US concerned about Israeli strike on Damascus; Turkish jet shot down by Syria?

It’s getting serious…Isaiah 17, Isaiah 19, Psalm 83…

—–update #1———
Some updates as details emerge. Regarding the downed Turkish jet, it is confirmed that Syria shot it down. AP: Office of Turkey’s prime minister says Syria has downed a Turkish air force jet.” Syria claims the jet was over Syrian territorial waters. Turkey says,

“REUTERS: TURKEY WILL TAKE ALL THE NECESSARY MEASURES “DECISIVELY” ONCE ALL THE DETAILS OF THE INCIDENT EMERGE-PM OFFICE STATEMENT”

Remember, Turkey has the largest Army in Europe, and the 2nd largest Navy. Turkey has the 2nd largest military in NATO, behind the US.

—–update #2———
From Zerohedge, a nice analysis about what this all means and what could happen next. For example, one part:

“The only question remains whether Syria’s act was offensive or defensive. Naturally, its version is one of self-defense. Turkey obviously will claim it was in its right to be wherever the plane may be, and will say this was an act of provocation. Then NATO, read Hillary Clinton, will promptly step in, and make this a case in which Turkey was in its right and that Syria committed an act of aggression. From there, things will just escalate…”

US concerned about Israeli strike on Damascus
“U.S. intelligence agencies are closely watching Israel’s military for signs it will conduct strikes on Syria’s stockpiles of chemical weapons, amid concerns the deadly nerve agents could fall under the control of Hezbollah or al Qaeda terrorists, U.S. officials said. Syria’s arsenal remains vulnerable as the result of the internal conflict currently underway in Syria between government forces and opposition rebels, one official said.”

Syria correspondent @AlexanderPageSY reports on Twitter: “CONFIRMED #Qudseya just 6km from presidential palace in #Damascus will face a full force military bombardment in the next 2 days #Syria”

Turkish jet shot down by Syria?
“Military aircraft crashes over Syrian waters after being intercepted by Assad’s defense forces, media reports claim; Erdogan convenes emergency meeting with ministers…Turkey said on Friday it had lost contact with one of its military aircraft while it was over the sea off the southeastern coast, and a television station said it had crashed in Syrian territorial waters. Hezbollah’s al-Manar television and Pro-Iranian Al-Mayadeen television station, which are both based in Lebanon, reported that the plane was shot down by Syrian defense forces. “Syrian security sources confirmed to a Manar correspondent in Damascus that Syrian defence forces shot down the Turkish fighter jet,” the Hezbollah-owned channel said.”

Saudi Arabia plans to fund Syria rebel army
“Saudi officials are preparing to pay the salaries of the Free Syria Army as a means of encouraging mass defections from the military and increasing pressure on the Assad regime, the Guardian has learned. The move, which has been discussed between Riyadh and senior officials in the US and Arab world, is believed to be gaining momentum as a recent flush of weapons sent to rebel forces by Saudi Arabia and Qatar starts to make an impact on battlefields in Syria.’

Keep praying and keep looking up.

"Turkey is No Longer a Friend of Israel" Says President of Turkey

Well. My previous post on Israel and Turkey became outdated almost immediately, like, in three minutes. I had mentioned that Turkish-Israeli relationship was deteriorating fast. A series of moves an comments over the last four days by Turkey indicated that their relationship was headed south. We know that the bible says in the end the two will be enemies. Turkey joins with other countries to attack Israel in the Gog-Magog battle. Ezekiel 38-39)

Now, Euronews reports the President of Turkey saying that his nation and Israel “are no longer friends.” This Euronews interview began with the contextual comment that “Turkey is transforming and developing economic and diplomatic relations with its neighbors, prompting many to talk of an axis shift. The Turkish President sat down for a candid interview with Euronews as to where the country might be heading next.”

The President emphasizes that he is leading his nation toward opening up relations with many, instead of being a dead end, Turkey is now more of a crossroads. Except, that is, Israel, I note. Turkey withdrew diplomats from Israel and has adopted a harsh stance in the last few days, In this interview, the President flatly admits that any friendship between Turkey and Israel is over. So the crossroads does not extend to Jerusalem, apparently.

When the interviewer asks the Turkish President about the Gaza Flotilla incident with Israel last year, he admitted that the incident irrevocably harmed their relationship. This admission comes at about 4:16. The interviewer follows up with the question, “Is Turkey’s friendship with Israel over?” and the President says, “Absolutely. Israel has lost the friendship of Turkey and of Turkish citizens.”

