No to crucifix for Christian nurse; yes to jewelry for Muslims

Crucifix nurse loses tribunal

A Christian nurse who lost a discrimination claim against her employer over her right to wear a crucifix has claimed the tribunal’s decision marks “a very bad day for Christianity”. An employment tribunal ruled in favour of the Royal Devon and Exeter NHS Trust Hospital over a claim by nurse Shirley Chaplin that being asked to remove a necklace bearing a crucifix would “violate her faith”. Mrs Chaplin was then moved to a desk job in order to comply with the trust’s health and safety policy which viewed necklaces of any sort as a potential hazard which could be grabbed by patients. Mrs Chaplin, who wore the emblem at the tribunal hearing in Exeter, said she would stand by her convictions irrespective of the decision and continue to wear the crucifix.

Muslim staff escape hygiene rule, also can wear jewellry
Female staff who follow the Islamic faith will be allowed to cover their arms to preserve their modesty despite earlier guidance that all staff should be “bare below the elbow”. The Department of Health has also relaxed rules prohibiting jewellery so that Sikh members of staff can wear bangles linked with their faith, providing they are pushed up the arm while the medic treats a patient. The Department of Health has also relaxed rules prohibiting jewelery so that Sikh members of staff can wear bangles linked with their faith, providing they are pushed up the arm while the medic treats a patient.

Crucifix nurse accuses NHS of double standards over uniform rules for Muslims
The Christian nurse who lost her discrimination case against the NHS after refusing to remove her crucifix has accused the health service of “double standards” after it emerged Muslims doctors and nurses will be allowed to wear long sleeves [and jewelry] for religious reasons.

Isaiah 5:20 “Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.” A double standard for sure, but in these days when good is called evil we should know that we were told that there shall be godlessness in the last days, (II Timothy 3:1-5,) and that many would fall away from the faith and worship doctrines of demons (II Timothy 3:1-5,7)

UK PM Calls for World Financial Constitution

In Gordon Brown’s speech, he is exactly right. We have suffered a speedy transformation of world economic systems. The last two years have been transformative. Read the following excerpted transcript, or watch the speech starting at 2:00 with the following in mind: the prophecy in Revelation will come true. A global financial system will be implemented. Revelation 13:16-17 – “He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead, so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name.”

UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown World Economy Speech “Only in retrospect do people see the significance of the times in which they are living through. But in the last two years our world has been suffering not just an ordinary economic downturn but what will be remembered as the first crisis of globalization. It’s the first crisis of a world being totally transformed by the scale of global financial flows, but the global sourcing of goods, and by the speed, the scale and the scope of globalization itself. And it’s a world of massive new opportunities that I want to talk about. But also as we found  it is a world of massive new uncertainties and insecurities too. What we have experienced is not just the inflation-driven economic crises, such as we have seen in t he past 50 years, but a wholesale crisis that has gone right to the heart of the global financial system itself. And so it is time for us, as we reflect on these events, to draw conclusions about te new framework and the new policies we do need to build a stronger and a fairer world economy that will meet the need of its citizens in this new global age. …  Without radical change…we will not be able to emerge… So here are my proposals for discussion: First of all, I believe we need nothing short of a World Constitution for the Global Financial System.”

More on the fishing ban in the Sea of Galilee

Most prophecy serves a dual purpose, a near-fulfillment and a future fulfillment. Like the two floors on a double decker bus, the same prophetic utterances in the bible can have two fulfillments far apart in time. One example is in the fulfillment of a Messiah for the Jews. Prophecies said that the Messiah would be both a suffering servant and a conquering king. The Essenes, a strong sect during John the Baptists’ day, interpreted the prophecy incorrectly, believing that there would be two Messiahs, since the Torah had described such diferent (seeming) Messiahs to fulfill the prophecy.

John the Baptist asked in Luke 7:20 “Are you the One or are we to expect another?’ just to clear up the Essenes’ misunderstanding. That is also why the 12 Disciples thought Jesus was there to conquer Rome and overthrow the Jews’ oppression by that nation-state, since 483 years of the predicted 490 had passed in Daniel’s prophecy as to when the King would arrive. Little did the Disciples know that there would be a two-thousand year pause in the proceedings for the Jews! But Jesus has/will come twice, first as the suffering Servant and then again as the Conquering King. Zechariah 9:9-10 spoke of a humble messiah speaking peace to the nations, but in Zechariah 14:3-4 it tells of a King who defeats nations in war and makes the earth tremble. Two Kings? No, one King, two fulfillments, spaced apart by two thousand years.

