Did Israel use a nuke at Damascus (likely not). And other news

Here are a few things I thought were interesting. First, the USGS list of earthquakes over the last 7 days. I know the disclaimer at the top of their page says they are going to stop updating the page at some point, but I keep using it until they do, because it is easier to read, has larger print, and has the major quakes in red so you can spot them easier. The new page has none of that. I noticed a cluster of smaller quakes in unusual places, occurring close in time. I list them here

2.9 WESTERN TEXAS
2.6 WESTERN MONTANA
2.8 WESTERN MONTANA
2.7 OREGON
2.6 WESTERN TEXAS
3.6 SOUTHERN IDAHO
4.2 SOUTHERN IDAHO
2.8 YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, WYOMING

The Australian reports ‘Lost continent’ found off Africa
“SCIENTISTS believe they’ve discovered the remains of a lost continent on the floor of the Indian Ocean off Africa. The research team from Norway, South Africa, Germany and the UK identified the ancient “microcontinent” after analysing beach sands from the island of Mauritius. They believe Mauritius was split from the larger island of Madagascar, 900 kilometres to the west, by volcanic eruptions between 61 and 84 million years ago. The beach sands were deposited by subsequent eruptions within the last nine million years. But the analysis found a smattering of zircon grains up to 2 billion years old, suggesting the recent volcanoes had spewed out fragments of an ancient continental crust.”

OK, this has the geological world pretty excited. They love anything that they believe supports an old earth construct. The earth is not billions of years old, despite what scientists and Jack Kelley say.

It seems likely that at some point however, the continents were joined, and during the flood the massive geological upheaval separated them. (source). That event was tremendously stressful to the earth. Remember the 9.0 quake at Japan two years ago. A short amount of shaking during that earthquake moved the earth’s axis and shortened the day! What did the Flood do to the lands? Peter says that the earth at that time was deluged with water and perished. (2 Peter 3:6). And as Gill’s Exposition says, ‘whatever alteration there might be in its form and position.’ Not that the earth passed away, but everything on it and in it died. One can only wonder at God’s power. Therefore though the earth is not billions of years old, it is interesting to wonder about a lost continent or two!

A few days ago, Israel carried out two strikes in Damascus. Foreign Policy magazine reports,
“Top news: The Syrian government charged Sunday that an overnight airstrike that targeted what is believed to be a military research center in Damascus was carried out by Israel, a development that marks the most significant international military action in the ongoing Syrian conflict and raises the specter that the conflict will spread beyond Syrian borders.”

The enemies of Israel are claiming that the massive explosion at Damascus the other night was in fact a nuclear blast. In viewing the video posted of the explosion from different angels, they say that the cloud that arise from the massive fireball looked like a mushroom cloud. The explosion happened at night and Israel is mum on the entire operation, so due to the fog of war it will likely be impossible to nail down whether a nuclear missile, a nuclear-type missile, or simply a powerful rocket destroyed the facility atop the Damascus mountain.

However that doesn’t matter a bit. Whether or not Israel used a low-level nuke (and I think that they did not) the enemies of Israel will simply claim that they did and run with it. This will provide them grounds to call for a retaliation, and also obscure the fact that there is evidence that the rebels used sarin gas (a deadly poison).

John McTernan wonders if WWIII has broken out, and though sometimes he gets a bit over-excited, I admit I wondered the same thing myself when I saw that blast. You can view the Youtube eyewitness video of the massive explosion, here, and/or search Youtube for other angles to view. When I saw how large that explosion was, like McTernan, I wondered, “Is this it?”

I was reading Zechariah last night, tears coming to my eyes at the sweep and scope of the LORD’S work upon the earth. We often settle into reading the same chapters which point to last days prophecy- Matthew 24, Revelation, Psalm 83, Ezekiel 38 & 39, and Isaiah 17 and 19. But the bible holds so much more, of course. Obadiah is interesting, if difficult. Zechariah enhances Revelation, being an almost parallel. Ezekiel 40-48 gloriously describe the Millennium kingdom. The last third of Isaiah points to Israel’s restoration. And so on. Don’t be afraid to branch out in reading Old Testament passages from the major and minor prophets. The Lord is great to behold, no matter what passage you read and no matter how much or how little one understands it at the time. Continual reading opens the passageways of understanding. And don’t forget Peter, Paul, Jude and other NT writers had stuff to say about the last days, too. So don’t get stuck in a rut, read, read, read- widely and often!

Loud boom/explosion in north Louisiana, shakes homes, breaks windows

UPDATE: The officials at the local base, Camp Minden, say that the explosion was caused by a bunker  exploding. They don’t know why the bunker exploded. They reassured residents that it was a “contained” explosion though. So there’s that.

In the wee hours of the morning, a loud explosion or boom was heard in northern Louisiana.

