD has unleashed one at a time at frequent intervals throughout the bible, in both the Old Testament (For ex Genesis 41:56) and the New (Acts 11:28). Infrequently, the LORD has unleashed all four at once. One example is bringing Ezekiel’s prophecy of chapter 14 to fruition in around 586BC at Jerusalem’s fall. The next time will be during the Tribulation. (Rev 6).

The Tribulation will be a time when all four are unleashed full strength. (Revelation 14:10). Let’s look at the first of the four severe judgments: Sword.

What is the sword? Laying aside one of the metaphors for the Word, which is the Truth of Jesus, it also means war. Hostility, violence. Jesus stated this would happen as a result of His coming, in Matthew 10:34, where the bible interprets the word for us. It means the opposite of peace:

“Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword.”

That kind of violence is the result of wicked men rebelling against the Gospel. The Sword also means war when God purposely brings war about as a judgment. Sometimes war is the result of the men’s reactions and sometimes it is direct cause by God. Just look at Ezekiel 38, when God plainly states that He will put hooks and in the jaws of Gog and bring him to Israel for war. (Ezekiel 38:4). Also see Romans 13:4, God brings war on the evildoer as judgment. The verse shows us unequivocally that not only does sword mean war, but that He has the authority to use it for His own Good ends.

The Sword judgment is seen in the second Tribulation judgment/second Seal/second Horseman of the Apocalypse. See–

“When he opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, “Come!” And out came another horse, bright red. Its rider was permitted to take peace from the earth, so that people should slay one another, and he was given a great sword.” “And I looked, and behold, a pale horse! And its rider’s name was Death, and Hades followed him. And they were given authority over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword and with famine and with pestilence and by wild beasts of the earth.” (Revelation 6:3-4; 8).

The sword is an symbol of war, of military slaughter, and is used here as signifying that that period would be characterized by carnage. Absolute carnage. How do I know it is absolute? Because not only is the point of the Tribulation to bring sin to the fullness (Daniel 9:24a) but because the Revelation verse says peace will be taken from the earth. Nowhere will there be a cessation of hostilities. Nowhere will be safe.

The Greek word for “great” sword is megas, from which we get Mega. ” large, great, in the widest sense.” I interpret this to mean that war will occur in its fullest, widest, most pervasive, most saturation possible. You really don’t want to be here on earth when the Tribulation Sword is unleashed.

Jesus said that the time will contain wars and rumors of wars. (Matthew 24:6). Wars that are talked about happening, or about to happen. The climate will be of violence ongoing and more piling on- that’s what wars and rumors of wars means. The Middle East is a tinderbox today, and the situation there is similar to Europe just before WWI. The assassination of Archduke Ferdinand by one man was all it took to spark a global war of devastating carnage. As this history website states it, “Two bullets fired on a Sarajevo street on a sunny June morning in 1914 set in motion a series of events that shaped the world we live in today. World War One, World War Two, the Cold War and its conclusion all trace their origins to the gunshots that interrupted that summer day. ” The difficulty of Sword at this tenuous time is the fact that one shot out of a unexpected country could be THE thing which sparks pre-Tribulation wars, and will definitely spark post-rapture Judgment wars.

The thing to ponder is that the Aurora Theater Massacre redefined violence. One of those redefinitions is that no parent or child or person of any kind will ever feel relaxed in a place that is designed for relaxing ever again. Gathering in public space with a faceless multitude is increasingly dangerous. Attending sports games, concerts, parades, or even in the relatively smaller venue of movie theaters is taking a chance. But increasingly, staying at home is dangerous too. People are breaking in brazenly, whether or not there is visible evidence of occupation. Home invasions are at an all time high. And murders on the street are just as bad.

Now imagine that feeling of discomfort and vigilance extended to a hyper degree, knowing nowhere is safe, ever. Because peace will be taken from the earth, and His sword will bring constant hostility, violence and carnage.

That would be bad enough, but Sword is only ONE of the four sore judgments. As the LORD said in Ezekiel 14:21, ‘how much worse will it be when all four are unleashed?’

His judgments are sore indeed. But I am convinced of one thing. We persevering saints are walking through trials and praying for strength to encourage others in these dark days, it is a good thing that it is so dark. Because as my heart sees more sin, more evil, more trampling on Jesus’ name, and I cry out to the Lord, how much BETTER will our joy be when we see Him? The lower we see the world descending, the higher we will see Him when He calls.

The next of the Four Severe Judgments we’ll examine will be Famine.

UPDATED–Arizona haboob dust storms: rare, or regular?

