What’s with the Molotov cocktail throwing? Tremor at LA sinkhole, and other news

Here is some news for you. There really is too much these days to cover comprehensively. The nearness of the Tribulation is truly astonishing, and getting closer each second. The events lining up in the Middle East, the deepening financial depression with no solutions in sight, the earth events such as quakes, sinkhole, storms etc, the X-flares from the sun, hatred of Israel and the Jews worldwide, the sinful behavior of people with all their violence, the false teachers and tickled ears that refuse to hear the Gospel, … I am shaking my head in amazement.

You know that the United States is rapidly becoming a Third World country, don’t you? Our debt, lack of manufacturing, loss of influence and stature in the world, shrinking military…all have combined to bring the wolves to the door. A Russian sub patrolled our shores in the Gulf of Mexico for almost a month and we didn’t notice. Or if we did, we didn’t say anything.

Now we have a UN election monitor team coming to the US to monitor OUR elections. Foreign officials coming in unprecedented numbers to monitor US elections. Texas of course, said don’t mess with us, and threatened to have anyone who even looked like a monitor prosecuted.

All I can say is, the election won’t solve our problems. And besides, even if Romney wins, it is a long time until the inauguration. Anything could happen.

In addition to foreign former superpowers nosing around our shores undetected, and global monitoring teams watching our elections, we have had a spate of Molotov cocktail throwing incidents. “The Molotov cocktail is a generic name used for a variety of improvised incendiary weapons. Due to the relative ease of production, they are frequently used by amateur protesters and non-professionally equipped fighters in urban guerrilla warfares. They are primarily intended to set targets ablaze rather than instantly destroy them.” (Wikipedia)

A Molotov cocktail was thrown in a Virginia Mall this week. “Leon Alphans Traille, Jr., 29, has been charged with committing arson for allegedly throwing a Molotov cocktail into the food court area of the Ballston Common Mall in Arlington, Virginia.” He threw it from the second floor balcony into the food court. It did not explode but it did ignite. The flames were extinguished. There is no more innocuous place in America than a mall food court. Can you imagine sitting there, munching on an Orange Julius or a Au Bon Pain croissant and suddenly the floor next to you is aflame and you’re running screaming down the hall?

This news piece is graphic. A Molotov cocktail was thrown onto a guy and it did light up, burning the man.
“Police in the United States have released shocking video of a 54-year-old man being set on fire as he was sitting outside a market in the state of California. “The victim was waiting for his father to get food, minding his own business, when the suspect came from an alley and threw an object at him, a bottle,” Sergeant Aaron Eaton of the Long Beach Police Department told local media. The graphic surveillance video, released on Sunday, shows the suspect tossing a Molotov cocktail at the victim, who was sitting on the ground outside a Long Beach, California market on Friday evening. The victim, engulfed in flames, runs into the nearby parking lot, where witnesses helped put out the fire. He is in serious condition with burns to the lower part of his body, his hands and his face, and his name is being withheld.”

This one is out of Hurst TX. “Federal agents are trying to identify who threw small explosive devices at a lawyer’s office and an oil company in Hurst. Firefighters discovered Molotov cocktails when they responded to a report of a fire in the 1200-block of Southridge Court on Sunday morning, said Andrew Young, a spokesman for the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.”

Montreal has had three Molotov attacks in 24 hours. A Molotov cocktail launched at sushi restaurant and two bars.

Throwing an incendiary device on an innocent bystander is horrible! Unconscionable!! As this writer said,

“Increase of Wickedness” – There is a pattern of lawlessness dominating our society today that throughout history was found in civilizations in the process of decline. It is a pattern evident in nations that rejected God’s Word as ultimate authority in their lives and is a pattern prevailing in many Americans today. Scripture tells us that… Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold. [Matthew 24:12]. I believe America’s rejection of Christ’s lordship is the reason behind all the bloodshed, violence, racial hatred, moral decay, drug abuse and outbreak of deadly sexual diseases in our society. Lawmakers, educators and the media have made God an unspeakable subject…