Hosea prophesied. Many of his prophesies are dual but some may be single. It takes study and prayerful appeal to the Holy Spirit to correctly discern which are past prophesies and which are dual and which are single only. For example, Isaiah 17:1 says that Damascus will be destroyed, completely cut off from being a city. Since Damascus is the oldest continuously inhabited city in the world, that prophecy obviously has not been fulfilled yet. Hosea 3:4-5 speaks of the Second Coming, which again, obviously has not occurred yet: “For the Israelites will live many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred stones, without ephod or idol. Afterward the Israelites will return and seek the Lord their God and David their king.”

In another Hosea prophecy, Chapter 4:1-3 tells of  God’s controversy with Israel. It begins:

Listen to the word of the LORD, O sons of Israel,
For the LORD has a case against the inhabitants of the land,
Because there is no faithfulness or kindness
Or knowledge of God in the land.
There is swearing, deception, murder, stealing and adultery
They employ violence, so that bloodshed follows bloodshed.
Therefore the land mourns,
And everyone who lives in it languishes
Along with the beasts of the field and the birds of the sky,
And also the fish of the sea disappear

The curses go on for quite a length of time, but you get the idea.

Though God has forever blessed His people and their possession of the land, their enjoyment of the land is conditional on how well they obey. The forever covenant of the land is known as the Abrahamic Covenant, and the conditional covenant based on obedience is known as the Mosaic Covenant. The conditions of the covenant God gave to Moses for the People is outlined quite specifically in Deuteronomy 28. It is seen that God does withdraw His blessing. Indeed, the Tribulation is known as the Time of Jacob’s Trouble, and it’s the period when God deals with the Israelites. Many terrible things happen during that time to the Jews. They are hunted, overcome, invaded, killed, persecuted, ravished, and more. Zechariah tells of a future time, the Tribulation, when “I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem to battle, and the city will be captured, the houses plundered, the women ravished and half of the city exiled, but the rest of the people will not be cut off from the city.” So we can see that though Israel is forever blessed to possess land and to be His people, at times God curses them because of disobedience or to draw them back to Him. Hosea 5 finishes this way:

“I will go away and return to My place
         Until they acknowledge their guilt and seek My face;
In their affliction they will earnestly seek Me.”

Does it surprise you to know that God does withdraw blessings of abundance from His people? That the Tribulation is totally about bringing the People to their knees in acknowledgement of His sovereignty over them? Back to the news I wrote of yesterday that the Sea of Galilee is closed to fishing. In Hosea 4:3 we read that as God withdraws His blessing on Israel their abundant fishing that has been so productive for so many years goes away. “And the fish of the sea disappear.” Is this a sign that The Time of Jacob’s Trouble is about to begin? Only God knows for sure, but we are commanded to watch, and to know the signs.

Sea of Galilee closed to fishing

The fish from Galilee figures prominently in the ministry of Jesus. The early followers of Jesus were called followers of The Way, and were known by the symbol of the fish. Jesus called four of His disciples who were fishermen to His ministry as apostles. He told them they would instead be fishers of men. Jesus fed 5000 with two fish caught from the Galilean sea. He rebuked the sea of Galilee when it struck up a storm like to drown the men on the boat (though Jesus slept). He called Peter to His ministry by telling fishless and dispirited Peter to drop his nets on the other side of the boat and so he did and drew in many fish. He answered the question about temple taxes by telling Peter to get a fish and then extracted a coin from its mouth, using it to pay the temple tax. That fish has become known as St. Peter’s Fish to this day. He made His resurrected self known to His disciples by cooking them a supper of fish and ate with them on the shores of the sea of Galilee. Fish from the mosaic of a third or fourth-century church floor from Megiddo, only recently discovered in 2005

The importance of the fish in the bible and especially from the New Testament through the emphasis by Jesus and His use of the fish as a means of parable, work, food, and symbol cannot be overstated. Though the Sea of Galilee is only 33 miles in circumference, 13 miles long, and 8 miles wide, it has supported fishing in abundance for over 2000 years. The first-century historian Josephus was so impressed by the area that he wrote, “One may call this place the ambition of Nature.” Josephus reported a thriving fishing industry at that time, with 230 boats regularly working in the lake.