UPDATE: Saturday July 21 there was a dust storm (AKA haboob) in the Phoenix Arizona area. There is another one going on in Phoenix now, July 23, 2012. It was a quickly developing storm that took weather forecasters by surprise. The photo immediately below does not depict the July 21 storm.

Monday aft. dust storm

In learning that the average amount of these dust storms are two to three for any given summer season, the tally as of this moment is currently five. Just 12 hours ago it was four. Freak weather happening faster and faster. Today’s storm: (source)

 ————————–end update—————————-

On July 21, 2012, a massive dust storm hit Arizona. There are dramatic photos and videos of this storm event making the rounds on the internet. The July 21 storm was particularly harsh, and it knocked out power to thousands. These storms are called haboobs, from an Arabic word that means ‘blown.’ Winds can reach up to 50 miles an hour, and can obscure visibility to nothing in a matter of seconds. They can last a few minutes or up to three hours. The photos that are posted after the storm hits are often dramatic and eye-catching. Like this one at Huffington Post via AP from July 2011–

I’ve seen these photos for a couple years now. I got to wondering if haboobs are usual or unusual. (Usual). They happen in the summer, during what Arizona strangely calls their monsoon season, from June to September. They occur because there is a huge valley and air gets pushed down and thunder…well, you can read the explanation from a certified meteorologist here if you want.

I wrote about the July 2011 storm, here, in hopefully a straightforward, unspeculative manner. However, that storm, while occurring in normal manner at a normal time of year for haboobs, was especially ferocious. There were elements of that storm that seasoned weather forecasters had never seen before. One meteorologist is quoted in that article,

“But yesterday’s haboob was more like something you’d see in the Middle East or other arid regions around the world, said Ken Waters, the warning coordination meteorologist with the National Weather Service (NWS) in Phoenix. It was mind-boggling, just absolutely amazing,” Waters told OurAmazingPlanet. “I’ve been a meteorologist for years and I’ve not seen a wall of dust like that.””

We see prophetic events coming on us faster and faster now. We see the many earthquakes happen and we ask if they are happening more frequently now. (Yes). We see so many volcanoes erupting and we ask if there are more volcanoes erupting now. (Yes). So we always need to place an event in context and look at it from all angles before declaring that a single dust storm may be an omen of the Apocalypse. Are the events being described rare, or regular? Even if the event is common, were there elements of it that were unusual? What do people with knowledge say about the event?

We should do this so that we can share reasonable information with people. And the more reasonable we are the more credibility we’ll have. The more credibility we have, the more (perhaps) a lost person will listen. That is the goal.

Let’s take a look at haboobs of Arizona to see whether there is anything special to remark about.

We have established that haboobs are a regular feature of summer season in Arizona. The next question is, how many haboobs usually occur during the season? The Weather Channel’s Sean Breslin answers the question “Summer Arizona Haboobs: Rare or Regular?” saying that each season the area will see “a couple.” He noted that last year’s July 5, July 18 and August 18 storms were par for the course.

This article says that there are on average about three dust storms per year. OK, so a couple to three.

2012 has already produced four.

May 9, June 26, June 27, and July 21

That is one thing I look at, sheer numbers. Secondly, the haboob season is usually June to September and the first one this year already occurred outside the normal boundaries of the season. Then, look at a particular event to determine if there were unusual things about it. Last year’s July storm was particularly nasty, containing elements that meteorologists have not seen before, such as the height of the dust stretching into the atmosphere. Also the speed of the wind. And third, that storm produced more damage than usual.

This season there have been four already and the season is only half over. Also, there was an unusual event in that two of the haboobs occurred a day apart, back to back. As we go on with summer monsoon season in Arizona, now you have some background to let us know if more haboobs occur, it will be above the norm. It already is.

God’s Four sore judgments- Introduction

Part : Sword
Part : Famine
Part : Pestilence
Part : Beasts
—————
The rapture is an event that has no signs associated with it. It is based on the completion of the full number God has in mind to make up His church (Romans 11:25) and when that is reached He will tell His son to go get His bride. A trumpet will sound and with the voice of archangel, true believers will be instantly translated to an incorruptible body, meeting the dead in the air who shall rise first. (1 Thessalonians 4:15-16).

After this; “Simeon has related how God first visited the Gentiles, to take from them a people for his name. And with this the words of the prophets agree, just as it is written, “‘After this I will return, and I will rebuild the tent of David that has fallen; I will rebuild its ruins, and I will restore it, that the remnant of mankind may seek the Lord, and all the Gentiles who are called by my name, says the Lord, who makes these things known from of old.’” (Acts 15:14-17)

The remnant of mankind in my opinion in this verse are those who were not ready for the Lord when He called, being part of His bride, the global Church of born-again believers. This time is called The Tribulation (Matthew 24:9) or the Time of Jacob’s Trouble (Jeremiah 30:7), The Great Day of Wrath (Revelation 6:17), That Day (Joel 1:15) etc.