So now there’s this Frankenstorm looming. I wrote about it on Tuesday when the computer models were first showing something that would be worse that 1991’as Perfect Storm. Then I updated it early this morning. Since then, the computer models have lined up and there seems to be something of a 90% chance that this storm will be as bad as they feared. Forecasters warn East Coast about ‘Frankenstorm‘:

“It’s looking like a very serious storm that could be historic,” said Jeff Masters, meteorology director of the forecasting service Weather Underground. “Mother Nature is not saying ‘trick-or-treat.’ It’s just going to give tricks.” National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration forecaster Jim Cisco, who coined the nickname Frankenstorm, said: “We don’t have many modern precedents for what the models are suggesting. … It’s almost a weeklong, five-day, six-day event,” he said from a NOAA forecast center in College Park, Md. “It’s going to be a widespread, serious storm. … Some have compared the tempest to the so-called Perfect Storm that struck off the coast of New England in 1991, but that one didn’t hit as populated an area. Nor is this one like last year’s Halloween storm, which was merely an early snowfall. “The Perfect Storm only did $200 million of damage and I’m thinking a billion,” Masters said. “Yeah, it will be worse.”

Regarding the Louisiana sinkhole I’ve been reporting about, the people near it have been evacuated, but the sinkhole keeps growing and the return-home date is not in sight. Officials: Math doesn’t work; end to evacuation is unclear
“The math isn’t adding up in Assumption Parish, and some parish officials are worried about what might be happening underground near a Bayou Corne area sinkhole. … With this uncertainty as well as other factors — such as the natural gas still trapped underground — officials said the end date of the evacuation of the Bayou Corne and Grand Bayou communities remains unclear. “Until we figure out what is going on below the surface, it would be very negligent on our part to ask these people to come back into their homes,” Assumption Parish Sheriff Mike Waguespack said. The evacuation has been in place since the evening of Aug. 3, hours after the sinkhole was found south of La. 70 South on Texas Brine’s leased property. The evacuation affects about 150 homes.” …

But then today, Tremors were reported at the giant Louisiana sinkhole

“A sharp tremor was recorded by USGS monitors just after 9 p.m. Wednesday at the site of the giant Louisiana sinkhole in Assumption Parish.”

Gazans fire 80 rockets at Israel in last 24 hours
“Eighty rockets and mortar shells hit the western Negev on Wednesday, in the second day of one of the most severe rocket barrages on southern Israel in recent years.”

The world hates Israel.

Heading toward an irreparable rift between U.S. Jews and Protestants
“As relations between Jews and mainline Protestants in the U.S. hit a 45-year low after 15 Protestant leaders sent a letter to Congress urging that aid to Israel be reconsidered.”

UN expert: Boycott companies in Israel settlements
“UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The U.N. special investigator on human rights in the Palestinian territories called Wednesday for a boycott of all companies that have dealings with Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem…”

Sudan angry, defiant after attack that it blames on Israel
“Sudan remained defiant and angry Thursday after a fatal late-night bombing of a weapons factory in that east African country – a sophisticated attack a Sudanese official continued to blame on Israel.”

The sun is pretty active. Spaceweather.com reports magnetic froth. Sounds pretty! But it packs a punch.
“MAGNETIC FROTH: Sunspot AR1598 has quieted down since unleashing an X1-class solar flare on Oct. 23rd. It might be the calm before the storm. The sunspot is still large and apparently potent, as shown in this image captured by amateur astronomer Sergio Castillo of Inglewood, California:”…

This is a very good essay by Randy Alcorn on the upcoming election. he deals with all our objections, lol. Personally I am hoping for the rapture prior to election. Obama can HAVE the world, then.

Election 2012 Part 5: Is it Wrong to Vote for the Lesser of Evils? Shouldn’t We Instead Vote for a Third Party Candidate?

We are citizens of a better country.

Lake Peigneur, the biggest man-made vortex ever

This is a really cool and interesting story. A vortex was created by drilling near a salt mine 30 years ago in Iberia Parish, Louisiana. The results in that story of drilling near a salt mine reminds me of reminds of the ongoing story today of the current problem with a salt mine in Louisiana’s Assumption parish, only 50 miles away from the events that occurred thirty years ago in Iberia. I post the story because local residents in Assumption are jittery about the proposed drilling of a relief well to try and discover why the sinkhole is occurring in the first place. I’ve posted about the Louisiana sinkhole first here, and then updated it here.