Last night KSLA 12 reported a huge boom. The boom or explosion shook homes and broke windows across a large swathe of the northern part of the state. Officials are investigating but are not sure what the shaking boom was from or why it happened. KSLA reported:

“1:15 a.m. Update: Webster Parish Sheriff Gary Sexton tells us they “definitely had something happen” in Webster Parish Monday night. Sheriff Sexton confirms all of the explosion manufacturing facilities and natural gas facilities in Webster Parish have been ruled out as the source. Sheriff Sexton adds that there is a “possibility that a meteor did hit the ground” in the area, but deputies have not pinpointed an exact location. He does suspect it happened in a secluded area between Minden and Dixie Inn. Sheriff Sexton said, first thing Tuesday morning, he will dispatch helicopters in the air to look for any damage.”

“KSLA News 12 viewer Shana Levick tells us she was driving on I-20 by Dixie Inn when she saw the sky light up a bright orange color. She said she could see what appeared to be small fire sparks above the tree lines. Another witness near Dixie Inn told KSLA News 12 photographer Cody Jennings that he saw something flash across the sky streaming from the west or southwest direction. That witness also reported seeing a bright flash that lasted for a while. Authorities are investigating a loud boom that shook homes across Northwest Louisiana Monday night.”

“We are getting reports that people heard an explosion just before 11:30 p.m. from areas including: Minden, Doyline, Haughton, South Bossier and Shreveport. Callers are also reporting seeing a bright light flash in the sky when they heard the boom. Officials with the Webster Parish Sheriff’s Office tell us they have crews searching for the source of the noise.”

The Shreveport Times reported,

UPDATED: Something shakes northwest La.
“Northwest Louisiana authorities are investigating the source of whatever shook people’s residences and businesses about 11:40 p.m. Monday. The Webster sheriff’s office now is entertaining the possibility that it may have been a meteorite, possibly in the Dixie Inn area. There have been a large number of reports stating that they saw something come down instead of something blow up, a spokesman said. … helicopters are expected to be in the air this morning to survey the area along U.S. 80 and Interstate 20 for the cause of what caused the ground to shake. Reports of the shaking came in from Lake Bistineau, Springhill, Sibley and Barksdale Air Force Base.”

The explosion is at the north near Shreveport and the sinkhole/collapsing butane cavern in Bayou Corne, Assumption Parish is at the south.

Truly interesting times…I’ll find out more as the day goes on and post any new facts later.

What’s with all these wells blowing up today?

Ponder these and later I’ll post a prophetic analysis to it. If the Spirit leads…meanwhile, pray for the poor men and women on all these sites who are experiencing pain at this tragic time…

North Texas Gas Explosion Kills 3
DALLAS – A gas well explosion in North Texas has killed at least three people and is sending enormous flames and plumes of smoke into the sky The fire broke out at about 3 p.m. at 2101 County Road 1120 in Hood County, south of Fort Worth. At least 10 others are missing. CareFlite dispatched four air ambulance helicopters to the scene. The blaze consists of flames hundreds of feet high and can be seen from at least 30 miles away. Additionally, Sky 4 helicopter pilot Mike Warner said it was so intense he could feel the heat from nearly a mile away. The force of the blast and resulting burn also generated spinning spirals of smoke resembling funnel clouds, often called dust devils. Area residents report hearing a loud explosion or series of explosions. They also said they felt the earth rumble and their homes shake for several minutes. Tracy Mann heard the ruckus and said she initially thought a summer storm was brewing. But the situation quickly turned into something Mann knew was unusual. “Boy that has really lasted a long time for some thunder,” Mann said. “All of our windows were shaking.” A brushfire sparked by the explosion has already consumed about 200 acres, Warner said.

West Virginia gas blast hurts 7, sparks inferno
70-foot high column of flame blazes at former coal mine
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A crew drilling a natural gas well through an abandoned coal mine in West Virginia’s Northern Panhandle hit a pocket of methane gas that somehow ignited, triggering an explosion that burned seven workers, a state inspector said Monday. The blast created a column of flame at least 70 feet high, and it will likely burn until a team of well fire experts can reach the scene to extinguish it, said Bill Hendershot, an inspector with the Department of Environmental Protection’s Office of Oil and Gas. The fire is in a rural area outside Moundsville and presents no danger to any structures or people, Hendershot said.

BP Well Bore And Casing Integrity May Be Blown, Says Florida’s Sen. Nelson
Oil and gas are leaking from the seabed surrounding the BP Macondo well in the Gulf of Mexico, Senator Bill Nelson of Florida told Andrea Mitchell today on MSNBC. Nelson, one of the most informed and diligent Congressmen on the BP gulf oil spill issue, has received reports of leaks in the well, located in the Mississippi Canyon sector. This is potentially huge and devastating news. If Nelson is correct in that assertion, and he is smart enough to not make such assertions lightly, so I think they must be taken at face value, it means the well casing and well bore are compromised and the gig is up on containment pending a completely effective attempt to seal the well from the bottom via successful “relief wells”. In fact, I have confirmed with Senator Nelson’s office that they are fully aware of the breaking news and significance of what the Senator said to Andrea Mitchell.

Pennsylvania well brought under control after natural-gas explosion
Natural gas and polluted drilling water from an out-of-control well shot 75 feet into the air in a remote area of Pennsylvania before crews were able to tame the flow of explosive gas more than half a day later, officials said Friday.
