Comet Elenin is coming

There is a dust-up about Comet Elenin between the Government science sites and the conspiracy fringe sites that I think is pretty interesting. As always, the truth lays somewhere in between.

On NASA’s Ask an Astrobiologist site, there is a pretty cranky disclaimer at the very top:
“Special Note: Ask an Astrobiologist has received more than 5000 questions about Nibiru and Doomsday 2012, with more than 400 answers posted. Please read a summary of the answers that have already been posted, view a video on these topics, use the search feature and read the FAQ’s before submitting questions on these topics.”

LOL. Five thousand questions is a lot of questions on the same topic. Obviously it is of concern to the populace. As the end approaches, the lost and the unaware have increasingly turned their interests to events that are depicted in the bible. Though these people deny the bible as the source of truth, they perpetuate the events in their mind, cultures, and discussions through conspiracies and pseudoscience. They refer to Mother Shipton or Nostradamus as originators of these prophesies and quote them as gospel. Planet X or Nibiru is one of these events. How much of what they say about Planet X is true and how much of it is bunk?

The Nibiru collision is a conspiracy-predicted disastrous encounter between the Earth and a large planetary object planet or asteroid, in either a collision or a near-miss in which certain people believe will take place soon. Believers in this doomsday event usually refer to this object as Planet X or Nibiru. According to Wikipedia, “the idea that a planet-sized object could possibly collide with or pass by Earth in the near future is not supported by any scientific evidence and has been rejected as pseudoscience by astronomers and planetary scientists.” However, a large comet was just discovered in late December by Leonid Elenin, an amateur Russian sky watcher, and Comet Elenin as it is now called will zoom between the sun and the earth by fall 2011. Why Wikipedia states so matter of factly that a planet sized object will never pass close to earth is a mystery, because obviously, the appearance of this comet- which was unknown to science before a few months ago- exists and is now classified as a PHO (potentially hazardous object.) The surprise appearance of the comet and its imminent near-passage to our planet has gotten the conspiracy theorists all riled up!

In Babylonian astronomy, Nibiru is a term of the highest point of the ecliptic, i.e. the point of summer solstice, and its associated constellation. Did you notice that the planets, constellations, moons, and most of technology are all named after the demonic/pagan realms? Wouldn’t it be nice to have a planet’s moon named, say, after Moses? Alas, I digress.

Back on Ask an Astrobiologist, a person recently questioned about Comet Elenin:

“Question:  I’ve recently heard about the discovery of comet Elenin, which is scheduled to come close to earth around October-November 2011 – Is it possible it will be an extinction level event? AND Comet Elenin: How close to earth will it get? And can we expect it to cause any damage? AND I have read that Russian scientists are now predicting that asteroid Apophis will impact the Earth April 13 2036 causing terrible damage. I understand that the Russians are planning a mission to stop the asteroid.”

Some people even say that the amateur skywatcher Leonid Elenin’s name is really code for ELE-nin, or extinction level event. See what I mean about the conspiracies?

“ANSWER: Both Comet Elenin and Asteroid Apophis are real, but these concerns about collisions are without foundation. Unfortunately there are a few popular websites that are known for suggesting multiple catastrophes, including popularizing the 2012 hoax. Two that show up in any search for “Comet Elenin” are godlikeproductions and abovetopsecret, both of which predict either a very close pass by Earth or a collision. If instead you consult dependable websites like wikipedia and skyandtelescope you will find that Comet Elenin will come nowhere near the Earth. At its closest (on 10 September 2011) it will be more than 25 million km from our planet.”

Astro-scientists measure celestial distances in our orbit by AU’s, or astronomical units. Initially, Comet Elenin was predicted to pass earth 25 AU’s away from earth. That distance was narrowed to .15 AUs, the 25 million km the Astrobiologist mentioned. How far is .15 AUs in real people distances? 13 million miles. The sun is 92 million miles away. Seems that the guys at abovetopsecret and godlikeproductions were right when they said “very close pass by earth”! Elenin’s debris trail could be rather large so for the people on earth on September when Elenin arrives, it could well be a very bad day. On the other hand, the miss distance could be comfortable and simply put on a good show for backyard astronomers.

My point here is two fold. The Astrobiologist said that people should not depend on conspiracy sites like abovetopsecret for their information, but dependable sites like Wikipedia. Wikipedia? Really?? I about choked on my corn flakes when I read that. Wikipedia is just as liberally biased as any site, so biased, that Conservapedia, an English-language wiki project written from an American conservative Christian point of view was created to present more accurate information than Wikipedia.

But relying on government sites for information is just as fraught with error, bias, and lies. The United States Geological Survey has repeatedly stated that earthquakes are not on the increase, despite their own data telling the opposite story. And do we really think NASA would alert the populace if a planet-sized asteroid was going to crash into earth in September? Of course not. Are the Government’s unemployment statistics accurate and presented clearly? No. The data is manipulated. John Williams started Shadowstats to present the same data that the government does and calculates it the way the government used to, before things got so bad the government started hiding data. And when was the last time anything really helpful came out of the White House site? The [new] Press Secretary simply refuses to answer any questions these days.

