Signs: are you diligently learning and looking?

Originally in Norwegian, this is a Google-translated article:

“Crop Circles” on the ice in Arna
Friday night as Ole Johan Hansen (77) a mysterious light in the harbor Arna in Bergen. The next morning was a beautiful and inexplicable pattern appeared right there.

“Want was about two feet long, and was not like Noer I’ve seen before. Since the clock was 11 at night and I was not sure if the ice is safe, I tried to look in my binoculars if there was someone there. I could not see anyone, “says Ole Johan Hansen (77). Hansen lives just off the waterfront in Arna harbor. When he got up Saturday morning, he could hardly believe what he saw. During the night has a symmetrical pattern formed on the ice. The pattern arises from about eight holes in the ice. According to Hansen range rings around 50 meters to the northeast, and 300 feet the other direction. Neither Hansen or sambygding John Halvor Sæle (58) have seen the holes that the pattern arises from before Saturday morning.

– The pattern is amazing good. I have never seen the like, said Sæle. Meteorologist Geir Ottar Fagerlid admitted to parish news that he was thinking in the natural path when he saw the pictures, and that pattern is reminiscent of the mysterious phenomenon of “corn circles”. That there should be something inexplicable, sits deep inside. My theory was first and foremost that the rings can be created by hot water, for example, from sewage, which is the ice to melt. But it is hard to say. Beautiful it is in any case, says Fagerlid.

– Created by meteorite? John Halvor Sæle believe the rings can be created by a meteorite. “It was the first thing I thought. I think at least not that the holes are created by people. For that, they are too big and too far from shore. It is totally inexplicable,” says Sæle. Astrophysicist Knut Jørgen Røed Ødegaard confirms that the pattern of the theory may have been caused by a small meteorite. But this is unlikely, as a meteorite would probably have been observed by many, and been seen as a bright streak in the sky before it ended in Arna.

Can come from high and low tide? “It’s all very fascinating, I’ve never seen before,” says Ødegaard. “But something supernatural I do not think it is. It is likely that the symmetrical pattern become that there were holes in the ice after isfiskere, and it has formed a concentric pattern around when the water rises and falls at the high and low tide. It is not unusual, although they are never as symmetric as this,” says Ødegaard.

Unexplained light? “The light may have come from someone who was out on the ice and fished. But I can not see that there are some tracks in the snow. The second theory is that what I saw was a reflection of street lights across the bay. But now it has become dark again, and I can not see any light reflection,” says Ole Johan Hansen. Astrophysicist Knut Jørgen Røed Ødegaard has no theory about what it was. “The light can not certainly not have come from a meteorite. A meteorite that still lights up when it hits the ground, has a force of at least 1000 atomic bombs.” says Ødegaard.

I have been considering the extraordinariness of this interview/article since I read it last night. What it boils down to is this:

Fishermen with water expertise can’t explain what they saw. Residents with historical memory can’t explain it. Astrophysicists with knowledge of the skies can’t explain it. Something happened that cannot be explained.

The consequences of man’s over-reliance on science as the answer to everything are coming to the fore now. Man has thought wrongly for too long, that since he can explain things through science and logic, it means he is in control. But in the dim recesses of our global history, who could explain the Red Sea parting? A flood that covers the whole world? A bush that burns yet is not consumed? Frogs coming up out of nowhere and everywhere? Rivers turning to blood? A star that leads three wise men to the exact house where Jesus lay? A man who was dead for three days in the tomb, rising and walking? Who can explain how the pyramids were built? These events are recorded in history, seen by eyewitnesses, and some even are evident to this day, yet they defy scientific explanation.

Among other methods, like the prophets for example, God has also spoken to us through signs. God said He would speak to us in the end days through symptoms and events and signs. He speaks, He punishes, He confirms, He demonstrates through signs. He confirmed the Apostles’ work through signs. In Mark 16:20 it is written, “Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.” In Hebrews 2:4 it is written, “God also testifying with them, both by signs and wonders and by various miracles and by gifts of the Holy Spirit according to His own will.” The Geneva Study bible explains, “This is the true purpose of miracles. Now they are called signs, because they appear as one thing, and represent another: and they are called wonders, because they represent some strange and unaccustomed thing: and powers because they give us a glimpse of God’s mighty power.”

We understand and accept these signs, rely on them even:

Why is that we do not accept these signs:

(AFP/Getty image) Chilean earthquake, building split in half

Wave hitting cruise ship, killing two and injuring many others.

Fireball frenzy this week in Duluth, MN

Huge solar filament growing, could produce a coronal mass ejection. Those with solar telescopes are advised to monitor, says spaceweather.com.

Why does secular man, and even believers, not understand those signs, especially since He already told us He would send earthquakes and roaring and tossing seas and signs in the sky?