A preacher in the later 1800s, visiting the Sea of Galilee noted, “the density of the shoals of fish in the Sea of Galilee can scarcely be conceived by those who have not witnessed them”. That abundance has kept pace with the population increase through 2005.

Indeed, the Sea of Galilee yielded about 300 tons of fish in 2005. However, disaster has struck. The haul for 2009 was only 8 tons. The drop has been precipitous, and thus in a drastic move, now Fishing is banned on the Sea of Galilee “Fishing in the Sea of Galilee has been banned, Israel’s Ministry of Agriculture has announced, amid claims stocks have fallen to a dangerous low. …The decree ends a tradition which has continued virtually unchanged since Biblical times”

It feels sad, and also spiritually agitating. No more fish to catch! Anyone who knows that the call of a Christian to be fishers of men knows that this is a terrible loss, metaphorically speaking. The fish of the Sea of Galilee is such an important part of what Jesus did to show us His principles, that to lose the fish after so long and so unexpectedly almost feels like God is withdrawing His blessing on Israel. It feels like it is a signal … of something. I have no words. Except, pray for Israel.

UPDATE: I’m not sure exactly what the verses mean in relation to the story but I feel they do have relation to it.

“Why have You made men like the fish of the sea, Like creeping things without a ruler over them?” Hab 1:14

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a large net thrown into the sea. It collected every kind [of fish], and when it was full, they dragged it ashore, sat down, and gathered the good [fish] into containers, but threw out the worthless ones.” [Matthew 13:47-48]

Are you running your race well? The fig tree is blooming!

A ladybug traversing the concrete walkway meets up with a bird feather but keeps going despite the hindrance.

I am “holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain.” [Phil 2:16] Are you running well, or toiling in vain? Christian, are you able to say, “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith;”? [2Tim 4:7] The journey is long and we are small, only humble servants and wretched sinners. There are obstacles and there are hindrances to our course. Some stumble when hindrances are met. “You were running well; who hindered you from obeying the truth?” [Gal 5:7]. Keep running! Keep one step in front of the other! The time is but a vapor, so short, and what is hunger or cold or discomfort to us when we have an eternity of peace and joy to look forward to?

“Now learn the parable from the fig tree: when its branch has already become tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near.”

“so, you too, when you see all these things, recognize that He is near, right at the door.” [Mt 24:32-33]

Earthquakes, solar storms and volcanoes, oh, my!

Spaceweather.com is closer to the truth than they know:

“THE ACTION IN ICELAND: Sometimes both heaven and Earth erupt. Such was the case on April 4th when an outburst of auroras met an outburst of lava in southern Iceland:”

“Kristinn R. Kristinsson took the picture from a glacier overlooking Iceland’s active Eyjafjallajökull volcano. The volcano erupted on March 20th for the first time in 190 years–and it has been spewing lava and attracting sightseers ever since. Even Top Gear is filming an episode there. On April 4th a solar wind gust hit Earth and ignited auroras almost directly above the lava flow. Kristinsson was in the right place at the right time to see the display. April 4th marked the beginning of a major solar wind storm, which is only now subsiding. The four-day event brought auroras to the lava fields of Iceland, created a kaleidoscopic display of moving color over Antarctica, and lured onlookers in Siberia outdoors…” www.spaceweather.com

Discovery.com reports on the solar storm buffeting earth this last week giving off those beautiful auroras such as the one in the above photo: “A blast of solar wind is pummeling Earth’s magnetosphere, sparking the strongest geomagnetic storm so far this year. Though it registered a “7” on the 0-to-9 K-index scale of magnetic disturbances, the storm is expected to pass quickly.” A seven out of nine. Hmmm, that’s a strong storm. It is the strongest space storm we have had in three years. “The solar storm prompted NOAA to issue a Space Weather Advisory on Monday and gave astronauts aboard the International Space Station something to write home about.” It hit earlier and harder than expected, too.