This story is about the unexpected power of earth when messed with… For example, below where it says nine barges popped back up like corks, days later? Think about how BIG a barge is. Then think nine popping up like corks.

Lake Peigneur, the biggest man-made vortex ever
In 1980, Lake Peigneur was an unremarkable body of water located near the Gulf of Mexico and New Iberia, Louisiana. The freshwater lake covered 1,300 acres of land and was only eleven feet deep. A small piece of land, Jefferson Island, was home to a beautiful botanical park. Deep beneath the lake there was a salt mine.

Today Lake Peigneur is still an unremarkable body of water. But it is now a 1,300 foot deep saltwater lake. We tell you the story of the biggest man-made whirlpool accident ever made. Early in the morning on November 21, 1980, workers decided to abandon their oil drilling rig on the suspicion that it was beginning to collapse. They had been probing for oil under the floor of Lake Peigneur when their drill suddenly seized up at about 1,230 feet below the muddy surface, and they were unable free it. In their attempts to work the drill loose, the men heard a series of loud pops, just before the rig tilted precariously towards the water.

Lake Peigneur
Concluding that something had gone wrong, the men on the platform cut the attached barges loose, scrambled off the rig, and moved to the shore. Shortly after abandoning the $5 million drilling rig, the crew watched in amazement as the huge platform and derrick overturned, and disappeared into a lake that was supposed to be only eleven feet deep. Soon the water around that position began to turn. It was slow at first, but it steadily accelerated until it became a fast-moving whirlpool a quarter of a mile in diameter, with its center directly over the drill site.

As the whirlpool was forming on the surface, an electrician working in the salt mines below heard a loud, strange noise coming towards him. Soon he discovered the sound’s source: fuel drums banging together as they were carried along the shaft by a knee-deep stream of muddy water. He quickly called in the evacuation alarm. Many of the 50 miners working that morning, most as deep as 1,500 feet below the surface, saw the evacuation signal and began to run for the 1,300 foot level, where they could catch an elevator to the surface. Although it seemed to take forever to get out using the slow 8-person elevator, all 50 miners managed to escape with their lives as the mine below them filled with water.

Clearly, the salt dome which contained the mine had been penetrated by the drill crew on the lake. Texaco, who had ordered the oil probe, was aware of the salt mine’s presence and had planned accordingly; but somewhere a miscalculation had been made, which placed the drill site directly above one of the salt mine’s upper shafts. As the water poured in through the original 14-inch-wide hole, it quickly dissolved the salt away, making the hole grow bigger by the second. The water pouring into the mine also dissolved the huge salt pillars which supported the ceilings, and the shafts began to collapse.

Meanwhile, up on the surface, the tremendous sucking power of the whirlpool was causing violent destruction. It swallowed another nearby drilling platform whole, as well as a barge loading dock, 70 acres of soil from Jefferson Island, trucks, trees, structures, and a parking lot. The sucking force was so strong that it reversed the flow of the 12-mile-long canal which led out from the lake to the Gulf of Mexico, and dragged 11 barges from that canal into the swirling vortex, where they disappeared into the flooded mines below. It also overtook a manned tug on the canal, which struggled against the current for as long as possible before the crew had to leap off onto the canal bank and watch as the lake consumed their boat.

After only three hours, the lake was drained of its 3.5 billion gallons of water. The water from the canal, now flowing in from the Gulf of Mexico, formed a 150-foot waterfall into the crater where the lake had been, filling it with salty ocean water. As the canal refilled the crater over the next two days, nine of the sunken barges popped back to the surface like corks, though the drilling rigs and tug were left entombed in the ruined salt mine.

