The Mortal Wound and the Living Lie: How AI is Destabilizing Society

By Elizabeth Prata

SYNOPSIS
Technological progress invites both benefit and danger. As AI blurs reality through deepfakes and misinformation, society’s grip on truth weakens, preparing hearts for Revelation’s prophetic deception. Christians must cling to Scripture, the unchanging anchor, amid confusion, remembering only Christ conquers death and saves.

Technological advances are inevitable. And people complaining about these advances are just as inevitable. Famously, Socrates complained about the intrusion of writing into education, claiming that having things written down would weaken the student’s memory. We know Socrates’ feelings about it because His protege Plato wrote about Socrates’ criticism of writing in his work Phaedrus.

But it always pays to careful, thoughtful, and mindful when a new technology enters the culture or society. New tech can be helpful but don’t let its helpfulness fool you into thinking it’s neutral. Satan soon turns anything good into evil.

We are inundated at present with Artificial Intelligence, and the videos and voice cloning are particularly dangerous. Reputations and lives could be ruined by nefarious actors creating an artificially generated voice or video in order to defame someone.

It happened to Pikesville, MD principal Eric Eiswert in 2024-

When an audio clip appeared to show a local school principal making derogatory comments, it went viral online, sparked death threats against the educator and sent ripples through a suburb outside the city of Baltimore. But it was soon exposed as a fake, manipulated by artificial intelligence – so why do people still believe it’s real? BBC article

Besides the personal and societal influence AI and other new tech has on a culture, there is the eschatological impact as well.

In Revelation 13 there is a beast from the sea commonly interpreted to be the Antichrist. The second beast mentioned in that same chapter is out of the earth and he is commonly interpreted to be the False Prophet. They force a global economy onto the world, and a mark on the forehead or the hand, without which mark you may not buy nor sell. The false prophet convinces everyone the Antichrist who is either dead or incapacitated or nearly dead (it’s unclear) is living and doing signs.

The verse in Revelation 13:14 says in the NASB and LSB, “the beast who had the wound of the sword and has come to life.”

In Revelation 13:3, it’s reported that the Antichrist had a mortal wound and had come back to life. This seems to indicate a counterfeit resurrection. Remember, the verse in Matthew 24:24, For false christs and false prophets will arise and will provide great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect.

This counterfeit resurrection or false sign will deceive the world into worshiping the Beast. They believe he has the power over death.

Only Christ has power over death.

Is it any wonder that in the future, when technology has advanced so much, that people will believe the Beast had died and come back to life? Even the Pikesville principal’s friends believed that he had said racist and ethnic slurs, and that was just a voice and when AI wasn’t as advanced as it is now. It advanced so much in just 2 years from then to now.

I was watching Hany Farid on Youtube at a TED Talk. Farid is Digital forensics expert at UC Berkeley School of Information. In April 2025 he gave this TED Talk about How to Spot Fake AI Photos.

Yes, technology harms when it’s used for evil purposes. But beyond the individual harm, a society suffers because of generative AI. How? Farid:

We now have the ability to create images that are almost indistinguishable from reality. Two, social media dominates the world and is largely unregulated and actively promotes and amplifies lies and conspiracies over the truth. And collectively, this means that it is becoming harder and harder to believe anything that we read, see or hear online. I contend that we are in a global war for truth.” Farid

The global viewing public in a time not far from this will have become so used to lies and misinformation that critical thinking in adults will have gone by the wayside. See what Farid mentions next:

If we have a society where we can’t agree on the basic facts of what is happening in the world, we have a destabilization in effect (Hany Farid, on another video).

So THAT is how this new tech of AI and so other tech can not only destabilize a society but it can feed into the prophecy of the Antichrist coming back to life and people will believe it.

What a precious book the Bible is!! CLING to it. We have the truth. There IS a global struggle for truth and it’s not this news article or that voice cloning. It’s the truth of Jesus, the truth of human sin, and the truth of how desperately we need Jesus and His salvation. The devil corrupts this truth, pollutes it, and rejects it.

We are in a battle to present this truth to the world, but Christians know and love the truth and no matter how confusing the world gets. We have heaven where there is no sin, no lie, no slander, no fakery.

Dear sisters, read your Bible more than ever. As the gap widens between truth and lies, moral and immoral, we will always have the clear and beautiful word of God, which never changes and always sustains us. It transforms our mind, gives us perspective, peace, and the power of the Gospel to share.