Out of desperation, many people do turn to conspiracy sites, because the information is naked and unfiltered by corporate mainstream media.

The popular blog Death By A Thousand Paper Cuts published a list of the top 80 alternative news-gathering sites on the net. Abovetopsecret and godlikeproductions- the two sites that the Astrobiologist chided us for reading, were in the top five.

 What does that tell you. The very fact he mentioned the conspiracy sites lets us know that citizen-led journalism is often-times truer than government or corporation-led news media, and likely really getting on the government’s nerves. Of course, you have to wade through profanity, stupidity, and real conspiracies like reptilians living inside us to get to any nuggets, but many times citizens feel they have to wade through just as much when reading White House-released unemployment statistics or economic news.

My second point is that there is increasingly a difficulty in learning the truth, apart from the bible. There is no need to read conspiracy sites about the Illuminati that want to take over the would to reform it into a New World Order. That is a real event that is described in Chapter 13 of Revelation. There is no need to sift through conspiracies about Nibiru/Planet X because that is described in Revelation 8. There is no need to turn to murky quatrains in Nostradamus to learn about extinction level events that the government is secretly preparing for. The Great Flood was an Extinction Level Event. The Tribulation will be another Extinction Level Event. Three out of four Jews will die in the Tribulation. 2/3 to 3/4 of all earth’s population will die in the Tribulation. All the oceans will die. All the rivers will die. All the islands will die. All the mountains will crumble. That is really an extinction level event! You do not need to read conspiracy sites or read between the lines in Corporate or Government media. It’s all there in the bible. And that’s one book where you can count on the information being true and reliable 1000%, forever!!

The Lord is coming soon, says…everyone

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Israel’s rabbis, and Christian ministers are all saying that the prophesied battle of Gog and Magog will occur soon that the Lord’s arrival on earth is imminent. I find it very interesting that the leaders of the three major religions in the world all feel a similar spiritual burden- that end time prophesies are about to be fulfilled. Let’s see who is saying what, but first, delve into some biblical background for context.

The End Time, End Times, or End of Days is a time period described in the eschatological writings of the three Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Christianity, and Islam). In Christianity, the End Times are depicted as a time of tribulation that precedes the Second Coming of the Christian saviour who is Jesus who will then usher in the fullness of the Kingdom of God and bring an end to suffering and evil after smiting the rebellious ones (non-believers). In Islam, Yawm al-Qiyāmah “the Day of Resurrection” or Yawm ad-Din “the Day of Judgment” is Allah’s final assessment of humanity. It is preceded by the end of the world. In Judaism the term “End of Days” is taken from the Tanakh, Numbers 24:4, as a reference to the Messianic era and the Jewish belief in the coming of Mashiach and the World to Come.  IRAN/PERSIA & AHMADINEJAD,
In the Gog Magog prophecy of a battle to come described in Ezekiel 38-39, Ezekiel said that Persia, Libya, Ethiopia, Sudan, Turkey Russia and Armenia will surprise attack Israel. It reads: “Persia, Cush (the upper Nile region) and Put (Libya) will be with them, all with shields and helmets, also Gomer (Turkey) with all its troops, and Beth Togarmah (Armenia) from the far north with all its troops—the many nations with you.” (Ez 38:5). They are almost successful in their attack. However, at the very last second when all seems lost, God rescues Israel, visibly and demonstrably. All will know who and how Israel was rescued and it is this demonstration of divine intervention which pulls Israel back into covenant relationship with God. “I will execute judgment on him with plague and bloodshed; I will pour down torrents of rain, hailstones and burning sulfur on him and on his troops and on the many nations with him. And so I will show my greatness and my holiness, and I will make myself known in the sight of many nations. Then they will know that I am the LORD.’ ” (Ez 38:22-23)

By the end of the battle Israel will be back in old covenant, ‘I will make known my holy name among my people Israel. I will no longer let my holy name be profaned, and the nations will know that I the LORD am the Holy One in Israel. It is coming! It will surely take place, declares the Sovereign LORD. This is the day I have spoken of.” (Ez 39:7-8). Because of Israel’s recognition of God as the God of their Old Covenant (Abraham, Isaac, & Jacob), it means that by the end of the battle the church is gone, because we represent the new covenant. The last 7 years remaining for the old covenant to be fulfilled will resume. (Daniel 9:25, and see below).

The prophesied seventy weeks, or four hundred and ninety years to accomplish what the LORD wanted to do with Israel are divided into three distinct periods, to each of which particular events are assigned. The three periods are: –
I. Seven weeks, that is, forty-nine years.
II.-Sixty-two weeks, that is, four hundred and thirty-four years.
III. One week, that is, seven years. It is this last 7 years of concern to us now.

The Shias also believe that the world will end after a 7-year turmoil, that there will be deceiver, that Jesus will return to help the Mahdi as his deputy to force all to convert to Islam. The Shia Muslim end time scenario is exactly the same as Christianity’s, except the exact opposite. Think of their doctrines as being a photographic negative to the picture of Christianity. So, here is what Iran’s leader said today (Iran = Persia) and note how closely it relates to this upcoming Gog-Magog battle:

US, Israel will soon exit Middle East: Ahmadinejad
President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Friday that a new Middle East is being created which would be free of the United States and Israel, as he backed the Arab uprisings but warned Egyptians to be watchful of America’s “friendly face.” “We will soon see a new Middle East materialising without America and the Zionist regime and there will be no room for world arrogance (the West) in it,” Ahmadinejad told the cheering crowds who gathered despite the cold and cloudy weather.