The bible has much to say about That Day. We are given graphic depictions of what will happen in it, for example, “their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their sockets, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.” (Zechariah 12:14b). “Then I saw an angel standing in the sun, and with a loud voice he called to all the birds that fly directly overhead, ‘Come, gather for the great supper of God, to eat the flesh of kings, the flesh of captains, the flesh of mighty men, the flesh of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all men, both free and slave, both small and great.'” (Revelation 19:17-18).

The rapture has no sign, it will be a sudden supernatural interruption of man’s life on earth. After this, the judgments will start. If we can see the set-up for the judgments happening, how much closer is the rapture? That is the only sign by which we may be able to tell the season of the Tribulation is closing in and thus that the rapture is even closer. “But you are not in darkness, brothers, for that day to surprise you like a thief.” (1 Thessalonians 5:4)

That is what this blog entry is about. So many people can clearly see the signs coming together for the Tribulation that we know and understand that the rapture is even closer. It is the season. It is the month. We don’t know the day or hour but it seems truly to be the metaphoric month, in other words, near. The return of the Jews to the Land in 1948 was a HUGE HUGE sign, and the reunification of Jerusalem in 1967 was also huge. How close are we? Only God knows. The point is, be ready.

Therefore the judgments are near also. The fire circle is cleared, the stones are laid, the wood is placed, the tinder is on top and the match is lit. All that needs to happen to trigger the judgments is the lit match to be put on the tinder.

God judges and in so doing He has different judgments He dispenses. He has a set of four that He considers especially severe. Ezekiel 14:21 lists them: sword, famine, pestilence, and the beasts of the earth.

“For thus says the Lord GOD, “How much more when I send My four severe judgments against Jerusalem: sword, famine, wild beasts and plague to cut off man and beast from it!”

Wesley’s notes on Ezekiel 14:21 say, “How much more – If they could not be able to keep off one of the four, how much less would they be able to keep off all four, when I commission them all to go at once.”

During the Tribulation, in Revelation 6:8, the fourth horseman of the Apocalypse, the fourth judgment seal, lets loose these four sore plagues all at once.We will take a look at what the biblical application of these individual judgments were in the past and what the news shows us is the nearness of all four today.

Part 1 will take a look at “Sword” in the context of the final judgment, the Tribulation. Part 2, “Famine”. Part 3, “Pestilence.” And part 4, “Beasts.”

Mushroom like cloud forms, sparking fears of an armageddon-like event

Mushroom like cloud forms, sparking fears an armageddon-like event was underway. This happened in Beijing. “An enormous mushroom cloud formed in the sky over Beijing late last week, sparking fears that a cataclysmic, Armageddon-like event was underway. Alas, it was not the end of the world—or worse, the beginning of a real-life movie starring Will Smith: It was just nature. The giant cumulonimbus—which spanned several miles—was accompanied by lightning, swallowing up the capital’s skyline for an hour, according to the Daily Mail. Photographers and videographers captured images of Thursday’s ominous-looking formation, which “gradually took the shape of an atomic bomb.”

Two weeks ago a weird yellow haze formed in the Chinese city of Wuhan, too. Here is a pic of the mushroom cloud. That is one scary cloud! And the lightning, too!

Did you notice that many of headlines these days refer to the apocalypse?

Apocalypse-like hailstorm in Dallas
Election Apocalypse: Greeks hoard canned food
Drachmageddon? Middle-class poverty. Feral gangs. Neo-Nazis. Athens waits for the volcano to explode
Zombie Apocalypse: Bath Salts Emergency Calls Increase Dramatically in Indiana
Apocalypse now, but we just carry on regardless

‘Drachmageddon”… “Election Apocalypse”, “Apocalypse-like hailstorm..” etc. … Yet here is an irony–

Young people’s belief in God, Judgment Day plummets
“Pew asked respondents in the poll to agree or disagree with the statement: “I never doubted the existence of God.”Sixty-eight percent of those in the Millennial Generation agreed, a figure that has dropped 15 percent in the past five years. Eighty-three percent of under-30 respondents in 2007 said they had never doubted God’s existence. The figures perhaps reflect the increasing boldness of atheist authors and philosophers in public debate, or perhaps the less-than-stellar behavior of prelates who proclaim God’s word. Pew laid out a second statement in its poll: “We all will be called before God at the Judgment Day to answer for our sins.” The Millennial Generation is likewise showing doubt of Judgment Day: 67 percent agreed with the statement, down from 74 percent in 2007.”