Lake Peigneur

The backwards flow of the normally outflowing Delcambre Canal temporarily created the biggest waterfall in Louisiana

Despite the enormous destruction caused by the vortex, no human life was lost in this disaster, nor were there any serious injuries. Within two days, what had previously been an eleven-foot-deep freshwater body was replaced with a 1,300-foot-deep saltwater lake. The lake’s biology was changed drastically, and it became home to many species of plants and fish which had not been there previously. The owners of the Crystal Diamond salt mine received a combined $45 million in damages from Texaco and the oil drilling company, and got out of the salt mining business for good.

Increase in fireball sightings swamp reporting agency

We haven’t had a foray into the strange and fringe for a good while, so I pass this along for the UFO-logists in the group.

As you know, I love quantifiable data to use as a benchmark for comparing events to history. I think it helps us stay grounded and not get carried away too far with prophetic newspaper exegesis. In this UFO report from the National UFO Reporting Center, they say that fireball sightings have increased tremendously.

We know that Revelation is an orderly UN-creating of the universe as opposed to Genesis which is the account of Creation. In Revelation we read that the mountains will fall, rivers will dry up, houses will topple, stars will plummet, the sun will go out…

Just before that uncreation, the Lord will collect His bride in the rapture and take us to heaven. Even so, we were told to look for signs that will precede this time that will be so devastating no flesh would survive if Jesus had not cut short the days. Matthew 24:29 says that at the end of the Tribulation the stars will fall. Celestial things will happen and in my opinion it is no surprise that we see a foretaste now of what will happen in the Tribulation. In the context of His talk about the end of the age, Jesus said to be on guard! Why? “I have told you these things beforehand.” (Mark 13:23).

So here is a bit of news that’s ‘out there’ in more ways than one!

NUFORC INUNDATED WITH SIGHTING REPORTS DURING JUNE AND JULY 2012

“We apologize for the long delay in updating our website and database of reports. Our last posting was July 4th. The delay is explained by the fact that we have received an unusually large volume of reports, and we are working on a full-time basis to get them all proof-read, and posted to our site.”

“Part of the explanation for the increase in sightings is the several radio programs that Peter Davenport, NUFORC Director, has made appearances on, in order to discuss the high volume of reports of “fireballs” that we have been receiving since June 2011. Whereas a typical number of reports submitted per month to NUFORC over the last 17 years has been 250-350, during June we received 974, and we have received 1,052 during July. The majority of the reports from the last two months appear to be about the “fireballs,” which we have discussed frequently over the past year. This type of sighting appears to have increased significantly, within the last month or two, and they now dominate the reports we are receiving.”

Here is another piece of news. I often report on sinkholes. They frequently happen when a long-undiscovered or a recently catastrophic failure of a water pipe saturates the ground underneath and suddenly the top-pavement gives way. This is nothing unusual. Slightly more unusual, Florida in particular has endured a spate of sinkhole events over the last three years. So much so that a legislative session was called to re-regulate the insurance industry covering these swarms of claims coming in, and when that didn’t work they simply stopped covering sinkholes in many cases.

Even more unusual are the sinkholes that happen in cities. The Guatemala City sinkhole in 2010 was a surprise and a shock to many, it looked exactly like a shaft of hell had opened up.

Well now one has opened up in Brooklyn NY of all places.

Giant sinkhole opens up in Brooklyn; nearly eats car [Updated]
The Earth went looking for a snack in Brooklyn on Wednesday when a twenty-foot deep, twenty-foot-wide sinkhole opened up between Fourth and Fifth Avenues in Bay Ridge at about 6 p.m., according to CBS. Several cars lined the collapsed portion of the street. Fortunately, the sinkhole didn’t swallow any vehicles; however, it got at least a taste of one that leaned into the gaping hole. “We’re so blessed,” said the Zen-like car owner. “If we were five minutes later or anything, we could have been in the hole.” Another cavity formed earlier in the summer in the same neighborhood. The cause is unknown and we’re not geologists, but our recollection of high school earth science tells us this is a pretty clear-cut case of an undernourished Earth.”

Ah! the update later says that the cause was a sewer line break, so the case is perfectly normal.