In his fiery style, Ahmadinejad, showed his messianic beliefs on Friday, saying the world was witnessing a revolution managed by Imam Mahdi, the 12th Shiite imam who disappeared as a five-year-old in the 10th century and who Shiites believe would return on the judgment day. “The final move has begun. We are in the middle of a world revolution managed by this dear (12th Imam). A great awakening is unfolding. One can witness the hand of Imam in managing it,” said Ahmadinejad. “Come and take away the Zionist regime which is the source of all crimes… take it away and liberate the region. Free the region and give it to the people and take this regime, which is the child of Satan (the United States), out.”

The Gog Magog battle is a foray of the Muslim coalition to do just that- an attempt to wipe Israel from the earth. That two Iranian warships were allowed through the Suez Canal after 32 years to patrol waters in the Med off Israel is no accident. That missiles are being fired into Gaza as we speak for the first time since the Gaza war is also no accident. The war is coming. Ahmadinejad is right.

Israel’s rabbis say the same thing.

“RABBIS SAY ARAB UNREST SIGNALS MESSIAH COMING SOON”
Prominent rabbis from the Lithuanian ultra-Orthodox sector have offered their own curious interpretations for the upheaval that is spreading through the Middle East, stating that the events are a clear proof that a higher power is at work. “Recently it appears that there is a powerful effort to destroy and agitate the world of the Torah, through various attempts to prosecute kollels and yeshiva students,” Steinman said. “When you try to agitate the world of the Torah, God agitates the world.” Rabbi Chaim Kanievsky, an unconventional Lithuanian leader who is believed to have mystic powers, offered a different explanation. “It is evident that many unnatural things are happening,” he said. “People have come to me and said that it’s ‘Gog and Magog’. We cannot know. But it’s probable that any unrest that God creates shows that the Messiah is coming, and that we must begin to prepare for it and become stronger.”

And finally, Christian leaders also say that the end is nigh and the battle of Gog-Magog is coming. Joel C. Rosenberg commented on the Ynet article above,

“On this, I agree with Rabbi Kanievsky – the War of Gog and Magog is approaching, the Messiah is coming, and we must be prepared and become stronger spiritually as the Lord’s return draws near. That said, I suspect the Rabbi and I disagree on the Messiah’s identity. That’s a good discussion to engage, particularly now. The Hebrew prophets told us the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem Ephratah, would minister to the people living darkness in the region of Galilee, would teach in parables, would do miracles, would suffer and die as a guilt offering for our sins, and then would rise again and His body would not see decay in the grave. What’s more, in Daniel chapter 9 we learn that the Messiah will come, atone for our sins, and be “cut off” before the Second Temple is destroyed and Jerusalem is crushed by the Romans. That means if the Messiah didn’t come before 70 A.D., He is never going to come. I know beyond the shadow of a doubt that our Messiah has come, and that He is coming back, possibly sooner that we realize. Today, we are seeing the type of “uprisings” and “lawlessness” that the Lord Jesus warned in Matthew 24 and Luke 21 would precede His return. What’s more, I believe we are steadily approaching what the Hebrew Prophets called the “Day of the Lord,” the tumultuous events that will lead us right into what Jeremiah called “the time of Jacob’s trouble” (Jeremiah 30:7), what Jesus Christ called the “Great Tribulation” (Matthew 24:21), and what the Apostle John described in horrific detail in the Book of Revelation.”

Another prominent Christian leader, Pastor John Hagee also commented this week on the military buildup in the Middle east and the Libyan participation as a precursor to the set up for the Gog Magog battle.

With the globe’s most scholarly and well-versed religious leaders all saying that the tribulation time of judgment and Jesus’ return to the earth is imminent, you pay attention. You know what else? Since the rapture precedes the Tribulation, it must be REALLY imminent. Keep looking up!

Has Gaddafi fled Libya? (UPDATED)

UPDATE: We know that Gaddafi has fled Tripoli and diplomatic sources say there are indications he is on his way to Venezuela. Witnesses say that two fighter jets have suddenly landed at Malta and other are reports saying the pilots are asking for asylum.

The disciples asked the Lord what would be the signs of the end of the age. Jesus answered in a long and explicit discourse, the longest He gave on any topic (The Sermon on the Mount in Mt 5 is about equal in length). He answered not in parables but in clear language describing a generation that would see these things come to pass. (Mt 24:33-34). One of those events are that “nation will rise against nation.” To our ears in 2011, nation means country. But the Greek word here is ‘ethnos’. Strong’s Concordance says it means “people joined by practicing similar customs or common culture; nation(s), usually referring to unbelieving Gentiles (non-Jews). In other words, races.