Here is the video if you want to watch yourself. It is interesting. The interviewer goes on with asking Turkey about Iran’s nuclear activity.

Turkey has the second largest military in NATO, after the US. Israel is not part of NATO. Things are lining up, folks.

Turkey-Israel relationship deteriorating

Anyone who reads the bible knows the end from the beginning. In many cases we don’t know how the LORD will perform a certain thing that is prophesied to come to pass, but we know it will, because He said it will. In other cases, we do know how, we know who, and we even have a general time frame when.

For example, we know that Israel and Turkey will wind up enemies. In Ezekiel 38-39 it is prophesied that Turkey will be an aggressor against Israel, along with Russia, Armenia, Iran, Libya, Sudan and others. (Ez 38:3-6). They attack Israel. It is a surprise attack, at a moment when Israel thinks she can let down her guard. (Ez 38:11). Therefore it is especially devastating, and Israel almost loses the battle. But the LORD intervenes personally and Israel is saved. The world knows it is the LORD’s power that defeated Israel’s enemies, and not anything else. (Ez 38:22-23; Ez 39:6)

So over the last decade as Turkey had moved to a more democratic and less Muslim form of government and civic outlook, and seemed to be gravitating to the West in their persistent requests to become part of the EU, people who study prophecy knew that it would not last. We just did not know when the relationship would dissipate into a downward spiral of mistrust and hatred. It seems that that time is now.

Just before the Labor Day weekend, Turkey recalled its Ambassador from Turkey and began to engage in a diplomatic cold war. Arutz Sheva reports:

Turkey Declares Diplomatic Cold War on Israel
“Turkey has unofficially declared a diplomatic cold war, recalling its ambassador and threatening to charge Israel in the International Court. Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmet Davutoglu announced on Friday that Ankara was not only recalling its ambassador but also “will reduce its level of diplomatic representation in Israel to that of second secretary, a lower rank than consul. … Turkey is suspending all military agreements with Israel…”

The split has begun. Even more dramatic, was two days later when Turkey shockingly harassed incoming Israelis at the airport. Yedioth News reports,

Israelis held in Istanbul airport
About 40 Israeli passengers on board a Turkish Airlines flight from Tel Aviv to Istanbul were held for several hours by local police on Monday after their passports had been taken away from them. The passengers said that the Turkish police officers were disrespectful, claiming that such an incident was unprecedented. “I think that the police officers didn’t even know what they were looking for,” one of the passengers told Ynet. “They apparently got an order to detain us, one by one. Everyone was in shock; we didn’t know what they were going to do to us. Obviously this was done intentionally in order to create an unpleasant feeling.”

In addition to personally harassing Israelis, the Turkish government decided to harass Israel militarily, also.

Turkey navy to escort aid ships to Palestinians in Gaza
Turkish officials tell Hurriyet Daily News that Turkish navy will strengthen presence in eastern Mediterranean Sea to stop Israeli ‘bullying’.

In an even more provoking mood, Turkey is planning to visit Egypt, but to also visit the Gaza Strip. This is one step too far, as Israel is concerned.

‘Erdogan visit to Gaza would hurt Turkey-US ties’
“A senior Israeli official on Sunday warned that it would be a diplomatic mistake for Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to visit the Gaza Strip as reports in the Turkish and Arab media suggested he was considering doing. The Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported on Sunday that Erdogan will pay a two-day visit to Egypt beginning September 12 and may subsequently cross the border into the Gaza Strip. … Turkish Deputy Premier Bulent Arinc stated that the visit was expected to produce important decisions reflecting the strength of relations between Turkey and Egypt.”

And today, the Washington Post wonders, “Turkey and Israel: Can they repair the relationship?

They sum up, “With Erdogan in charge, a return to the good old days is highly unlikely. But Turkey, for now at least, needs to perform a balancing act — remaining on good terms with the United States, feeding its domestic audience a steady diet of anti-Zionist rhetoric and not entirely jettisoning the relationship with the Jewish state. With Syria’s Bashar al-Assad under siege and the rest of the Middle East convulsed in turmoil, Turkey may find it unwise to sulk for too long. Who knows which of Ankara’s allies will survive? Perhaps cooler heads and a desire to keep at least one foot firmly planted in the West will temper the Turks’ response.”

Hope springs eternal, doesn’t it? I hope that the people in these nations will find peace, I pray that they do. But any lull or temporary softening of the harsh stances will be short lived, because we know the end from the beginning.