What I always find interesting about these events, whether they are explainable as normal or not, is the language used to report on them, and the reaction to them. People are skittish these days. You see it in the reporting. Maybe because I live with words and both my professions have been working with words (teacher, editor) I am tuned to the nuances of how a general trend in reporting goes. I’ve mentioned often that lately the news reports from Mainstream Media have used apocalyptic references and language, even some bible verses. I do not think this is because all those reporters are Christians, I think it is that though they are likely not saved, they are responding to the verse in Romans 1:18-20:

“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.”

As for the response of people in reading these reports, they remind me of the verse in Luke 21:25b

“…distress of nations in perplexity because of the roaring of the sea and the waves,”

That is not to be taken literally. The sea and the waves are a metaphor for the peoples of the earth in clamor, as the waves of judgment come roaring one after the other, faster and faster. The metaphor is used in like manner in Isaiah 8:7-8, and explained in Isaiah 57:20.

Don’t you feel that people are pretty skittish these days? Spooked? On edge? Look what happened in the days after Aurora shootings at theaters around the country. In one PA theater, they thought they saw a gun and there was a panic stampede out the door. It doesn’t take much to get people to act crazy these days. And for good reason!

This essay by Grant Phillips called Chaos to Glory really sums things up:

“So many souls, Christians and non-Christians, live in fear and dread today. Thousands are without jobs, or barely making a living. Retirement funds have disappeared into the pockets of thieves. The elderly are wondering how they are going to make it. It’s always been tough for them, but it’s getting worse, much worse. And then there is Obamacare. Plans for college have been put on hold or forgotten. Those graduating from colleges, universities, trade schools, etc. are shocked to find nothing there for them.”

“The cost of … well … everything, keeps going up, but the funds that come in the household have remained at the same level, shrunk or vanished. The only ones not feeling the effects are the wealthy and very wealthy. Nature has turned against man and taken his homes in floods, wildfires and other “natural” disasters. There is too much rain in some areas, and too much drought in others. Winter skipped Spring and went directly to Summer, and Summer is here with a blast. Extreme heat has broken over 4,500 records.”

“Any crime you care to mention is out of control. Our police agencies are swamped, and our jails and prisons are bursting at the seams. We may soon be hearing about the largest bank scandal in history. It is alleged that twenty major banks have been fixing interest rates for years. If this is true, it will affect the global financial system, and major Banks could crumble.”

“Diseases are rampant. New wars are anticipated. Earthquakes are breaking out around the globe. Volcanoes are waking up. Violent storms are moving over the oceans and headed toward land. And I’ve hardly scratched the surface. Is there anything that could possibly give us hope for a better day? All that is around us is nothing but utter chaos, and is worsening by the day. Suicides are up because people are losing hope. Can there possibly be sunshine at the end of this long tunnel?”

Yes! He goes on to cite the verses that give us hope. His essay is worth the read. I would make one editorial change to his piece, lol, if I may be permitted. Chaos is a good word to use for the lost. They see the world coming apart and it seems like chaos to them. But NOT to us. Jesus is in perfect control. Remember the verse above: why should be be in guard? Because, “I have told you these things beforehand.” That should actually give us comfort. It was planned between Him, the Father and the Spirit, it is coming to pass and it will come to its conclusion, just like He said.

That also means His plan for us will come to pass. In his piece, Grant cite his hope verses, and I’ll cite mine now:

“So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?” (Hebrews 13:6)

“Guard my life, for I am devoted to you. You are my God; save your servant who trusts in you.” (Psalm 86:2)

His holiness shows us that He can and will do it. His resurrection shows us He can and will do it. Prophecy shows us He can and will do it. So do not be afraid, even if a sinkhole opens up under us or a fireball flies by our eyes, He saves his servants who trust in Him. You know what some of the definitions of the Hebrew word for ‘saves’ means? Delivers, endowed with salvation, gained the victory! Because He lives, we are in Him, endowed with the greatest treasure of all, salvation by our Savior and knowledge of our Lord.

Even if a sinkhole opens beneath me, I shall proclaim Him! Even if a fireball streaks in front of me, I shall point to Him! In the panic and tumult around me, I exalt Him, the Prince of Peace!

“…be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you. (2 Corinthians 13:11b)