That’s what I mean when I say ‘irony’- that though fewer people say they don’t believe in apocalypse, more and more the secular world is talking about it.

The Last Family on Earth: the Apocalyptic survival game show!

source

Surviving the apocalypse is now a game show. I am not making this up. There has been a recent worldwide spike in interest in prepping for the chosen calamity of the month. Daily, hourly, we are inundated with news and theories of the imminence of the end of the world. (Yes, I am aware of the irony in what I just wrote.)

If the end doesn’t come by supervolcano eruption, it’ll for sure be asteroid collision, earthquake, plague, civilization’s collapse, society’s collapse, US implosion, or definitely the Mayan apocalypse. It seems that every other movie released these days has an apocalyptic theme. We have been subjected to a plethora of end of the world movies just in the last couple of years, such as The Book of Eli, The Road, War of the Worlds, I Am Legend, 2012, and so on. Let’s not leave out the movies about doom by plague, such as Contagion, 12 Monkeys, and Outbreak.

There have also been constant television documentaries about how the world could end, proposing real scenarios and depicting in graphic detail the doom that awaits. BBC’s End Day is incredibly compelling, as is History Channel’s After Armageddon.

Of the doomsday pantheon of reality television shows we recently had “Doomsday Preppers” added to the media-pushed doomsday scene. Speaking of the Doomsday Preppers show, on its homepage, we read the following:

Which Disaster Scenario is Trending? Will it be a megaquake, economic collapse, global pandemic, a 2012 cataclysm, nuclear war, solar-flare-induced power failures, or an extreme oil crisis that leads to the unraveling of society? Using Twitter, we are mining the chatter to see what is at the forefront of the public’s collective consciousness. Find out what the masses are saying, and see which catastrophe is on top of the Doomsday Dashboard.” (PS, as of this writing running ahead of the pack with 30% of the chatter, it’s Nuclear War as the likeliest scenario that does humanity in.)

As a result of all this, there is a booming business in survival bunkers, an issue I wrote about in July 2010, here. In that blog essay two years ago, I mentioned the company Vivos and their bunkers, and how they were selling like hotcakes- then. Apparently the demand has grown exponentially, and no wonder, with the barrage of media messages that the world is about to end. Because Doomsday Preppers was such a success, you KNOW that television producers hot to copy the concept won’t leave it alone for more than a minute. So this brings us to the point of the blog entry: a new reality game show, “The Last Family On Earth.” And a Vivos bunker is the grand prize. Here is their blurb–

“Produced by Pilgrim Studios, the six-episode one-hour series will premiere on Spike TV this fall, with the finale airing just in time for the family to move into their bunker, built by Vivos, the leader in this type of structure construction, and await the world’s potential cataclysmic demise on December 21, as predicted by the Mayan calendar. The families chosen to participate come from a wide variety of backgrounds and are among the 15% of the world’s population, according to a recent Reuters poll, who believe the end of civilization is near. The competition will showcase survival techniques and provide key information that like-minded viewers may also use in preparation for doomsday. In addition to endurance and physical skills, challenges will test the contestants’ leadership abilities, integrity and character. A panel of three survivalist-expert judges, along with viewer input via social media, will help determine which family is eliminated each week. Last Family On Earth will not only focus on the Mayan interpretation of the Apocalypse; the show will help prime contestants for a wide range of annihilation scenarios, including a pandemic, global government or economic collapse, nuclear war, reactor meltdowns, solar flares, massive asteroids, lethal climactic change, a pole shift, calamitous earthquakes, and even widespread anarchy.”

Wow, that’s a lot of annihilation scenarios. But they forgot one. Included in the list should be a Wrathful God Pouring Out His Anger on Sinful Society.

I will flatly state that indeed, yes, there will be doomsday events that are going to happen. There will be meteors and asteroids and earthquakes and superflu and plagues and hurricanes and tsunamis and supervolcano eruptions and societal collapse. It will happen, the earth’s people will die like flies. (Isaiah 51:6). All the above and more will occur within a 7-year period of ever faster unrolling and eventually overlapping events that will dizzy the surviving world. The bible’s last book, Revelation, in addition to lengthy excerpts in Matthew 24, Isaiah, Ezekiel, Amos, and many other of the bible’s books, predict it. The bible is 100% true. If it is predicted, it will come to pass.

Two of the reasons doomsday is predicted to occur is that according to Daniel 9:24, God is going to allow the transgression to be finished, and then He will put an end to sin.