In Tripoli, Libya, we read tonight, “Clashes between anti-government protesters and Gaddafi supporters escalate as army unit ‘defects’ in Benghazi.” Snipers are shooting at mourners killed in the protests. Violence has erupted in five major cities in Libya, not to mention Yemen, Morocco, and Bahrain. There are wild unsourced reports that Gaddafi has fled Libya for Venezuela. People are taking to the streets, brother against brother, race against race. Though these are the times just prior to the tribulation (and I believe just barely prior) they are not part of the Tribulation yet. But we can see that the ‘nation against nation’ prophecy is nearing fulfillment. Not to worry. even as Daniel said in 2:20-22,

   “Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever;
   wisdom and power are his.
He changes times and seasons;
   he deposes kings and raises up others.
He gives wisdom to the wise
   and knowledge to the discerning.
He reveals deep and hidden things;
   he knows what lies in darkness,
   and light dwells with him.

With all the focus on the sun lately, it reminded me of how much we love the sun, how much we rely on it. Older civilizations worshiped the sun, even some civilizations nowadays worship it. The sun should not be an object of worship but it is an object that inspires awe. But with all that, we still take it for granted.

I’ve had the privilege of seeing the Aurora Borealis display twice. Once was a short display in Maine. I was driving home late at night after a class in Portland. I was on a long stretch of road and I could see up ahead that there was a strange red in the sky, even though it was long past sunset. I pulled over at a wide span in the breakdown lane and got out of the car. I was treated to a wonderful display of the lights, in reds and blues. It looked like a curtain waving.

On the other occasion, I was on an ice-breaking ferry in Labrador. It was in the middle of the night, but we were about to enter a port so everyone was up and awake. A French-Canadian gentleman became excited and pointed to the low horizon, gesticulating and urging his girlfriend to look. After a moment or two, the sky popped. A cracking sizzled in my ears and a gorgeous curtain of greens lit up the sky. I was wowed, awed, and amazed at the colors, but especially the sounds. It sounded like a harp was being played that had strings of electricity. The lights are ethereal, and I felt privileged to see the results of the solar flare’s effect on earth.I mean, it’s not every day you get to see ions light up.

People love the sun so much, and its appearance and disappearance each day is always a source of anticipation, relief, and joy. Sunrises and sunsets are eagerly watched and remarked on. Sunsets are cause for parties in Key West, Naples Florida and other locations where there is warmth, beaches, and coolers. For I while I lived on a yacht, sailing to the Bahamas. While I was on watch at the 3-5am stint, sailing through the dark ocean waters, there is never such relief and happiness when the the first few rays of the sun poke above the horizon. The last night watch before dawn always seemed the longest. When the sun bursts over the waves and the first light emerges it seems the same thing is happening in my heart, waves of joy illuminate it and I feel light and happy.

A little-known solar effect at sunset is the “Green Flash.” It is fairly rare. At least, it only lasts a second or two so it is hard to see and so it’s rarely caught. I caught it when I was living in Florida for the winter. At sunset, and atmospheric conditions are just right, as the sun goes beneath the horizon, a green light shoots out from under the sun’s disk to the right and to the left, and then the entire sun is gone as well as the flash. I saw it, my husband saw it, and another guy on the beach saw it. We were so excited to have seen this rare solar phenomenon. It is kind of like finding a unicorn, fabled and mythologized, but the flash actually does happen. The other folks on the beach didn’t believe us, and accused us of drinking. But we had not taken any drink of any kind. It looked like deep green emeralds shooting out.

“Green flashes come in two common forms, succinctly described by James Prescott Joule in a letter to the Manchester Literary and Philosophical Society in 1869. First, he noted that “at the moment of the departure of the sun below the horizon, the last glimpse is coloured bluish green.” This “last glimpse” flash is associated with the inferior mirage, familiar on asphalt roads on sunny days. It is best seen from a few meters above sea level…”

The recent solar storm with ejected flare has caused a bit of consternation among scientists, aware lay people, and conspiracy theorists. However, damage from a Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) is no conspiracy- they happen and they will continue to happen. They will also continue to affect earth.

Space.com muses on the possibilities in an aptly headlined article: Catastrophe Looming? The Risks of Rising Solar Storm Activity”:
“The sun let loose its most powerful eruption in more than four years Monday night (Feb. 14), disrupting radio communications in China and generating concern around the world. But it could have been a lot worse, experts say. Despite its strength, Monday’s solar storm was a baby compared to several previous blasts, and it provides just a hint of what the sun is capable of. A true monster storm has the potential to wreak havoc on a global scale, knocking out communications systems, endangering satellites and astronauts and causing perhaps trillions of dollars in damages. The sun’s activity cycle is ramping up, so more storms will likely be coming our way over the next few years. The sun has grown more active over the last several months after rousing from a quiet period in its 11-year weather cycle last year.”

“But Earth has been walloped by monster solar storms before. One of the most powerful hit us in 1859, a blast that Rutledge estimates may have been 30 times more powerful than Monday’s event, though it’s tough to put hard numbers on such comparisons. The 1859 storm shorted out telegraph wires, causing fires in North America and Europe, and spawned spectacular auroras — the light shows visible near Earth’s poles — bright enough to read by, according to some accounts. If the 1859 storm occurred these days, it would likely have devastating impacts, since our electrical and communications infrastructures are so much more developed. A recent report by the U.S National Academy of Sciences found that such a severe storm could cause up to $2 trillion in initial damages by crippling communications on Earth and fueling chaos around the world.”