Egypt suffers dreadful losses during the Tribulation, and a final defeat as a nation by Israel. (Isaiah 19:16-17). However, the LORD blesses Egypt at the beginning of the Millennium, along with Israel and Assyria. Egypt turns to the LORD en masse. They still must endure a 40 year desolation, (Ezekiel 29:8-16) they are welcomed back to the LORD after that.

Turkey does not fare as well. At the Gog-Magog battle, “I will execute judgment on him with plague and bloodshed. I will pour out torrential rain, hailstones, fire, and brimstone on him, as well as his troops and the many peoples who are with him.”

The above articles all happened within the last few days. The relationship between Turkey and Israel is devolving fast. Hopefully the rapture is right behind.

The historical Laodicean church has been found

From Turkey’s Hurriyet Daily News:

Ancient church discovered in western Turkey
An ancient church mentioned in the Bible has been discovered in western Turkey, according to the head of the excavation. Culture and Tourism Minister Ertuğrul Günay visited the ancient city of Laodicea on Sunday in Denizli province and was briefed by Professor Celal Şimşek, head of the excavation team. The professor said they have discovered the Laodicea Church, one of the seven mentioned in the Bible. Şimşek said the church from the fourth century A.D. was found by underground radar search, a system they have tried this year for the first time. “The major part of the church, which is built on an area of 2,000 square meters, has kept its original [status].” … According to the minister, the baptismal pool at the Laodicea Church is even more exciting than the one at Hagia Sophia in Istanbul.”

If you know the story of the first chapters of Revelation, they are letters sent to actual churches in the world, and they also double for church epochs describing types of churches as the Christian Church Age progressed.

John MacArthur wrote: The study of the seven letters has been important because they reveal what Christ thinks about the church–what He thinks about it today, what He thinks about it in the day that the letters were written, and what He thinks about different types of Christians in any age. Revelation 2–3 could well be titled, “What Christ Thinks About the Church.” As we study the last letter to the church located in Laodicea, let me remind you of the significance of these letters. First, each one of the churches was an actual church existing in an actual city around +A.D. 95. Second, the seven churches represent different types of churches. For example, one was dead; some churches are dead. One was a suffering church; some believers suffer for Christ. Third, they typify different types of churches throughout history. Of the seven churches, Laodicea was the worst. Christ doesn’t have one good thing to say about it. If there were any true believers there, Christ doesn’t say anything about them.” Read more in-depth about the Laodicean church here at MacArthur’s site.

Revelation 3: 14-22 says this about the Laodicean Church, which is also the last church and stands for our church age, now. It is known as the Apostate Church:

“And to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write,
‘These things says the Amen, the Faithful and True Witness, the Beginning of the creation of God: “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot,I will vomit you out of My mouth. Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked— I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me. To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”’

Pretty strong language. Jesus is not vomiting Christians out, because once we’re His we are always His. The lukewarm folks are the ones who have not transformed from cold to Christ and Godly things, to fervently hot for Christ and Godly things. They are sort of around Jesus, occasionally attending church and going through the motions, knowing of Jesus, but not believing IN Jesus. [Art: Holman Hunt’s painting The Light of the World inspired by Rev 3:20’s metaphor of Christ knocking at the door of the Laodicean Church.”]

Can you imagine an entire church where Jesus is knocking on a closed door? I don’t have to imagine, I have attended churches where it was that dead. It is getting harder and harder to find churches where the preaching is hot for Jesus, where the congregation is fervent to follow Him. I’ve found it most difficult to reach a lukewarm person who superficially professes Christ than to reach a person cold for Him. It is really hard to talk with a lukewarm “Christian”, if they will talk about Him at all.

So the actual location and building of the Laodicean Church was discovered this week. Coincidence? There are no coincidences in God’s timing. Look up, for your redemption draweth nigh, and I hope you are fervent for Him!

Wikileaks dump imminent: US-Israel relationship may be forever changed

Julian Assange is a whistleblower activist who started a website called WikiLeaks. Somehow he obtains confidential, sensitive documents and he publishes them online. Sometimes this is good, in the case of exposing torture, assassination, and corruption. He has been awarded for this. Assange says that Wikileaks has released more classified documents than the rest of the world press combined: “That’s not something I say as a way of saying how successful we are – rather, that shows you the parlous state of the rest of the media. How is it that a team of five people has managed to release to the public more suppressed information, at that level, than the rest of the world press combined? It’s disgraceful.” (source)

Before working with the website, he was a physics and mathematics student, hacker, and computer programmer. Then Assange founded WikiLeaks in 2006. He has come to widespread public attention for his recent role in the release of classified material documenting the involvement of the United States in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Then the world got word that he is about to release 2.7 million documents detailing conversations conducted confidentially regarding the US and Israel, probably this weekend.