“Seventy weeks are decreed about your people and your holy city, to finish the transgression, to put an end to sin, and to atone for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal both vision and prophet, and to anoint a most holy place.” (Daniel 9:24)

The Hebrew word for transgression is a national, moral, or religions revolt. The Hebrew word for to put an end to is to accomplish, to complete, or to come to the full.

God is planning to remove His Bride, the born again believers that comprise the Church, (1 Cor 15:51-55; 1 Thess 4:13-18) and accompanying that removal is the removal of the Holy Spirit in His restraining ministry, (2 Thess 2:7) and then allow sin to run wild, until sin is accomplished to the full. (Dan 9:24, 2 Thess 2:3). This is known as the Tribulation, or the Time of Jacob’s Trouble. The world will be completely saturated with sin, all kinds and every kind.

Sin is anything we think, say, or do that displeases God and His laws. (Mt 22:37-40). Sin is defined in the bible as transgression of the law of God (1 John 3:4) and rebellion against God (Deuteronomy 9:7; Joshua 1:18). Left, The Temptation and fall of Eve, Artist: William Blake

There will be no place for sinners to hide. Not even a Vivos bunker.

God will punish for hubris. Pride is something that God abhors, and it is the pinnacle of pride to believe that man’s cleverness in building an underground bunker will protect Him from the Creator of All things on His Day of Wrath.

It’s counter-intuitive.

“and I will break the pride of your power, and I will make your heavens like iron and your earth like bronze.” (Leviticus 26:19).

We have no power. It is all given by God.

Revelation App

This is the full context of the above verse: “But if you will not listen to me and will not do all these commandments, if you spurn my statutes, and if your soul abhors my rules, so that you will not do all my commandments, but break my covenant, then I will do this to you: I will visit you with panic, with wasting disease and fever that consume the eyes and make the heart ache. And you shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it. I will set my face against you, and you shall be struck down before your enemies. Those who hate you shall rule over you, and you shall flee when none pursues you. And if in spite of this you will not listen to me, then I will discipline you again sevenfold for your sins, and I will break the pride of your power, and I will make your heavens like iron and your earth like bronze.” (Lev 26:14-19)

In the Leviticus chapter, God explains to His people that obedience brings manifold blessings, the glories and wonders that being in right relationship with God will deliver. But disobedience brings woes. If they are contemptuous of His warnings, if they dismiss his corrections, if they ignore His punishments, then their final days will be of terror. It is the same with the people living at the end of days. Who can stand? None. Vivos bunker or not, the only way to stand will be in Christ.

That said, let’s talk about being in Christ for a moment. Who wouldn’t want to be a friend to the Savior? Obedient to the Holy God who descended from glory to submit to the Father and take His wrath for us? We CAN stand, thanks to Jesus and His sacrifice. We WILL stand on the day He brings us to him, joyously singing praises. Read this. Really read it. Let its majesty soak in.

“After this I looked, and there before me was a door standing open in heaven. And the voice I had first heard speaking to me like a trumpet said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after this.”

“At once I was in the Spirit, and there before me was a throne in heaven with someone sitting on it. And the one who sat there had the appearance of jasper and ruby. A rainbow that shone like an emerald encircled the throne. Surrounding the throne were twenty-four other thrones, and seated on them were twenty-four elders. They were dressed in white and had crowns of gold on their heads. From the throne came flashes of lightning, rumblings and peals of thunder. In front of the throne, seven lamps were blazing. These are the seven spirits of God.”

“Also in front of the throne there was what looked like a sea of glass, clear as crystal. In the center, around the throne, were four living creatures, and they were covered with eyes, in front and in back. The first living creature was like a lion, the second was like an ox, the third had a face like a man, the fourth was like a flying eagle. Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under its wings. Day and night they never stop saying:

“‘Holy, holy, holy
is the Lord God Almighty,’
who was, and is, and is to come.”

“Whenever the living creatures give glory, honor and thanks to him who sits on the throne and who lives for ever and ever, the twenty-four elders fall down before him who sits on the throne and worship him who lives for ever and ever. They lay their crowns before the throne and say: “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.” (Revelation 4)

Believers will be there. We will see that. Repentance to Jesus and Godly sorrow for our sins, faith in Him as Savior and Lord is what it takes to be in right relationship with God. Please repent now, don’t hide in a bunker. Stand up for Jesus by bowing your knee and inclining your heart to the One who wants to know you as friend, not come after you as His enemy.