We love the sun. We take endless photos of sunrises and sunsets. We admire its strength and bemoan its winter weakness. We languish under its warmth and rejoice under its light. We are awestruck at its auroral displays and marvel at its mirages. But one day, the sun will not be there.

“I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became like blood. And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind. Then the sky receded as a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved out of its place.” This is an event described in Revelation 6:12-14. This is a terrible event that happens early on in the Tribulation. The seal judgments are the first set of 7 among 21 judgments. The 7 Trumpet Judgments and then finally the 7 Bowl Judgments come after the Seal Judgments. Imagine, the sun not giving its light! Imagine the terror, the clockwork rising and setting as we have always known them, GONE. Just darkness covering the land. It will happen, but…

YOU can be in the light, the Light of Jesus and the glory of heaven. If you feel sincerely bad about your sins, then ask Jesus to forgive them. He will do it. He died on the cross so that He would be the sacrifice, satisfying God’s justice for sin. You can live forever under His eternal pardon, or you can see for yourself what it really means to be in the dark.

X-class solar flare and the end time: there’s a link

I’ve written twice since late last night about the X-class solar flare that was ejected from the sun and hurled toward earth. The sun’s solar cycle is getting more active and expected to peak in 2013. With the recent activity, astronomers predicted that some kind of flare was likely to occur. Scientists were surprised when the flare eventually turned out to be an X-class, though.

Indeed, four C-class flares were ejected, and later, an M-class flare. C-class flares are small, and M-class are medium. X-class flares are big, and when they are directed toward the earth, they can cause damage. According to Spaceweather.com, “A solar flare is an explosion on the Sun that happens when energy stored in twisted magnetic fields (usually above sunspots) is suddenly released. Flares produce a burst of radiation across the electromagnetic spectrum, from radio waves to x-rays and gamma-rays.”

“Flares send a burst of X-rays and charged particles — mostly protons — out from the Sun’s surface into space. Occasionally one is pointed in the right direction so that it affects the Earth. They are classified according to how powerful they are, as A, B, C, M or X, with X being the most powerful.”

Solar flares and the end time…there is a link. In this article from the Salem Oregon news, “Magnetic Polar Shifts Causing Massive Global Superstorms,” continuing, “NASA has been warning about it…scientific papers have been written about it…geologists have seen its traces in rock strata and ice core samples…Now “it” is here: an unstoppable magnetic pole shift that has sped up and is causing life-threatening havoc with the world’s weather.” I’ve written before about the magnetic pole shift occurring, and we also know and understand that the magnetosphere which protects us from the sun’s harmful rays and flares is twisting, shrinking, and has a huge hole in it. NASA reported in 2009 that there is a giant breach in the earth’s magnetosphere. “It is ten times larger than anything previously thought to exist. Solar wind can flow in through the opening to “load up” the magnetosphere for powerful geomagnetic storms. But the breach itself is not the biggest surprise. Researchers are even more amazed at the strange and unexpected way it forms, overturning long-held ideas of space physics.”

“The Earth’s magnetosphere was discovered in 1958 by Explorer 1, which was the first U.S. artificial satellite launched to orbit earth. The Earth’s magnetosphere is shaped based on the extent of Earth’s internal magnetic field, the solar wind plasma, and the inter-planetary magnetic field. The magnetosphere prevents most particles from the sun, carried in the solar wind, from impacting earth. The Earth has the strongest Magnetosphere of all the rocky planets.” This is how the magnetosphere usually looks. At the left is the sun, at the right, in the center of the solar streams, is the earth.

Most importantly, the magnetosphere is protecting Earth from much harmful radiation from the solar wind ejected by the Sun. The magnetosphere is a very important source of protection, repelling the solar wind out and around the earth in loops formed by the magnetic field of the earth. The photo above shows the magnetosphere is its normal shape. The picture below shows the magnetosphere in its current shape: twisted in a way I’ve never seen before.

The magnetosphere protects us, and without it we would fry. Ultraviolet rays from the sun, if they were to drift upon us, would burn us terribly. Being fully exposed to a solar flare would range from harmful to deathly. Just such a thing may have happened in Louisiana. In a KATC-TV spot news report, “Around two-dozen high school students come home, in the middle of winter with what looks like… Get this— a sunburn. Now, parents and teachers want to know how this happened. It’s a mystery in the community of Hathaway and it has people burning to know the answers. “We don’t know what caused it,” parent, Donald Demary said. “We just kept trying to find answers,” Hathaway High Principal Mona Miller said. On Wednesday, about two dozen Hathaway High School students came back from a field trip with what appears to be a sunburn. The mystery is, students and teachers don’t know what caused it. “We have no idea,” Principal Miller said. “It’s very bizarre.” Demary says, “it’s something we need to be very concerned about. “It looked more like a flash burn.” Miller described, “or something someone would experience inside a tanning bed.”