Well suffice to say that neither the sudden volcanic eruption in Iceland nor the hard-hitting solar storm were an unexpected event on God’s calendar. “There will be signs in sun and moon and stars, and on the earth dismay among nations, in perplexity at the roaring of the sea and the waves, men fainting from fear and the expectation of the things which are coming upon the world; for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. (Luke 21:25-26) (Below, Iceland Eyjafjallajokull volcano, NASA pic) People are asking (OK, betting) on when the next volcano will erupt, and which one it will be. “What Will Be The Next Volcano to Erupt?”  The fact that the Iceland volcano erupted so suddenly after 2000 years has drawn eyes to Italy, where Mount Etna and Vesuvius are rumbling ominously, and to volcanoes in general. It is startling when an Icelandic Volcano which has been dormant for 200 years has erupted causing a large fissure in a field of ice to form. The eruption near Eyjafjallajoekull glacier, 75 metres east of Reykjavik, began to erupt just over the weekend sending lava one hundred metres into the air and it is still erupting. The eruption meant caused Icelandic airspace to close with flights being diverted as well closing roads….”

The earth is shaking. People are noticing. Earthquakes are shaking people up as well. I wish they were waking people up here in America, but alas, though they ask “Are All These Earthquakes Normal?” they ask the wrong people. Therefore answer is unfortunate and distinctly unhelpful: “Folks who work at the United States Geological Survey Earthquake Center in Golden, Colo., don’t just track temblors, they also answer the public’s questions via phone and email. The number one question they’ve been getting lately: “Is this the end of the world?” according to Heidi Koontz, the center’s Public Affairs Specialist. News of four major quakes in as many months, in Haiti, Chile, Mexico and Indonesia, has prompted a tinge of panic in some who would otherwise consider these events pure coincidence. “I received a call from a psychiatrist who is getting an influx of patients who are really concerned about the end of days,” says Koontz, “and he wanted us to pinpoint science and provide him with links to science that would help allay the fears of some of his patients. He needed some hard facts and he said that that actually helped.”

It is perceptive to ask if it is the end of the world. We were given signs to watch for and told it would happen. However, it is pointless to ask someone who does not have a biblical perspective, for the answer will be given on a basis absent of truth. No, these earthquakes are not normal.

The question was addressed by CNN too. Quake frequency normal, scientists say. “Yes, it seems as if there have been a lot of strong earthquakes this year. And no, it’s not a signal that the planet is coming apart at the seams, seismologists say.” Why, yes, it is that the planet is coming apart at the seams, Christian watchmen say. “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains.” (Mark 13:8)

Forget asking the psychologist, the psychologist, and the geologist. Ask your questions but seek the answers in the Bible, and pray to Jesus to forgive your sins. It is the ONLY conversation that matters at this point. Repent!

‘Alien landing’ prank causes panic in Jordan

The BBC reports:

“The mayor of Jafr, 185 miles east of Jordan’s capital Amman, is considering suing a newspaper after their April Fools Day joke caused widespread panic. Jordanian paper Al-Ghad’s front-page story described flying saucers carrying ’10ft tall’ aliens had landing in the small desert town late at night. Jafr’s mayor, Mohammed Mleihan, described the disruption caused by the story: “Students didn’t go to school, their parents were frightened and I almost evacuated the town’s 13,000 residents,” Mr Mleihan told the Associated Press. He was swift to call in the security authorities, who he said then combed the area looking for the aliens. A Jordanian security official, speaking anonymously, said an emergency plan was almost enacted in Jafr. While it has become somewhat traditional across much of the world for newspapers to publish hoax articles on 1 April, it is not a common practice in Jordan. Managing editor of Al-Ghad, Moussa Barhoumeh, apologised for any inconvenience and tried to defuse the situation, saying “We meant to entertain, not scare people,”

1 Timothy 4:1,7a says “But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons, … But have nothing to do with worldly fables fit only for old women.”