My biography: An interview via email

Today is the day the Apocalypse This zine goes on sale at the Nottingham Zine Fair. I was asked to contribute a piece for the magazine. Here is the backstory. Below is the Bio I was asked to write for the zine.

 ——————

question 1- About me:

My name is Elizabeth Prata: I am a 51 year old writer and photographer who was born and bred in New England but moved to Georgia a few years ago. I have been a teacher for a good portion of my professional life. I have my Masters degree in Literacy Education. In addition to blogging, I also worked as a freelance journalist for three newspapers (one daily and two weeklies).

question 2- Why did I create a blog about the end of the world?

Shortly after I became a Christian at age 43, I decided to put my degree and my writing skills to work for Jesus, and share the Good News that He saves. I started the blog because I want non-believers to know what is ahead for them if they don’t turn to Jesus and ask him to forgive their sins, and for believers to be comforted by these words of His coming. (1 Thess 5:11, 1 Thess 4:18). I believe we are the prophesied generation that will see these things come to pass.

question 3- “There are a lot of people out there who are preparing themselves for the destruction of the planet by building bunkers etc, but if it is the will of God that the world should end, then by trying to survive are we going against God?”

It is the plan of God that the world will end. It is ‘the will of the Father that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.” (John 6:40). The bible tells us first, those who believe on the Son are within His will, and are to worry for nothing on this earth. He will provide for us. (Matthew 6:25-34). He provided manna for the Israelites every day in the desert. He provides for His children. Not hoarding shows Him we trust Him to carry out His promises. Secondly, He told Christians we’re not destined for wrath, and the Apocalypse is a time of wrath. So, we won’t even be here. The point is to share money and stuff He gives us with people as much as possible, now. Not to hoard it: “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.” (Matthew 6:19). Christians who do store up are a poor witness, and non-Christians who store up are doing what they feel is best for them and their families, so who can blame them? However they will find that in the end their bunkers do them no good. Jesus is bigger than a bunker.

question 4- Is 2012 the end?

There are two answers. Is this the year of the beginning of the prophesied 7-year Apocalypse? Could be. Looks like it is coming closer every day. I personally believe it’s likely. No one knows for sure though. However, it is not the end of the world. The bible says that the earth continues for 1000 years after the 7-year Apocalypse. This is called the Millennial Kingdom. THEN the earth is destroyed. It melts away in a fervent heat. (2 Peter 3:10). After that?

Only God knows. But it will be good, whatever it is!

Apocalypse This: at Nottingham Zine Fair today

A little while back, UK graphic designer, fashion student and editor Loren Kristie Aldridge asked me to contribute an article to her zine which would be sold at the 2nd Annual Nottingham Zine Fair. She was putting together a ‘zine about the apocalypse and wanted me to contribute something from the Christian point of view. She asked me for a bio and also to spend 800 or so words describing what is going to happen according to the Christian version of the apocalypse, and why I believe the Apocalypse is going to happen. It was a tall order to be that broad but have so few words to say it all in, but the Holy Spirit was gracious and led me to what I feel is a good product.

Her product came out great, I really like it from what I could glean from photos. Here is her final version of the zine:

Here is what my article’s page looks like. I like it.

This is an article about the Nottingham Zine Fair: “The rise of online publishing’s all very well, if you’re into all that technical rammel but for those with more tactile ambitions, who still hanker after old school printing and the smell of yer actual paper, you might want to get ye sens down to Spanky Van Dykes on the 26 May where the Raw Print Club will host it’s 2nd annual ‘Nottingham Zine Fair’. The event will be a mecca for lovers of zines, indie magazines and artist books of all shapes and sizes. According to Matt Gill, university lecturer, graphic designer and founder of Raw Print Club the day is ‘all about showcasing creativity and also bringing lots of different people together who have a love for print…So don’t tek our word for it, go along and have a proper good day out, read and buy some zines, talk to like minded people over a few jars of ale and dance your self silly at the aftershow party.”

It sounds like a lot of fun, actually. I wish I was going.

For the folks who aren’t in the zine world, a zine – pronounced zeen – as derived from magazine – is defined by Wiki as an independently- or self-published booklet, often created by a single person. Zines are customarily created by physically cutting and gluing text and images together onto a master flat for photocopying, but it is also common to produce the master by typing and formatting pages on a computer. The end product is usually folded and stapled. Zines can be printed and bound in any manner. Offset printing is a relatively common alternative to photocopying…” I remember putting together small print zines myself by ditto machine and staples, lol.

Zines are most commonly a small circulation publication of original or appropriated texts and images. More broadly, the term encompasses any self-published work of minority interest usually reproduced via photocopier.

