Archaeology is pretty fun. I went on a dig once, to Italy. Being able to dig up things that have been hidden for eons is a thrill. Puzzling together the pieces of how people lived, what they used in their daily lives, is fascinating. Here’s something they’ve discovered recently:
Going underground: The massive European network of Stone Age tunnels that weaves from Scotland to Turkey
–Evidence of tunnels has been found under hundreds of Neolithic settlements
–That so many tunnels have survived after 12,000 years shows that the original network must have been enormous
–They do not all link up but taken together it is a massive underground network.’
“Stone Age man created a massive network of underground tunnels criss-crossing Europe from Scotland to Turkey, a new book on the ancient superhighways has claimed. German archaeologist Dr Heinrich Kusch said evidence of the tunnels has been found under hundreds of Neolithic settlements all over the continent. In his book – Secrets Of The Underground Door To An Ancient World – he claims the fact that so many have survived after 12,000 years shows that the original tunnel network must have been enormous.”
Wikipedia explains: “The Stone Age is the first of the three-age system of archaeology, which divides human technological prehistory into three periods: The Stone Age, The Bronze Age, The Iron Age. The transition out of the Stone Age occurred between 6000 BC and 2500 BC for much of humanity living in North Africa and Eurasia.”
I posted recently on the incredible Stone Age find in southern Turkey called Gobekli Tepe, where archaeologists even wonder if it was the location of the Garden of Eden. Gobekli Tepe “is almost 12,000 years old, and pre-dates any civilizations found on earth by several thousand years. When found, it appeared to be deliberately buried in sand, for reasons unknown.” The carvings and pillars are intricate, and modern historians and archaeologists have no idea how they were produced. No tools were found at the site, and the pillars are as large as Stonehenge.
Equally ancient and intricate are the pyramids in Egypt. At 4500 years old the great Pyramid at Giza was thought to be constructed “as a tomb for fourth dynasty Egyptian Pharaoh Khufu (Cheops in Greek) over an approximately 20 year period concluding around 2560 BC.” To this day the scientists don’t know how they were put together.
The tunnels, the ziggurats, the pyramids, the pillars of Gobekli Tepe and Stonehenge, all are magnificent structures, their method of construction eluding modern scientists’ knowledge. When a scientist or even an interested layman holds a secular view of an ancient earth, and believes in evolution from monkey to neandertal to homo erectus to homo habilis…they get perplexed wondering how an ancient human could create such sophisticated temples 4000 years ago in the Stone Age. That is because their perspective is off. Wrong, Incorrect. Humankind was created sentient, fully capable, and intelligent. And moreover, we were created 6000 years ago or so, not evolved over millions.
It’s even more amusing when secular folks admire the accomplishments of civilizations that built these beautiful and sophisticated structures…comment on the complicated intricacies of a particular language or monetary system, or admire the advances agricultural terracing or irrigation techniques…yet when referring to he bible, say it was written by “Stone Age Camel Herders”. Like suddenly in a nanosecond the same people that participated in building the pyramids or Gobekli Tepe became unintelligent just because they’re mentioned in the bible.
The world as it existed 6000 years ago was amazing and that is because it was populated by intelligent sophisticated humans who were as they were since the day they were created by God: smart and knowledgeable. The Stone Age tunnels they’ve discovered are just another piece of evidence that civilization has been sophisticated from the beginning. ‘Stone Age camel herders’, indeed!