A hole in the magnetosphere or strong sun shining through a weakened section of it would cause the burning. Not saying it did, but it could.

The pole shift, X-class solar flare, and the students getting flash-burned made me think of the breakdown of the celestial cycles prophesied to happen in Revelation and in Matthew 24:29. The sun goes dark, the moon goes dark, stars fall from the sky, the moon turns red, the skies roll back as a scroll, burning mountains crash into the oceans (asteroids?) it will all happen. And there is something else that will happen: “The fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and the sun was allowed to scorch people with fire. They were seared by the intense heat and they cursed the name of God, who had control over these plagues, but they refused to repent and glorify him.” (Revelation 16:8-9). Like the students in Louisiana, in the Revelation judgment, if you go outside for a few moments you’ll get burned. The Revelation judgment is NOT happening now, but as I said, the things happening this week with the sun and the flares and the magnetosphere made me think of the Revelation judgment. The magnetosphere could disappear and that may be how the judgment comes to pass. In any case, extreme weather and abnormal solar activity is the new normal.

But you do not have to worry about extremes or fluctuations in any cycle. Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega, and He is constant. He is the same today, yesterday and forever! You can be with Him to experience a constant level of joy and peace that you never knew on earth, X-class flares notwithstanding. Ask me how. Go on, I dare you to ask.

X-class solar flare (major) has occurred

“UPDATE – This was rated an “X2.2 Major Solar Flare” – The sun showed some love on Valentines Day. Massive Sunspot 1158 has produced a major X2.2 Class Solar Flare at 01:56 UTC Tuesday. This is the largest Solar Flare of Cycle 24 and a CME could be associated with this event. A strong R3 Radio Blackout has taken place as well. More to follow.”

X-class flares are described here:

“Scientists classify solar flares according to their x-ray brightness in the wavelength range 1 to 8 Angstroms. There are 3 categories: X-class flares are big; they are major events that can trigger planet-wide radio blackouts and long-lasting radiation storms. M-class flares are medium-sized; they can cause brief radio blackouts that affect Earth’s polar regions. Minor radiation storms sometimes follow an M-class flare. Compared to X- and M-class events, C-class flares are small with few noticeable consequences here on Earth.”

Australia is already experiencing some effects. There are reports of down internet and the radio disruptions as mentioned above. It generally takes 48 hours for flares to hit us so we will see what happened, if anything, over the next few days. The X-flare was earth-directed, however, so there will be some effects.

Customs official: Weapon of mass destruction found in US

“A port official has admitted that a ‘weapon of mass effect’ has been found by ‘partner agencies’ in the U.S., raising major questions over a possible government cover-up. The disturbing revelation came in an interview with San Diego’s assistant port director screened by a television channel in the city. The Customs and Border Protection Department tried to dampen speculation over his remarks, but doubts remained over whether he had inadvertently revealed a dirty bomb plot to attack the U.S. mainland. Concern over a secret WMD bust came after U.S. cables made public by the Wikileaks whistleblower website revealed terror groups were plotting a ‘nuclear 911.’ “

‘So, specifically, you’re looking for the dirty bomb? You’re looking for the nuclear device?’ asked Mr Blacher.
‘Correct. Weapons of mass effect,’ said Mr Hallor.
‘You ever found one?’ asked Mr Blacher.
‘Not at this location,’ Mr Hallor said.
‘But they have found them?’ asked Mr Blacher.
‘Yes,’ said Mr Hallor.

“Earlier, Mr Hallor told Mr Blacher: ‘Potentially every city in America is a target. Given the waterways and the access to the Navy fleet here, I’d say, absolutely, San Diego is a target.” Read more at the link…

It doesn’t take a genius to know that the world is a very, very dangerous place. Wars are asymmetrical now, and could be launched by anyone, anywhere, at any time, and in some cases, we’d never know what hit us. The book by William Forstchen in “One Second After” an apocalyptic book illustrating the effects of an electro-magnetic pulse over the US, is true-to life scenario where things go to pieces very quickly, but the enemy was never known.

Speaking of waterways and an unknown enemy perpetrator, in Joel C. Rosenberg‘s book “Dead Heat“, waterways were used to launch a shoulder-held scud missiles simultaneously from 4 strategic cities, Seattle (technological center), LA (entertainment center), Potomac (political Center) and NYC (financial center). Container ships anchored on rivers giving access to these cities, or anchored immediately offshore, allowed through the proximity for a terrorist crew to simply unclasp a tarp that had covered a disassembled missile on deck, assemble it within seconds, launch it, up anchor, and steam out while the crew repaints the ship’s name en route.

It is an entirely plausible and scary scenario. It is so plausible, that it has leapt from the pages of political fiction to near possibility, according to the Customs officer. It makes TSA patting down 5-year-olds look like the ridiculous government intrusion that it is, while waterways and borders go unprotected.

As far as the end time goes, if you are thinking that “it couldn’t happen in America”, think again. Revelation 6:3-4 depicts the first devastating judgments, and second in line is war. “When the Lamb opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, “Come!” Then another horse came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make people kill each other. To him was given a large sword.” Peace will be taken from the earth. That means ALL the earth, including America. No section, place, plot, or nook will escape the effects of the second seal. War will be the order of the day.

