The Inner Life of the Cell: A Scientific Marvel Explained

By Elizabeth Prata

SYNOPSIS

The article highlights the complex workings of cells, particularly through the animation “The Inner Life of the Cell,” which showcases scientific animation’s potential. Ultimately, it reveals the Creator’s intelligence in creating these complex systems.

You know how people say that we’ve explored all the earth’s surface but we know less about what is under the ocean than we know about outer space?

What a regular layperson doesn’t know about what is going on inside our own bodies is the same as not knowing the deepest ocean AND the furthest outer space. It is busy, precise, amazing, and DESIGNED.

I do not know how anyone can look at how the cells work inside our bodies and think this all happened from the Big Bang and primordial soup.

The video below is called The Inner Life of the Cell. It was revealed in 2006 at the SIGGRAPH computer animation conference in Boston. From the animation’s creators, XVIVO, we read,

“The “Inner Life of the Cell” depicts what goes on inside one white blood cell, and how the blood cell senses and responds to its surroundings and external stimuli. This massive undertaking, which pushed the cutting edge of scientific animation forward by leaps and bounds, took over a year to complete. In one section of the animation, we see what has certainly become recognized as the main character, a motor protein that appears to be strolling along while carrying a vesicle. While the “walking” action of the motor protein may initially seem contrived, this scene is actually a very accurate rendering of the underlying science of the motor protein kinesin as it was understood at the time.”

Other versions have since been issued, one is a shortened version with music, another is a narrated version. The video astounded the viewers, exploded interest in scientific animations, and is considered a premier educational tool.

But more than all that, let us praise the Creator of the cell. God made all the worlds in 6 days. He made humans in one day. He made the stars also, and named them. Our Creator is majestic and beyond intelligent. We can barely fathom a Deity who can pass His word through His lips and so it is done. His precision, creativity, infinite intelligence is unfathomable. And it is this God who cares for us. He cares for our troubles, notices each tear, numbers the hairs on our heads- and redeemed our souls.

Praise Him today for His creation!

  1. Oh how God has used this in my life this morning. First watching your video and then reading Psalm 113 and my Bible study for today” In Behold your God, the weight of majesty by John Snyder, speaking of the humility of God. First, focusing on the unmeasurable intelligence of this glorious being, and then my Bible Study focused on the humility of God to reach down to sinful man and to make a way for us to have the righteousness of his Son. Mind blowing Bible study this morning and I am left undone. Thank you, Elizabeth more than you know.
