"This boy was dead for 20 minutes, at least"

Prayer works. The Lord is mysterious, His wonders to perform–

This is from MSNBC’s photo blog, and I encourage you to click over there to view the spectacular photos.

Last Friday afternoon a large church youth group from Spanaway was visiting the beach off the Cranberry Beach approach in Long Beach, WA. Shannon Kissel and his daughter Nicole were boogie-boarding nearby when they saw two boys were in need of help. While they were able to retrieve one boy, they were not able to rescue Dale Ostrander, who was caught in a rip tide. It was about 10 minutes until the surf rescue team was on scene.

Twenty-plus kids from the youth group sobbed uncontrollably and prayed on the sand during the search, a truly heart-wrenching sound. It was then at least another 15 minutes or so before rescue swimmer Eduardo Mendez spotted Ostrander, and he and swimmer Will Green were able to grab him and pull him aboard a jet ski.

Seconds later at the shore, Doug Knutzen carried him up to where paramedics were waiting to treat him. They were on the beach for another 10 minutes trying to revive him. I think it’s safe to say that everyone was certain Ostrander was dead. But the crew continued to work on him, and apparently once they got to the hospital they were able to get a weak pulse and get him breathing again.

Ostrander was air-lifted to Portland for treatment. After he was put in an induced coma for a couple days, he woke up.

And today (Aug. 9) they removed his breathing tube. Not only did Ostrander breath on his own, but he spoke complete sentences. Amazing. This boy was dead for upward of 20 minutes, easily. From the blog prayersfordale.blogspot.com: At 4:11 pm today “The doctors just removed Dale’s breathing tube and he is now breathing on his own. Also, because of possible damage to the brain, they were unsure if he would be able to speak. Minutes after the tube was removed, the doctors told him to cough. Not only did Dale talk back to the doctors, he responded in a full sentence saying, “I don’t have to.”

Dale continues to get better by the minute, and the doctors are more and more amazed!”

Going to these kinds of breaking news situations is often tough, as you never know how they’re going to turn out. I was heartbroken for almost a day after this. And to be able to share this kind of news now is just so heart-warming. Please visit the site listed above and follow as Dale recovers miraculously. Because if ever there was a miracle, this would be it. -DKM

Vacation…

I’ve got two weeks left until I go back to work. The last week of July will be busy. So that essentially leaves a week. This weekend I’m going to a Beth Moore convention! Between now and then, I’d like to do a lot of reading. I’ve got stacked up on my table, John Piper’s “Think”, “The Complete Guide to Asperger’s Syndrome”, “The Centurion’s Wife, and a book about Captain Sir John Franklin’s lost expedition of HMS Erebus and HMS Terror to the Arctic in 1845 – 1848, called “The Terror.” That one is 700 pages.

I also want to revisit the BBC documentary “Atom,” narrated by physicist Jim Al-Khalili. I just got done watching part one again, “Clash of the Titans” and I am loving quantum physics more and more as I learn it.

That’s what I want to concentrate on. I won’t be staying by the computer as much so maybe I will not be posting as much. I don’t know, but I am going to attempt to kick back for a week and do some other things, including the ladies retreat at Beth Moore convention with some real people! That will be a change from my regular life here at The Hermitage.

Trigger happy cops shoot alligator lawn ornament

This made me laugh out loud. I’d posted a few days ago about police on a hair trigger. I’d used the sad examples of the dancers at the Jefferson Memorial being arrested, and of the Pima County police that stormed a vet’s home looking for drugs and shooting him 22 times in front of his family, and security guards at a soccer game using their nightstick on a subdued prankster. We’ve all read lately of the taser incidents. But this one takes the cake.

In landlocked Kansas city…it all started when some kids came home from playing in the neighborhood and told their dad that they saw an alligator…who called 911…who called the conservation officer…who called police…who dispatched three officers.

Independence Police Shoot Alligator Lawn Ornament
“Police responding to an alligator sighting in a suburban Kansas City pond took quick action to dispatch the big reptile. It wasn’t until after the second rifle shot bounced off the beast Sunday that the three Independence officers realized it was a concrete lawn ornament.Independence police spokesman Tom Gentry said the department received a call from a man who said a gator had been spotted in the woods. Gentry said the alligator was in the weeds near a tree by a pond and it looked real. An officer shot the gator twice in the head — per instructions from a conservation officer — before realizing it wasn’t moving.Gentry said the landowner told officers he put the fake gator there to keep children off his property.”