Note that the words at the beginning of the verse in the NASB are that the Spirit explicitly says. In the NIV it says the Spirit clearly says and in the KJV ‘the Spirit speaketh expressly‘. I think that it should be clear to us that God is emphasizing that it will be a time of incredibly heightened deception. I’ve been writing about how the last days are a time of increased deception. (here, here, here)  In this run-up to the coming of the lawless one, there will be counterfeit miracles, lying signs and wonders, and evil as stated by Paul to the Thessalonians. “The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved.” (2 Thess 2:9)

Jesus was even more clear in Matthew 24:24 “For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. “We should not be ignorant of satan’s schemes, then, so as not to fall prey to the lies of the end times. (2 Cor 2:11)

So what are satan’s schemes and what are these upcoming deceptions? Well, satan schemes to get us to doubt the truth of God and His Word. He has since he planted the first seed of doubt first seed of doubt in the garden, in Genesis 3: he told Eve, “Has God said…?” If satan can get us to doubt God’s creation then we can doubt His Word. God did not make aliens. He made the angels and He made the animal kingdom and He made man after His own likeness. The bible does not record any other living things being created and living on other planets and interacting with us. If they were then that would mean they were affected by original sin and that Jesus died for them too. However the bible does not record anything to that effect.

The bible does record that there are beings from space who interact with humans, and those are the obedient angels, and the fallen angels. In pre-flood days, the fallen angels mated with human women, whom they thought beautiful, and the women bore their children. (“The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.” Gen 6:4). There are no “aliens” as traditionally thought.

As for the Jordanian town that was so scared by the alien report to the point of panic. One article says “mayhem” occurred. Imagine how receptive to the lie of aliens they were, for the mayor to be ready to evacuate an entire town and on the basis of one report! And the report being published on April FOOL’S DAY! They would have to been good and ready to accept the deulsion that aliens were abounding. They would have to have been predisposed that other life forms exist and interact with humans. These paradigms don’t just appear in people’s thoughts. They are just not immediately ready to accept the fact of other life forms so easily. People do not panic and make plans to evade these life forms so readily unless they are predisposed to readily believe a lie. These thoughts have to be planted in global consciousness and then grown, built, and when ready, fomented. By the looks of how easily panic was fomented in Jafr, stick a fork in us, we’re done.

Christian, do not be deceived by lying signs. Do not be so eagerly ready to accept reports of aliens, the fact of which contradicts the bible record. Leaders who are not saved are more and more jittery and more ready to accept lies than ever before- and their decisions impact us. We should not be ignorant of satan’s schemes. For Pete’s sake, the bible tells us outright that there will be lying signs and wonders. Stay strong in the Word and know what is planned for us since the foundation of the world. Not widespread panic, but widespread peace. Not aliens come to snatch us away, but Jesus come to rapture us away. Not aliens to attack us but angels to protect us. Your protection from lying signs and wonders, delusions and deceptions is the safety of forgiveness in Jesus, and His word of Truth. It’s a peaceful place to be.

7.8 Sumatra earthquake, earthquakes are a sign

For nation will rise up against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; there will be earthquakes in various places; there will also be famines. These things are merely the beginning of birth pangs. (Mark 13:8)

Jesus said that earthquakes in various places will be a sign of His soon return.

Yesterday there was a 7.3 quake at the US-Mexican border. Today there has been a 7.8 in Sumatra Indonesia. Back at the Cali-Mex border there have been 1000 quakes in the last 24 hours, aftershocks of that big one yesterday evening. Also, there is a NEW quake swarm at Yellowstone: as reported at the Raging Debate blog:
“My friend Stormbringer who monitors the Seismos around Yellowstone closely wised me up to a new Swarm of quakes around the caldera there.  These swarms seem to be coming much more often now, and though so far the magnitudes are small, this seems to be a more focused event and could indicate deterioration in the integrity of the surface structrue of Yellowstone.  I’m hoping Stormbringer will join us here so we can hash this one out.  Here are the latest in the swarm of Yellowstone Quakes:”

Now is the time to repent. Repent means that you recognize you are a sinner. That means you know you think, say, or do things that displease God. If you are truly sorry you have sinned (and we all have, Romans 3:23, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”) then just believe that Jesus is the only worthy one who can forgive them, and ask Him. He will! Turn from your sins, repent, for the end is nigh.

News of the strange: hairless, unknown animal found in China

LOL. Strange discovery today. An animal of a type no one’s ever seen and so weird we have to do DNA tests on it. Is it a cryptid? Last September I wrote, “Creeped out by Cryptids; Are monsters among us?” and I urge you to read the rest of that entry after reading the UK Telegraph’s story about this little guy in China…

Oriental Yeti discovered in China
The hairless beast was trapped by hunters in Sichuan province after locals reported spotting what they thought was a bear.