Martin Luther and early American Revolution pamphleteers such as Thomas Paine were technically zinesters. A zine is simply a self-published print medium of focused theme and small circulation. Often there was only one edition. More often, the minority interest contained in the zine was of a more alternative nature.

In Thomas Paine’s and Martin Luther’s day the minority interest of alternative nature was anti-government or anti-pope, a dangerous position indeed, often carrying with it a death sentence for treason or heresy. This was because small pamphlets had the potential of having a huge impact on capturing the vox populi despite large corporate or governmental control of information and thus perception of the status quo. Just think the moment on October 31, 1517, when, according to traditional accounts, Luther’s 95 Theses were nailed to the door of the Castle Church. It turned the world upside down. Just think of Thomas Paine’s Common Sense, it having the effect of galvanizing the Colonies toward revolution.

In the modern era of the 1900s and especially by the 1960s and onward, the subject was often was prurient, such as touting homosexuality, lesbianism, or BDSM lifestyles, subjects no standard publishing house would touch. One HAD to self-publish in those days.

I was always involved with print, as a journalist, academic, short story writer and general lover of all things print in the three dimensional media. I was born in 1960, with personal computers coming on the scene soon but before the internet. Getting something published was a hard go, because the NY publishing houses had a lock on the print media in terms of magazines and books, so zines were often the only alternative for the enterprising writer with something to say. As with anything first-generation, self-publishing was crude but satisfying. The 1980s brought punk zines, and computer bulletin boards, and then in the 1990s we had the explosion of self-publishing due to the widespread connectivity of the internet and easily obtained word processing software. In the early 2000s the blog was born. Now we have Facebook, Youtube, blogs, Twitter, personal websites and more. Self-Publishing has had a huge impact on the industry. Now, anyone with a computer can have a voice that may impact the world.

Nowadays, sophisticated software such as Adobe Illustrator allows for more aesthetically pleasing products, such as you see with Ms Aldridge’s Apocalypse This zine above.

As time has gone on, I note that these days, the minority interest subject is often Christianity. The subjects no self-respecting publishing house would touch before 1980, 1970, 1960 are now deemed ‘normal’, such as homosexuality, alternative lifestyles etc. Publishers and broadcasters only produce things with subjects that have wide appeal and thus will make them money. On television we regularly view shows promoting perverted structures of family, showing open sexual acts, and worse subjects, such as cannibalism or serial killing as entertainment, subjects one never even discussed inside a home, never mind touted on a global medium. But it sells. Christianity doesn’t.

I know that in the days to come and after the rapture when the antichrist will control media & information and thus perception, and that self-published small zines, or even portions of the bible will once again attain underground status and will have to be circulated stealthily. The openly circulated is the perverse and the stealthily circulated will be the pure.

Isaiah 5:20 warns, “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.” Jesus warned in Matthew 6:22-23, “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!”

I am humbled and grateful to have been asked to contribute to Apocalypse This zine. Due to the alternative nature of zines these days, having a piece about Jesus in and amongst the other subjects means that people will read the Gospel who don’t normally come across it. Please pray that the Spirit sends all the right people to today’s Nottingham Zine Fair whose heart is ready to receive the truth.

I’ll post what I wrote for the zine and  link to it. And also here. Meanwhile, right now there are hordes of youths ambling through aisles under the sun at Nottingham, looking for…something. I pray they find Jesus.

This and that

Hi Folks,

This piece is just a chat. It won’t be a deep theological treatise nor a blurb on the news of the day. We are a day and a half from the end of the school year, and let me tell you, the kindergarteners are restless! I’m pooped.

I usually get most of the blog comments overnight. I wake up at 6:00am and turn on the computer and there will be comments waiting for me to moderate. This morning there were four on one topic. I deleted them all. They were responding to the Jentezen Franklin piece. It’s interesting that the Jentezen Franklin post and its companion piece still gets notice and comment. Amazingly, the Franklin false teacher post gets a lot more comments than the Beth Moore false teacher essays I did. It is usually the opposite, I’m told by other evangelicals. An essay stating Beth Moore is anything except either an angel or a saint usually gets plenty of screed. But my readers, bless them, save their screed for the Franklin post.

I deleted all the Franklin comments this morning because they were screed. Any comments that say such things as “You’re a poopyhead for thinking this” won’t get past the draft screen. I post comments that either support or take issue with my posts that are polite and/or have bible verses to back them up. I won’t write a ‘comment policy’ because commenting is common sense. It is like a conversation- listen, share, be polite. Name calling is never an argument, unless it is an argument for instant delete.