Police told the landowner that a ‘no trespassing’ sign would have been wiser. I’m not so sure.

Springfield Mass. tornado, surreal (UPDATED- tornado sucks up river)

I watched an intense storm pop up in central Massachusetts this afternoon. All of the eastern seaboard is under a tornado watch, from DC to Maine. Half an hour ago, a tornado touched down in Springfield Mass and ripped through the city at rush hour. Tornadoes in New England are rare. They do happen, but they are rare. Municipalities don’t have tornado warnings and the people don’t expect them. If one hits, people must rely on eyesight to visually spot it or be tuned in to emergency weather messages. They may not be tuned in, and even if they are, they don’t know what to do. I didn’t.

When I moved here to Georgia I had to learn what to do when a tornado warning is issued. You go to the cellar or to the lowest floor of your building. You put as many walls between you and the outside as possible, going into a closet or the bathroom if need be. I didn’t know any of that nor was familiar with the power of these storms as I am now.

The tornado that hit Springfield apparently did much damage. Trees and power lines down, buildings damaged. Another one is headed for Worcester MA, and one just hit Sturbridge. I’m listening to live scanners, and also looking at video and photos. Amazing. This is surreal. I don’t know what is in store for Boston or NY later today but the weather channel guys are making comparisons to weather conditions similar to Tuscaloosa and Birmingham Alabama in terms of signature and situation.

The guy stayed looking at it until the hail conked his head, then he made a beeline for the car.

Jesus said that as we approach the end of days that the birth pangs will become more frequent and painful. We are not under judgment yet but we can definitely see that the times are getting crazier. I’m more amazed every day at seeing the results of what the bible tells us to expect.

Don’t forget, today, June 1, opens the 2011 hurricane season.

Incredible shrinking Israel

The extent Israel will go for “peace”, source The Israel News

Click on picture for enlargement, or look at original here.

According to the biblical borders set by God, this map approximates what Greater Israel should look like, and will one day after the Tribulation:

What a day that will be, when the nation loved by God is finally entering into its Kingdom reign with Him, with secure borders!

7 minutes vs. 16 hours: how the media reports delay

A political observation:

7 Minutes Vs. 16 Hours: How The Media Reports Delay

“George Bush was relentlessly mocked for waiting seven minutes (actually waiting for his security detail to ready the exit and for his vehicle to be readied) before leaving the school he was visiting. He calmly finished reading My Pet Goat for the kids before going to his now-ready helicopter.”

“On the other hand, after Obama was told (most likely for the fifteenth time) that the CIA was really, really, really quite confident that Osama bin Ladin was at that compound in Abbottabad, he decided he needed to sleep on it.”

“Sixteen hours later (hours during which Osama might have fled– bear in mind, his courier’s name had just been outed by WikiLeaks), he made up his mind. How does the media report this? Well, relying upon those in Obama’s inner circle (that is to say, his political flunkies and spinners), we’re told this:”

“But the next morning after 16 hours, Obama summoned four top aides to the White House Diplomatic Room. Before they could speak, the president put his fist on the table and declared ‘It’s a go’.” Why does it matter that he did this “before they could speak”? They had spoken already yesterday when they strongly, strongly urged the president to give the order, and he had decided to sleep on it. They were only waiting on him, after all.”

“So, after 16 hours of vacillation, during which the operation might have been rendered a failure by intervening invents, he fist-bumps a piece of furniture and finally makes up his mind. This is something to brag about? This is, in Howard Fineman’s words, “almost Biblical”? Seems like a very cautious, feckless, indecisive individual delaying and delaying on critical decisions and then attempting to sound heroic when he finally does what he’s being paid to do.”

The most incredible solar flare I ever saw

It was just shown on SOHO/NASA. It just occurred so the only thing I know for sure is that is not earth-directed. Its size is unknown, but it looks to my layman’s eyes like it could be an X-class (largest). I’ll eagerly await Spaceweather.com’s report tomorrow. For all the people who think they will be able to stand and defy God, all’s I’ll say is really? REALLY? Just look at it. O, the Lord is mighty!