Jesus told us to watch, and it is my opinion one of the reasons to watch is to accumulate context and understanding over the long haul. Many things use another language, sports for example. If you watch a basketball game for the first time, you listen to the announcers who are speaking in English, but there is a second language as a subtext going on that at first you do not understand. You do not understand the signals the players send each other, nor the signs that the ref uses. Learning the language of the game takes time, and understanding grows with each hour you put into it. You also benefit by building up a history and a context. You remember that a certain play had never been used before, or that a certain team usually plays a certain way against another team. You learn the intricacies. If you tune in for the first time late in the game, you don’t know what in the world is going on.

Reading the bible is the same. It speaks to us in plain English, (or whatever your language is), but it also speaks to us in metaphors, parables, poetry, and signs. The more you read, the more you learn. When you see a sign in the world you are more able to relate it to what God has said. You remember the great earthquake that swallowed Korah’s army– the ground splitting open and swallowing all those assembled, their animals and households too. And then the earth closed back up again! You remember how diligently the Wise Men of Persia learned the signs of the sun and moon and stars and listened to what those signs were saying.

Was the ice circle in Arna a sign? Or just methane? Was it part of the cadre of signs and wonders that God said He would send? Or was it simply a one-time natural phenomena? You may not ever be sure, but this is for certain, you will never know if you do not learn the language of the bible and the signifying language that God said He would speak to us in these times. Are you one of these Christians who say that the times of signs is over,  dying out with the Apostles? That there is always a “natural explanation” of the things coming upon the world? You are missing half the language in which our Savior reaches out to us. Take the time (again) to read the 4 gospels, and Timothy, James, Daniel, Revelation…and  the other books in which God performed signs and in which He said more would come. Learn the signs, and then look up! For our Redemption draweth nigh!

Crystal Caves in Mexico remind of New Jerusalem

Christians who diligently focus on worship, study, encouragement, and ministry are doing the right thing. But Paul eagerly looked forward to his crowns and to the rewards awaiting him. He often encouraged his brethren with news of the future rewards and glory. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the Crown of Righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.” (2 Timothy 4:7-8). We are made a promise, “Be ye strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak: for your work shall be rewarded.” (2 Chronicles 15:7) It is right and also good to look forward to what the Lord has prepared for us, including rewards, for they are also His handiwork.

In 2000, miners accidentally broke through to a heretofore unknown chamber. It contained the most magnificent crystals ever seen anywhere on earth, absolutely stunning the geologists. Some of the crystals had grown to be 60 feet high. The place is called the Cave of Crystals and it is in Naica, Mexico. Because the chamber is exceedingly hot and humid and humans are overcome with the bad air within minutes, and also to preserve the display, the cave is closed to visitors except under strict circumstances. “This year, BBC Two sent Professor Iain Stewart into the cave, and he “got a rare glimpse of the subterranean spectacle while filming for the new BBC series “How the Earth Made Us.” If you ignore the show title and focus on the cave, you will be blessed. The trailer is only 1:20 minutes.

Now, Christian, capture the wonder and amazement of the beauty of these magnificent and translucent crystals and translate that to a tiny window of the beauty of the gems and crystals that are awaiting us in New Jerusalem!

The New Jerusalem
“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.” (Rev 21:1-2)

“The wall was made of jasper, and the city of pure gold, as pure as glass. The foundations of the city walls were decorated with every kind of precious stone. The first foundation was jasper, the second sapphire, the third chalcedony, the fourth emerald, the fifth sardonyx, the sixth carnelian, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst. The twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate made of a single pearl.” (v. 18-19)

“The great street of the city was of pure gold, like transparent glass.” (v. 21)

“I did not see a temple in the city, because the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.” (v. 22-23)

Oh, the tremendous beauty that is awaiting us with our Lord! His creativity is unparalleled. That He will share this beauty with us is amazing in itself, but that He is creating it for us, to dwell with him, is enough to bring me to my knees. When you watch this video of the gorgeous crystals, think of the street of gold in New Jerusalem, think of His light and His glory illuminating the entire city, the world, the universe. Think on this: “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” (John 14:3). The place He is preparing is so much more beautiful than the Crystal Cave at Naica, the mind cannot conceive its artistry.

Will YOU be there? You will be if you ask Him forgiveness of your sins and make Him the Lord and Savior of your life. Understand that sin cannot enter into the heavenly realms and that you, if you have sin in you, will be excluded from this glory. But if you repent of it and ask Him to forgive, you will be walking the street of gold with all the other forgiven sinners in eternity.

Christian, the Crystal Cave at Naica is not what awaits. What He is preparing for us is even better. Can our eyes take it in? Can our hearts remain beating or explode with joy at His grace and generosity? When you feel tired, when satan whispers ‘it’s not worth it’ or ‘why bother’, think on New Jerusalem’s beauty that the Lord took care to make for us, and persevere.

It’s open season on humans

Forget deer season, the moose lottery, and duck hunting. There’s a new season, and it’s humans who are now the hunted.