On another topic, I have been thinking about prophecy education. For the last two weeks I’ve been musing about pulling back from the detailed view to share and present the wider view on the blog instead. An overview, even. And this week Pastor JD Farag said he was doing exactly that. And Jack Kelley has started revamping his Revelation overviews and has pulled back the lens. I had been thinking of dong a general overview of what will happen after the rapture, or perhaps a chronology. It seems the Spirit is pressing this idea to me and to others so I’ll pray some more and see how to proceed.

I was asked by the publishers of a new ‘zine to contribute to it. The topic is the Apocalypse, and the name of the zine is Apocalypse This. It will be sold at the Nottingham Zine Fair on May 26. I was asked to share the Christian view. The zine will contain other religions’ views as well. You can find the website for the zine here, and twitter here. Here is the Facebook page for the fair. Prayers are appreciated that the truth of the Word will reach the youths who are curious about a false Apocalypse but are unaware of the looming real one.

Speaking of the looming apocalypse, does it feel like a heavy burden of weight and presence to you? It feels so close. The European financial and economic crisis certainly adds portent to the events. The line-up of hostile nations in the Middle East certainly add portent. But even the news aside, the feeling of imminence is weightier every day. I don’t think it is a feeling of exhaustion that I usually feel this time of year, lol. It just feels like prophecy is speeding up.

Remember, prophecy is set before us in His word so that before it comes to pass, we may be prepared; and so that when it comes to pass, we may believe and worship Him who is outside of time and He who writes history beforehand.

“Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, Or ever You had formed the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.” (Psalm 90:1-2)

Pope highlights Mary’s role as ‘woman of the apocalypse’. Too bad the bible doesn’t.

Well. This is certainly very interesting. The Catholic News Agency on December 8 published the following news piece:

Pope highlights Mary’s role as ‘woman of the apocalypse’
Pope Benedict XVI reflected on the biblical description of a “woman clothed with the sun” in his remarks at Rome’s Spanish Steps on the 2011 Feast of the Immaculate Conception. “What is the meaning of this image? It represents the Church and Our Lady at the same time,” the Pope told the crowd assembled before the nearby statue commemorating the 1854 definition of Mary’s Immaculate Conception. “Before all, the ‘woman’ of the apocalypse is Mary herself.” The 12th chapter of the Biblical Apocalypse – also known as the Book of Revelation – describes the glorification and persecution of “a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a crown of twelve stars.” Though not named, this woman is described as the mother of the Messiah. In poetic language akin to the Bible’s other prophetic books, Saint John says she faced the threat of “a huge red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns,” and “fled into the desert where she had a place prepared by God.”

The Pope is welcome to his interpretation, but since the Catholic Church has misrepresented so much else (hell/purgatory, Mary as perpetual virgin, Mary ascended sinless to heaven, indulgences, justification by works, saint worship and more) then let us view with skepticism that Pope Benedict is right about the woman of Revelation being Mary. If she is not, then what is the more proper exegetical view of the woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head? (Revelation 12:1b).

The woman is not the Church. The woman is Israel.

Remember the dream Joseph had in Genesis 37:9? “And he dreamed yet another dream, and told it his brethren, and said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more; and, behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me.” The 12 tribes of Israel were borne through Jacob, his father. The stars refer to the twelve tribes of Israel.

Further, she is giving birth to Messiah. “While it is true that Mary gave birth to Jesus, it is also true that Jesus, the son of David from the tribe of Judah, came from Israel. In a real sense, Israel gave birth—or brought forth—Christ Jesus. Further evidence for this is in 12:5 where the Scripture says that the woman “gave birth to a son, a male child, who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron; and her child was caught up to God and to His throne.” Clearly, this is describing Jesus.” (Source GotQuestions.org)

The lessons here are several. First, even when a supposed spiritual authority makes an interpretation, it may not be correct. Be a Berean and search these things out for yourself. Paul was a spiritual authority, taught by the risen Jesus Himself but still applauded the Bereans for checking what he said against scripture. (Acts 17:11). He called them noble for doing it.

Second, scripture interprets scripture. That may not mean that one verse has to be next to the other in order to give fuller meaning to an understanding. Joseph had his dream in Genesis and the woman is mentioned again in Revelation. But scripture tells us if we appeal to the Holy Spirit for understanding, He will give it without rebuke. (James 1:5).

Third, the Catholic Church is almost obsessively focused on Mary and not nearly enough on Jesus. The lesson here is to make sure to give your focus and attention on the proper spiritual center of the universe, Jesus, in Whom all things hold together. (Col 1:17). It is not by any other name we are saved. (Acts 4:12).