“Hunter Lu Chin explained: “It looks a bit like a bear but it doesn’t have any fur and it has a tail like a kangaroo.” It also does not sound like a bear – it has a voice more like a cat and it is calling all the time – perhaps it is looking for the rest of its kind or maybe it’s the last one? There are local legends of a bear that used to be a man and some people think that’s what we caught,” he added. Local animal experts now plan to shipped the mystery beast to scientists in Beijing who will perform DNA tests on the beast.”

I wrote then of cryptids: “So, monsters and the end time. What have they to do with each other? Jesus answered the disciples’ query as to the signs of the end with what is known as the Olivet Discourse, a talk with the disciples on the Mount of Olives. Jesus used the word “deceive” many times, to indicate an end-time atmosphere of deception riddled with false christs and false prophets, lies upon lies and false wonders and signs to back up the lies.

In addition to deception, people have power to deceive through lying signs and wonders. This is consistent with the regular people in the Old and New Testaments. Pharaoh’s magicians could perform lying miracles, they turned their staffs into snakes in front of Moses. Acts 8:9 talks of a magician named Simon who was practicing magic in the city and bewitching the people of Samaria. In the time to come, the false prophets of the tribulation and the antichrist will also perform lying signs and wonders to deceive even the very elect, if that were possible. 2 Thessalonians talks about the deceptions of the antichrist and how strong they will be and how pervasively they will penetrate. But that is a time to come. How do we get from here and now to then?

Gradually. Like creeping apostasy, preparing the secular world to accept supernatural events takes time. It is a gradual creep that builds, like an evil symphony dementedly moving toward the crescendo.”

The sign of the undisturbed grave cloths

I learned of the undisturbed grave cloths and of how Nicodemus brought a hundred pounds of myrrh and aloes and Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimethea wrapped the body of Jesus, then he hastened home because it was dusk. Incidentally, myrrh was worth its weight in gold, being an extremely expensive item, and the fact that Nicodemus had so much and used so much, meant that Jesus was not only buried by a rich man but buried AS a rich man. Regarding the wrapping of the body,  I had overlooked that portion of the story, focusing more on Mary’s arrival at dawn after the Sabbath. I searched the Bible to see where the verses were that describe this wrapping of Jesus’ body so I could ponder more. Here is what I found:

John 20:2-9
“Then she runneth, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the LORD out of the sepulchre, and we know not where they have laid him. Peter therefore went forth, and that other disciple, and came to the sepulchre. So they ran both together: and the other disciple did outrun Peter, and came first to the sepulchre. And he stooping down, and looking in, saw the linen clothes lying; yet went he not in. Then cometh Simon Peter following him, and went into the sepulchre, and seeth the linen clothes lie, And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself. Then went in also that other disciple, which came first to the sepulchre, and he saw, and believed. For as yet they knew not the scripture, that he must rise again from the dead.”

What do they see that caused them to believe instantly, extant of scriptures? This link is the KJV in hypertext to Strong’s so that you can read the Greek words and definitions yourself. Be a Berean.

Here is what they saw:

John 19:39-40

“And there came also Nicodemus, which at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about an hundred pound weight. Then took they the body of Jesus, and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as the manner of the Jews is to bury.”

After washing and straightening the body, they would wrap the body in strips of cloth and at each layer would apply the myrrh and aloe until the body was completely wrapped. The myrrh and aloe hardened into a shellac-like substance making a hard encasement out of the wrappings. The head and face would not be wrapped but instead, an embroidered kerchief would be placed over the head.

John at the entrance to the tomb saw the cloths lying undisturbed with no kerchief over the face. The Greek word blepo for this first use of ‘saw’ means simply to look at. Then Peter arrived and went inside the tomb and ‘saw’. It is not the same word, it is theóreó from which we get theory. Peter ‘saw’ and perceived. Then John came inside the tomb, saw and believed. This third use of the word ‘saw’ is eidó, see and comprehend.

John saw a hard case of the cloths in the shape of a man’s body with no body inside!! Like a cocoon, it had not cracked nor had been broken yet indisputably there was no person inside. Further, the head kerchief had been carefully rolled up and placed aside.

He is not here! He is risen!

Do you believe?