Shootings are increasing and their randomness, lack of motive, or trivial motives are growing more shocking daily. We have:

Professors shooting colleagues
According to a faculty member, the professor had applied for tenure, been turned down, and appealed the decision. She learned on Friday that she had been denied once again. Officials said the dead were all biology professors, G. K. Podila, the department’s chairman; Maria Ragland Davis; and Adriel D. Johnson Sr. Two other biology professors, Luis Rogelio Cruz-Vera and Joseph G. Leahy, as well as a professor’s assistant, Stephanie Monticciolo, are at Huntsville Hospital in conditions ranging from stable to critical. The shooting came just a week after a middle school student near Huntsville shot and killed a classmate.

Elementary Teachers shooting Administrators
A fourth grade teacher at Inskip Elementary School (TN) is charged Wednesday with the shootings of the principal and assistant principal at the school. Foster entered the office at Inskip Elementary School and lured the victims, Elisa Luna and Amy Brace, into the principal’s office,” the police complaint states. “(Foster) then shot victim Elisa luna multiple times at close range…and shot victim Amy Brace multiple times at close range…”

Restaurant-goers shooting patrons
Police say a man opened fire inside a Gresham (OR) restaurant, killing one person and wounding two other before killing himself.

Children shooting parents
A 12–year old Iowa boy is charged with killing his stepfather and injuring his half sister. Neighbor and good family friend, Candy Burmeister, describes the Peek family as, “salt of the earth.” She says the parents raised their children with strong morals and kindness. Police are trying to piece together what led to the shooting.

Teens shooting children
Richmond (CA) police have arrested a 17-year-old boy on suspicion of shooting a toddler riding in a car with her father. Sgt. Bisa French says the shooter did not know the girl or her father when he shot into the moving car while on foot.

Clients attacking their hairdresser
An Athens (GA) woman attacked another woman Tuesday morning because she was upset over how the victim styled her hair, Athens-Clarke police said. … The victim tried to call police, but Fleming ripped a cell phone from a rope around the victim’s neck and drove away, police said.

Paul wrote in no uncertain terms to Timothy about the state of affairs in the last days. He said they would be “perilous.” (KJV)  “For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.” (2 Timothy 3:2-5)

When I read these verses I think of national peril, such as America is in now being an ever-growing economic and military target, but I also think of individual peril. It’s perilous for individuals to simply go about their daily business. It’s perilous to drive an ice cream truck, go to a restaurant, have a faculty meeting, teach in a school. It’s perilous to cut hair, to dwell in your home, to ride in a car with your baby.

Making the days even more perilous than the shootings’ penetration into daily lives are the reasons for the shootings. Being denied tenure? Not liking your haircut? Not responding quickly enough during an armed robbery? Trivial reasons, as if any reason could ever justify a shooting. Selfish and ungodly. As moral people we seek answers and reasons. Though we do not condone a shooting we can understand self-defense in extreme situations, or simply the heartbreak of true psychological madness. But in the shootings highlighted above, the reasons make the times perilous, because they are trivial and selfish, just as Paul said men would be. Worse, are the many shootings that have no motive. People simply show up somewhere and begin shooting randomly. Note that the list of shootings are not scraped together over a period of years, they all occurred in the last week. Tragically, it was easy to find examples simply by googling the search term “shooting” under the news search and thousands of results popped up.

Notice the ages of the shooters. More and more often they are teens. In one of the news stories above, a 12-year-old boy killed his step-father. Children shooting parents is simply unthinkable. Paul mentions disobedience to parents in the verses above and there is no greater disobedience to parents than killing them or their siblings.

Satan is the god of this age and surely he hates humans as much as he hates God. Attacking us through our minds is his primary way he subverts any incipient Godliness and bring to the fore the appearance of godliness as described by Paul in the verses above. Since this is only a form of godliness it is false and easily crumbles when the sinful thoughts are not taken captive. James 1:14-15 says, “Each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin.”

It is not only perilous times because of bodily danger, but perilous because of our sinful natures to begin with, and satan’s war against humanity is increasing. Failure to take captive all sinful thoughts immediately lends a person vulnerable to satan’s wiles. People with corrupt motives creep in and for the people who are outside of Christ, I cannot even imagine how difficult it is to withstand the onslaught of deception and corruption. It is open season and every human is at risk. If you have not asked Jesus to forgive your sins, do so and do not delay. If you are truly sorry for the bad things you have done, thought, or said, ask Jesus to forgive them. Make Him the Lord and Savior of your life. If you are saved, you are not immune to being hunted either. Satan hates the Godly even more than the godless, and it is incumbent upon every Christian to persevere daily in the diligence of seeking His face. Doing so brightens His light inside us, and in these perilous times, what better antidote than being the Light of Jesus shining into the eyes of those who dwell in dark places? It is a gift to be bright for Him, because the unsaved are “the people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned.” (MAT 4:16)