We see it setting up, now, even before the Tribulation. Look at a map of the eastern Mid-East and northern Africa. The unrest has spread from Lebanon, to Egypt, to Saudi Arabia, to Bahrain, Algeria, Yemen, and now Italy. The “A” marks a tiny island owned by Italy, called Lampedusa, where the Tunisians are fleeing. More on that news, below. Click on the map to enlarge it.

Yemen: Hundreds of anti-government protesters marched toward a presidential palace in Yemen on Sunday, calling for regime change in the Middle Eastern country. Some of them chanted, “First Mubarak, now Ali,” referring to Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh and Hosni Mubarak, who recently resigned as president of Egypt after nearly 30 years in power. Security forces put up a barbed wire barricade and blocked the protesters’ path about two miles from the palace. At that point, the situation intensified as protesters turned away and attempted to reach the palace through side streets.”

Algeria: Unrest, protests and clashes. “Police reportedly used tear gas and batons to drive back crowds protesting over unemployment. About 30 people, most of them protesters, were hurt. In January Algeria was the first in a string of countries to see street protests, as people rallied against high food prices and unemployment. Several people were killed as unrest spread across the country. The sporadic protests have been continuing since early January.”

Bahrain: “Following Algeria over the weekend, the latest country to see an escalation in rioting following the revolutions of Tunisia and Egypt, is the tiny island of Bahrain, situated just off the coast of Saudi Arabia, which just happens to be home to the US Navy’s 5th fleet. From the Washington Post: “Bahrain’s security forces fired tear gas and rubber bullets Monday at thousands of anti-government protesters heeding calls to unite in a major rally and bring the Arab reform wave to the Gulf for the first time.” We are currently searching to bring readers a live feed, but don’t hold your breath. As noted above, this country is situated just off Saudi, and the last thing the oil exporting country needs to show is how volatile the region has suddenly become despite attempts by various emirates in the region to purchase the loyalty of their citizens.

Italy: “Due to political and economical instability in Tunisia, thousands of Tunisian migrants are fleeing to Lampedusa, a tiny Italian island located 70 miles from Tunisian ports. In less than a week’s time, between 4,000 and 5,000 migrants have arrived on Italian shores, almost doubling the population of Lampedusa. The situation is so urgent that Italy had to declare the state of emergency and called the EU for assistance.”

Italy: Thousands of Italians took to the streets in some 200 cities across the country Sunday in protest of Prime Minister’s Silvio Berlusconi’s alleged behavior toward women. The largest gathering was in Rome, where organizers said 100,000 people gathered, under the slogan, “If not now, when?” In Milan, organizers estimated that 60,000 people gathered. Protests also took place outside Italy, including marches in Tokyo and Geneva. Sunday’s demonstrations were the biggest anti-Berlusconi rallies since the most recent sex scandal broke in January, when Milan prosecutors said they were investigating whether the prime minister abused his power by helping an underaged woman, who he had allegedly paid for sex, get out of jail on a theft charge..”

Where will the unrest end? After Jesus comes and sets up His Millennium Kingdom on earth. From here on out, there is only more violence, revolution, and war. Lord, come soon!

To stock up or not to stock up?

Christian friends are wondering what to do about the current food scarcity. In many countries around the world, most of them actually, food is an issue. “Almost half the world — over 3 billion people — live on less than $2.50 a day.” (source) That is an amazing fact. If you are like me and live in America, and have been privileged to live in wealth all your life, that fact is hard to comprehend. “But I’m not rich!” you might protest. Maybe you have been out of work for 32 weeks and are on the verge of losing your house. Well, you HAVE a house. Maybe you have already lost your house. Well, unless you are living under the RR tracks and reading this at the library, you are rich. If you have some sort of shelter, occasional food, and clothes, you are rich- comparatively. So, many people around here are wondering what to do about the hard times on us. No longer are our jobs secure. An entire generation grew up knowing that their company would be loyal to them and they would be loyal to their company, retiring after 40 years with a party, and a gold watch. Government workers were the most secure, teachers, cops, public works crews. But with recent budget crises, entire police forces are being laid off, teachers are not being hired and suddenly, parks don’t need to be leaf-blown every day. Layoffs in every sector abound and no new jobs are to be had. It’s not hard for people to see the writing on the wall. (Side note: that phrase came from the bible.)

It’s natural to want to stock up. Witness any store before a snowstorm- bread and milk are wiped out within hours. People who have families naturally want to gather supplies to take them through the storm. You want to provide for them in case there is scarcity and want. So what I am going to remind you of is counter intuitive. Don’t stock up for the coming storm. Share all you have. Give sacrificially. Be generous.

“WHAT?!” you say. ‘Even the bible shows Joseph stocking up for the famine to come upon Egypt! He knew what was coming and he prepared!” Well, not really. The Joseph story is not a good example of biblical giving. Read the chapters carefully.