Time Mag: WikiLeaks: could become as important a journalistic tool as the Freedom of Information Act”

AFP French News Agency: US warns Israel of WikiLeaks release
Washington has warned its ally Israel of potential embarrassment from the expected release of US diplomatic cables on whistle-blowing website WikiLeaks, an Israeli newspaper said on Thursday. A senior Israeli official, quoted in Haaretz, said it has been informed that WikiLeaks plans to release hundreds of thousands of diplomatic cables, some of which could include confidential reports from the US embassy in Tel Aviv. “The Americans said they view the leak very seriously,” he told the paper, on condition of anonymity.

Haaretz: Israel, U.S. tense as WikiLeaks set to release classified bilateral communiques
“Sources in Washington said the documents would be coming out soon, perhaps even today. And it is not only Israel being warned about US documents. The US Ambassador in London made a special visit also…”

UK Daily Mail: U.S. warns Britain over new WikiLeaks revelations that will ‘expose corruption between allies’
“David Cameron was warned last night by America that damaging secrets of the ‘special relationship’ are about to be laid bare. The U.S. ambassador to London made an unprecedented personal visit to Downing Street to warn that whistleblower website WikiLeaks is about to publish secret assessments of what Washington really thinks of Britain. The website is on the verge of revealing almost 3million documents, including thousands of sensitive diplomatic cables sent to Washington from the American embassy in London. In total, around 2.7 million confidential messages between the U.S. government and its embassies around the world are to be released. The U.S. State Department warned that the leaks would damage relationships around the world. Spokesman P J Crowley said: ‘These revelations are harmful to the U.S. and our interests. They are going to create tension in relationships between our diplomats and our friends around the world.’”

The UK Daily Mail says, “U.S. diplomats face being kicked out of countries in backlash … Corrupt politicians expected to be named and shamed.”

As the dump became imminent, it simply became obvious the US was running around in damage control mode. “Wikileaks document dump has United States working damage control to stem potential embarrassment“.
“The U.S. is already in damage-control mode ahead of the latest classified documents expected to be released by whistle-blowing website Wikileaks.  Secretary of State Hillary Clinton spoke with the leaders of several countries, warning her counterparts of what the documents may contain, State Department spokesman P.J. Crowley said.  There is speculation that the documents will reveal sensitive and embarrassing details of American diplomacy with foreign countries, The Associated Press reports.”

Besides Britain and India, the US has warned the governments of Canada, Australia, Denmark, Norway, Israel, Iraq, China, Turkey, Russia and Iceland in advance of the release. On this already tense earth, the situation between US and UK, and US and Israel will be stirred immeasurably by whatever the world reads in those documents. Though bombs may be going off in the Koreas, there is another bomb ticking and about to explode when WikiLeaks documents hit the internet. Like this one: “Did Turkey help al-Qaeda in Iraq?
“According to the London-based daily al-Hayat, the WikiLeaks release includes documents showing Turkey has helped al-Qaeda in Iraq, reports Reuters.”

That would make Turkey unquestioningly an enemy. The Gog-Magog battle of Ezekiel 38-39 shows Turkey siding with Iran and Russian in attacking Israel. Unmasking Turkey’s real stance may spur that battle along.

The UK is taking the importance of the leaks so seriously that all the news media outlets in the UK have just now received a DA-notice. A DA-Notice or Defence Advisory Notice (called a Defence Notice or D-Notice until 1993) is an official request to news editors not to publish or broadcast items on specified subjects for reasons of national security. The system is still in use in Britain. As of 2008 there are five standing DA-Notices. On 25 November 2010, the Government issued a DA-Notice (types 1 and 5) in relation to sensitive documents expected to be imminently released on the website WikiLeaks.

DA-Notice 01: Military Operations, Plans Capabilities
DA-Notice 02: Nuclear and Non-Nuclear Weapons and Equipment
DA-Notice 03: Ciphers and Secure Communications
DA-Notice 04: Sensitive Installations and Home Addresses
DA-Notice 05: United Kingdom Security Intelligence Special Services

State Department Spokesman PJ Crowley said, “These revelations are harmful to the United States and our interests,” Crowley said. “They are going to create tension in relationships between our diplomats and our friends around the world.” MORE tension than there already is? Hard to imagine.

And we wait, holding our breath to see which flames get fanned. And where they get fanned to.
