Everyone knows God exists, we suppress it though

I came to the Lord sometime between December 10, 2003 and January 1, 2004. There were many reasons for my accepting the Truth, (besides the fact that it is the LORD who opens eyes and hearts) but one of them was a long-time curiosity with how the world got started and a dissatisfaction with the secular answer of evolution, Big Bang, and simple chance. During this time of my peak curiosity, I was fortunate to be able to travel the world for ten years. I saw many sunsets, the majestic Alps, active volcanoes, the Northern Lights, myriad exotic animals, the ocean at peace and in turmoil, and I would think, ‘there HAS to be more to it than a Bang…this is all so beautiful and delicately complex.’ In this, the scripture in Romans 1:20 comes into play, “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:” Eventually, I clearly saw, and I understood. More important, I believed.

I had another question too, for example, why does every culture in the world worship something? I’d learned in my twenties that every culture that ever existed worshiped something greater than themselves in some way, from the beginning of recorded time to this moment. Why is that, I’d wonder, and why is is that of all the animals on earth, that none other ever attained that transcendence of self, and looked up to a God?

Could it be…because God designed it that way?

Now, “spirituality” is not Jesus, the blood, and the cross, but it is progress.

The fact of the matter is, whether a person believes in God or not, all of Ecclesiastes reminds us that life without God is empty and vain. Every person ever created has the opportunity to see the world and His invisible attributes within. Every person has the opportunity to seek the fulfillment of that empty place inside us where we groan and discover what it is we groan for. The Lord made us with sinews and blood and DNA and a place in our brains (it seems) where the seat of heavenly longing waits for the Holy Spirit to connect with it and AWAKE our soul unto Jesus. The key is whether a person suppresses the truth in unrighteousness and continue kicking against the goads. There IS a solution for that burden of sin and guilt we all carry.

Will you harden your heart to the questions that arise in you? Will you push out of your mind the unanswerable that is before your eyes? Or will you accept the Holy Spirit’s conviction and seek until blessed belief in repentance to Jesus overwhelms you with love and grace?

“Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” (Hebrews 11:1). We should ponder the miracle that we are spiritual beings. If we evolved, why is the spirituality all humans possess absent from 100% of the rest of the animal kingdom? Could it be because “God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them“? (Genesis 1:27)

I urge all of us to think these things. If you are speaking with an unbeliever just know that they already believe in God because they can see His invisible attributes through His creation, they suppress it though.

His creation has His signature on it. His formation of humans has in us implanted longing for His Magnificent self. If you have ever looked at the beauty of the world and wondered Who made it, or felt within yourself a longing and unfulfillment, a seeking for something more, it is the Spirit knocking on the door of your heart ready to reveal the kingdom to you. If you only believe, and ask. “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” (Matthew 7:7)

  1. Elizabeth, it’s always great to see a Christian make false claims. You try to claim that “everyone knows” that your god exists, but that’s not true at all. It’s just you trying to convince yourself that you are right, and you must invent external validation that doesn’t exist to prop up your religion.

Not even all Christians agree on the same god, since you all invent the morals you insist it wants, and gee you all contradict each other. Add that fact to the fact that not one Christian can do what Jesus Christ promised and it seems that you are all frauds.

    1. Hello Club,

Thanks for the comment. I am not making false claims. Every person on earth knows God exists because they:
–have a moral compass knowing right from wrong.in that they show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience testifying and their thoughts alternately accusing or else defending them, Romans 2:15

–have a conscience- John 8:9, And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
–see that the earth they are walking on exists. Romans 1, the word of God, specifically addresses this as mentioned in the essay above

We Christians know we are sinners and we often fail, usually daily, hour by hour. However nothing the Lord promised will fail. That He uses us sinful humans to accomplish His ends is amazing! When He says He will sustain us to do His will until the end, He does. Paul is a good example of a Christian that does what Jesus promised and who was not a fraud. He went from being a zeal breathing murderer of Christians to the greatest evangelist, missionary, teacher, and church planter the New Testament ever wrote about.

One way you can tell we are committed to the cause of Christ is that so many of us are willing to die to bring the Gospel to people who are not saved from God’s wrath. Since we are all sinners, we are separated from God because he is holy, and we will go to hell to be punished for our sins when we die.

What did Jesus promise that not one Christian can do? I’m not sure I understand that part of your comment

      Romans 1:18,19- For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

Jesus came to earth, lived the perfect life God demands, and died on the cross, taking on the punishment for sin that we justly deserve. Pleased with His Son, God resurrected Jesus and ascended Him to heaven. Now, all you need to do is acknowledge your sin, repent (turn from it) and ask Jesus to forgive you. He transfers His righteousness that is so pleasing to God, to you, and you can go to heaven to be with Him when you die instead of hell. Will you repent of your sins that anger our holy God so much?? Please.

      1. Hi Vel,

I deleted your reply. When the comment is longer than the actual post I usually delete. You gave your point I made my answer, I shared the Gospel. Now we can go our separate ways. 🙂 Have a pleasant day and please consider what I’ve shared. Your eternity depends on it