In Genesis 41:46-57; Genesis 42:6; Genesis 47:13-22 Joseph went throughout all the land of Egypt and he took the one-fifth of the grain that the people had grown. (Gen 41:34). Joseph stored it in the cities (because cities are guarded and protected). When the famine came, he sold it back to them. When they ran out of money, he took their livestock, and when they ran out of livestock, he took their land as collateral. He turned all the people of Egypt and a good measure of those around Egypt into serfs.

Actually the bible is rife with stories about how we should give it all away. I am NOT talking about socialism. What I am talking about is that the Lord is counter-intuitive. Everything He asks us to do is counter to how we would act in the natural. Love our enemy. When we’re hit on the cheek, give the other cheek. When asked for a shirt, give the coat, too. Become poor to be rich. Die to live. He said He would take care of us. He said He would take care of us even if the way seems impossible. He said it over and over and over!

Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?” (Luke 12:24)

“Who provides food for the raven when its young cry out to God and wander about for lack of food?” (Job 38:41)

“These all look to you to give them their food at the proper time.” (Psalm 104:27)

“He provides food for the cattle and for the young ravens when they call.” (Psalm 147:9)

And Did He not denounce covetousness? “Then He said to them, “Beware, and be on your guard against every form of greed; for not even when one has an abundance does his life consist of his possessions.” And He told them a parable, saying, “The land of a rich man was very productive. “And he began reasoning to himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, since I have no place to store my crops?’ “Then he said, ‘This is what I will do: I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. ‘And I will say to my soul, “Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years to come; take your ease, eat, drink and be merry.”’ “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your soul is required of you; and now who will own what you have prepared?’ “So is the man who stores up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.” (Luke 12:15-21)

“Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit.” Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away. Instead, you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that.” But as it is, you boast in your arrogance; all such boasting is evil. Therefore, to one who knows the right thing to do and does not do it, to him it is sin. (James 4:13-17)

In my personal life, I’ve come to the conclusion that Christians are not to stock up but to give sacrificially. A year and a half ago the situation around here was hard but not dire. Recently it has become dire for many of our families in the county. Dozens per week are knocking at the door of the church at all hours asking for food. The County food bank is regularly depleted. The Feed the Kids program is always asking for food so that the little ones at home from school aren’t hungry over the weekend. Don’t save. GIVE! We really have a lot more than we think we do, and we need a lot less than we use.

When you hear people saying “prepare” take that to mean being prayed up, solid on your bible reading, and having walked arm in arm with the Lord. Don’t stray from a close walk with Him and His statutes. Be spiritually prepared. Why? He called us to be salt and light. THIS is what it means to be light to the people who are in the dark, lost and wandering. THIS is what it means to be salt, preserving the word by acting on it. So Christian, prepare! But prepare to be salt and light:

“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt has become tasteless, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled under foot by men. “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 5:13-16)

Thoughts on a morning drive

I was driving to work this morning, amid an inch of powdery pure snow that had fallen overnight. The birds were chirping, and the mist was rising above the snow as the sun rose. The pastures were pure-looking, and the cows and calves and horses were kicking up snow puffs and cavorting around. I thought of how blessed I am to have a job to drive to, and how it is also a blessing that it is such a short distance away.

The rapture is coming soon, I thought, and it is a signless event. “It could happen right now” I thought. We can see from the nearness of the fulfillments of the first judgment in Revelation that the rapture is close. The rapture will precede the Tribulation, and since the Tribulation’s initial judgments are moving at such a rapid pace toward fulfillment, the rapture could literally be any day.

That God will even cause a rapture to happen is a miracle in itself. Seeing the gorgeous morning reminded me of God and His creation. That He allows us to be a part of it is another blessing I counted on the way in to work. “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11). He includes us in His plans, and allows us to be used for His glory. How beautiful. He put us here on this earth, to work and play and experience pain and happiness and His presence. He draws us to salvation, and blesses us when we accept it. He gave us His all.

The beauty of the fields and farms this morning made me long for my true home, New Jerusalem. But while I am here on earth I am also blessed to be used of God for His kingdom, in whatever way He deems. When He calls, I say “Here I am Lord.” If He doesn’t call to me today, I say, “I will wait for you, Lord.” Either way, I am blessed. Those of us who know Christ know the feeling. It is called “Peace.”

Millions of Man O’War wash up on FL Beaches

Portuguese man-of-war invade Florida beaches
More than 450 beach-goers were treated for injuries after scores of Portuguese man-of-war washed ashore on South Florida beaches over the weekend. “It’s extreme. It is wall-to-wall man-of-war,” Delray Beach ocean rescue supervisor Heather Irurzun, a 14-year veteran, told the Palm Beach Post. “I’ve never seen it this bad.”

In an interview on Fox News, Irurzun said that though wash-ups in winter sometimes happen, “this one seems out of control. It’s just wall-to-wall blue.”

Meanwhile, 50 miles up the coast at Sebastian Inlet, FL, locals are stunned by a fish die-off of massive proportions. The lead sentence in the video-story is “We’re talking a lot of fish…biologists say up to a million.” There were so many dead fish that locals who have lived there for years were “stunned.” The biologists’ theory is that the fish are deliberately bunching up together in the shallow waters, but because there are so many of them, they use of all the available oxygen…and asphyxiate. They said that the species was menhaden, which makes it unusual behavior for that kind of creature.
